Debbie looks around the café
Debbie looks sadly around the café, then Kelly hurries in and reports that it went well with the solicitor;
"Only the paperwork to do now"
there is only the paperwork left to do now.
Debbie closes the café . . .
Debbie puts up the closed sign on the door, and says that now it is all going ahead, she does not want to carry on.
. . . but Kelly argues it is important to stay open . . .
“Debbie – it’s important for the café to stay open,” Kelly protests, “Otherwise what kind of turnover will I get?”
. . . and promptly opens again
and she turns the sign to read open.   “It’s my problem now – I don’t want to alienate customers!”   Debbie thinks it might be best if she takes over from today,
"You could pay rent until the completion date"
and suggests she rents the café until the completion date.
“Pay me a lump sum of rent until completion,” she says,
"I'm not paying that much!"
but Kelly wants to know how much of a lump sum, and when told £1,000, she refuses.
"Either you agree or the door stays closed!"
Debbie then proposes £200 a week;  “I’m not coming back after this afternoon – I just can’t. Either you agree or that door stays closed until completion.”
"That Debbie is so frustrating!"
Kelly is furious that she has no choice.
Ed offers suggestions for a birthday greeting
In the chippy, Chester does not know what to say to Hannah in his text on her birthday;  Ed tells him to put, “Happy Birthday, Hannah – enjoy your day.   Thinking of you over there, while I’m stuck here in sweat and grease.”
"When I was your age, I was in a band"
Jason comes in, wanting fish and chips, and tells Chester, “When I was your age, I was in a band.”
So was Ed, and thought it was really great
It appears that so was Ed, and at the time he thought it was really great;  they had a good laugh;
"I've got a box of CDs at home"
Jason has a box of CDs at home and invites Ed to come over and listen to them.
Siôn enquires about Chester
Siôn is round at the chip shop flat, enquiring what Chester is going to do now, and Britt says that he says he is going into business;  “That why he is working for me – to save up money.”
"He's just avoiding reality"
Siôn is of the opinion that Chester is using it as a way to avoid reality, but Britt admits that the fact he has left school breaks her heart.   Siôn considers he should continue his education, as he is an intelligent boy,
"Will you have a word with him?"
and Britt urges him to have a word with Chester.   “He thinks very highly of you –
"Everyone else has tried – it's your turn now!"
“actually, everyone else has tried – it’s your turn now!”
"Ed used to play in a band, too"
At home, Jason tells Sara that Ed also played in a band at school,
"Everyone did, didn't they?"
but she replies that everyone was in a band when they were at school.   He suspects that she was too busy chasing the boys to worry about something like that.
Siôn administers his pep talk to Chetser
Siôn has gone round to the chippy, where he warns Chester that it is very difficult to set up a business;  “That’s what I want to do in the future, but in the mean time I like working here –
"I get paid – and there's no homework!"
“I get paid, and on top of that, there is no homework,” is the reply.   Siôn points out that in years to come he may feel differently, and will have nothing to fall back on.
"Education doesn't suit everyone"
Ed agrees that, in the situation, he would stay on at school, but adds that education does not suit everyone;  Chester points out that it definitely does not suit him.
"Well, I've tried my best"
Siôn concludes that there is nothing more he can do;  he has tried his best.
Before he goes, Siôn mentions that he has gone through the house accounts, and Ed owes him £10;
Ed borrows £10 from the till
as Ed does not have the money on him, so borrows a £10 note from the till.
Ed assures Chester that Siôn only wants the best for him,
"You've been talking about me to Siôn, haven't you?"
then Britt returns, and Ed goes off to Jason’s house.   “You’ve been talking about me to Siôn, haven’t you?” says Chester;
She removes the money from the till
Britt puts the cash from the till into a bag and leaves again,
"I didn't realise I married a musical genius!"
When Ed arrives, Sara comments, “I hadn’t realised that I married a musical genius!”   Jason is playing a CD of music by a band he saw in ’98 in Llangollen, and Sara escapes to do some shopping.
"It all ended when Gemma came to live with me"
Ed recalls that his gigging days ended when Gemma came to live with him, but Jason insists they have plenty of time to catch up, and they can even take Ifan with them.
"Will you move into the flat with her?"
Then he changes the subject, and asks if Ed and Kelly intend to have children;  “Now that Kelly has bought the café, will you move into the flat with her?”
"There's a lot of history in that place"
Ed replies that that there is a lot of history for him in that place, and he has not yet mentioned anything about it to Kelly, but Jason encourages him to do so.
"It's simple, just ask her straight out"
He suggests, “Kelly, how about we move into the flat together?   See, it’s as simple as that.”   Ed decides it is a good idea – he is going to do just that – and right now!
Colin walks into the chippy, and is greeted by, “Someone else trying to persuade me to go back to school!”
"She's only thinking of what is best for you"
Colin insists that his mother is only thinking of what is best for him, and Chester tells him that Ed has gone for a trip down memory lane.
"Jason has a stash of songs from the '90s"
“He and Jason are having a nostalgic get-together – Jason has a stash of songs from the ’90s.”
"I have a lot of those"
Colin says that he has a lot of those as well, and Chester suggests he goes to join them.
Kelly is sitting in the café flat
Kelly is feeling the pressure, and is sitting in the cafe flat when Ed finds her;
"Debbie wants me to rent the café until completion"
she tells him that it went well with the solicitor, but she is rather stressed because Debbie wants her to rent the café until completion.   She cannot refuse, because otherwise Debbie will close the café, which would be a disaster.
"Perhaps I can help"
“If it’s a matter of finance, perhaps I can help,” offers Ed, “Tell her I’m moving in here.”   Kelly is amazed that he would consider it, after all that happened in the flat, but he is sure that he would be OK.   He could pay rent to her,
"I'm not allowed to sublet the flat"
but she points out that she cannot sublet it, so he proposes paying Debbie directly.
"This place is ideal for two people"
She urges him not to worry as it is her stress, but he maintains that the place is ideal for two people.   She stops him;
"You're lovely, trying to help me"
“You’re lovely, trying to help me, but I’ll sort something out.”   She kisses him,
Ed is disappointed
and he looks disappointed.
"I've got lots of experience of the rock-and-roll scene"
Colin arrives at number 9, and tells Jason he is very willing to share his expertise;  “I’ve got lots of experience of the rock-and-roll scene, from the days of ‘Y Cloriau’ onwards.”  Jason has never heard of them,
He has a cassette of 'Y Cloriau'
but Colin produces a cassette of their performances;
"I'm sure there is a cassette player in the attic"
Jason is fairly sure he has a cassette player somewhere in the attic.
Colin is impressed by the quality of the song which is playing, and describes it as very professional;
Colin is very complimentary about Jason's guitar playing
it transpires that Jason is playing the guitar, which is praised by Colin, who has an idea and dashes out of the house.
"I'm £10 short in the till"
Chester has been called upstairs to the flat, and Britt announces that she is £10 short in the till.
"And you think I had my hand in the till!"
“Oh, I see – you think I had my hand in the till!” he replies, and suggests she speaks to Ed or Madge,
"I'd prefer it if you told the truth"
but she would prefer it if he admitted the truth, then she would be willing to forget the matter.
"It wasn't me!"
“It wasn’t me!” he shouts, “Classic – no matter what I do or say, you don’t believe me!”
Debbie's stipulations . . .
Debbie lays down her conditions – that she wants the first payment now, then every Monday until completion, but Kelly cannot do that,
. . . are not acceptable to Kelly . . .
and proposes that they be every Friday, backdated, and Debbie reluctantly agrees.
. . . but the ceremonial key handover takes place
She hands over the café keys to Kelly, as she says that she cannot be here any more;  “You understand, don’t you?   I wake up every day and I still can’t believe it –
"I'm so angry with myself!"
“I’m so angry with myself.   I’ve been so stupid!”
She walks out;
Kelly looks around her café
Kelly is left looking around her café, and she smiles.
"I caught her at the worst possible time!"
Ed returns to number 9, reporting that he caught Kelly at the worst possible time;  “I shouldn’t have opened my mouth – all the financial hassles!”
"Let the dust settle, and try again"
Jason recommends that he let the dust settle and then try again, but Ed suspects she may have been using the hassles to say no.
"Turn that down, Jason!"
Sara comes home and tells Jason to turn the music down;  he wonders if she wants to listen to Colin’s cassette,
Colin has unearthed his ukulele
and at that moment he returns, carrying his ukelele.
"Right then, how about we start a band?"
“Right then, boys, how about we start a band?  Me, Jason ‘Hendrix’ Francis and you.”    Ed doubts that his voice is up to it, but Jason recalls that he once described it as angelic.   Colin foresees a great future for them and is very excited, saying that he will have to tell Britt about it.
"Britt!   I have to go to the cashpoint!"
“Britt!” exclaims Ed, “I have to go to the cashpoint!   I owe Britt some money.”   Colin assures Jason that they are going to have such fun in the band.
Sara is unimpressed by this band talk
Sara, who is holding a loaf of Brace’s bread, is very unimpressed.
"You've already had your money!"
Britt comes into the chippy, and Chester informs her she is welcome to check the till, but she advises him, “Your shift is finished now, and you’ve already had your money!”   He insists that he is not going until she pays him
"Sorry, Britt, I borrowed £10 from the till"
Then Ed hurries in, apologetically telling Britt, “Sorry, I borrowed £10 from the till earlier – here it is.”
"Exonerated!"
Chester smiles, and Britt reminds Ed to tell her straight away if he borrows from the till.
"I'm so sorry, Chester"
Then she is forced to issue an abject apology to Chester.
"Thanks for offering to help me pay Debbie"
In the street, Kelly comes running up to Ed;  “I wanted to say thanks for earlier – for offering to help me pay Debbie.   It’s all sorted now.
"Sorry if I've been stressed"
“I’m sorry if I’ve been stressed – there’s so much going on.”
She thinks he is acting weirdly,
"I asked you to move in with me, and you said no"
and he explains, “It’s because I asked you to move in with me and you said no – in the flat earlier – you weren’t interested.”
"No, no, no – I thought . . ."
“No, no, no – I thought . . .” she begins,
"Ask me again – and I'll listen this time"
“Ask me again and I promise I’ll listen this time.”
"It's too late now"
He sadly replies that it is too late now and walks away,
Poor Kelly
leaving Kelly confused.
Chester tries to call Hannah . . .

Chester is trying to phone Hannah, but there is no reply;
. . . and, in a temper, stamps on his phone
he furiously flings the phone on the floor and stamps on it.
