Hywel hear Sheryl coming . . .
Hywel is stunned by the shocking revelation, but when he hears Sheryl coming downstairs
. . . and pretends to have just come in
he pretends to have just come into the house.   She says that she cannot believe they have secured the house,
"Did the estate agent mention a date?"
and asks if the estate agent mentioned a date, as it can take ages to buy a house.
Arwen arrives for a dress fitting
Then Ffion arrives with Arwen, to try on her dress, and Sheryl shows Ffion the details of the house, while Hywel stands, speechless.
Cadno cannot believe her ears
At Penrhewl, Cadno repeats incredulously, “Pregnant?”
"It does happen – even at my age!"
and Eileen replies that it does happen – even at her age.   “Was it an accident?   Not that it’s any of my business,” Cadno goes on, and is told that it was not intentional.
She is sure that it must have been a shock to Jim,
She is not going to tell Jim yet
but Eileen is not planning to tell him for the first three months.   “I’m not frightened of telling him – I’m sure he’ll be delighted, but finding the right moment is important.”
"Secrets can ruin a relationship"
Cadno stresses that secrets can ruin a relationship – she is living proof of that.
Dai and Diane are in a tremendous hurry . . .
Dai and Diane hurry towards the police station,
. . . and manage to catch up with DJ
and just manage to catch DJ before he goes in;  they are very relieved that they caught him, but he is quite intent that he is going inside.
“What will you tell them?   You’ve been accused of something you can’t remember at all!” rages Dai,
"I could see it in Sioned's eyes"
but DJ knows that he must have done something, as he could see it in Sioned’s eyes;  she was breaking her heart.
Diane points out that Sioned did not make the complaint;  “She can’t remember what happened either!”
"You would never do such a thing!"
and Dai is quite sure that DJ would never do such a thing.   “It’s not in your character – whether you’re drunk or sober,” adds Diane, “Come home with us.”
"I don't know what to do"
DJ does not know what to do, but is assured that he does not have to go through this alone, so it is better for him to come home with them.
He goes off to see Sioned instead
He decides that he has to do something, and intends to go and speak to Sioned.
"Like two little princesses!"
Arwen and Esther are wearing their bridesmaids’ dresses, and Sheryl says they look like two little princesses.
"Oh yes, very pretty"
Hywel is less than enthusiastic, describing them as, “Very pretty.”   Ffion will be meeting Garry to discuss the stag and hen parties.
"I wish we could have a proper house"
Ffion wishes that they could have a proper house, and does not know what is wrong with Gethin;  “This place would be perfect for us!” she enthuses.
Hywel is in a daze . . .
Hywel walks in a daze along the street,
. . . walking straight past Gethin
and ignores Gethin when he passes;  Gwyneth and Sioned are also nearby,
"Everyone's looking at me!"
and Sioned thinks that everyone is looking at them, so is told that they should go home.
"How are you, Sioned?"
They meet Garry, who asks how Sioned is.
"All right, I think"
“All right, I think,” she replies, but Gwyneth advises him to mind his own business;
"What's his game, then?"
she demands what his game is, but Sioned wonders why there has to be a game.  “He was just being nice, that’s all!”
Sioned refuses to follow Gwyneth's instructions
She refuses to go home, preferring to get some fresh air, and does not see why she should stay indoors.   “I don’t want you to get hurt, that’s all,” alleges Gwyneth, but Sioned appears to be having some doubts.
Eileen explains to Cadno that she wants her baby to have a decent home,
"Don't my children deserve a decent home?"
and the reply is, “What about my children?   Don’t they deserve a decent home?   I’ve toiled in this place for years and now you want to take it away.”
"The farm is falling apart"
Eileen points out that the farm is falling apart and she has no choice, but Cadno insists that they have come through hard times before;
"I've run this place without Eifion in the past"
“I don’t need Eifion – I’ve run this place without him in the past.   I can hire a farm hand to help.”
"It's too late, Cadno"
She is told that it is too late, and snarls, “You have thought all this out – you and Jim!”
“Jim doesn’t know anything about this yet,” is the reply,
"What if Jim doesn't want to move to Penrhewl?"
and Cadno points out that perhaps Jim will not want to move to Penrhewl.   Eileen insists that she has to be selfish for the sake of the baby and the sake of Penrhewl.
"You have to leave Penrhewl"
“I don't doubt that you love this place, but it needs a new lease of life – you have to leave Penrhewl.
Ffion is surprised to hear that Garry is not planning anything special for Hywel’s stag night.
"A couple of quiet drinks in the Deri"
“A couple of quiet drinks in the Deri – that’s what I had in mind,” he tells her,
"Old age is making you miserable!"
and she complains that old age is making him miserable.
Hywel comes in, apologising for intruding but wants a word with Garry;  Ffion leaves,
"How about the stag night?"
and Garry asks what he was thinking about for the stag night.   “We could always go on to Swansea.”
"Sheryl's been having an affair – with Gethin!"
Hywel has other things on his mind and blurts out, “Sheryl’s been having an affair – with Gethin!   I heard them on the phone earlier.
"I had no idea!"
“I had no idea!”
"Are you going to confront them?"
Garry pours him a stiff drink, and enquires what he is going to do;  “Are you going to confront them?”   Hywel has not had a chance to think that far ahead.
"How about the wedding?"
“And the wedding?   It can’t go ahead if she is having an affair,” Garry continues.
"Sheryl was trying to end it"
“She was trying to end it – she told him she didn’t want him hassling her any more – that’s what she said,” Hywel replies, “I don’t understand it – we were happy – she seemed to be so happy.
"I haven't been an angel over the years"
“But I can’t say much because I haven’t been an angel over the years.   There is hope, isn't there?   You’ve got through something like this.”
"It's not easy, Hywel"
Garry agrees that he has, but it is not easy;  “If you really want to be with her . . .”
He is determined not to lose Sheryl
Hywel is quite adamant that he cannot lose Sheryl – or even think of losing her.   “But I can’t pretend that nothing’s happened either, can I?”
Gwyneth is still trying to impose her will on Sioned
When DJ comes into the Deri, Gwyneth wants to leave, but Sioned does not;  “Look at him – he hasn’t even got the guts to look at us,” Gwyneth growls, “Something happened, didn’t it?”
"He was my friend and I trusted him"
Sioned points out that he was her friend and she trusted him.
"And he took advantage!"
“That’s what makes it worse – he took advantage!” is the acid reply, “People know what he’s like when he’s drunk – and they’re still on his side!   You’ve got history, and people can’t see past that.”
"They're not going to think I made up a story like this"
“They’re not going to think I made up a story like this,” protests Sioned.
"Stopping him taking advantage of another poor girl?"
Then Dai comes in, and Gwyneth wonders if he is here to stop DJ taking advantage of another poor girl.
"DJ hasn't taken advantage of anyone!"
“Look here, good girl, DJ hasn’t taken advantage of anyone!” he tells her, quite emphatically, “No-one knows what happened that night –
Sioned admits she does not know what happened
“not even Sioned, do you?”
"Sioned has suffered enough!"
Gwyneth informs him that that Sioned has suffered enough, but Dai emphasises, “Because people like you fill her head with ideas.   You’ve poisoned DJ’s mind – put so many bad thoughts in his head, he doesn’t know where to turn!
DJ sits there while Dai talks about him
“It’s no wonder he almost went to the police to confess to something he hasn’t done.   It’s lucky I stopped him, or DJ would be in a cell now!”
He tells DJ they are leaving, as this place stinks,
"I'm so sorry, Sioned"
and DJ apologises to Sioned once more.   Gwyneth stresses, “He was going to confess –
"Do you still think he's innocent?"
“do you still think he’s innocent?”   Sioned is no less confused.
Jim is home at last . . .
Jim arrives home at the shop flat, after having apparently been away on a building job;
. . . and is feeling his age
he says that he is starting to feel old.   Eileen has been busy with Penrhewl invoices, as someone has to sort them out.
"There wouldn't be a farm if it weren't for you"
He says, “I hope Cadno appreciates all you do – there wouldn’t be a farm if it wasn’t for you. No sign of Eifion I presume?   We shall have to employ someone to help Cadno on top of everything else.”
"It's too late for that, Jim"
Eileen replies that it is too late for that, as Cadno and Eifion have really messed up,
"We shall just have to sell"
so Jim concludes they have no alternative but to sell the place.      “Not necessarily,” suggests Eileen, “I’ve been thinking – we could move to Penrhewl and run the farm properly.”
"We've been over this before"
“Not this again,” he sighs, “We’ve been over this before.   We’re too to old to start farming!” but she insists that they are not old, and he enjoys working the land.
Eileen describes her plan for Penrhewl
“Anyway, if we sell the farm now, we’ll get hardly anything for it – but if we work to get it up and running, it would be a new start for us.”   Jim is not keen to kill himself in the process, but she goes on, “It would be something positive for the future – a decent home, not some flat above a shop.”
"It will never work, Eileen"
He replies that no matter how romantic she makes it sound, it will not work, so she informs him, “We shall have to make it work,
"We're moving to Penrhewl and that's the end of it!"
“because Cadno’s moving out – we’re moving to Penrhewl and that’s the end of it!”
There is a knock on Sheryl's door . . .
Sheryl is playing with the two girls when there is a knock on the door, she is disappointed that it is Gethin who has come to collect Arwen.
. . . but it is not Ffion as expected
“You promised to stay away,” Sheryl protests, but he insists that he is not here to cause trouble,
"We can't avoid each other"
and that they cannot avoid each other.
"It must be my imagination, then"
He asks her if Hywel is all right, and assumes that it must be his imagination, assuring Sheryl that he is not going to tell Hywel about them.
"Time to go home, Arwen"
Just as he is about to take Arwen home,
Hywel says nothing
Hywel comes back and looks rather embarrassed;  Sheryl takes Esther into the kitchen, and Hywel looks very pensive.
"You arranged it without talking to me!"
Jim is angry;  “I can’t believe you’ve arranged it all without talking to me!”   Eileen points out that she mentioned it a while ago;  “Yes, and I refused then as well,” he grumbles.
“That was before the meat business,” she stresses, “And Penrhewl is on its knees, Jim – if we don’t do something soon, the farm will fail!”   He recalls that it fails time and time again;
"It's one crisis after another there!"
it is one crisis after another all the time there.
"My roots are in that place!"
Eileen is quite emphatic that it is Eifion’s and Cadno’s fault, but he insists that the only solution is to sell the farm.   “Please Jim, I can’t – my roots are in that place – I have to be there, especially now!” she says,
She bursts into tears
dissolving into tears.
Jim assures her that it is her heart talking, and not her head, but she is adamant she made the vegetable business succeed, and the shop;
"We can make Penrhewl succeed"
now they could do the same at Penrhewl.   “If it doesn’t work, we’ll still have the shop – I’ve suggested to Cadno that she could run it for us.”
"Thought of everything, haven't you?"
“You have thought of everything, haven’t you?” says Jim, in an exasperated voice, and she begs him to let this be a new adventure for them.
"I'm too soft, that's my problem"
“I’m too soft, that’s my problem,” he confesses,
"From now on, we discuss everything, right?"
but then adds, “From now on, we discuss everything with each other, right?
"No more surprises"  – yeah, right!
“No more surprises – do you understand?”
