Jason checks on the laptop . . . |
Jason checks the laptop
. . . the £5,000 loan is there . . . |
and finds that the £5000 loan has appeared on his bank statement;
. . . and he is very relieved |
he is very relieved.
A box of books is being manoeuvred downstairs |
At Maes-y-Deri, Dai is supervising as Ricky and DJ bring downstairs another box of Non’s belongings, this one full of books. Kath is surprised that DJ is so exhausted; “I thought you were a fit rugby player – look at the state of you!”
"There won't be room for Non to sleep" |
Dai hopes that there is no more, as there will not be room for Non to sleep in the spare room at this rate. DJ protests, “This is supposed to be a special occasion – moving in with your fiancé. She doesn’t know anything about the party tomorrow night, does she?”
"He's very romantic, this one" |
Kath describes him as being very romantic,
"Yes, he takes after his father" |
and Dai remarks, “It’s in the genes – he takes after his father.”
"It's my back, you know, Kath" |
Then he explains to Kath that he cannot do any of the work because of his bad back.
"I'm telling you that it's not right!" |
At Y Felin, Anita is, as usual, complaining, “I’m telling you that it’s not right for them to go around scaring people! They think it’s a joke, but if I was an old lady on my own, it wouldn’t be a joke then!”
"Well, no damage has been done" |
Siôn is pleased that she will not have this bother again for another year, and in any case, no damage has been done.
Anita’s phone rings, and she abruptly tells Kelly, “No, I can’t come right now – I haven’t had a shower yet.
"What?" |
“What’s happened? What?” Siôn wonders what it is all about.
Sioned is roused from her slumbers |
The sound of Sioned’s phone wakes her up; it is 08:52,
She has missed all the excitement |
and the phone shows that there are five missed calls and one message from Jim, which reads, “They’re keeping the baby in for a while.”
"Anita screaming didn't help!" |
Mathew is suffering from a hangover, and complains that Anita’s screaming at him did not help; “I’m sure that people in the Swansea could hear her!” he moans, but Sioned is looking for her bag, as she has to go to the hospital.
A hug of congratulation from Mathew |
“Mam has had the baby – and I’ve only just woken up!” Mathew gives her a congratulatory hug; she wails, “I must hurry up to get to the hospital,
"I'll win Worst Daughter of the Year – for the fifth time!" |
“or I’ll win the award for Worst Daughter of the Year – for the fifth consecutive year!”
"Do you think we went too far with Anita?" |
Then she has the thought, “Do you think we went too far with Anita last night?” but Mathew replies that she was asking for it.
"Who did it? It had to be one of you!" |
Rhys comes in and cryptically ask them who did it, as it had to be one of them.
When they do not know what he is talking about,
"Haven't you seen it?" |
he asks, “Haven’t you seen it?”
All Non's effects are at Bryntirion . . . |
The large box of books has arrived at Bryntirion, to join all the other things; Dai complains about the work, and Diane is upset because she has just vacuumed the room.
. . . and Diane wants them removed |
“Will you remove it now, please?” she demands, but both DJ and Dai are on their way to work.
"They're not staying there!" |
“They’re not staying there – I’m not coming home tonight to this mess!” she roars.
Anita is horrified to see . . . |
Siôn and Anita arrive back in the village, on their way to number 10,
. . . the word 'TRAITOR' |
and discover the red graffiti on the house, which reads, “TRAITOR.”
Kelly tells them it is not a nice welcome home, and Siôn reveals that the same thing has happened at Y Felin.
Anita says it is the work of the same people |
He wonders who would do such a thing, and Anita suspects the same people that scared her last night.
"Look, I've got to go back to the café" |
Kelly has to get back to the café, and at the same time, Rhys, Sioned and Mathew come out of the shop.
Sioned is impressed, thinking it was Mathew |
“Well, I’m impressed – I didn’t think you had the guts!” Sioned tells Mathew,
"Someone needed to teach them a lesson" |
but he denies that he did it, although agreeing that someone needed to teach them a lesson.
Ricky has just joined them, as Sioned wonders what time the bus goes to the hospital.
"I wasn't expecting you here today" |
At APD, Jason is staring into space when Diane greets him; he was not expecting to see her today,
"I've come to check the company books" |
but she explains she has come to do some work on the company’s books. Jason appears to have hidden them, to conceal the missing £15,000; he unconvincingly tells her he has not a clue where they are, and does not have time to look for them now.
"Sorry, I've got to catch the bus to Llanarthur" |
“I have to quote for job in Llanarthur, and I’m late – I have to catch the bus,” he says. When Diane is determined to look for the books, he maintains he has probably taken them home, as he has been working on them there.
"I'll pick them up later" |
Jason assures her that he will pick them up later.
"It's a disgrace, Kelly!" |
Kelly goes to number 10, where Anita is still whingeing, “It’s a disgrace – we are going to phone the police!”
"Calm down, Anita!" |
Siôn urges her to calm down, but she carries on, “Someone has vandalised our property!” His reply is that there is no evidence,
"I shall see if anyone knows anything" |
but Anita is determined to go out and ask people if they saw anything.
Siôn insists that they should just wash it off and move on, and Kelly agrees;
"Don't let them see you're upset" |
“Don’t let them see you’re upset,” then has to go back to the café, wishing Siôn good luck.
"I don't feel safe in my own home now!" |
Anita grouches, “The point is, I don’t feel safe in my own home now!” and Siôn is becoming tired of the whole business.
Jason is back at the casino . . . |
Jason has returned to the casino,
. . . with his £5,000 loan |
where he exchanges the £5000 loan for a pile of chips.
"They want to monitor him" |
Sioned arrives at the hospital in a flustered state, and asks her mother about the baby; “They want to keep him in to monitor him,” Eileen says,
"I'm very proud of you, Mam" |
and Sioned is very proud of her mother. “I think I need to introduce you to someone,” Eileen announces.
£5,000-worth of chips |
Jason looks anxiously at the large pile of gambling chips, given to him by the croupier.
"There's no space left in the spare room" |
Dai has opened the box of books, and reports to DJ on the phone that there is no space left in the spare room for them. “Diane will go absolutely berserk if she comes home and sees this mess,” he says, “I’m going to put them in your room, OK? Because she’s your girlfriend.”
"Yes, I'll take the photos to Kath" |
DJ wants him to take a particular box of photos to Kath, and he agrees to do so when he has finished.
Then something catches his eye . . . |
Dai has found the photo which Non was looking at the other day,
. . . the photo Non was looking at . . . |
and studies the words on the back;
. . . and Dai is puzzled |
he looks puzzled.
Siôn is ready to do some cleaning-up |
Siôn has a bucket of water and prepares to remove the graffiti from number 10; “I’m going to find out who was around last night, and who painted this graffiti!” Anita whinges.
"Just drop the matter, Anita!" |
Siôn’s advice that she should drop the matter is not heeded.
"I deserve it – I am a traitor!" |
“We were targeted because we deserve it – I am a traitor,” Siôn admits, “Years of battling for the language and rural communities – and all of a sudden, I buy a holiday home!”
"I wish you would battle for us, for a change!" |
Anita wishes that he would battle for them for a change; “The language won’t keep us warm in our old age, will it?” She walks off along the street, in disgust.
Kath cuts out paper hearts |
Kath is cutting out pink paper hearts
"Here's your box of photos" |
when Dai delivers the box she she was waiting for; she enlists his help with what she was doing.
"I've got better things to do, Kath!" |
He protests, “I have got better things to do than cart Non’s stuff around, let alone arrange an engagement party!” he moans.
She explains that they are family, and that is what families do,
"All right – no more than an hour" |
so he agrees to stay for one hour, and no more. “All we have to do is choose more photos of DJ and Non, and stick them on. Non is looking at wedding dresses – Debbie thought it would be a good idea to keep her out of the way.”
"We know Non's a bit of a loner" |
Kath is doubtful if there will be a bridesmaid, as they all know that Non is a bit of a loner;
"She must have someone from the past" |
Dai is sure that she must have someone from the past – a school friend or someone. He produces the photograph from his pocket, and invites her to look at what it says on the back.
"That's ten years ago" |
“That’s ten years ago,” comments Kath,
"We should look for this Bethan" |
but he thinks that they should look for this Bethan, and invite her to the party as a surprise. Kath points out that they may have quarrelled.
“Don’t you think that it’s weird she’s never mentioned this ‘best friend’ Bethan before?” queries Dai, and Kath informs him that school friends often quarrel over nothing, and demands whether he is going to help her or not.
"You must think it's weird, Kath" |
“There aren’t many early photos of Non here,” he continues, “You must think it’s weird, Kath,” but she maintains that it is just two school friends who are not friends any more.
“But she’s always said she never had a good friend – she has lied, and I’m going to find out why!” Dai declares, “I’ve got good reason to be concerned – the girl is going to marry my son.”
"There's not a bad bone in her body!" |
Kath replies that she knows Non, and there is not a bad bone in her body; “If she isn’t friends with this Bethan any more, she’ll have a good reason why – so leave it there!”
Jason's anxiety mounts . . . |
Jason is still looking anxious as he watches the roulette wheel go round;
. . . but he is highly delighted when he wins |
the ball lands on black and he is jubilant. The croupier congratulates him on his win, but he cannot walk away with his winnings, instead putting them all ‘on black’.
Black wins this time . . . |
The wheel spins again, and he cannot bear to look, but when the ball lands on 26 black, he is even more excited;
. . . and he is ecstatic . . . |
he jumps from his seat, and shouts joyously. Replacing the stool which he knocked over in his excitement, he receives a large pile of chips,
. . . gathering up all his winnings |
which he gathers up in his jumper, thanks the croupier again, and goes to exchange them for cash.
But his downfall is looking back |
But after a few steps, he turns to look at the roulette table and is in a quandary what to do.
"I don't know why Siôn is angry with me" |
In the café, Anita tells Kelly, “I don’t know why Siôn is angry with me,” and Kelly says that she was obviously targeted.
Sioned needs a bucket of coffee, among other things |
At a table, Sioned decides that she needs a bucket of coffee, twelve hours’ sleep and a bacon butty. She tells Rhys that the baby was small and cute; “He didn’t even cry when I held him. I don’t know how it feels to be a big sister – it’s strange. The only experience I’ve had of being a sister was with Angela – and that wasn’t great!”
"We haven't done anything to anyone!" |
Anita is still complaining, “We’re the ones suffering, and we haven’t done anything to anyone!”
She accuses Rhys of grunting derisively |
She hears Rhys snorting behind her, and turns to confront him, accusing him of grunting at her.
"And what do you mean by that?" |
“You’re not totally innocent, are you?” he replies, and she wants to know what he means by that.
"Why don't we all calm down a bit?" |
Ricky urges them all to calm down, but Anita is adamant that she wants to know what he meant.
Rhys forcibly explains his grievances |
Rhys stands up and tells her straight, “People who are about to retire, like you, have had the cheap mortgages, the cheap houses, a pension – and now you’re pulling up the ladder after you! You want three houses when I can’t afford one – you put on a show to pretend you’re helping the community, but it’s rubbish – you just want to line your own pockets!
"You are traitors!" |
“The graffiti is right – you are traitors!”
"It all makes sense now!" |
Anita assumes that he was the source of the graffiti, but he denies it; “It all makes sense now,” Anita concludes, but Rhys insists that it could have been anyone, as everyone thinks what they are doing is wrong.
"It's obvious it was you!" |
“After that nonsense in Tapas last week, and about renting a unit – it’s obvious it was you!” Anita rages.
When Rhys tells Anita, “Don’t be stupid,”
Kelly decides to eject the troublemakers |
Kelly decides she has had enough
"Don't worry – we're going!" |
and ejects the three of them from the café.
"Nice one, Auntie Anita!" |
She is also not impressed with Anita’s behaviour.
In the kitchen, Ricky gets his rucksack . . . |
In the kitchen, Ricky appears to be looking guilty about something; he gets out his rucksack
. . . and looks at something inside it |
and looks at the aerosol can of paint inside it.
The balls lands on red this time . . . |
The wheel has just finished spinning again, landing this time on 16 red,
. . . and the reality dawns on Jason . . . |
and the realisation hits Jason that all the money has gone,
. . . he has just enough for the bus back to Cwmderi |
leaving him with only a single £5 chip;
No wonder he looks close to tears |
he looks ready to burst into tears.
