9 November 2018

DJ is on the zebra crossing when Dai spots him and says he would have given him a lift to the village, but DJ preferred to walk;
DJ does not expect a welcome from Sara
he doubts that Sara will be pleased to see him back at work.   “Give it two hours, and it will be like you had never been away,” Dai tells him.
Gwyneth takes her coffee to the salon
Gwyneth comes out of the café, and goes across to the salon;
Kath tells Debbie that she is going to Llanarthur to get stuff to make chutney, as it is far too expensive in the shop.   “Are you sure you can make chutney?” asks Debbie, and Kath maintains that reading a recipe is not difficult.
"Have you spoken to Non?"
Mark joins them, and is asked whether he has spoken to Non;  “Not since the last time you asked, last night,” he replies,
"Bethan's gone – all right?"
“Bethan’s gone – all right?   The best thing we can do is forget about her and move on.”   Kath remarks to Debbie that moving on seems to be going great.
"Good morning, Kath!"
Dai greets Kath from across the road, and she snarls, “Don’t you ‘good morning’ me!”   He insists there is no point being angry with him, but she reminds him,
"I told you to forget about that photo – but you wouldn't!"
“I told you to forget about that photo – but you wouldn’t – and look what happened!”   Dai is quite convinced he did the right thing, and does not regret it.
Kelly has employed someone else, then
In the café, Siôn enquires how DJ is;
"I was sorry to hear about Non"
“I was sorry to hear about Non – I can’t believe it.”
"I don't need sympathy from a hypocrite!"
DJ replies that he does not need sympathy from a hypocrite, and walks out.
"Your quaint cottage still causing you problems?"
Garry, who is sitting on the sofa nearby, makes the comment, “Your new quaint cottage is still causing you problems, I see.
"Being unpopular is the price you have to pay"
“Being unpopular is the price you have to pay if you want to make money.”
"My car needs servicing, Garry"
Siôn wanted to talk Garry about servicing his car, and is told to bring it round this morning.
"Have you noticed something weird about Britt lately?"
Then Garry asks Siôn something;  “Perhaps it’s just me, but have you noticed something weird about Britt lately?   She seems to be behaving a bit out of character.”
"No, she seemed full of life, as usual"
Siôn answers that she seems her normal self to him, full of life as usual.
"He's heartbroken, Dai!"
In APD, Diane says, “What do you expect, Dai?   He’s heartbroken.”   Dai is eager to get him through this Bethan business – by cheering him up in some way.   When she suggests he needs some time to get over it,
"Time to ponder what he's lost is not what DJ needs"
Dai is quite adamant that time to ponder something he has lost is not what DJ needs.
“He has to realise that there are people who are worried about him – the way forward now is to be there for him,” he says,
"I'm planning to help him through this!"
“Our job it is to help him through this, and that is what I’m planning to do!”
"Poor DJ!"
Diane feels sorry for DJ, in this case
"Why do we need Megan here?"
Inside the salon, Debbie cannot understand why they need Megan there;  Gwyneth points out that hiring and firing is nothing to do with her.   “It’s not too long since you failed to pay me properly – and now you’re throwing money at Megan,” Debbie complains.
"You're never here – with your other job!"
Gwyneth emphasises that Debbie is never there, with her other job, and adds, “If we want women from the chapel as customers – and they are our only customers – I have to keep Megan happy.   I don’t have a choice, and neither do you.
Siôn puts Blodeuwedd through her paces
Siôn is testing Blodeuwedd at number 10, and is making a note of the results;  he asks her the time and the weather forecast;  she advises him to take an umbrella.
"Am I a traitor?"
Then, becoming more philosophical, his next question is, “Am I a traitor?” but she does not understand the question.
"Are communities suffering because of holiday homes?"
“Are rural communities suffering because of holiday homes?” he enquires,
Anita overhears him
just as Anita comes in with the washing.   He is advised that there are many articles and documents available on the demise of rural areas.
"Are you willing to take advice from that robot?"
Anita abrasively demands, “Are you willing to take advice from that robot?   You should be discussing our investments with me, not Blodeuwedd!” and is outraged when the robot hears her name and asks what is the question.
"We should be discussing this!"
“We should be solving our problems between us, not discussing it with her!”
"You don't take my concerns seriously"
“But you don’t take my concerns seriously,” he says, and she replies that he does not take her dreams seriously,
"We have to reach some kind of compromise!"
insisting they must reach some sort of compromise.
"You want to buy Morawel – and I don't!"
He wonders, “How?   You want to buy Morawel – and I don’t!   Sorry, Anita, I feel ill at ease buying a holiday home – that’s why I was talking to Blodeuwedd.”
Siôn is getting rather tired of this
Anita storms off upstairs.
DJ is about to eat his lunch
DJ is sitting on the bench, about to begin his takeaway lunch from the café, when Dai invites him to the Deri, and of course he refuses.
"It's not like you to turn down a free meal"
“It’s not like you to turn down a free meal,” Dai remarks, “You’ve got no reason to feel ashamed – Bethan should be suffering, not you!”

"I'd like to eat my lunch in peace"
DJ just wants his father to stop, and stresses that he is not coming;  he would like to eat his lunch in peace.
Mark has received some newspaper cuttings . . .
A large envelope has been delivered to Maes-y-Deri;  Mark finds that it it contains some newspaper cuttings and other items connected with the original Non.
. . . about the accident in which the original Non was killed
One of the headlines reads, “Local girl dies in car crash.”
As he is looking at them, his mother arrives,
"Poor girl – she was so young"
and comments, “Poor girl – she was so young.”
"I can't believe Bethan did this"
Mark cannot believe that Bethan did this, and Kath points out that she is trying;
"She didn't have to do it"
“She didn’t have to do this,” but he objects to her defending Bethan.
"She didn't have to come here in the first place!"
“She didn’t have to come here in the first place!” rages Mark, “She didn’t have to pretend to be someone she wasn’t – and destroy our lives!”
"Get your coat, Mark – you're coming with me!"
Kath gets up;  “Right, come on!” she tells him, “Enough of this nonsense – get your coat, and come with me!”
Garry brings bad tidings about Siôn's car
Siôn is heading towards the garage when he meets Garry, and says that he is even getting hassle about the holiday home at home;  “I doubt that you will be very pleased with the diagnosis for the car,” Garry tells him, “The gearbox is on its way out, and you should change the clutch.”
Siôn is not happy about the cost
Siôn does not like the look of the cost of these repairs, but is told by Garry, “Business is business, Siôn –
"As a capitalist in the making, you should understand business"
“as a capitalist in the making, you should understand that.”
They have taken the long journey to Brecon . . .
Kath has taken Mark all the way to the churchyard in Brecon,
. . . where Mark sees the gravestone . . .
where they walk to the grave of Mererid Evans and her daughter, Non.
. . . and is reduced to tears
Mark is very tearful to see the evidence.
"If Megan had given me one more bit of advice . . ."
Debbie and Gwyneth walk into the Deri, glad to have got away from Megan;  “If she had given me one more piece of advice, I would have exploded!” growls Gwyneth.
Then Megan joins them
Their peace is shortlived;  they are disappointed to see that Megan has followed them there, and complains that they left the salon so suddenly.
Megan proposes that they have a drink to celebrate their first day as colleagues,
"I have to go – I've got something on tonight!"
but Debbie suddenly realises that she has something on tonight, to do with Ricky, and must leave straightaway.
"Just you and me, then"
“Just you and me, then,” says Megan.
"I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun!
Garry asks them if they are celebrating, and is told that Megan has just started at the salon;  he predicts that they will have a lot of fun.   “I’m sure your new employer will buy you a drink to thank you,” he suggests, and Gwyneth can hardly refuse.
"I think it's hilarious, Gwyneth!"
As Megan goes to find a table, Gwyneth growls, “That’s not funny, Garry!” but he considers that it is hilarious, and asks whether she and her new best friend want a meal.
"Non said she was in a nice place . . ."
In the churchyard, Kath comments, “Non said that she was in a nice place –
". . . of course I've spoken to her"
“of course I’ve spoken to her.   The place is kept nice – it must be down to Non.”
"She's Bethan, and has nothing to do with us"
Mark points out that she is not Non;  “She is a girl called Bethan, and she has nothing to do with us!”
His mother maintains that she has a lot to do with them;
"Her left kidney is keeping you alive!"
“She lived under our roof for a year – and I’ll tell you something else – her left kidney is keeping you alive!”
They sit on a nearby seat
He walks away and sits on a seat;
"Talking to her would make you feel better"
“Talk to her,” Kath advises, “I know it would make you feel better.”
"I feel sick every time I think of her"
He demands how that could happen;  “I feel sick every time I think of her – when I think of her living in that house, behaving like an aunt to Ricky, or talking about Mererid and Dad.   Why aren’t you angry?”
"No, not after all those lies she told!"
Kath wonders what would be the point of that;  “Look, I know she hurt you – but she was your sister for while – phone her.”   He protests that he cannot, after all the lies she told.

"If Dai hadn't found out the truth . . ."
“And if Dai hadn’t found out the truth, she would still be working her way into our family – DJ’s family, and no-one would know anything.   I thought I’d found my sister – but my sister is here, and she’s been here for years.   Bethan didn’t breathe a word!”
As there is no-one around, Anita asks the robot
Anita is alone in her house, and takes the opportunity to ask Blodeuwedd, “Is saving money for old age a good thing?” but the machine enquires whether she wants information on the elderly.
"Do holiday homes enrich rural areas?"
Then she tries a different tack;  “Find articles which show how holiday homes enrich rural areas,” but once again, Blodeuwedd does not understand the question.
"Why do you always agree with Siôn, but not with me?"
Then Anita growls, “Why do you always agree with Siôn, but not with me?”   She is infuriated when the robot does not understand, and appears to be about to throw the cube across the room when Siôn comes in.
An undignified tussle with the robot . . .
He demands what she is doing, and they wrestle with the robot, as Siôn insists that is a sensitive piece of technology.   Anita snaps at him, “Do you know what?   I’m a sensitive woman as well!”
. . . which Siôn manages to rescue
He looks protectively at Blodeuwedd.
"I miss that cute little face"
Gwyneth looks less than entranced, as Megan relates how she misses the cute little face waiting to greet her when she arrives home.   Gwyneth is sure that she will get over the loss in time.
"Do you have plans for this weekend, Megan?"
Garry comes across with the intention of stirring things;  “Have you got plans for this weekend, Megan?” and she considers that she should start sorting out the garden,
"It's Llewelyn's resting-place out there"
but she is reluctant to go out there, as it is Llewelyn’s last resting place.
“I can imagine that is very upsetting,” Garry sympathises,
"I'm sure Gwyneth would help you!"
“I’m sure that Gwyneth would help you!”
Gwyneth does not look happy about that . . .
Megan expresses how grateful she would be,
. . . but puts on a brave face
so Gwyneth does not have a lot of choice, and agrees.
"You think more of that box than of me!"
Anita is once again furious;  “You think more of that box than of me!” she moans, and he tells her not to be ridiculous.   He is fed up with people criticising him all the time,
"What does it matter what other people think?"
but she argues, “What does it matter what other people think?   Buying this holiday home is important to me!”
"Well, we have a problem, then"
Siôn concludes, “Well, we have a problem, then, don’t we?”   She asserts that hundreds of people do it, and one house is not going to make any difference.
"Welsh communities are dying"
He responds, “That’s the point – house by house, street by street, Welsh communities are dying.   The school closes first, then the chapel, then the pub – what’s left after that?   A land of villages with no sense of community!”
He phones the estate agent . . .
She tells him not to preach at her, and he decides, “I’ve had enough of this.”   He gets out his phone and makes a call;  “I’m phoning the estate agent, to tell them that we don’t want the house,” he advises Anita, and that is exactly what he does,
. . . regardless of Anita's protests
despite her protests that they have not discussed it yet.
“Well, that’s it, is it? she says,
"It's time for me to go"
and he agrees that it is.   Now he decides it is time for him to go, and she is wholeheartedly in favour of that.
"It's up to you if you want to phone me"
It is up to him if he wants to phone her.
"Your favourite meal tonight – steak and chips!"
Dai advises DJ that they have his favourite meal tonight, steak and chips;  “I got rump steaks from Pete the butcher in Llanarthur – they’re whoppers!”
"Go on – tell me I've messed up again!"
He is surprised when DJ comes downstairs, carrying a bag;  “Just say it, will you?   I know you are dying to.   That you were right, and I’ve messed up yet again.
"I can't live with you!"
“I can’t stay here any more – I don’t know where I’ll go – but I can’t live with you!”
"You can't blame your father, DJ"
Diane stresses that he cannot blame his father for this, but DJ shouts, “He’s ruined my life, Diane!
"I don't know if I can ever forgive you!"
“It’s your fault, and I don’t know if I can ever forgive you!”
This did not go according to plan
He walks out of the front door.
"Bethan didn't look like either of us"
Sitting around the table in Maes-y-Deri, Debbie comments that Mark’s sister looks a very sweet girl, and she looks like him.   “She looks like Dad,” he replies, “Why didn’t I think of that?   Bethan didn’t look like either of us.
"You're being too hard on her, Mark!"
Kath says that he is being too hard on her, and she is obviously trying to apologise;  “Why else would she send this stuff?”   Debbie explains that it is guilt, and that she was a cuckoo.   “Are you sure about this, Mark?” his mother asks, “You’ve lost one sister already – there’s nothing you can do about that.   You haven’t lost Non – not yet, anyway.”
"Bethan – not Non!"
He again corrects her;  “Bethan – not Non!”
