Jason warily ventures out . . . |
Jason emerges cautiously from the house,
. . . and lies to Ed |
and tells Ed that he was at The Bull last night, as there was a darts tournament.
"You don't have to pretend with me" |
“You don’t have to pretend with me,” Ed tells him. “I’ve been there – putting on an act whenever I went out.”
"I'm dealing with things" |
Jason thanks him for his concern, but maintains that he is dealing with things. Ed urges him to go and talk to Sara; “The more time that passes, the harder it will be,”
"I'm on my way to see Sara now" |
and he replies that he is on his way to see her now.
They notice Sandra at Jason's door |
Ed walks across the road to Kelly, saying he hopes they can sort it out; then they notice a young woman at the door of Jason’s house.
"What does she want with Jason?" |
“She looks familiar – what does she want with Jason?” wonders Kelly.
"I hoped to spend the day with you" |
Britt asks about Colin’s plans for the day, and he had hoped to be spending the day with her.
"I'm so glad we've patched things up" |
“Oh, that’s lovely – I’m so glad we’ve patched things up,” she replies. He says there are a couple of things he would like to talk to about,
"How is the work going on in the bathroom?" |
but at that moment, Garry arrives to check the progress of the work in the bathroom.
“Dai’s done a temporary job, but I’ve decided not to have new tiles,” she tells him.
"Not going to do another Lord Lucan, are you?" |
He asks if she will be able to do her shifts in the Deri next week; “You’re not going to do another Lord Lucan, are you?” She says that she is sorry if she made things difficult for him, but would like to go back to the Christmas market.
"That's where we should go next week, Col!" |
“That’s where we should go next week, Col!” she exclaims, but he thinks it better for her to concentrate on work. “I’ve got some discount vouchers for some of the stalls,” she says, and hurries off to find them.
"She still refuses to say why she went away" |
Colin tells Garry she is still refusing to say why she went away,
"Are things all right between you two?" |
but Garry maintains, “If she was not happy, she wouldn’t have come back. Are things all right between you two?”
"You've thrown those vouchers away!" |
At this point she comes back; “I can’t find those vouchers – you’ve thrown them away!
"I'd like it if you didn't touch my things!" |
“I’d like it if you didn’t touch my things!” Colin despairs, as he has not even seen these vouchers;
Colin and Garry look at each other |
he and Garry look at each other.
In the café, Kelly deliberately spills the cup of coffee on the counter;
"What is your problem?" |
Sandra detects that something is wrong, and asks what is Kelly’s problem.
"You, perhaps!" |
“You, perhaps!” is the reply, “It’s my café, I’m the owner-manager and everything else.”
Sandra says that she is looking for Jason Francis,
"Keep your dirty hands off Jason, right?" |
and is warned in threatening tones, “Keep your dirty hands off Jason, right? You’ve made a mess of his life – they’re married!” Sandra needs to speak to him, and stresses that it is important, but she is told to get out; “You’re banned!” snarls Kelly,
Sandra knows when she is not wanted |
and Sandra complies with this instruction.
"What have you done to that owl?" |
Mark returns from his round, and he asks “What have you done to that owl? He looks worse – his eyes are wonky!
"It gives me the creeps!" |
“It gives me the creeps!” Kath adds that having a bird in the house is unlucky, so he proposes that Geraint is going on eBay, and immediately gets out the laptop.
Mark is determined that it is going on eBay |
Debbie protests that she has worked hard on him, but he does not care if they get a pound for it, declaring that it is going.
"Why don't you just tell the truth?" |
Jason has gone to number 9, and is holding Ifan, as Sara tells him, “I’d have more respect for you if you’d just tell the truth.” Once more he stresses that he is not having an affair, and that is the truth.
"Do you think I would contact another woman on my phone?" |
“Do you think I would contact another woman on my phone?” he demands,
"I love you both so much!" |
“I love you both so much – how could I do that?” Sara wants to believe him, but she cannot; then her phone rings – it is Kelly,
"I can't talk at the moment, Kelly" |
but Sara cannot talk at the moment, as Jason is there.
"I think his fancy woman has been here!" |
Kelly informs her, “I think his fancy woman has just been in the café – she asked for Jason, and knocked on your door.
Sara is devastated |
“I felt it was my duty to tell you.”
"You had what you wanted from her – now you want me back!" |
Sara immediately retrieves Ifan from Jason, and advises him that his fancy woman is in the village; “Sandra – you’ve had what you wanted from her, and now you want me back! Just go, Jason, you’re pathetic!”
"How about a cup of tea?" |
Colin suggests making a cup of tea, but Britt says she does not have time, as she has to open the chip shop.
"Why are you avoiding talking to me?" |
“Why are you avoiding talking to me?” he demands,
"I'm busy, that's all!" |
and she insists that she is busy – that is all. “I want to talk about us – something’s not quite right,” he continues.
"Just because I went on holiday for a few days" |
“Just because I went on holiday for a few days,” she responds, and he asks if he is the problem; she is adamant that she adores him, and he does not have to worry about that.
"We have responsibilities now, Britt!" |
“We have got responsibilities now,” he says, but she points out that is why she has to go to the chip shop now, and he is left lost for words.
"Jason is denying everything" |
At Bryntirion, Sara tells Kelly, “Jason’s denying everything – one minute I believe him, and the next, I just doubt him again.”
"He's just let that woman into the house" |
Kelly is sorry to say this, but has just seen Jason let that woman into the house.
This is the last straw for Sara |
Sara breaks down in tears.
"Britt insisted I took a long break" |
In the Deri, Ed tells Colin that Britt insisted he took a long break at the chip shop; Colin thinks that they are close mates and asks, “Does she talk about me sometimes?
"Is she starting to get bored with me?" |
“Be honest, has she suggested she’s starting to get bored with me? Has she explained why she disappeared?” Ed replies that she has not said anything, and wonders what this is all about.
"Can you have a word with her?" |
“Could you have a word with her?” pleads Colin, “Ask if everything is all right at home?”
"People don't like others interfering" |
Ed warns him that people do not like others interfering in their personal lives.
"Don't air your dirty laundry in public!" |
Garry, who has been listening to this exchange from behind the bar, gives Colin a word of advice; “Don’t air your dirty laundry in public!”
"Why not try Gamblers Anonymous?" |
At number 9, Sandra tells Jason, “I feel much more confident since going to Gamblers Anonymous – why don’t you try it?” His answer is that he does not need to; he can stop any time he wants, and is quite sure about that.
"Just get out of my house, you slut . . !" |
Then the door opens, and Sara shouts, “Just get out of my house, you slut!
". . . and take him with you!" |
“Take him with you! How could you, Jason?” He replies that he has not done anything, but Sara continues, “I know about your affair – do you both deny it?”
Sandra does indeed deny that there is any affair,
"Calm down, Sara" |
as Jason urges Sara to calm down, but she will not. “I’ve seen the calls, read the texts and everything! I’ve seen a photo of you together!”
"Tell her who I am, Jason!" |
Sandra instructs Jason to tell Sara who she is, but he remains silent,
Sandra is about to follow Sara out of the door |
and Sara rushes out of the house, followed by a disgusted Sandra.
Kath is anxiously waiting for the bidding to end, and is very surprised;
"Those butter table tennis bats have gone for £40!" |
“Those butter table tennis bats have gone for £40!” Mark cannot believe that Jim gave her all that stuff for free, adding that he obviously knows nothing about antiques. Then he asks if any fool has bid for the owl, as Debbie looks very morose.
"That owl has been removed!" |
“You’re not going to believe this, Mark, but it’s been removed!” his mother tells him.
"I didn't want him living with anyone else!" |
Debbie says that she did it, as she did not want him living with anyone else.
"I have to order some more stock" |
Ed returns to the chip shop and Britt tells him he can take over, as she needs to order some stock; “There aren’t any sausage rolls, jumbo sausages or curry sauce.”
"Work has to come first now, Ed!" |
Ed says he can do that, and she should take the afternoon off, but she maintains that work has to come first now.
"I'm sure Colin would like your company" |
“I’m sure Colin would like your company – it’s important to make time for each other,” observes Ed, and she wants to know why he is worried about her and Colin.
"Has he been talking to you about me?" |
“Has he been talking to you about me?” she demands, “What did he say?” Ed replies that he is worried something is wrong, and is warned to keep his nose out of it; “Colin and me don’t need a counsellor!”
"You know where to come if you need a break" |
Gwyneth has just come in and tells her she knows where to come if she needs a break, but Britt walks straight out.
"Pie and chips for two, please, Ed" |
Gwyneth orders pie and chips – for two.
"I'm not here to make trouble" |
In the Deri, Sandra locates Sara; “I’m not here to make trouble,” she says, “If you’re serious about saving your marriage, you have to listen to me.”
"You have to accept we're not having an affair" |
Sitting down, she continues, “The first thing you’ve got to accept is, Jason and I are not having an affair – I’ve got a partner, Brian, and we’re happy. I don’t want to lose him.”
"Well, what is going on, then?" |
Sara insists that something is going on between them.
"We met in a bookies in Swansea" |
Sandra resumes, “We met in a bookies in Swansea – I gave him a couple of tips, and he won. It’s betting – I might as well be honest – I’ve got a gambling problem. I go for long periods without doing it, but I fall off the wagon every now and then.”
"What has that got to do with Jason?" |
Sara wonders what that has to do with Jason, and is told, “He has a problem too – he needs help!” Sara is certain that she would have noticed if he was betting all the time.
"He admitted that he was in a lot of debt!" |
Sandra goes on, “He admitted to me a few weeks ago that he was in a lot of debt – he’s out of control!”
"Who else knows about us, Col?" |
Colin returns to the flat, where Britt shouts at him, “Ed, Garry – who else knows about us? All the Deri regulars? What’s your game, Col?”
"You're the one who's acting differently!" |
He angrily replies, “I haven’t done anything – the one who’s acting differently!” She demands an example, and he goes on, “Leaving the children – what kind of mother would leave her children?”
"Don't you dare suggest I'm a bad mother!" |
She flies into a rage; “Don’t you dare suggest I’m a bad mother! I’d die for them – and you know it! You’re acting like I went away for weeks – you’re the one being unreasonable, not me!”
He admits that he cannot understand her attitude, and she says that she has had enough;
"I'm not staying here!" |
“I can’t deal with this – I’m going! Anywhere – I’m not staying here! Not after you’ve been talking about me with half the village!”
"What kind of money are we talking about here?" |
Sara wants to know, “What kind of money are we talking about here?”
"It's thousands!" |
and Sandra tell her it is thousands; she has watched him lose huge sums. “I had no idea,” wails Sara.
"He is scared to tell the truth" |
Sandra points out that it is an illness, and she has to try and understand; “He is burying his head in the sand, scared to tell the truth.”
Sara wants to know what she can do,
"He must acknowledge he has a problem" |
and is told, “Try to persuade him to acknowledge that he has a problem.”
"You've made around £250, Gran!" |
Studying the laptop, Ricky points out to his Gran that she has made around £250, which she describes as a tidy sum; she and Mark are wrapping glass milk bottles in bubble-wrap.
"Eifion will want his cut" |
Debbie predicts that when Eifion hears, he will want a cut for bringing them here,
Kath bribes them to keep quiet about it |
so Kath will buy them all a takeaway, as a bribe not to tell him.
"See – Gareth has brought us good luck!" |
“See, birds aren’t unlucky – Gareth has brought us some good luck today!” Debbie boasts.
Britt is immediately offered a can |
Britt arrives in the salon flat again, and says that she would rather stay there than go to the Deri, where she might bump into Ed or Garry; “Or anyone else Colin’s been discussing my personal life with!
"I could strangle Colin sometimes!" |
“I could strangle him sometimes –I’ve walked out! He’s told everyone that we’ ve got problems, because I’m acting oddly.
"Why can't he leave me alone?" |
“I’ve had enough – why can’t he leave me alone, to enjoy a bit of freedom?”
Gwyneth commiserates that men are like that;
"Men want to control us!" |
“They want to control us,” and Britt complains that Colin accused her of neglecting the children. She only wanted some time on her own, and it was only a couple of days. “It will do them good to cope on their own,” agrees Gwyneth.
"Could I stay here for a few nights?" |
“Would it be all right if I stayed with you for a few nights?” Britt asks,
"You can stay as long as you like!" |
and is assured that she can stay for as long as she likes.
"Looking for money to bet with?" |
When Sara returns to number 9, Jason has been tidying up; “What are you doing? Looking for money to bet with?” she asks,
"Sandra's told me you've got a big problem" |
“She’s told me everything about your gambling. You’ve got a problem – a big problem.”
"It's all under control, Sara" |
Jason insists that it is under control, but she will not accept this, and demands, “How much money have you lost?” He informs her that it is £7,000, but he will get it back – it is no problem.
"Please don't say you've used our savings" |
“Please don’t say you’ve used our savings,” she goes on, and he is silent; “Tell the truth, Jason, or Ifan and I are leaving – and we’re not coming back!”
Jason nods his head . . . |
He nods his head, and she pleads, “How could you? That was for Ifan’s future!”
. . . and promises to win it all back |
He is adamant that he is going to win it all back – every penny,
"Don't talk such nonsense!" |
but she screams at him, “Don’t talk such nonsense! How could you be so selfish?
"I'm going back to Bryntirion!" |
“I need to get my head around this – I’m going back to Bryntirion.
"Our life was so perfect, Jase!" |
“Our life was so perfect, Jase, just you, me and Ifan.” She is in tears as she walks out of the door,
Jason, too, is in tears |
and Jason is in a similar state.
