10 January 2018

"I'm busy, Ed!"
Ed comes into the café, wanting to talk to Kelly, but she insists that she is busy;  nevertheless he follows her around.
"Leave me alone!"
“Leave me alone!   I don’t want to think of you any more!” she protests, then, seeing his pained expression, she rushes into the café kitchen, takes the house keys from her bag,
"Look, go to the house!"
and tells him, “Go to the house – I’ll be there shortly.”
The history lesson is interrupted
At school, Non is just starting her history lesson, when her phone vibrates, and she sees that it is Mark calling.   “I’ll be back in a minute – I’d better check this,” she tells the class.
Ricky checks that she is all right
Ricky looks concerned and actually follows her out of the door.
She says, “Hiya, Mark – you tried to phone.   Is everything all right?”
"I have some news for you"
Mark, who is walking along the street, tells her that he wanted to catch her before the lessons began, and has some news.
“I’ve had a date for the operation – it’s earlier than I expected – in a fortnight!” he goes on,
This comes as a shock to Non
and feeling rather shocked, Non sits down on the stairs.
“It’s all right – I’ll sort something out,” she assures him, but he does not want to mess up things for her at school.   “We’ll talk later – I have to go,” says Non.
Kelly is a woman with a mission
As Mark ends the call, Kelly walks past with a determined look on her face.
Non is dumbfounded
Non looks worried as she sits on the stairs.
"What do you want, Ed?"
Kelly reaches number 10, where Ed is waiting for her;  she sits opposite him and asks, “What do you want?”
"I can't stand hurting you"
“I can’t stand you being angry with me,” he replies, “And I can’t stand hurting you.   I’m not doing it on purpose – you’re the last person in my life I’d want to hurt!”
"Do you just want a friend?"
She warns him that she cannot put herself in this situation again;  does he want her there because he wants a friend?   “I’ve been there for you from day one – I can’t do it any more!”
"You know how I feel"
He insists that she is more than a friend and that she knows how he feels,
"Say it, then!"
so she demands, “Say it, then!   If you have feelings for me, say it!”
"I'm not good enough for you, Kel"
He maintains that he is not good enough for her, just as she receives a call on her mobile.
"Trust me, it doesn't work!"
She ignores it and tells him that he cannot hide his feelings;  “Trust me, it doesn’t work!”
“It’s for the best – I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did yesterday,” admits Ed, “I had no right to ask you to stay.”
"If there is a chance for you and me . . ."
Kelly insists that if there is a chance for them . . . then the phone rings again, and Ed assumes that it is Iestyn.
"I'm already messing up things for you"
“Don’t you see?   I’m already messing up things for you.   I won’t be the reason you miss out on what you want to do!   Answer it!” but she does not.
"You deserve better"
The phone stops, and Ed tells her, “You mean so much to me – but you deserve better.”
"If being friends is hurting you too much . . ."
She shakes her head, as he continues, “If being friends is hurting you too much, it’s better if we let it go, like this.”
She is left alone again
He gets up and walks out of the house, leaving Kelly looking devastated.
"Are you all right, Miss?"
When Non returns to the classroom, Ricky asks if she is all right, as she looks rather pale.
He reminds her about the last lesson
As the lesson is restarted, he prompts her that in the last lesson they were talking about the main turning point of the Second World War.
"Pearl Harbour in 1841"
She says that they will begin with Pearl Harbour in 1841;
"I think you mean 1941, Miss"
Ricky suggests she means 1941, which causes some amusement amongst the pupils.
Non rushes out of the room
Embarrassed, she runs from the classroom.
The vase, before the unfortunate accident
Ed returns to Y Felin, and while taking off his coat knocks over a glass vase, which shatters on the floor.
Who picks up broken glass with their bare hands?
Attempting to pick up the pieces, he cuts his finger, and wonders if things can get any worse today.
Non, in the corridor
Non is crouching in a corridor at school, with her head in her hands;
"Are you all right, Non?"
Gaynor sees her there and asks if she is all right.   Non replies that she has a headache;
"I fell to pieces in the history lesson"
“I just fell to pieces in the history lesson,” she confesses.  Gaynor says that she has been doing so well,
"It happens to everyone"
but it happens to everyone from time to time.
"It was just a blip"
“You’re just saying that – it was only a blip,” Non tells her, and after Gaynor has gone, two boys come running round the corner.
"No running in the corridor, please!"
“No running in the corridor, please!” Non sternly instructs them.
"Friday?   That's a bit soon!"
Kelly is on the phone, in tears;  “Hiya, Iest, sorry I couldn’t answer earlier.   Friday?   That’s a bit soon, isn’t it?   I don’t know – there’s loads to sort out and stuff.
"I'll let you know by the end of the day"
I will let you know by the end of the day – I’m just really busy, you know!”
"What the hell's happened?"
Then she immediately goes round to Y Felin;  “What the hell’s happened?” she demands, and Ed replies that it was just an accident.
She tenderly deals with his cut
“You have to make sure there’s no glass in it,” she fusses, “And you’ll need to buy Siôn a new one,” as she tends to his injury.
"Being with you makes me happy"
“I hate quarrelling with you – being with you makes me happy,” he begins, “But I cannot trust myself – I freaked out when you sent me away yesterday!   I couldn’t believe I’d asked you not to go – and thinking of you not going because of me is doing my head in!
"Thinking of you with that Iestyn makes me feel sick!"
“Thinking of you with that Iestyn made me feel sick.   That’s not right, is it?   I have no right . . .
"I don't want to turn into Sioned!"
I don’t want to turn into Sioned!”
"You're nothing like Sioned!"
Looking into his eyes, Kelly emphasises, “You’re nothing like Sioned – and you never will be!   You’re punishing yourself for no reason –
"You deserve to be happy"
“you deserve to be happy, but you have to see yourself as the person you are – and not as the issues put in your head by Sioned.”
Ricky checks up on Auntie Non
Ricky is sending a text to Non, asking if she is OK, when Mark returns home;
"The operation is in a fortnight"
“Listen, Ricky, I’ve had a date for the operation – it’s in a fortnight.   I’m pleased, as long as it doesn’t spoil Non’s plans for her course.
"I phoned her this afternoon"
“I phoned her this afternoon.”
"Are you nervous, Dad?"
Ricky asks if he is nervous about the operation, and his father admits that he is, but they need to look forward to the months ahead, when he can enjoy the spring and summer.
"Non will be OK, like Stacey was"
“Non will be OK, like Stacey was,” says Ricky,
"She's being very brave"
and Mark comments that she is being very brave.
“I think she had rather a shock this afternoon when she heard the hospital date was so soon,” Ricky tells him.
"What do you mean, Rick?"
Mark insists that he should explain what he means, as they must not keep secrets from one another.   “She had a bit of a wobble in class today – she couldn’t concentrate,” he is told.
"I shall have to postpone it!"
Mark decides that he will have to phone the hospital to postpone it until Non finishes the course;  “It will only be a couple of months.”
He does not want to inconvenience Non
He looks very troubled.
"Thanks for sorting me out, Kel"
Ed thanks Kelly for attending to his wound, and after a long pause, she informs him there is a reason why she has come.
"I can go on Friday"
“Obviously, I didn’t want to leave things as they were.   I’ve talked to Iestyn – an opportunity has come up for me to go on Friday, which means going to London tomorrow.   I told them I’d phone back –
"If you want to give this a go . . ."
“because I don’t have to go!   If you want . . . if you want to give this a go . . . you and me . . .
"I love you!"
“I love you!”
Ed cannot reveal how he feels . . .
Ed is torn between two opinions, and again is incapable of reaching a conclusion;  he does not give any answer, so she gets up,
. . . and Kelly goes
puts on her coat and leaves the house.
Gaynor encounters Non
Gaynor meets Non outside the shop, and hopes that she has forgotten about that lesson today;
"I'm not sure I can finish the course"
“I’m not sure if I can finish the teacher training course,” Non tells her, “I’ve had a date for the kidney operation, and I don’t know what the next steps are.   I don’t want to let the school down.”
"You and Mark must take priority"
Gaynor stresses that she and Mark should take priority, and that she is not letting down the school;  “I’m sure the college will understand – and I will write you a reference.   It’s a small thing compared to donating a kidney – you’re being very courageous.
"Perhaps you should talk to someone"
If you have any doubts, it’s important that you don’t dismiss them – perhaps you should talk to someone.   A counsellor comes to the school.”
Now Kelly is hastening in the other direction
Non hurries away, then Kelly rushes past in great haste.
"I just want to postpone it until the summer"
At Maes-y-Deri, Mark is on the phone;  “I just want to postpone it, until the summer.”   Ricky is coming downstairs, and listens.   “Who should I talk to about it?” Marks asks, “I’m strong enough to have the operation –
"The timing is difficult for the donor"
“just the timing is difficult for my sister, the kidney donor.”
This concerns Ricky
Ricky looks very concerned.
Ed sits on the stairs . . .
Sitting dejectedly at the foot of the stairs in Y Felin, Ed thinks it is time he did some tidying up.
. . . then looks at a mug with Kelly's lipstick . . .
He picks up Kelly’s mug from the table, looks at the lipstick mark on it, and finally makes his decision.
. . . and leaves Y Felin at high speed
Grabbing his coat, he rushes from the house.
"I want you to sign me up for Friday"
Meanwhile Kelly is again on the phone to Iestyn;  “I want you to sign me up for Friday,” she announces, “I know – it’s exciting!   I’m ready to leave!”
"You've made it clear you don't want to talk!"
Then there is a knock at the door;  “Ed, you’ve made it perfectly clear you don’t want to talk!” she tells him.
"I love you!"
He informs her, quite emphatically, “I love you!”
"You what?"
and Kelly cannot believe her ears.   “I love you!” he repeats, smiling broadly.
Well, that has certainly been a long while coming
At long last, he kisses her.
