16 January 2018

The aftermath of Mathew's evening
Surrounded by food wrappers and empty cans, Mathew wakes up on the sofa;
He checks to see if the result has changed
he finds the test result and looks at it once more.
"Awake, are you – at last?"
Vicky comes in and asks, “Awake, are you – at last?”   She says that it is mid-morning, and that she tried to get him to come to bed, but he replies that he does not feel well.
"You snored all night and kept me awake!"
“Neither do I – you snored all night and kept me awake!” she moans.
He explains that he had too many cans last night, but she wants a night out tonight, and has asked her mother to babysit.
"I can't go anywhere"
Mathew does not feel in any state to go anywhere, so Vicky presumes that she will have to cover for him at the Deri.   “If you’re staying at home, you can clear up this mess!” she orders him,
"And you can clear up these magazines!"
“And these magazines – I’ve been asking you to do that since we moved in.”
"I'm so glad you didn't go last week!"
At Y Felin, Ed tells Kelly, “I’m so glad you didn’t go last week!”   She smiles and replies that perhaps they can go together some day, as she still wants to go travelling;  “We’ve got plenty of time to think about things like that,” he assures her.
"Look at you two – all loved up!"
Iolo arrives to pick up the ‘old man’s’ post;  “Look at you two – all loved up!” he comments, “Still in your pyjamas!   I’m surprised you got out of bed at all.”
"I'd better get dressed"
Kelly thinks this is her cue to get dressed.
"You haven't told anyone about us, have you?"
Ed enquires if Iolo and Tyler have told anyone about him and Kelly;  “We’re not quite ready to go public yet.”
"It's no-one else's business, is it?"
Iolo answers that it is no one’s business but theirs, and he is just delighted that they are happy.
Mathew still cannot believe it . . .
Mathew sits, staring disbelievingly at the envelope, then decides to follow instructions and do some tidying up.
. . . then throws everything into the same sack
Everything is dumped into a black sack, including the magazines and the letter.
"You're not going back to Anita's?"
Ed is surprised to see that Kelly intends to take her stuff back to Anita’s;  “Why don’t you stay until Siôn comes back?” he asks, but Kelly does not want to presume anything.   “Leave your stuff here, and you could always bring more stuff!” he insists.
"Now that we're sharing a bed . . ."
“I wanted to ask you something, actually,” Kelly begins, “Now we are sharing a bed . . .”
"I checked with Iolo that they haven't told anyone"
Ed interrupts her to say that he has checked with Iolo that they have not told anyone, as he is not comfortable with going public about their relationship,
"I wanted to make sure you felt the same"
and wanted to make sure that Kelly felt the same.
"We don't want the whole of Cwmderi knowing"
“Yes, we don’t want the whole of Cwmderi knowing our business, do we?” she says,
"I'll come to the café – as a friend"
and he offers to come with her to the café this afternoon, as a friend.
"After you help me tidy up – as my boyfriend!"
“After you help me tidy up and make the bed – as my boyfriend!” she smiles.
Mathew looks rather furtive . . .
Mathew comes out of the back door of the café
. . . as he dumps the black bag
and puts in the black bag in a nearby bin;  then he sees Iolo and Tyler talking about Dani.
"I've been worried about Dani since Carol arrived"
Tyler is not convinced that she is happy, and wonders if she has depression;  “I’ve been worried about her since Carol arrived.”   Iolo is on his way to the Deri, so he will tell Dani they are thinking of dropping in to see her.
"Didn't see you there, Mathew!"
When Iolo sees Mathew lurking by the bins, he asks if the list for the Wales versus Scotland trip is up in the Deri.
"I'm a Swans fan myself"
Mathew believes that it is, but he is a Swans fan himself.
"I hope the rugby brings in some customers"
Inside the Deri, Dani is looking forward to the rugby livening up the place;  “We need more customers so we can afford to keep you and Mathew on,
"We shall still need you"
“but with Garry in the garage and me looking after the baby, we need you.
"Where is Mathew?"
“By the way, where’s Mathew?”
"He's out of sorts"
“He’s ill – don’t ask me what’s wrong with him, but he’s out of sorts,” Vicky tells her, and expects that he has gone to bed.
"OK if we come over later?"
Iolo has just come in and informs them that Mathew was outside just now, and also that he and Tyler were thinking of coming over to see Dani and Carol later.
Iolo is going to put his name down for the trip
Vicky wonders why they are advertising the rugby trip when they are showing the game in the Deri.   Iolo explains that they will need a couple of pints before going, and they will be back at Sunday lunchtime.
Dani takes her phone . . .
Dani gets out her phone
. . . and sends a text
and composes a text.
"Hasn't anyone taught you how to fold your clothes?"
“Hasn’t anyone taught you how to fold your clothes?” scolds Kelly, and Ed describes her pyjamas as something from the 90s.
"Not going to sleep naked, an I?"
“Oi!   I love them – I’m not going to sleep naked, am I?”   She sits down on the bed beside him, and he immediately changes the subject, suggesting they had better go to the café, where he can help, if she wants.
Mathew has been summoned by Dani's text
Mathew comes to the Deri flat in response to Dani’s text;  she insists that they need to talk.
She issues his instructions
She instructs him, “You are going to forget about this DNA business, and everything that has happened between us.   And you’re going to start behaving normally again.
"You have to do as I say"
“I know this is hard for you, but you have to do as I say, and clear these thoughts from your head – do you understand?
"My baby has got nothing to do with you!"
“There are no buts – my baby has got nothing to do with you – and you know that now.”
"I can't just forget everything"
He argues that he cannot just forget everything, but Dani is adamant that he has to;  he must move on and think of Vicky.
"Concentrate on what you've got"
“You’ve got an opportunity to forget all about it, to sort your head out – concentrate on what you’ve got with Vicky and Nicky.”
"This wasn't just about Carol . . ."
“You don’t understand, do you?” he protests, “This wasn’t just about Carol –
". . . I love you!"
“Dan, I want you!   I love you!”
"This should be in the recycling'
Kelly and Ed bring out some rubbish from the café, and find that the bin is full;  “These are magazines – they should be in the recycling,” says Kelly, removing the bag,
"I've told them until I'm blue in the face!"
“I’ve told Debbie and Vicky until I’m blue in the face!”
She forces the lid closed
They take the recycling back into the café.
"I want that letter back — now!"
Dani demands, “I want that letter back – now, please!” but Mathew insists that the results do not matter.   “I want you to bring it back as soon as you can.
"You don't love me – you're not thinking straight!"
“You don’t love me – you’re just not thinking straight!”
Mathew goes on about how things could be different for them, and that he does not care who Carol’s father is.
"I can offer you a better life!"  — Just how, exactly?
“I can offer you a better life!   Garry doesn’t appreciate you!”
"I love him and want to be with him!"
Dani furiously informs him that she loves Garry, and wants to be with him.
"You've got a good thing with Vicky"
She emphasises, “You’re not thinking straight – you’ve got a good thing with Vicky, and she loves you.”
"But I don't want Vicky!"
He, however, is quite adamant that he does not want Vicky.
"Or you won't have anybody!"
Dani warns, “Don’t throw away what you’ve got – or you won’t have anybody!   You’ve only got one option – move on from this mess, and make things work with Vicky.”
"I can't be happy with her any more"
He does not think that he can be happy with her any more,
"Well, there's no happiness for you here!"
but Dani makes it quite clear, “There’s no happiness for you here – I want that letter back, and I want you to stay away from me!”
"Job experience, is it, Ed?"
As Ed is clearing up plates in the café, Tyler asks if he is on work experience,
"There's another reason for him being here!"
and Iolo points out that there is another reason for him being here.
"Have you seen Mathew?"
Vicky comes downstairs, having been looking for Mathew,
"It was just a hangover"
but at that moment he walks in, looking downhearted;  she reminds him that he is supposed to be ill, and he explains it was just a hangover.
"We can go for that curry tonight"
“If you’re all right, we can go for a curry tonight,” decides Vicky, but he says he just has to pop out the back for a moment.
"Doghouse is out there, is it?"
Ed remarks that the doghouse must be outside.   As it is quiet, Kelly will close the café early.
Mathew receives a shock when he opens the bin and finds that particular bag missing;
Mathew has a tremendous shock
he is at a loss to know what to do.
Greta and Carol together
Dani shows Iolo and Tyler some photos on her phone;  “Carol looks so small, next to Greta,” she says,
"Her mischievous side comes from the Monks' gene pool"
“I think that Carol’s mischievous side  comes from the Monks’ gene pool.”
Tyler says that it is nice to see Dani smiling again;
"We're here for you if it all gets too much"
“I know that it hasn’t been easy for you.   We are here for you if it all gets too much.”
"I feel better this week"
She replies that she and Garry are fine now, and she feels better this week, as it takes time to get used to everything.
“Yes, Tyler, I have been low, but I’m getting better – Garry makes me happy, and having Carol in our lives is amazing,
"Please stop worrying about me"
so please stop worrying about me.”
"Vicky, sort this recycling out!"
Kelly drops the bag of recycling at the foot of the stairs, and shouts to Vicky to sort it out;  when she comes down, she looks at a few of the magazines,
One of the items in the bag puzzles Vicky . . .
then picks up the envelope, marked private and confidential, addressed to Dani.   She wonders what it is doing there, but replaces it in the bag,
. . . but it is tossed just inside the kitchen door
which she tosses into the kitchen.
"I just want to make sure we're OK"
Back at Y Felin, Kelly wants a chat before dinner;  “I just want to make sure we’re OK.   I don’t want to rush things, and I think it’s a good idea that we’re not sleeping together, yet –
"Why is this so awkward?"
“why is this so awkward?”
Ed laughs, and assures her that things are perfect as they are now;
"Sorry, I've been like a schoolboy"
“Sorry, I’ve been like a schoolboy, avoiding the subject.   Neither of us has had good experiences of relationships this last year.”
"One step at a time – right?"
Kelly suggests it is wise to take one step at a time,
Are all their problems now behind them?
and they kiss.
Mathew looks as if something is on his mind
In Cwm Delhi, Mathew seems very preoccupied;  Vicky knows that it is boring but she always has the same thing, chicken korma.
"Oh, it's one of the boys"
Mathew receives a phone call, and says it is one of the boys, trying to get Swansea tickets.   He steps outside to take the call,
Vicky is suspicious
and Vicky looks suspicious.
"Why haven't you brought back the letter?"
It is, of course, Dani, who has been expecting him to bring the letter over, but he explains that it is not safe;  “I can’t do anything until tomorrow –
"I'm doing exactly what you asked"
“I’m out with Vicky, doing exactly what you asked.   Now I have to go.”
He will have chicken balti tonight
He reports to Vicky that he had no luck with the tickets, and thinks he will have something different to eat tonight – chicken balti.
"Your behaviour has been weird"
Vicky enquires why he was knocking back all those cans last night;  “Your behaviour has been weird – are you sure nothing has upset you?   I sometimes feel you’re getting fed up with me.”
"I'll get a better grip on things from now on"
He protests that of course he is not, and promises to get a better grip on things from now on;  “It hasn’t been easy, has it?   Moving into the flat, making a home for you and Nicky – it takes time to adjust.   We can’t afford to get everything we want.”
"A problem shared . . ."
Vicky pleads with him to talk to her more, as a problem shared is a problem halved.   He still looks downcast, so she asks again, “Are you sure you don’t want to be somewhere else?”
"There is nowhere else"
He replies that there is nowhere else, and he wants to be with her and Nicky.
"I love you!"
“I love you,” he says,
This comes as a surprise to Vicky
and she remarks with amazement that he has never said that before;  he replies, “Well, I’ve realised how lucky I am!”
