8 January 2018

The process has begun . . .
Both Mathew and Dani are completing their respective DNA test forms;
. . . and Mathew signs at the bottom of the form
we see Mathew putting his signature at the bottom of the form.   He hears Vicky coming, so quickly puts it into the envelope.
Vicky has acquired a cactus
She has brought a cactus, which is surplus to requirements at Maes-y-Deri, and wonders where to put it.
Mathew is in a hurry to get to work on time, but Vicky says she will be late as she has to take Nicky to Elinor’s.
"Can you take Nicky to Elinor's?"
“Can you do it, as I want to talk to Garry and Dani, to ask if I can have more shifts.   Why don’t we have a housewarming party?”
"I don't have time now, Vicky"
He insists that he does not have time to discuss it now.
"The insurance has come through . . ."
At Penrhewl, Eifion is pleased that the insurance money for the turkeys has come through,
". . . and it's more than I expected!"
and it is £150 more than he was expecting;  Cadno regards this as a good start to the year, but he wonders what they should spend it on.   “We’ll have a treat – I’ll think of something!” but she wants him to check with her before he spends anything.
"It has to be something for the farm"
She specifies that it should not be something for them, but something for the farm.
Eifion has other ideas
However, he smiles conspiratorially.
"I'm not happy about this!"
“I’m not happy about this!” Dani tells Mathew;  he has done his sample and filled in the form, and urges her to do the same, stressing that it will only take five minutes.   When he takes the envelope from his jacket,
"Garry could be back any minute!"
Dani squeals, “What are you doing?   Garry could be back any minute!” and hides it under her dressing gown.
Mathew becomes threatening
“It would only take five minutes to tell everyone we slept together,” Mathew threatens, but she insists that if she goes through with this, she is doing it on her terms.
"Look, I will decide what happens next!"
If there is any need, she will decide what happens next, and she will post the samples.
"I don't trust you!"
“Well, I want to be with you then – because I don’t trust you!” he snarls.
"I should be in the salon"
In Cysgod y Glyn, Gethin is rather nervous when Sheryl arrives;  “I don’t have much time – I should be in the salon,” she says.
Gethin does not waste any time . . .
He kisses her,
. . . as her coat comes off
then wastes little time in starting to undress her.
Ffion is taking Arwen home from school . . .
Meanwhile, at the community school, another teacher brings Arwen to her mother,
. . . as she is very tired
who is concerned that she is feeling tired.   “Perhaps it’s too early for her to come back to school.
"Shall we go home?"
“Shall we go home?”
Back at the love nest, Gethin is really getting stuck in, when Sheryl finds that she is leaning on something uncomfortable.
"So that is what was poking into my back"
She pulls out one of Arwen’s dolls, which makes both of themthink;
Gethin feels guilty
“This isn’t a good idea, is it?” Sheryl asks, “Especially here!”
Then they hear someone coming
They both feel guilty and look at each other, then panic when they hear the front door closing.
"Arwen's not 100%"
Trying to make themselves look presentable, they greet Ffion and Arwen;  “She’s not 100%,” Ffion tells them.
Gethin comes up with a cock and bull story . . .
Gethin quickly manufactures an excuse that he has been helping Sheryl with her St Dwynwen’s Day surprise for Hywel, which also comes as a surprise to Sheryl.
. . . about putting together a CD
He alleges that he has been putting together a CD of old Welsh love songs.
"Gethin is getting less romantic"
Ffion agrees that she will not say a word about it, and comments that Gethin has become less romantic since they have been engaged.   Sheryl beats a hasty retreat,
"Your coat – over there – on the floor!"
after picking up her coat, which was discarded on the floor.
Arwen is sitting very quietly
Then Ffion and Gethin make a fuss of Arwen, who is sitting quietly on the sofa.
Dani takes a DNA sample from Carol
In the bathroom of the Deri flat, Dani very carefully takes a swab of saliva from Carol, while Mathew watches.
"Dani, are you all right in there?"
Outside, Garry knocks on the door, as he thought he heard voices.   “I’m just talking to Carol,” Dani assures him, then adds,
"Can you go out and get some nappies?"
“Can you go out and get some nappies?   I’m on the last one.”
He obediently does as he is told, and Dani wants Mathew to leave now;
Mathew takes the sambple swa
he takes the swab, placing it in the container.
Mathew looks very serious
Looking grim, he seals it inside the envelope, and Dani appears increasingly apprehensive.
Arwen is by now fast asleep;
"She was so tired at school"
“She was so tired at school, yawning and rubbing her eyes.   I feel a bit flat too – I’m trying not to worry.”   Gethin points out that it is only natural to worry about the tumour.
"I need some support!"
“I’m trying not to think of that – I need some support!” she snaps,
"Try to think before speaking!"
“Try to think before speaking – I’m on edge this week.”
Gethin has told Garry he will not be in on Thursday morning, so they can both go to the hospital for the results;  then he returns to the garage.
"She sleeps a lot, doesn't she?"
Garry comments that Carol sleeps a lot, and Dani says he should be grateful for that.
"Take her out for some fresh air"
He suggests, “Maybe it would be an idea to take her out for a bit of fresh air – you can’t deny it did you both good last week.”   She replies that it would be a pity to wake Carol up now.
"I can look after Carol . . ."
Then Garry has the idea that Dani could go out alone, while he will look after Carol;
"After all, I am her Dad"
“I am her Dad – there is no hurry – go to the café, have a coffee and cake.
Dani is very reluctant
“I’ll enjoy spending time with her.”
As soon as she gets outside . . .
Down in the bar, Mathew sees Dani leaving, and dashes out of the pub after her;  “I was wondering when you were going to post it,” he comments, but she calls him pathetic and tells him to go back inside.
. . . Mathew is on the case
He grabs her arm;  “I want to see you posting that letter!   This is my business!”
Dani is adamant, “I can’t wait to post it – and get the results in black and white that you’re nothing to do with Carol!” she growls.
"I have to go and see Mam"
Vicky comes out and asks Mathew to mind the bar, as she has to go and see her mother, and Dani orders him to go back inside, as she does not have time for this.
"Sorry he's so rude, Dani!"
Vicky apologises for his rudeness, explaining that he has not been himself lately;  “I’m concerned that he is worried about something – he’s moody all the time.”
"The extra shifts must be stressing him"
Dani maintains that he must be stressed, with all the extra shifts.
Mathew watches as she posts the letter
Mathew is still watching from the door of the Deri as Dani posts the envelope in the pillar box, and only then does he go back inside.
Garry enjoys cuddling the baby . . .
When Dani comes back, Garry is cuddling the baby,
. . . but Dani soon takes over
and she insists on taking Carol from him;  “Honestly, she only just started crying,” he says, but Dani apologises to her for going away,
"I won't leave you like that again!"
and promises never to leave her again like that.   Garry walks away, dispirited.
Outside the door of the salon,
Sheryl finds a text from Gethin . . .
Sheryl looks at a text from Gethin,
. . . and promptly deletes the evidence
and then deletes it;  Hywel is hurrying towards CwmFM and she calls to him,
"I can't stop – I have to go to CwmFM!"
but he cannot stop, and will phone her later.
Eifion's culinary efforts have come to nought
Eifion had intended to cook dinner, but there appears to be something wrong with the oven;
"The pot is still cold"
“It was supposed to be slow-cooked pork casserole, and it’s a bit too slow – the pot is still cold.   I think the element’s gone.”
"We know what to buy with the insurance money"
Cadno replies that it solves the problem of what to do with the insurance money.
“We don’t need a new oven, just a new element!” he insists, “The casserole will keep until tomorrow – I’ll put it in the fridge.
"I have a surprise for you"
“Shall we have dinner in the Deri?   I’ve got a surprise for you.”
"Yes, I was afraid of that"
“I was afraid you were going to say something like that,” Cadno sighs.
Ffion has arranged a day off on Thursday
Ffion tells Gethin that she has sorted out some time off to be with Arwen next week;
"Sorry I was a bit touchy earlier"
“I’m sorry I was a bit touchy earlier.”   He appreciates that she has a lot on her mind;
"I can't help imagining the worst!"
“I think about it constantly – I can’t help but worry, imagining the worst.   But what if the tiredness was something worse?   She cannot go through that again.”
"I'll be here for you, and for Arwen!"
He urges her to be positive;  “Whatever happens on Thursday, I’ll be here for you, and for Arwen!”
Ffion hugs him
She hugs him.
"I haven't forgotten something, have I?"
Hywel returns home and is disconcerted to see the table laid for a meal;  “I haven’t forgotten anything special, have I?” he enquires, “What have I done to deserve such fuss?”
Sheryl seems to be over-compensating
Sheryl explains that it is simply for being himself, and presents him with a glass of wine, saying she is fed up with people talking about Dry January.
"I've decided a date for the wedding"
“This is a nice surprise,” he says, but then she reveals another surprise, that she has decided on the date for the wedding – 15 June.   “I’m looking forward to it already,” he tells her, “I thought you would want to set a date after last week –
"You wouldn't want to be upstaged by Ffion and Gethin"
“you wouldn’t want to be upstaged by Ffion and Gethin.”
She protests that it is nothing to do with them;
"Why do you have to spoil it?"
“Why can’t you just enjoy the moment, instead of spoiling it.”   He says that he has been thinking a lot about it, and is delighted she has set a date.
They give Vicky their order
Eifion and Cadno are ordering the meal in the Deri for them and the boys,
"What's this surprise, then?"
then Cadno wants to know what this surprise is.
"Not any old hot tub"
Eifion shows her a picture on his tablet of a hot tub;  “Not any old hot tub – but top of the range!” he emphasises.
She objects, as they were supposed to be getting something for the farm, and wonders if he is going to use it for dipping the sheep.
The idea excites Bobi
“It will be fun, like having a swimming pool all year round,” and Bobi is in favour of this.
“You work hard enough to deserve some bubbles – you’ll enjoy it too!” he continues,
"Sitting there, looking up at the moon!"
“Imagine sitting there with a glass of wine, looking up at the moon, nice and warm in the bubbles.”
"You've already bought it, haven't you?"
She comes to the realisation that he has already bought it, but he explains that he had to;  “The half-price offer ended today!”   Cadno is quite clear that he will have to cancel it.
"Do you think we'll be like that one day?"
At the bar, Vicky looks across enviously across at them, and asks Mathew, “Do you think we’ll be like that one day?”
"That family have had problems"
He says that the family has had problems as well, but she urges him not to be like that;
"You're negative all the time"
“You’re negative all the time – and you haven’t said what you think about a housewarming party.”
He is of the opinion that it is not the right time, as everyone is tired of parties.  She suggests that they need some fun;  “How about a takeaway tonight from Cwm Delhi?”
"Yes, OK then"
and he condescendingly agrees to this.
Garry has prepared a luxurious bath for Dani
Garry shepherds Dani, with a glass of champagne, into the bathroom, where many candles are burning, which she regards as rather OTT.
"You deserve to be spoiled"
“You need to relax, have a break,” he tells her, “You deserve to be spoiled – it’s hard work, tending to a baby all day.   You need to share the burden, share the pleasure, and take Carol out a bit –
"You're already starting to relax
“see, you’re already starting to relax.   Right, where are those posh oils I bought for you?”
Whoops – the word 'PATERNITY'
Dani suddenly notices something protruding from under the bath mat;  she immediately stands on it, and asks Garry to go and check on Carol.
"Yes, Dani, I'll go and check on her"
“Please, Gar – you’re the one who said you wanted to be with her!”   He tells her to relax and enjoy herself, and goes to check on the baby.
It is the DNA test instructions . . .
She retrieves the paper, which bears instructions for the use of the DNA test;
. . . and Dani bursts into tears
she screws it up and bursts into tears.
