24 January 2018

"Everything packed yet?"
Kath asks Non if she has everything packed for the hospital;  Mark went there yesterday, and half of his stuff was not packed, Kath complains.
"Being nervous is only natural, isn't it?"
Non looks very worried;  “Being nervous is only natural, isn’t it?”
Kath knows how difficult it has been for her, and so does Mark;  “You’re a lot stronger than you think – and I’m proud of both of you.
"I'll be there for you"
“I’ll be there for you today, OK?”
"Mark is worried about his slippers"
Debbie comes in, reporting that she has just phoned Mark, and all he was worried about was that he left his slippers at home.
"We don't want him to look like a tramp"
She sets about cleaning them, as she does not want him to look like a tramp.
The garden at Bryntirion
We visit the back garden at Bryntirion,
Time for the first tasting
where Dai and DJ are having the first tasting of DJ’s home-made beer in the garage.   Dai insists, “I told Diane we would get rid of this stuff, and we will.
"You've produced some wonderful stuff here"
“In the meantime there’s nothing to stop us having a few glasses.   Fair play, DJ, you’ve produced some wonderful stuff here – and I know my beer – I’ve drunk enough of it over the years.   There’s a kick to this – and it tastes moreish!”
"I thought I could call it 'DJ's Dynamite'!"
DJ had thought of calling it ‘DJ’s Dynamite’ – “It must be about 7% or 8% proof – but we had better stop, as Diane is expecting you at APD.   When we move this kit later, where are we going to put it?”
"You know that shed behind the changing rooms"
Dai replies that it is all arranged;  “You know that shed behind the changing rooms at the rugby club?
"But that's locked"
“I have got the keys, because I’m the chairman.
"Diane will not go anywhere near"
“It’s somewhere Diane will never go anywhere near.   You will be Master Brewer and I will be Chief Taster!   We can start tonight and christen the place.”
Hannah has brought some lunch
Chester is working at APD, and Hannah has brought him some lunch;  “Couscous and lots of healthy stuff – nuts, apricots – I didn’t think you would have eaten at school.
"We can have have something together"
“We can have something together before you start your shift.”
He puts down the box file . . .
He puts down his box file,
. . . the the couscous goes flying
and it knocks the couscous on to the floor.
They start clearing up behind the counter
They get a brush and dustpan and are clearing up the mess, when Diane comes in, telling Sara she got an e-mail from Emma this morning.
"She's still in hospital"
“She’s still in hospital – she could easily have been killed.”   Sara points out that is even more reason to tell Hannah, but Diane is adamant she will not do so.
"What has happened, Gran?"
Hannah and Chester pop up from behind the counter, and Hannah demands what has happened.
Non arrives at the hospital
Non arrives at the hospital and goes to see Mark;
"I've seen the anaesthetist"
he reports that he has seen the anaesthetist, and has been on anti-rejection drugs since yesterday.   Now it is simply a matter of waiting;  “I don’t remember feeling so nervous the first time.”
"We shall be all right"
Non reassures him that once they go in, everything will be all right.   “Me, wittering on about nerves is the last thing you want to hear,” he says.
She agrees that it is hard to know what to say;
"We'll get through it – I know we will!"
as Mark hugs her, she tells him, “We’ll get through it – I know we will!”
"Why didn't you tell me?"
Hannah is furious, demanding, “Why didn’t you tell me?   You tell me not to worry?   She can’t move!   And you weren’t going to tell me – you’re unbelievable!”
"Jason is going on behalf of all of us"
Diane replies that her mother is happy for Jason to go out there to help.   He is going out on behalf of all of them, and Emma is happy with that.
"Nobody asked me!"
“Nobody asked me!” rages Hannah, and Diane stresses that this is an important year with her schoolwork.   She is not placated;
"My mother is more important than schoolwork!"
“No!   I should decide what my priorities are – and my mother is more important than schoolwork!”   She marches out of APD, and Chester expresses disapproval of Diane’s methods.
"Hannah's just found out!
Then Dai comes in, and is told that Hannah just found out;
"The 'what do you call it' is going to hit the fan!"
Diane predicts, “Now the ‘what do you call it’ is going to hit the fan!”
"I'm going to the bog – I'm ill!"
Dai is looking very uncomfortable and informs them that he is going to the ‘bog’, as he is ill.
DJ is experiencing the same symptoms . . .
At Awyr Iach, where Kath is working to fulfil an order, DJ is looking similarly unwell;  he says he cannot finish the order for her and groans, “Something’s moving, but I don’t know if it’s going up or down!”
. . . and also disappears into the toilet
He dashes off to the toilet, just as Debbie arrives, to be told that it is probably food poisoning.
"You can't leave Non on her own"
Debbie cannot wait;  “You have to come now – you can’t leave Non on her own!   You said she was nervous.”
"How long will you be in there?"
When Kath shouts, asking how long DJ will be in there, he replies, “For ever!” and there is the sound of vomiting.   Kath will get to Non as soon as she can.
"I've been left out of every decision!"
Hannah rushes round to number 9, shouting to Sara that she has been left out of every decision again.
"I've had enough of being treated like a child!"
“I’ve had enough of being treated like a child!”   Then Diane follows her in,
"Your mother wouldn't want you bunking off school"
and explains that the last thing her mother would want is for her to bunk off her schoolwork and exams.
“Let her tell me that face to face in Australia!” Hannah insists, “I’ll go with Jason – I can make my own plans, just like I can make up my own mind!  The first thing is going home,
"Just try and stop me!"
“as far away from you and Cwmderi as possible!   I’m an adult – I’ve got a passport and I’m going to use it – just try and stop me!”
Hannah flounces out in a temper
She storms out of the house.
"I feel awful, Chester!"
Dai tells Chester that he feels awful,
"Hannah wants to go back to Australia"
then Diane returns, advising that Hannah wants to go back to Australia.   Chester rushes out to find her.
Dai is doubled up with pain
Dai groans with pain, then vomits into a bucket.   DJ comes in, suffering the same problem,
DJ has the same problem
then heads rapidly for the toilet.
"That homebrew must have been off!"
“That homebrew must have been off or something,” Dai admits, and Diane realises that he has been going behind her back again.   “It seemed a shame to waste it, after all the hard work DJ had put in,” he adds.
"You're getting no sympathy from me!"
“Well, you’re getting no sympathy from me!” she announces, “And that kit is going to disappear.   You’re doing it today – however you feel – or it won’t be just the beer kit being kicked out!”
"I don't want you to go back!"
Chester arrives at Bryntirion and exclaims that he does not want Hannah going back to Australia.
"Don't panic – I'm not going!"
“I’m not going,” she calmly replies, “I just wanted to give Gran a fright.   I’m fuming that she didn’t tell me!”
"Hannah Francis, you're naughty!"
“So you’re doing this just to wind her up?” Chester says, “Hannah Francis, you’re naughty!”
"I've texted Mam"
She has texted her mother, who is OK, and wants her to stay here.   He thinks it would be amusing to carry on with the pretence that Hannah is going.
"No, it's going today!"
As they are escorted into the garage, Dai promises that he will get rid of it all tomorrow, but Diane is insistent that it must be today, and hopes that they have learned their lesson at last.
She has another mess to sort out
“Now sort this out – while I sort another mess out!”
"Never again, DJ!"
Dai confesses, “I never thought I’d say this, DJ, but never again!”
"It's all right – I'm not going"
As they sit, drinking tea in the kitchen of Bryntirion, Chester and Hannah are disturbed by the arrival of Sara, who is still arguing that it is not a good idea for Hannah to go.   Hannah confirms that she is not going.
Diane is angry that . . .
Diane comes in through the back door, and is pleased to hear this, but is rather aggrieved
. . . Hannah has been winding her up
to hear that Hannah has been deliberately winding her up.   Chester smiles;  “You’ve been treating me like a child!” snarls Hannah, and Sara unsuccessfully tries to calm the situation. “I’m going a long way from this madhouse,” Hannah tells her, and goes, followed by Chester.”
"You don't always know what is best!"
“Perhaps you won’t treat her like a baby next time,” suggests Sara, “You don’t always know what’s best!   You should remember that.”
Non sits alone . . .
Non sits by her bedside in hospital,
. . . with her 'family' pendant
clutching the ‘family’ pendant;
A nurse comes in . . .
a nurse comes in with a trolley, and asks if anyone is on the way to be with her.
. . . and Non is getting anxious
Non is becoming anxious,
Then the anaesthetist arrives
then Malcolm, the anaesthetist, arrives.
When they are called away, she begins to panic
An alarm sounds somewhere and they both hurry off, leaving Non, who begins to panic.
"I'm not planning to kick the bucket yet"
Mark is all prepared for the operation, and tells Debbie that he is not planning to kick the bucket yet;  Kath comes in to check on him.
"Oh – I've missed all the fun"
She reports that DJ was sick because of some homebrew;  “He and Dai have been brewing behind Diane’s back.   Mark thinks he has missed all the fun.
“Right, I’d better go to Non – she is on her own – see you later,” Kath says,
Kath kisses him
and kisses him.
She talks to Non through the curtains
When she gets to Non’s bed, the curtains are all closed, and she speaks to Non from outside.   “Sorry I’m late – I know it’s not easy for you to be here, but we’re all here now.   You won’t have to wait long, I’ll be here for you.
"I've just seen Mark"
“I’ve just seen Mark, and he’s good – I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you’re doing this for my son he’s still my little boy.”
There is no sign of Non . . .
As she has received no response, she opens the curtains, only to find the bed empty,
. . . only of her identity tag
and the identity tag lying there.
A search is instigated
Kath asks the nurse where Non is, and she goes to investigate.
“Imagine, no more dialysis – you’ll be a free man!” says Debbie,
"We can go to see Dol"
“Hey, we can go to Torremolinos to see Dol – a cheap holiday.”
"I don't want a relapse!"
He thinks that will give him a relapse.
"Non's gone!"
Kath comes in with the bad news, “Non’s gone!
"What do you mean – gone?"
“She’s left the hospital and taken her stuff with her.   She’s not answering her phone – I don’t know what’s going on!”
Mark is absolutely stunned
Mark is absolutely stunned.
