2 January 2018

Gethin's mind is not on the job
Gethin is taking the wheel off a car in the garage when he stops, puts on his jacket and walks out;
"I was on my way to see you
on the corner he meets Sheryl and tells her he was on the way to see her.   She replies that she was not expecting an engagement celebration,
"That engagement was quite a surprise"

and it was quite a surprise;  Gethin says that he was surprised too.
"If I had known she was going to propose"
They go back into the garage;  “If I had known that Ffion was going to propose to me, I wouldn’t have kissed you like I did,” he assures her.   Sheryl is just happy for them, and explains that it is easy;  they just have to forget about that kiss,
"It was more than just a kiss!"
but he maintains that it was more than just a kiss.
He did not sleep a wink last night, for thinking of her;  “We can’t just pretend it didn’t happen,” he says,
"Well, it must not happen again"
but she is adamant that it must not happen again.
Eifion is having trouble with the 4x4
Then Eifion arrives, in Penrhewl’s 4x4, and congratulates Gethin;  “When’s the party, then?” he enquires,
"You and Hywel will have to get your skates on"
then turns to Sheryl;  “You and Hywel will have to get your skates on, or they will beat you to it.”   He wants Gethin to have a look at the 4x4, as there is a light on the dash.
"No, Mam, you stay there another day"
At Maes-y-Deri, Mark is on the phone to his mother, telling her she can stay another day, as he is fine, and Non is here looking after him.
"Mam's staying in Bristol"
He tells Non that Kath is staying with her friend in Bristol for another night;
Non has received an official letter
however she does not take any notice, as she has received a letter marked NHS.   She tells him she needs to get a few things from the shop, and she will not be long;
Mark is far from well
Mark is not feeling as well as the impression he is trying to give.
Garry finds the little soft toy from Mathew and Vicky in the bin:  “I don’t think it’s safe,” Dani tells him,
"All right – I don't like it!"
then, more honestly, adds, “All right, I don’t like it.   I fancy going for a walk – what you say?
"I can't stay here for ever, can I?"
I can’t stay here for ever, can I?”
"We could be back before then"
Garry protests that he has asked Colin to come and take photos today;  “We could be back before then –
"I like Carol!"
I want to make an appointment to register the baby – I like Carol!   It has grown on me, and it’s nice that you chose it.”
"Right then, Carol Monk"
“Right then, Carol Monk,” Garry tells the baby, “You’re going out to see the world.”
"A wide-angle lens!"
Colin considers that he needs a wide-angle lens, but Non cannot wait to tell him,
"I've had a letter!"
“I’ve had a letter from the assessment team – but I haven’t read it yet – I’m too afraid!”   She hands the letter to Colin.
Colin digests the contents
He reads it, and then announces, “They are willing to recommend you as a candidate to donate a kidney – it’s here in black and white –
"This is fantastic news!"
this is fantastic news!   There is nothing stopping you from being a donor, is there?”
"I had been secretly hoping . . ."
She admits that she had been secretly hoping they would not recommend her, but he insists that the last hurdle has now been cleared.   “Mark still thinks I only have one kidney – how am I going to explain that it was a lie?”
"Mark will understand"
Colin is sure that Mark will understand, and Ricky already knows.   “But Kath and Debbie will be angry that he knew before them,” she worries, “The whole thing is a mess!”
Colin urges her not to panic, as they will all be glad that she can help him, and reminds her that he needs that kidney now more than ever.
"I had such a fright last week"
“I had such a fright when he was ill last week – I don’t want him to suffer any more,” she says, “I have to do it, and there is nothing to stop me now.”
"She's wrapped up like an Eskimo!"
Garry and Dani come downstairs into the Deri, and Dani is in a hurry to go,
"Come on, Garry – we have to go now!"
so she stops Garry from telling Britt about the baby’s name;
Mathew is his usual emotional self
Mathew as usual looks as if he is about to burst into tears.
"Dreaming of the wedding, are you?"
Eifion returns to the garage, but Gethin has forgotten all about his 4x4, and agrees to look at it now.   “Head in the clouds – dreaming of the wedding, are you?” says Eifion, “Did you go down on one knee?”
"She's obviously more keen than you!"
Gethin replies that Ffion asked him, and Eifion comments, “She’s obviously more keen than you!”
Sheryl gazes absentmindedly out of the window
Sheryl is gazing out of the window of the salon when Cadno arrives, wanting an appointment for this week,
"How about one o'clock on Thursday?"
and is allocated one o’clock on Thursday.   She has just heard the news about Ffion and Gethin getting married;  “Perhaps she will ask you to be a bridesmaid, and Hywel could be his best man.”
Cheryl forgets to write down the appointment;
"I don't know where my head is today!"
“I don’t know where my head is today!” she remarks,
"Did you overdo it at Christmas?"
and Cadno suspects that she overdid it at Christmas.
Non hesitates outside the door
Non reaches the front door at Maes-y-Deri and hesitates, then goes inside;
She finds Mark in a bad state
Mark is not looking very well, and says that he has not yet got used to the new tablets.
When she explains the letter, he is not listening
“Listen, I lied to you earlier – this isn’t a bill, it’s a letter.   And it’s not the only lie I’ve told – I’ve had the tests
"I'm a suitable donor for you!"
and I’m a suitable kidney donor for you.”
Mark has not taken this in, and although he insists that he is feeling better,
"I'm going for a lie down"
he decides to go to lie down for a while;  “I shall feel better after a nap,” he tells her.   She will tell him about the letter after he has had some rest,
"I'll make you lunch later"
and will make him lunch.
"We have to settle this, once and for all"
Sheryl returns to the garage and tells Gethin, “We have to settle this once and for all.”
But they need a bit of privacy
He shepherds her into the garage
"We have to forget what happened!"
as she goes on, “I don’t know what came over us yesterday – but we have to forget that it happened!”
"That's impossible!"
“I know we should, and I know we agreed last week to avoid each other, but it’s impossible!” he replies.   She points out that they have no choice, as he is engaged;  “That doesn’t stop me thinking about you!” he protests, “I can’t concentrate on my work at all!”   She agrees that neither can she, but they have to be sensible.   Gethin does not know if he can be;
One thing leads . . .
they kiss once more –
. . . to another
and then again.
Gethin locks the door . . .
She urges him to go and lock the door;
. . . pulls down the blind . . .
he does so, and pulls down the blind,
It is just as well that the break occurs here!
and they resume what they were doing.
"She has been on her first outing"
When Garry and Dani return to the Deri, Cadno takes a look at the baby,  and Garry explains that she has been on her first outing.   They have been to the registry office, and Dani proudly informs Cadno that her name is Carol, which she describes as perfect.
Mathew is listening in . . .
Mathew, of course, is listening, and appears rather displeased.   Cadno wants to book a table for two this afternoon,
. . . and is off up the stairs . . .
and while Garry is arranging this, Mathew slips upstairs.
. . . where Dani is not pleased to see him
“Are you deaf?   I said I didn’t want you up here,” Dani snarls at him, “And what was that nonsense yesterday about you babysitting Carol?”
“I’m glad you like the name I suggested,” he tells her,
"It means a lot, my grandmother's name being passed on"
“It means a lot, my grandmother’s name being passed on.
"You suggested it?"
As you said to Cadno, it’s the perfect name – and you can’t change it now!”
"Get out, Mathew!"
She tells him to go, but then Garry comes in, with Britt and Colin;
"I hope Carol smiles for the camera!"
he hopes that Carol is going to smile for the camera, and asks Mathew to help him shift the sofa, to make more room for photographs.
"Why didn't you tell me it was Mathew's idea?"
“Why didn’t you tell me that the name was Mathew’s idea?” Dani demands, “I thought it was your idea!”
"We both like the name"
Garry replies that all that matters is that they both like the name.
"Ooh – Carol Monk!"
Britt is very pleased to see it in print on the birth certificate – Carol Monk – and welcomes her to the family.
At least, they have their clothes on now
On the sofa in the garage, Sheryl and Gethin get dressed, and stress that neither of them would turn the clock back.
"I'd better go, Geth"
She thinks she had better go, and he receives a phone call from Ffion.
"It's been a quiet day here"
“Hi, Ffi, yes everything’s fine here – it’s been a quiet day.”
"I hope it's not the peritonitis again!"
Mark comes back downstairs, but does not want any food, and hopes that it is not the peritonitis again.
Non shows him the letter . . .
She shows him the letter from the Human Tissue Authority;
. . . and he is incredulous
“That’s what I was trying to tell you earlier,” she begins, “I can give you a kidney – I lied about only having one – I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to face the operation,
"All that matters is that I can help you"
but if I can help you, that is all that matters.”
He is upset that Colin knew before he did,
Non helps him to the sofa
but then is about to collapse, so Non helps him to the sofa and fetches his tablets.
"Right, say Caerphilly!"
Colin has set up his camera,
Dani looks grim
but Dani is not the mood for being photographed.   “Can you look a bit happier?” Colin asks her.
"Chester doesn't take any notice of me!"
Britt receives a text to say that Catrin and Aaron are on their way;  “Chester doesn’t take any notice of me – I told him to be here at 3 o’clock on the dot!”
"Now one of Carol with her father"
Colin wants to take a photo of Carol with her father,
"Look, you've made her cry now!"
and Garry accuses Dani of being miserable.
When Colin offers to come back tomorrow,
"Come on, give her to me!"
she moans that she does not want all this palaver again, then returns to the sofa and insists that Garry give the baby back;  she urges Colin to take the photos quickly.
They will get compensation for the turkeys
Cadno and Eifion are dining at the Deri as the boys are at a birthday party;  “And the insurance company has said we will get compensation after what happened with turkeys.   It’s a good start to the year,” says Eifion.
"Have you heard about Ffion and Gethin?"
Cadno asks if he has heard about Ffion and Gethin who have also had an exciting start to the year,
"Well, he didn't look very excited"
but he says that Gethin did not look very excited earlier.   “She proposed to him!” Cadno replies, and Eifion asks Mathew when he will be proposing to Vicky,
"We're happy as we are"
but is told that they are happy as they are.
"Don't want to start changing nappies yet, do you?"
“Don’t want to start changing nappies yet, do you?” Eifion comments.
Sheryl leaves the salon
Sheryl locks up the salon, and, inevitably, Gethin comes across the road,
"Nice to have something to look forward to"
but is waylaid by Britt, who remarks, “Being engaged obviously suits you.   It will be nice for you to have something to look forward to, after all that you’ve been through.
"I'll buy you both a drink"
The next time you’re in the Deri, I’ll buy you both a drink.
I'm going to phone for a doctor"
Non finds that Mark’s temperature is sky high, but he is adamant he will be fine when the tablets kick in;  she is about to phone for a doctor,
"I'm not going back to hospital!"
but he is insistent he will not go back to hospital.   Just then, Colin comes to visit, and Non explains, “Something’s wrong, but he won’t let me phone anyone.”
"Ring for an ambulance, quickly!"
Mark tries to stand, but collapses on to the sofa, and Colin tells Non to phone for an ambulance, quickly.
