5 April 2018

Dai is unimpressed by Sara's videos
After having watched Sara’s video on his laptop,
"Nefi wen!"
Dai exclaims, “Nefi wen!   Where does Sara find the time to film such nonsense?   You would think she was busy enough looking after Ifan and Awyr Iach!”
"Many women are in the same boat"
Diane points out that many women are in the same boat – having to juggle a full-time job with raising children.   “Yes, but not everybody puts it on the Internet!”
"Who does she think she is – Lady Gaga?"
he moans, “Who does she think she is – Lady Gaga?”
"I thought DJ would be back by now"
Diane thought that DJ would be back from Swansea by now, and Dai is surprised that he did not come home last night.   “I couldn’t sleep, because I was worried about where he was,” she says, but Dai replies that he is old enough to look after himself.
"Have you seen the paper this morning?"
Diane also hopes that Sioned is all right;  “Have you seen the paper this morning?”
Another stabbing in Swansea
She shows him the headline, ‘Second Homeless Stabbing’, and he is sure that Sioned is in some bed-and-breakfast somewhere.   “Wherever she is, you can bet that DJ is out looking for her,” maintains Diane.
"I'll see if he went straight to work"
She will go to Awyr Iach to check if he has gone straight to work.
In the café, Cadno receives some very welcome news by phone;  she breathes a sigh of relief, and dials Eifion’s number.
Cadno tells Eifion her good news . . .
“You’re not going to believe this – I’ve just spoken with the solicitor – I don’t have to face a court case, as there’s not enough evidence.   I’ll meet you in the Deri in half an hour.”
. . . which is overheard by Kelly
Kelly has been listening to this, and also Kath’s antennae have received the information;
"Don't let her near me!"
she tells Kelly, “If anything happens to me, like an illness, old age, anything – don’t let her near me!   I’m going to Tomos ac Ellis because I’m selling Maes-y-Deri .   It’s too big for me on my own – put it like this, Kelly, when someone has given everyone all they have over the years, the time comes to put themselves first.
"I'm putting myself first!"
“That’s what I’m going to do – put myself first!”
"Do you know where they are?"
Megan comes in, looking very flustered, and demands, “Do you know where they are?   The gnomes – they’ve disappeared!”
"I wanted to share the good news with Eileen"
As Cadno comes out of the shop, she encounters Diane, and informs her that Eileen has gone to Carmarthen.   “I wanted to share the good news with her,” Cadno says, “That I won’t be prosecuted.   There isn’t enough evidence for a court case.”
Diane protests that Cadno admitted it –
"You'll have it on your conscience for ever!"
“That makes you entirely innocent, does it?   But you’ll have it on your conscience for ever!” growls Diane.
"I don't feel guilty for helping Linda"
Cadno denies this because she does not not feel guilty for helping Linda;  “Unlike you, I won’t have to feel guilty for shopping a friend!”
A deputation arrives at Y Felin . . .
A deputation arrives at Y Felin,
. . . led by Investigator Kath Jones
and Kath immediately demands, “Where are they?   You know what – the gnomes!”   Megan adds that someone has removed them from the centre of Cwmderi.
Then she suspects Anita
“You weren’t keen on them,” Kath accuses him, “Do you know anyone else who was not keen on them?   Yes – Anita!”   As she goes rushing off, Kelly and Megan protest that Anita would not do such a thing.
"He's nowhere in the village"
Diane has been unable to find any trace of DJ, but Dai is convinced that he will be fine.   “What if something’s happened to him?” she frets,
"There's a psychopath in Swansea!"
“There’s a psychopath on the streets of Swansea – stabbing young women!”
"DJ is a big, strapping man!"
Dai reminds her that DJ is not a young woman, but a big, strapping man.
"He'll put himself in danger!"
Nevertheless she goes on, “If he tries to save Sioned, he’ll put himself in danger.   I’m going to look for him – I can’t concentrate on anything – I’m worried sick!”
Dai reminds her of the mountain of paperwork they have to deal with,
"All right, then – I'll drive!"
but concedes that he will never hear the end of this, so will drive her to Swansea.
Cadno tells Ed . . .
Cadno is waiting at the Deri, but Eifion has been delayed;  she tells Ed of her good news,
. . . who says she must be relieved
and he replies that she must be relieved.   Kelly comes in, and asks if he has seen anything weird going on;
"Detective Superintendent Kath Jones has roped me in!"
“Like someone stealing 14 garden gnomes?   And Detective Superintendant Kath Jones has roped me in to help find them – that’s why I have escaped here.”
"You got off scot-free, then!"
Kelly is dismissive about Cadno’s news;  “You got off scot-free.”   Cadno says the last few weeks have felt like years, but Kelly replies, “You’re not going to be prosecuted – you can carry on with your life – not everyone gets it that easy!”
"That was a bit harsh, Kel"
Cadno decides to leave, and Ed tells Kelly that she was a bit harsh.
Dai and Diane are on their search . . .
Dai and Diane are trudging around the streets of Swansea, and Diane suggests that they split up.
. . . when they see a homeless person
Dai will not entertain that, but sees a homeless person and decides to talk to him.
"Perhaps he's the one who's been stabbing women"
“Perhaps he’s the one who’s been going round stabbing women!” she exclaims.
"Do you speak Welsh?"
“Excuse me,” says Dai (in English), “We’re looking for somebody,” and is surprised that the man, whose name is Paul, speaks Welsh.   “I’m looking for my son, to be honest with you – his name is DJ,” Dai continues, “He’s here looking for a woman who we think lives on the streets.
"Are you a builder – from Cwrtmynach?"
“Hang on,” says Paul, “You look familiar – are you a builder?   From Cwrtmynach?”
Dai recognises him from years ago
Dai replies that they are from Cwmderi, and Paul reveals that he used to work in the bank in Carmarthen, which Dai used.
“I haven’t seen the man you’re looking for – but I’ve got an idea of where the woman could be –
He shows them where they could look
“I could show you if you want.”   They walk together along the street.
"It's not fair, Ed!"
Kelly tells Ed that he suffered for ages, but Cadno’s case was over in a few weeks;  “It’s not fair!”   He replies that Cadno is braver than he will ever be.
Siôn tries unsuccessfully to calm things
Then Kath comes in, with Megan and Siôn, who suspects that it is youngsters or drunkards who have taken the gnomes.   Kelly sees them coming, and mutters, “Here comes the Spanish Inquisition!”
This time, Kath accuses Kelly
“We’ve been all around the village, and I think you and Anita are hiding them!” Kath announces.
"What would I want with 14 ugly gnomes?"
Kelly wonders what she would want with 14 ugly gnomes, and stresses that the fact that she does not like them means that she has got a bit of taste.
Kath demands Kelly's key
Kath demands the key to number 10, so that they can check the place;  “No way – you’ll have to get a search warrant!” laughs Kelly,
"I don't know where they are, and nor does Anita!"
“There aren’t any gnomes in the house – or buried under the concrete – I don’t know where they are, and nor does Anita!”
Megan concludes, “Therefore, you shouldn’t have any objection to us looking.”
Ed finds it funny
Kelly finally agrees to accompany them there, and Ed is amused by the incident.
Paul takes them to a Women's Shelter . . .
Paul has taken Dai and Diane to a building which gives specialist assistance to women;  they are very grateful,
. . . and refuses any payment
and Diane offers him some money, but he refuses it.   “Give it to the centre – they accept donations at reception.
"Good luck with the business"
“Good luck with the search, and the construction business.”
As he walks away, Dai remarks, “A banker from Carmarthen –
No-one knows what is around the corner"
“no-one knows what is around the corner.”   Then DJ suddenly walks up behind them, and tells them that there is still no sign of Sioned.
"She might be inside there"
Diane says that this is a women-only centre, and that she might be inside.
Right on cue, Sioned appears . . .
At that very moment, Sioned comes out and tries to run away from the pursuing DJ,
. . . and is chased by DJ
who soon catches her
He is glad that she is OK
and is pleased to see that she is all right.
Sioned is on the receiving end of Diane's tongue
Diane complains, “Do you have any idea of the trouble you’ve caused?” and DJ tells her that he will deal with this, so Dai and Diane withdraw,
"Come on, we'll go and have some lunch"
and go to have some lunch.
DJ will buy Sioned a cup of tea
DJ says he will buy Sioned a cup of tea.
Kath's search proves fruitless
After conducting an exhaustive search of number 10, there is no sign of any gnomes;  Kath is of the opinion that they have to be here somewhere;
"We should report it to the police!"
“I think we should report it to the police!”
"You're bonkers!"
Kelly describes her as ‘bonkers’,
"Let's look at this objectively"
but Siôn suggests they should stand back and look at this objectively, and they finally leave the house.
Sioned is not saying much
In a Swansea café, Sioned is not very talkative;
"I could take you to a hotel"
“I could take you to a hotel, suggests DJ, “You could have a bath, and I could find somewhere to wash your clothes.   I thought you would be more comfortable.”
"Why do you want to help me?"
She wonders why he wants to help her, as the last thing she wants is for someone to take advantage.   He insists that he is not trying to do that, but is simply worried about her.
"I'm not the only one who's concerned"
“I read in the paper that women had been stabbed,” he continues, “And I’m not the only one who’s concerned – I talked to your mother.   Listen, I know what it’s like, from experience, to be sleeping rough.”
"Years ago, I ran away, too"
She suspects that he has missed the last bus home on a Saturday night, but he tells her, “Years ago, I ran away, too, and a friend came looking for me – he helped me sort myself out.”
"I can look after myself!"
Sioned assures him that she can look after herself, but he replies, “When will you stop being so stubborn, come to your senses and go home?”   She gets up to leave, but he pleads with her to stay, as he does not want to put her under pressure.
"The Subcommittee for Missing Gnomes"
In the Deri, Kath demands what the committee is going to do now, and insists that this is the Subcommittee for Missing Gnomes.
"I'm going to have a serious panic attack!"
Kelly gets up and returns to Ed by the bar;  “If I hear the word ‘gnome’ one more time, I’m going to have a serious panic attack!” she tells him.
"I noticed they were missing this morning"
Megan says that she noticed they were missing this morning, and Kath asks who was around the village this morning, deciding that Cadno is a suspect.   She adds that Cadno will not now have to go to court, as there is not enough evidence.
Dai and Diane are back from Swansea, and need a drink
Dai and Diane are back from their visit to Swansea, and overhear Megan
"If Cadno acknowledged she killed Linda . . ."
as she says, “If Cadno acknowledged that she killed Linda, that must be enough evidence.”   Siôn considers that ‘kill’ is not an appropriate word in this context, but Kath protests that Linda is dead.
Dai overhears her
Dai is furious and goes to confront them;
"Can you hear what you're saying?"
“Can you hear what you’re saying?   Spreading rumours round the place – I heard you from over there!
"DJ's gone through hell these last few weeks!"
“Just so you know, DJ’s gone through hell all these past few months – and now when he’s starting to come to terms with it, you're opening old wounds again!
"You turn my stomach!"
“You turn my stomach!   If Linda could hear you, she’d be turning in her grave too!”
That farmyard does not get any less muddy
It is still raining at Penrhewl, and Cadno is back from taking the boys out for a walk to the bottom field.   “Now they’re crashed out in front of the telly – supper, bath and an early night,” she tells Eifion, “It was so nice doing something normal – I can’t believe it’s all over.”
"Anita's taken a sample of our meat for tapas"
He says that he has some good news as well;  “I’ve spoken to Anita, and she’s taken a sample of our meat for tapas.   She must be considering us as a possible supplier.”
DJ has the front page of the Western Post
DJ shows Sioned the front page of the newspaper, and says that he is going home;  “I’m not going to ask you again.”

"I'm not going back to Cwmderi"
She still insists that she is not coming, but then seems to have a change of mind, as she reads that the latest victim is a year younger than her.
"I know of somewhere else"
As his final offer, DJ proposes, “Come back with me – not to Cwmderi, but I know of somewhere else.   You have to trust me!”
Sioned is persuaded, and goes with him
After she gives it a moment’s thought, she gets up and they both leave.
