10 September 2018

Non has a major problem
Non discovers that a spot has erupted on her face, is very upset and screams with frustration;
"What's the matter?"
Debbie rushes upstairs to find out what the problem is.
"What am I going to do?"
“I’ve got a date with DJ tonight – and look!   What am I going to do?”
She is not encouraged by Debbie’s comment, “He won’t look at that – you’ll be too busy snogging,” but Non is quite sure that nobody would want to kiss her, looking like that.   She squeals as Debbie attempts to squeeze it.
"These doughnuts are more like rock cakes!"
In the café, Kelly is on the phone, complaining, “The doughnuts you sent me this morning are more like rock cakes – I will find another supplier!”
"You're looking posh today"
Then she notices Britt, and says that she is looking posh today;
"I'm interviewing for a taxi driver"
Britt tells her that she is interviewing for a new taxi driver, but she is used to interviewing staff for the chip shop.
She is just preparing some questions for the candidates, and as Ed has applied, she says it would not be fair on the other person if he knew the questions beforehand.   “I don’t know why Ed is bothering – he has a job already,” she says,
"Stinking of chip fat every night!"
but Kelly is far from impressed with him coming home, stinking of chip fat, every night.
"I mean he enjoys driving taxis"
Then she explains that what she meant was that Ed enjoys driving taxis;  at that moment Ed comes in;  Britt admonishes him that he should be over at the chip shop.
Ed comes home to get changed
He explains that he came over to get changed for the interview, and Madge is covering for him.
"Can't you move this rubbish?"
At Maes-y-Deri, Debbie wants Kath to shift her boxes,
"It's not rubbish – it's my stock!"
but she says they are her stock, and she is trying to make some money to send Ricky to university.   Ricky comes in and once again informs her that he is not going;  she insists, “You’re just saying that because you think we can’t afford it.”
"That's not how you spell 'conditioner'!"
He looks at the laptop screen and informs her, “That is not how you spell ‘conditioner’!”
Mark is back from his round
Mark returns from his delivery round, and his mother tells him that they are going to think of a way to send Ricky to university, but Mark is in a hurry.
"You don't care that your son is throwing away his future?"
“You don’t care that your son is throwing away his future, even though he’s so clever?” she rants, “He takes after our side of the family!”
Non creeps in, surreptitiously
Non is trying to avoid the rest of the family, and has a scarf around her face;    Debbie explains that she squeezed a spot on Non’s chin.
"I've got an interview for the taxi driver job"
Mark is quite adamant that he will sort out money for Ricky to go to university;  he has got an interview for the taxi driver job.   Ricky yet again says that he is not going to university.
Sara checks some t-shirts
At Awyr Iach, Sara is checking some garments, and DJ asks if he can finish early, as he needs to go into town.   She says it will not be possible, as she is helping Kelly to give the café a makeover, and someone needs to be at Awyr Iach when the courier turns up.
"I'm cooking for Non, and need ingredients"
He explains, “I’m cooking for Non, and I need ingredients – the village shop doesn’t have anything – I just want everything to be just right.”   Sara’s answer remains the same.
Sioned arrives, promoting Cae Glas
Sioned comes in, wanting to leave some flyers;  she says that they are working on a new organic produce line.
"Perhaps you could help DJ, then"
Sara suggests she could help DJ, as he is looking for ingredients,
"Shallots, garlic and a bit of salad"
and he lists shallots, garlic and a bit of salad;  she is sure that she can give him a good deal.
Mark at his interview
In the Deri flat, Mark is attending his interview;  “Right then, Mr Jones, can you tell me a bit about your current job?”
"I go round with the post – but you know that already"
He replies that he goes around with the post, and that she already knows that as she sees him every day.
"Why do you think you have the skills to be a taxi driver?"
“Why do you think you have the skills to be a taxi driver?” is the next question,
"Because I can drive!"
and he replies with a smile that he can drive.   Then he adds that is good with people and has a clean licence.
"But you also have a record"
“But you also have a record,” she says,
"And so do you!"
but he is quick to point out that she also has one;  he admits that he has done some stupid things in the past, like her, but he needs the money to send Ricky to university.
"That means I'll be reliable"
“That means I’ll be reliable – surely you can understand that,” he adds.
"Retro, with comfy sofas"
Kelly informs Sara, “I have big plans for this place – I want it to be retro, with comfy sofas and cushions – you know.”
Sara suggests that she is considering changing the décor, perhaps she could change the menu, but Kelly is having problems with suppliers;  “What about Cae Glas?” Sara asks.
"Slight problem – I hate Sioned!"
Kelly points out there is a slight problem there;  “I hate Sioned!”
Sara stresses that it is Eileen’s business,
Ed is prepared for his interview . . .
and then Ed comes downstairs, looking very smart, and says he is quietly confident,
. . . and hopes Britt is in a better mood
providing Britt is in a better mood.
Ricky is delegated to make them another coffee
When Ricky comes into the café, he is told to help himself, as Kelly is discussing important business, and Sara would like him to bring them another cup of coffee.
In the Deri, Ed is surprised to see that Mark is the other candidate;
"There are two more candidates, Mr Jones"
Britt tells Mark that there are two more candidates, and that she will be in touch later.
Ed is surprised there is another applicant . . .
Ed was under the impression there were only the two contenders, but then the third, a last minute application, walks in,
. . . and then she arrives
in the form of Kath Jones, and Britt decides to interview her before Ed;
Ed is rather disgruntled
he is not exactly pleased about this.
Sara and Kelly discuss the colour scheme
Sara and Kelly agree on the choice of colour for the café, and Ricky enquires if they happen to have a job going there;  “I’m not going to university now – I can help with the makeover.”
Non is keeping a low profile
Non walks in, looking very self-conscious, and is asked by Sara if she is looking forward to the big date tonight;
"DJ said he wanted everything to be perfect"
“DJ said that he wants everything to be perfect.”   Non wails that it is not going to be that perfect, as she has a massive spot.
"Come on, show Auntie Kelly"
“Come on, show Auntie Kelly,” she is told,
Ricky finds himself temporarily in charge of the café
then Ricky is detailed to hold the fort, as they have work to do upstairs.
"The fact is, I'm a good driver, Ms Monk"
At her interview, Kath says, “The fact is, I’m a good driver, Ms Monk –listen, I’m the one who taught Mark to drive –
She casts aspersions about Mark
“and that wasn’t easy, I can tell you.   I am a bit worried about Mark, because he hasn’t had much luck with his health.   Anyway, I’m much more experienced –
"I used to do the same job years ago"
“look, I used to do the same job years ago – you don’t remember that, do you?
“If you give the job to Ed, you’ll have to find someone for the chip shop – I’m only thinking of your customers.   Ed used to drive those escorts around, didn’t he?
"I've got nothing against Ed, mind"
“Do you think Garry would want someone like that, giving the company a bad name?   I’ve got nothing against Ed, but, you know, just saying.”
Non has undergone a major makeover . . .
In the café flat, Kelly and Sara have been busy, and announce that Non is as good as new;  she cannot believe it.
. . . and is given a frilly blouse
Kelly brings her a frilly blouse and invites her to try it on.
"What if Ed finds out I'm fraternising with the enemy?"
Sara tells Kelly she has sent Cae Glas a message, saying that she is interested in their vegetables;  “What if Ed finds out I’m fraternising with the enemy?” demands Kelly, but Sara assures her that Ed wants the café to succeed.
"I don't know about this"
Non is not sure about the blouse, but is told she should take off her glasses;  she protests that she would not be able to see.
They look very appetising potatoes
At Penrhewl, Sioned weighs out some large organic potatoes,
"You can have it all for a fiver – mates' rates"
and tells DJ that he can have everything for a fiver – mates’ rates.
"You're a lifesaver, Sioned!"
He is very grateful, but she doubts if her next customer will be so happy –
"I've got a meeting with Kelly"
she has a meeting with Kelly.   “Non’s a lucky woman!” she tells him.
At last it is Ed's turn
Ed, still waiting by the bar, is at last invited upstairs for his interview, but does not look as confident now.
Ricky is really getting stuck in . . .
Ricky has been working hard in the café,
. . . and is offered a shift tomorrow
and Kelly offers him another shift, starting at nine in the morning;  he is very pleased.
"You contacted us for a few quotes"
Then Sioned walks in;  “You contacted us, asking for a a few quotes,” she says, but Kelly thought she would be meeting Sioned’s mother.   “Look, I know this is awkward,” Sioned continues,
"You had better sit down"
but Kelly invites her to sit down.
"You have been unsuccessful on this occasion"
Mark has received a text, advising that he did not get the taxi driver job, but they will keep his details on file.
"Ed was bound to get the job"
Then his mother walks in, and as Debbie is consoling him, “Ed was bound to get the job – he does have experience,” she points out that Debbie is wrong.
"I got the job!"
“I got the job – I think I gave a fairly good interview, actually,” Kath considers, and Mark is furious.
Mark is not at all happy about this
“Oh yes, I’m thrilled that my mother has stolen a job from me!” he rages, then, when Ricky arrives home,
"Your grandmother stole that taxi job from me!"
Mark tells him, “Your grandmother stole that taxi job from me!   I’m his father – I should pay for him!”
Debbie insists, “It doesn’t matter who drives the blinking taxi, as long as we get money for Ricky.”   He just gives up and walks upstairs.
"We can offer you a discount of 15%"
Sioned explains that they still offer the fresh organic produce, as well as traditional produce, and they can offer Kelly a discount of 15%, plus free delivery for regular orders.
"I'm not sure"
When Kelly expresses reservations,
"20% is my final offer"
Sioned increases the discount to 20%, and Kelly agrees to give her a three month trial.
Ed walks in through the café door, and is rather disconcerted to see Sioned there;
"Please don't be angry, Ed!"
Kelly pleads, “Please don’t be angry, because we’re desperate for a supplier.”
"I can't even get a job driving taxis"
He calmly replies that it is her business, and he cannot even get a job driving taxis.
"I'm going to build a taxi empire!"
She assures him, “Don’t worry – because I’m going to build a café empire here!” but he simply warns her to be careful if she deals with Sioned.
Non is very apprehensive
The new look Non, minus her glasses, looks rather apprehensive,
"You look fab, Non!"
but when Ricky comes in, he says that she looks fab.   She replies that she is not going;  “I can’t – this spot is not the problem –
"I'm the problem!"
“I’m still the same person inside – I’m the problem!   If I went on that date with DJ, he would realise how boring I am.”
"You adore him, and he adores you!"
Ricky emphasises that DJ adores her and she adores him, but she maintains that she does not have anything to offer.   “You have to stop this, OK?” he demands, “There’s still enough time – I will tell him that you’re going to be late.”
"It's all over"
She replies that she has already sent him a text to say that she is not coming and that it is all over.
DJ looks once more at the text . . .
Meanwhile, DJ is on the sofa alone at Bryntirion, as a candle burns on the table;  he looks at his phone,
. . . blows out the candle . . .
then sits at the table and blows out the candle.
. . . and is very despondent
