5 September 2018 (2nd)

Hywel is looking at the cards
Hywel is at home, looking through the cards when there is a knock at the door;
Rhys answers the door
Rhys goes to answer it,
Gaynor brings Esther home
and finds it is Gaynor, with Esther.   She asks how Hywel is,
Hywel is very taciturn
but he is not very forthcoming.   Rhys prompts his father to make a cup of tea,
Rhys amuses Esther
while he plays with Esther.
"She was excited when she heard you were coming back"
“She was excited when she heard you were coming back,” says Gaynor, and Hywel thanks her for looking after Esther.
"How are you really?"
Then she asks, “How are you really?   I’m here if you need me – all right?”
Sofia arrives out of the blue
Sofia arrives unexpectedly at Llwyncelyn and apologises for not phoning, but she happened to be passing;  Elgan looks very pleased to see her, and remarks that the kettle has just boiled.
"Do you still like that Rooibos tea?"
“Do you still like that Rooibos tea?” he asks, adding, “Do you remember when we spent all day looking for some in Cambridge?”
"You brought some back from South Africa"
She remembers that he brought back some of it from the barracks in South Africa, which a doctor had given him.
"He fancied you – and he was not the only one"
“Ah, yes, Peter Schmidt – he fancied you, and he was not the only one,” Elgan says, and they sit down.
"Anita wants us to do a loft conversion"
In APD, Mathew tells Jason that Anita phoned and wants them to do a loft conversion for her, and he agreed.
"We're already up to our eyes in work!"
Jason points out that they are already up to their eyes in work;
"You should have checked with me first!"
“You should have checked with me before making such decisions!   Go and tidy up the yard – and then go to get us some coffee.”
"Anita, can you ring me back, please?"
Jason immediately phones Anita and leaves a message for her to ring him back.
"Teabag tea is good enough for me"
Elgan insists that teabag tea is good enough for him, while Sofia is praising the Rooibos tea;  he is not sure when Gaynor will be back,
"I've brought something to show you"
and Sofia says she has something to show him.
They look at photos from years ago
She has brought some photos of them when they were much younger, but remarks that he has not changed much.
"Not on the outside, perhaps"
“Not on the outside, perhaps,” he begins, but then decides that they do not need to talk about those matters now.
"If you want a chat sometime"
She assures him that she will be around for a while, if he wants a chat sometime.   He looks for an embarrassing photograph of her.
Hywel is not getting involved
Rhys and Esther are still playing, with Hywel merely looking on;  Hywel again thanks Gaynor for all that she has done, then goes to cook some dinner.
"Dad cannot settle, and will not leave the house"
Rhys tells her that his father cannot settle, and refuses to leave the house;  “He still feels that some people think he is guilty.”
"I'd better go now"
Gaynor says that she had better go, as she does not want to cause him any more stress.
She finds him looking preoccupied . . .
Hywel is standing in the kitchen,
. . . and fiddling with a knife and fork
absent-mindedly fiddling with a knife and fork,
"I've got a lot of work to do, Hywel"
when Gaynor informs him that she has to go as she has a lot of work to do.
"Sorry, I was in a world of my own!"
In the café, Kelly is in a world of her own when Mathew comes in to order two coffees to take out;
"Mustn't upset the boss, or he will sulk"
he makes a comment about not upsetting the boss, because he sulks if he does not get his own way.   Then he notices Sara, sitting nearby.
Something gets knocked over
Kelly’s phone rings, but she does not want to answer it, because it is her solicitor;  she turns back to the coffee machine and knocks something over.
"Look what you've made me do now!"
“Look what you’ve made me do now!” she screams, and bursts into tears.
Sara decides that Mathew should leave
Sara takes command of the situation, shepherds Mathew, the only other customer, out of the café,
"You must think I'm a real drama queen!"
and Kelly tells her, “You must think I’m a real drama queen!”
"I know things haven't been easy"
Sara appreciates that things have not been easy for her,
"I've had a major wobble this time!"
but Kelly admits, “I’ve had a major wobble this time!   I’m always taking up your time!”   Sara maintains that businesswomen have to stick together, and urges her not to be so hard on herself.   She refuses to leave until Kelly tells her what is the problem.
"It's sorted – I can buy the café!"
“It’s sorted – documents, money – I can buy the café!” Kelly replies, so Sara cannot see what the problem is;
"I was king of hoping it would all fall through"
“I was kind of hoping that it would all fall through, so I could pull out – but now the blinking solicitors want me to transfer the money, and it’s actually happening – and I’m bricking it!”
Sara puts up the 'CLOSED' sign
Sara goes over to the door and changes the sign to ‘CLOSED’;  then she announces that they are going to sort this out.
"I haven't told Gaynor that I contacted you"
Sofia says that Elgan can keep some photos, as she has made copies;  he confesses, “I haven’t told Gaynor that I contacted you, let alone the fact you called in.
"Things haven't been easy here lately"
“Things haven’t been very easy here lately, with everything.”
"I'm home!"
Just as Sofia thinks she should leave, Gaynor arrives home and is surprised to see a stranger there;
Gaynor is introduced to Sofia
Elgan introduces the two of them,
"Why didn't you say anything?"
and Gaynor wonders why he did not say anything.
Sofia takes the blame;  “I just landed here without warning, and Elgan was about to phone you.   You must have had a shock, seeing me.”
"There's some wine in the fridge"
Gaynor says there is a bottle of wine in the fridge,
Elgan whispers his thanks
but Sofia will only have a small one, as she is driving.
"Managing the café was fine"
Up in the café flat, Kelly insists that managing the café was fine;
"Really flippin' massively scary!"
“But owning a café is really flippin’ massively scary!”   Sara points out that she has been running the place for weeks,
"This is a huge leap in the dark!"
but Kelly is adamant, “It’s different – this is a huge leap in the dark!”
Sara assures her that every business involves risk, but she has proved that she can do it;  “Your customers like you and they trust you.   It all comes down to this – if you want to do it, and I think you do,
"You'll find a way of making it work"
“you’ll find a way of making it work.   If you don’t, you’re letting yourself down – and you’ll regret it!   Imagine yourself a year from now if you haven’t bought the café – is that who you want to be?”
"Ed really wants me to do it"
Kelly replies that Ed really wants her to do it, and Sara points out that is because he has faith in her, he knows her,
"He knows how special you are"
and he knows how special she is.
Abject apologies to Anita
Jason is speaking on the phone to Anita;  “I’m very sorry – Mathew shouldn’t have got your hopes up in the first place.   We are terribly busy at the moment – once we’ve got a bit of slack, I’ll let you know immediately, I promise.”
"I had to go to Llanarthur for the coffee"
Mathew returns, without the coffee, and explains that he had to go to Llanarthur;  “When I got there, the place was closed.   Kelly was upset about something and wouldn’t serve me.”
"You should have done some work!"
Jason is seriously unimpressed;  “You should have come back here and done some work, instead of wasting time.   I felt a real fool, having to let Anita down.
"In this business, sorry isn't good enough"
“In this business, sorry isn’t good enough, all right?”
"The therapist thought it was a good idea"
At Llwyncelyn, Elgan admits that he contacted Sofia in the end, which was what the therapist thought would be a good idea.   Sofia is glad that Elgan was persuaded by Gaynor to have therapy.
Gaynor points out that Garry was also responsible,
"You should take Sofia to the Deri"
and suggests that he take Sofia to the Deri;  they all three agree to go.   Elgan remarks, “I’ve been very lucky to have good people around me who understood,” but he feels rather awkward.
Esther does not seem interested in her dinner
Hywel is disappointed that Esther does not want any more dinner;  Rhys will do the washing-up, as it is time for Esther to get ready for bed,
Hywel is hesitant about taking Esther to bed . . .
a task which Hywel is rather reluctant to do,
. . . so Rhys does it instead
so Rhys takes her up instead.
"That Mathew is getting on my nerves!"
Jason arrives home to find that Ifan is asleep, and reports that Mathew is getting on his nerves, trying too hard, but Sara replies that Dai will soon be home.   Jason looks forward to getting rid of Mathew.   Sara sends Jason upstairs to wake Ifan as he will need a feed.
"I've been thinking about what you said . . ."
Kelly calls on Sara;  “I’m sure you weren’t expecting to see me again so soon,” she says, “I’ve been thinking about what you said, and I don’t need to talk to Ed,
". . . and Ive decided – I'm going to do it!"
“because I’ve decided – I’m going to do it!   Thanks for cooling me down and for the advice.   Sorry I was a pain!”
Sara predicts that she is going to be fab, running the café;
"Do you know what's really weird, like?"
Kelly continues, “Do you know what’s really weird, like?   Since I’ve made the decision, lots of things have become obvious.   It will be my café, not Debbie’s, or anyone else’s –
"It's just – like – my café!"
“it’s just – like – my café!”
Sofia takes her leave . . .
Sofia leaves Llwyncelyn and thanks Gaynor for the welcome;  I’m not familiar with the roads around here,” she says, and is invited to call again,
. . . and Gaynor looks rather confused
although Gaynor looks rather confused after she has gone.
"We'll meet again soon"
At the front door, Sofia kisses Elgan and they agreed to meet again soon;
Elgan is likewise confused
he feels that he is in rather a quandary,
"Well, I was not expecting that!"
and Gaynor admits that she was not expecting their visitor.   He apologises for not telling her;
"After what happened to Sheryl . . ."
“I was not intending to contact her, but after what happened to Sheryl, I was reminded of how fragile life is.”
Gaynor reports that Hywel is going to take a while to readjust;
Gaynor is going to take a bath
she is tired and is now going to run a bath.
Elgan looks again at the photographs
He sits down, looks at the photographs and reminisces.
"Esther wanted to see you"
Rhys has got Esther off to sleep, and tells his father that she wanted to see him;  “I told her you were tired.”
"I can't even say goodnight properly"
Hywel is taking down all the cards displayed around the room, saying that he does not deserve them.   He sighs, “I can’t even say goodnight properly to my little girl – I don’t know how I’m going to cope.”
"You have to cope – for Esther's sake!"
Rhys encourages him that he has to cope, if not for himself, then for Esther;
"She asked if Mam could read a story instead"
“Do you know what she said when I told her you weren’t coming up?   She asked if Mam could read her a story instead.”
"I thought she understood"
Hywel replies that he told her, and thought she understood.
"I'll be with you every step of the way!"
“Look, Dad, you’ll get through this – and I’ll be with you every step of the way!”   Hywel says he cannot expect Rhys to give up everything for his sake, but is told that he wants to be there, and cannot leave his father like this.
Hywel breaks down in tears
Hywel cries on his son’s shoulder.
