Garry guides Dani, who has been ordered to keep her eyes closed, out of the Deri, and then tells her she can open them;

she discovers a Volkswagen camper van, and he announces that it is an early birthday present.

"You've bought this for me?" |
“Sorry – you’ve bought this for me?” she gasps, incredulously, and he replies that it is not every day she is 30. He insists that it will be a lot nicer than the B&Bs;

"But you don't want me to go!" |
“But you don’t want me to go!” she points out.
He acknowledges this, but realises she is not going to change her mind and he does not want her to leave without knowing that he supports her.

"It's so cute, Garry!" |
“I understand what you’re doing this,” he says, and she kisses him, exclaiming that it is lush, and so cute.

"You'll get used to it" |
“Don’t worry about driving it – think of it as a big car; the gears and clutch are a bit awkward, but you’ll get used to it,” Garry assures her.

"I don't want to drive it – I want you to drive it!" |
Her face suddenly falls, and she admits, “I don’t want to drive it – because I want you to drive it! I want you to come, Garry!”

He is quite taken aback – and elated – to hear this.

Kath is showing round more paying guests; “This is the lovely state-of-the-art kitchen, but the cupboards there are off limits – the last people I had, they drank all my wine –

As she is showing them the living room,

the front door opens and none other than DJ walks in. Kath asks him what he is doing here, and he replies, “I live here – unlike you! And who are these people?”

They hear there has been 'a bit of a mix-up . . . |
Kath explains to her guests that there has been, “A little bit of a mix-up – don’t worry– I’ll find you somewhere to stay tonight, I promise,”

and she shepherds them out of the door. “I’ll be with you in a minute.”

"You had people staying here?" |
“You’ve had people staying here?” DJ rages at her,

Kath relates her tale of financial woe |
and she tells him the old sob story about money being tight, and Ricky having to go to university.

"You can't use Bryntirion as a hotel!" |
“That doesn’t give you the right to use Bryntirion as a hotel!” he protests, but she insists that she has not let any ‘riff raff’ stay here. “That’s fine then!” he says, “Of course I’ll tell Dai and Diane! I’m going for a shower – you and those people had better be gone when I come back down!”

Kath immediately rings Non, and begins, “Listen, DJ has just come home, and he caught me showing visitors around. He’s bound to tell Dai and Diane, isn’t he? Unless you persuade him not to tell them.”

Non is more concerned about the fact that she looks terrible; “I haven’t washed my hair or anything.” Kath continues that if he tells Dai and Diane, the truth will come out,

and warns her, “Don’t forget who was responsible for the website!

“So less of this nonsense, Non – hurry up!”

The 30th birthday party is abandoned |
Garry goes into the Deri, and announces that he is going with Dani; “She asked me to go with her, and I agreed.”

Britt is angry and tells him he cannot disappear and leave her to look after the pub for three months,

"it will only be a couple of weeks" |
but he insists, “It will only be a couple of weeks, until Dani gets used to the van. Chester will be fine.”

He calls Chester over and apologises for snapping at him the other day, explaining that he was stressed about Dani; “I’m sure you understand, but I bet you’ll enjoy having the flat to yourself – you can have your mates round.”

Britt thinks it more advisable that he comes back to live with them, but Colin does not approve of this.
Garry says he is quite confident that Chester is man enough to look after himself, “But no wild parties!” Chester says that he will stick with telly and takeaways. Garry now has some packing to do,

DJ has had his shower, and is contemplating ringing his father,

He reveals that he ate and drank too much; “It was a floating hotel. You know what Dai and Diane are like – they are arguing like cat and dog one minute, and the next they’re bragging about their status in society.

“But that’s nothing compared to sitting at the captain’s table – totally embarrassing – I was the same colour as the lobster! I needed a break –

In the Deri, Colin tells Tyler that Dani and Garry are busy packing, but they can enjoy the party; Tyler did not want Dani going on her own.

Kath comes in, looking for Garry, but Britt says he is busy and that she is in charge of the pub; “I’ve got some visitors looking for accommodation – can they stay here? “You used to run a B&B here. I don’t want to spoil their holiday.”

Britt replies they will just have to find somewhere else to stay, and also tells her to inform them that food is served at the Deri,

She is extremely relieved to be told that Kelly has transferred the money at last.

Ricky returns from his travels and they welcome him home; “Sorry about the money – I know you don’t have much to spare,” he says.

“You weren’t hurt and you’re home safe – that’s all that matters,” Debbie assures him, and he says he tried not to spend too much after being mugged. Mark is just glad that his friends could lend him the money,

“The thing is – I’ve been thinking, and I’m not going to university,” Ricky informs them;

She tells him she got all his postcards and kept them safe;

Ricky continues, “When I say I’m not going to university, I mean not this year – if I work, I will have less debt. I’ll find something. Loads of people do that.”

Debbie is angry; “After all the hard work, you’re willing to throw it away!” When he emphasises that it is his life, she repeats her allegation that he is throwing it away.

Mark encourages them to stop arguing, and Ricky goes upstairs to unpack.

“This is our fault – if money wasn’t a problem, he’d go!” Debbie wails, and just then Kath returns, and is informed that Ricky is not going to university – this year.

Kath does not think that the day could get any worse; “DJ came home early, and caught me showing visitors around. I’ve been looking for a place for them – and had to go to the Bull in Llanarthur. DJ is trying to persuade DJ to keep quiet – if she fails, Diane will kill me!”

DJ is telling Non about his favourite places on the cruise, and says that he missed her;

maintaining that she really likes him, but they have to take it slowly. Then she suddenly remembers that Ricky has come home, and she forgot all about him; they are supposed to be having a celebration.
“Look – about Kath – Dai and Diane don’t need to find out, do they?” she pleads,

but he demands one good reason why he should not tell them.

“Because I’m asking?” she answers, and he agrees to keep quiet,

He stipulates one condition . . . |
but on one condition – that they go out on a date next week. She nods her head, and hurries off.

Chester is sitting on the sofa in the Deri flat when Garry informs him that they are leaving in a minute.

“I thought I could trust you – but you’re like all the others,” Chester laments, and Garry can understand that he is disappointed,

but if he were Chester’s age, we would love to have this place to himself.

“But I won’t have it to myself – Mam will be sniffing around,” is the reply; Garry points out that she will be looking after the Deri, not him. “As if Mam’s not going to hassle me while you’re away. I haven’t got any friends to invite over.”

“Your mother doesn’t understand why you’re angry with everyone,” Garry informs him, “But I think the person you’re most angry with is yourself. See you.”

Garry leaves the flat, while Chester is almost in tears.
As Non walks in through the back door of Maes-y-Deri, the first thing that she is asked is, “Will DJ keep quiet?”

and Debbie is in a foul mood, although admitting that the café has finally been sold.

Upstairs in the Deri flat, Chester is becoming more and more wound up and furious.
