5 September 2018 (1st)

Gwyneth has a permanent grin
Gwyneth is still looking very pleased with herself;  when she sees Julie, she picks up a bunch of flowers from outside the the shop.
"I'm on my way to the cemetery"
Julie comes out, also with flowers, and is on her way to the cemetery.   “I’m thinking about going up there later,” Gwyneth tells her, “I wanted to thank her for leaving me the salon.”   Julie mentions that pink was Sheryl’s favourite colour,
Gwyneth soon replaces the flowers
but when she is out of sight, the flowers are put back.
Rhys discovers his father by the river
Rhys is walking in a wood and discovers his father, leaning against a tree by the water, deep in thought.   “I had an idea where you’d be,” Rhys tells him,
"We used to come fishing for hours"
“We used to come down here, didn’t we?   Fishing for hours.
"I wanted to see you"
“I know you said you wanted to be alone, but I wanted to see you.”
"I don't want to see anyone"
Hywel still maintains he does not want to see anyone.
Eifion and Jim look for stock at the market
Eifion and Jim are at the livestock market, where they are looking at the sheep;
"Now these are the ones you should buy"
Eifion recommends the batch the farm should buy, as he can see they have potential, and Jim will save a lot of money.
"I'm going to make a big show of bidding for the others!"
“I’m going to make a big show of bidding for the others first, in case they notice which ones I really want.   The other bidders will have to pay more than they want to.
"If you can bring a pudding tonight, that will be a help"
In the café, Anita asks Kelly if she can bring a pudding tonight, as that will be a great help.   Siôn comes in as she is leaving,
Anita pointedly ignores Siôn
but Anita totally ignores him, and he tells Kelly that Anita has not forgiven him for taking Julie’s side at the wake;
"You're in the doghouse, Siôn!"
Kelly agrees, “You’re in the doghouse!   Are you coming to the meal tonight?”   Siôn says that he has not been invited.
"They drank all the wine!"
Kath moans to Debbie that last night’s visitors to Bryntirion have drunk all the wine there;
"Some people have no idea how to behave!"
“Some people have no idea how to behave!”   Debbie dissuades her from ringing them to complain, stressing that they might leave a bad review.
"All you have to do is transfer the money!"
Debbie goes into the kitchen to tell Kelly that her solicitor has said that the paperwork for the café is ready at last;  “All you have to do is transfer the money!”
"Another couple of days won't make any difference"
but Kelly is of the opinion that another couple of days will not make any difference.   Debbie is concerned;  “You do have the money, don’t you?”
“Of course I do,” Kelly replies,
"You can't pull out now!"
and Debbie wails that she cannot pull out now.
"You can't force me to buy the café"
“You can’t force me to buy the café,” snaps Kelly.
"I just couldn't face people"
Walking through the wood, Hywel admits that he could not face people and did not want to be at the ‘welcome home’ party.   Rhys stresses that he is not angry, but just wants to understand.
"I had a feeling of emptiness"
They stand on a bridge over the river, and Hywel says, “When I was in prison, all I wanted was to be free – but when I was released, I had a feeling of emptiness – I realised I needed more time to say goodbye to Sheryl properly.
"My head was all over the place"
“My head was all over the place – and it still is.”
Rhys produces a pile of letters for his father,
"This is from Gethin"
and in the process of looking through them Hywel finds that one is from Gethin.   “I didn’t know,” apologises Rhys, “Open the others first,”
Hywel rips it open
but his father is determined, and rips it open.
"I wanted you to suffer like I did!"
He reads, “I killed Sheryl and I planted the evidence – I did it all.   You were innocent, Hywel, and I wanted you to suffer like I did – everyone turning against me and hating me.   I wanted you to suffer like I have!”
"He's saying it was my fault!"
He turns to Rhys and exclaims, “He’s saying it was my fault – that I did not let her go and find happiness.”   Hywel admits that he did want her to suffer, but Rhys reminds him that he did not want Sheryl to die.
"Maybe he's right, and I deserve to suffer"
“No, but maybe Gethin’s right, and I deserve to suffer,” Hywel replies, “I’ve hurt so many women over the years – you don’t know all the things I’ve done!”
"I hope you don't think I'm taking advantage"
In the salon, Gwyneth continues her mock apologies;  “I hope you don’t think I’m taking advantage, but I’d like to take over the business straightaway –
"I don't want the place to be closed for weeks"
“I can’t see any advantage in the place being closed for weeks,” and naïvely, Julie agrees that it will always be ‘J&S’ to her and is sure this is what Sheryl would want,
Julie is very easily deceived
so she gullibly hands over the salon keys.
"Everyone does things they regret"
As they walk through the woods, Rhys reminds his father that everyone does things they regret;
"Well, I've lost count!"
Hywel replies, “Well, I’ve lost count – Stacey, Ffion, Gaynor, your mother.   Do you know what?   There’s hardly any difference between Gethin and me.”
"Come on – we're going home!"
Rhys insists that he is not being fair on himself, and instructs his father that they are going home now.
“I can’t call it home now, can I?” replies Hywel,
"Your daughter is missing you"
but Rhys informs him that his daughter is missing him, nor is it fair to expect Gaynor to look after her;  he stresses that looking after Esther is his job, as her Dad.
"I can't help what I feel"
Hywel answers that he cannot help what he feels.
“I packed up all Sheryl’s stuff, as I knew you wouldn’t want to do it.    “Please, Dad, just come home,” says Rhys and walks away.
Hywel goes with Rhys
Hywel finally turns round to follow him.
They have bought the sheep for a good price
Jim and Eifion are still at the livestock market, very pleased with their purchase;
"How long have you and Ffion been such friends?"
Jim asks how long Eifion and Ffion have been such friends;  “You get around!” he laughs.
Eileen is on the phone
Then he receives a phone call;  Eileen is wondering whether Eifion fancies joining them for dinner,
Eifion does not look very keen
and Eifion reluctantly accepts the invitation.
"How is the café going, Kelly?"
At teatime in number 10, Anita enquires how the café is going;  Kelly replies, “I was hoping you would have come to your senses by now and asked Siôn to come over.
"You were well out of order at the funeral"
“You were well out of order at the funeral,” but Anita does not want to talk about it.
"I'm thinking about a loft conversion"
Instead, she tells them she is thinking about a loft conversion, and Kelly exclaims, “I think you should stop being so childish and make up with Siôn!”
"She does have a point"
Ed admits that Kelly does have a point, and suggests that they will do the washing-up after the meal, while she goes over to talk to Siôn.   Kelly agrees that he would really like to see her,
"He should not have taken Julie's side!"
but Anita protests that he should not have taken Julie’s side;  Kelly replies that she should not have been so tactless.
"How about taking him a slice of cake?"
Ed further suggests she should take Siôn a slice of the cake they are eating, but Anita remains stony-faced.
They are enjoying their meal at Penrhewl
The meal at Penrhewl is going well, and Eifion compliments Eileen on her food;
"Better than your meals for one"
Sioned remarks that it is better than his meals for one.
"Soon be up to your ears in dirty nappies!"
Eifion predicts that Eileen will be up to her ears in dirty nappies before long, but she is looking forward to a farmhouse full of a baby’s crying and laughter.
"It musy be strange for you to be back here"
She appreciates that it must be strange for him to be back at Penrhewl;  he says he has not spoken to Cadno much, but she and the boys are OK.
“Well, he might not be single for long,” quips Jim;  Sioned and Eileen are eager to find out who is involved,
Eifion denies any such relationship
but Eifion denies any such thing, and looks uneasy.
Siôn has a surprise visitor
At Y Felin, Siôn is surprised when Anita calls, and tells him that Kelly brought them a cake for pudding tonight, and there were some leftovers;
"I don't like food going to waste"
she does not like food going to waste.   Siôn is very grateful,
Then she reveals the true reason for her visit
and Anita hesitantly says, “You know why I’m here – I’ve come to say that I’m sorry about last week.”
"I've been waiting for you to say that"
He has been waiting for her to say it, and readily agrees that they are friends again.
She suggests that they open a bottle, but he does not want to do so tonight,
"I'll text you"
so she leaves again, and he promises to text her.
Rhys and Hywel arrive back in the village, and as they get back to the house,
Julie sees a reflection in the window
Julie, outside the salon, sees Hywel’s reflection in the window and calls to him;
"Gethin managed to fool us all"
she wants to tell him that she is sorry for everything, and that no-one deserves to be wrongly accused.   “Gethin managed to fool us all,” she says,
Hywel agrees that he is very proud of Rhys
“you should be very proud of your son.”
He looks at the 'welcome home' banner
Hywel looks up at the ‘welcome home’ banner on the house, and Rhys explains that he invited people over to welcome his father home.   Hywel apologises for the way he has behaved,
"Come into the house. Dad"
but the reply is that he should forget about it, and come into the house.
"The place was empty when Sheryl moved out"
He steps gingerly inside, and remarks, “The place was empty when Sheryl moved out –
"It's so quiet"
“it’s even emptier now – quiet.”   Rhys assures him that it will not be so for long – Esther will make sure of that.   “But Esther will not bring Sheryl back, will she?” Hywel points out.
“Why don’t you phone Gaynor, so that she can bring Esther home?” asks Rhys,
"I'll do it in the morning"
and Hywel says he will do that tomorrow morning.
As they return to the café flat, Kelly and Ed see Gwyneth;
"We live opposite each other again!"
“We live opposite each other again,” she smiles, “That’s nice, isn’t it?”
"Oh – exactly what we needed!"
Kelly tells Ed that is exactly what they needed.
"Remind me not to listen!"
Then an angry voice behind them announces, “Next time you give me advice, remind me not to listen!”   Anita storms off and when Kelly sees Debbie approaching, she tries to hide in the café.
"Have you transferred the money yet?"
“First you ignore me, and now you’re trying to run away!” Debbie moans, “Have you transferred the money yet?   I expect it in the bank by the end of the week, OK?”
"I'm having serious doubts
Kelly informs her that she is having serious doubts, and that until the sale goes through, she can do what she likes.
"Why does it feel more like a nightmare?"
She confides to Ed that she is out of her depth and is really confused.  When he urges her not to give up her dream, she replies, “Why does it feel more like a nightmare?”
"You can sell that stuff from the salon"
Julie is ready to leave the village;  she suggests to Kath she could sell the things she got from the salon, as there must be £200-worth there.
Kath will arrange to sell it online
Julie says she has a few bottles, and Kath can keep the rest;
"I could never have coped without you"
“I could never have coped without you,” she maintains, and goes outside, where her taxi is waiting.
"It's strange without Julie here"
Debbie comes home and Kath tells her it is strange without Julie there,  then is told, “Kelly threatened not to buy the café.”   Kath dismisses it as Kelly just having a ‘wobbly’,
"I shall have to start looking for another buyer!"
but Debbie is concerned she will have to start looking for another buyer.
"It'll be over for all of us!"
“If Kelly pulls out, it’ll be over for me – it’ll be over for all of us!” she predicts.
