Ffion looks at Eifion's victim
Ffion is looking on her phone at a photo of the man who Eifion assaulted;
"It's not a good morning for this poor bloke!"
“It’s not a good morning for this poor bloke!” she comments, but Eifion insists that he deserved that punch.
“Sometimes you have to strike back!” he says, but Ffion replies that fighting is not the answer.
"What's happened to my life?"
“What’s happened to my life?” he sighs, and she asks if he wants to accompany her to the pop-up evening in the café;
"Gaynor has pulled out"
Ffion was going with Gaynor, but she has pulled out.
Eifion is not very keen to go
Eifion reluctantly agrees to go.
Kelly gives Ed his orders
The preparations for the pop-up evening are going well;  “So, we’re making the starters up here, then the mains and desserts in the kitchen,” Kelly tells Ed,
"Failing to prepare is preparing to fail!"
“Failing to prepare is preparing to fail!”   She warns Ed not to let anyone get drunk, as they do not want another drink-driving scandal, like Jason.
He points out that they need to get people to drink, as that is where the profit comes from,
"We're getting info and expertise"
but she is adamant that they are getting something more valuable – info and expertise.
Debbie does not like her lunch break being curtailed
In the salon, Debbie is informed that her lunchbreak will have to be shortened, as a lot of clients want their appointments at lunchtime.   Then Gwyneth decides she wants a coffee and sends Debbie to the café.
"You're lucky I employ you at all!"
When Debbie objects, she is told, “You’re lucky I employ you at all, after the scandal in your last job!   I appreciate your work, but I want value for money.”
Sioned and Eileen make last-minute checks
At Penrhewl, Sioned and her mother are preparing the food for the pop-up evening;
"Is Jim here?"
Eifion arrives, asking if Jim is there, and when he is told that he is at the market,
"I might as well go there as well"
Eifion decides that he might as well go there too.   Sioned tells him about the pop-up evening, to promote Cae Glas’s produce, and he says that he will be there with Ffion.
"He's mad, daring to go to that market!"
As soon as he is gone, Eileen remarks, “He’s mad, daring to go to that market, after last time.”   She hopes that the event goes well tonight,
"I don't want it to be a flop"
as she does not want it to be a flop;  Sioned is sure that everyone will love her cooking.
Debbie dutifully put her tip in the jar
Debbie is given a £5 tip by a client, which she dutifully puts in the jar;  “We’ll share them out at the end of the week,” Gwyneth tells her.
Debbie sees Kelly across the road
Then Debbie sees Kelly putting out an advertising sign,
"How can she afford to charge £15 for three courses?"
and wonders, “How can she afford to charge £15 for three courses – I used to play it safe.”
"Have a break – but only for 15 minutes . . ."
Gwyneth tells her she has worked hard this morning, and says she should go out for some fresh air, and to recharge her batteries, but only for 15 minutes..
She asks if Debbie will get her a sandwich from the café;
". . . and get me a sandwich"
“Hummus and salad on granary.”

That £5 will not be included in the share-out
As soon as she has gone, Gwyneth retrieves the £5 note from the tips jar, and puts it in her pocket.
Jim is disturbed by the arrival of Eifion . . .
Jim is looking critically at the stock in the market when he is joined by Eifion, but is not keen on talking to him.   “I wouldn’t put in an offer for these – their weight is too low for the price,” Eifion advises,
.. . and walks away
but Jim walks away.
"Friends turning their backs, are they?"
An older, white-haired man comes over to speak with Eifion;  “Friends turning their backs, are they?
"I saw what happened last week"
“I saw what happened here last week – you have a lot of backbone, coming back here, after the way you were treated.”
"I can't see that it is any of your business"
Eifion cannot see that it is any of his business, but he continues, “I wanted to say that not all farmers are narrow-minded.”
"Everyone thinks they know everyone else's business"
Eifion replies that what he hates about the countryside is that everyone knows everyone else’s business – or they think they do.   The man is about to look at some cattle, and get a cup of coffee;  he asks if Eifion wants one.
"Free glass of wine with every ticket"
“So, £2 for a raffle ticket, and a free glass of wine with every ticket,” says Ed,
The Cae Glas contingent arrive at the café
and then Eileen and Sioned come in, laden down.   Sioned points out that they have to look after Cae Glas’s brand –
"It's a matter of quality control"
it is a matter of quality control.
"Control freak, more like!"
Kelly comments to Ricky, “Control freak, more like!” then, as she answers the phone,
"No, it's not for me – it's Gwyneth!"
Debbie comes in for the sandwich, informing Ricky that it is not for her, but for Gwyneth.
"We're fully booked, Ricky!"
The phone call has pleased Kelly, as now the evening is fully booked;
"You know – too many cooks, and all that"
Debbie says that she can help out if necessary, but Kelly assures her they have enough staff.
He brings Eifion's coffee . . .
The man returns with two cups of coffee, and reports that a father and son from Aberaeron took the cattle he wanted.
. . . and Eifion enquires what he meant earlier
“You mentioned earlier about friends turning their backs,” Eifion begins,
"It sounded as if you were talking from experience"
“It sounded as if you were talking from experience.”
"I used to have a friend who was gay"
The man begins, “I used to have a friend who was gay – his nerves were shot.   He was worried that people would find out about him – he stopped going out because he was so scared.   The countryside can be so narrow-minded and a lonely place.
"They found him in one of the sheds – with a 12-bore!"
“I tried to be supportive, but that wasn’t enough – they found him in one of the sheds, with a 12-bore shotgun at his side.   I lost a good friend – I should have been more supportive.
"You don't have to hide and be afraid"
“You don’t have to hide and be afraid.”
We learn that his name is David Ellis
Jim passes by, and is introduced to the man, whose name is David Ellis.   Eifion wishes him goodbye,
Jim keeps his distance from Eifion
and notices Jim, looking askance at him.
Meringues are not supposed to be that colour
Sioned reports that there has been a crisis – the meringues are burnt,
"Mam is blaming your oven!"
and Eileen is blaming the oven, which she says is too hot.   Kelly insists that she should have been watching them;
"She wasn't watching them – or they wouldn't have been cremated!"
“Obviously she wasn’t – or they wouldn’t have been cremated!”
"Quiet!   People are arriving downstairs"
Ed informs them that people are starting to arrive downstairs,
"What are we gong to do?"
and Kelly is in a panic, demanding what they are going to do, but Ricky has an idea.
Ricky will do his best to save the day
“Did you make the blackberry coulis?” he asks Sioned, and when she replies in the negative, he tells her to leave it to him, and rushes down to the kitchen.
"Cae Glas wild mushroom risotto"
They begin serving the starters to the guests, who include Ffion;  “Cae Glas wild mushroom risotto,” says Sioned.
"Eifion is on his way"
Ffion tells them that Eifion is on his way, so Sioned will keep it warm for him, and informs Kelly that nothing is a problem, where customers are concerned;
Kelly picks up helpful hints from Sioned
“If you smile, the tips will be better.”
Mark can see that Debbie is in a bad mood
At Maes-y-Deri, Debbie is not in a good mood, and when Mark offers to cook dinner for her, she will not let him.   He asks what is the matter,
"There was so much fun going on in the café"
and she admits, “I went to the café earlier – there was so much fun going on there – a real buzz!
"I never tried to do anything different"
“All the time I owned it, I never took a risk – I never tried to do something different – the greatest risk I took was to change the menus.   All those years running the place, and what have I got to show for it?   Nothing!”
"The blackberries came from Penrhewl"
Following Sioned’s lead, Kelly describes Ricky’s crumble as organic and local;  “The blackberries came from Penrhewl,”
"You mean from Cae Glas!"
but Sioned corrects her, pointing out that they are Cae Glas blackberries, which makes Kelly grimace.
"You've made yourself some new customers tonight"
Ffion thinks she has made herself a lot of new customers tonight, and Kelly says that it is a nice change from serving bacon butties.
“Have you thought of offering a delivery service?” asks Ffion, “I’m sure it would be popular,”
"That's a brilliant idea, Ffi!"
and Kelly hails it as a brilliant idea.   She addresses the assembled customers and thanks them for coming;
"Eileen, the chef, is given a round of applause
she is indebted to Eileen, the chef.
Sioned invites them all to put their names on the Cae Glas mailing list,
"We can keep in touch with our customers"
and explains to Kelly that it enables them to keep in touch with their customers.   Eileen is very grateful to Ricky for saving the day,
Ricky takes the leftover crumble home
and tells him to take the leftover crumble home with him.   Kelly gives him a bonus;  “For working your guts out!”
But then Gwyneth arrives
Then trouble arrives, in the shape of Gwyneth, who asks if there is anything left, but is told that it is all gone.   The next arrival is Eifion, who is obviously the worse for wear, and he slumps down opposite Ffion.
Eifion is refused alcohol . . .
Ed does not think that serving him with a drink is a good idea,
. . . and Kelly explains why
and Kelly spells out rule number one;  “No drunks are admitted to the premises!”   She goes on to admonish him for being so late;  “Ffion has been waiting for you all night!”
"You're not on a date, are you?"
Gwyneth assumes that they are on a date, and asks Eifion, “Aren’t you supposed to be gay?”
"Are you gay – or just confused?"
Ffion helps him to his feet, as Gwyneth continues, “Or are you just confused?
"I'm bi, and I don't have a problem with it"
“I’m bi, and I don’t have a problem with it.”
"I'm nothing like you!"
He insists that he is nothing like her, and whatever he does is no business of hers;  she comments, “Everyone knows what you’re doing!”
"I got a bonus and everything!"
Ricky arrives home to find the others in front of the television;  “It went great – I got a bonus and everything!” he tells them,
He produces his occasion-saving crumble
“And I made this crumble, too – the meringues were burnt, so I made that instead.”
Debbie realises that she was wrong when she said she had nothing to show after running the café;
"I'm proud of you, Rick!"
“I’m proud of you!   Go and warm it up, Rick.”
Ffion has managed to get him up to the flat
Eifion collapses on to the sofa at Cysgod y Glyn;  he apologises to Ffion for being late – and drunk,
"I've done much worse in the past"
but she points out that she has done much worse in the past.
"I'm never coming back!"
He lurches to his feet, picks up his bag and maintains that he is leaving Cwmderi;  “I’m never coming back!”
"I don't want to be here!"
She accuses him of running away, but he explains that he does not want to be here, where everyone is talking about him.
"I know what it's like – but it will pass"
“I know what it’s like to have everyone talking about me,” she agrees, “But it will pass.”
He is convinced that it will not change people’s feelings, but she replies,
"You can't cope with the fact you're gay"
“You want to leave because you can’t cope with the fact that you’re gay – but there are people here who will support you and accept you.”
"I am not gay!"
“You’re just like everyone else – you think you know, and want to put a label on everyone – I am not gay!” he rants.   He then admits that he does appreciate that she is not really like everyone else – at least she is here.
He does not look in a fit state to go anywhere
She begs him not to go anywhere tonight, and he subsides on to the sofa once more;  she makes him a coffee.
"All this cash – it's obscene, Ed!"
Kelly is counting the takings;  “Look at this cash, Ed, it’s obscene!” she squeals, “And I made a copy of Cae Glas’s mailing list – and picked up loads of catering tips.”
"Does that include how to burn meringues?"
He wonders if that includes how to burn meringues.
"A delivery service – it's a no-brainer!"
“I also love the idea of offering a delivery service – it’s a no-brainer!   I make the sandwiches, and you deliver – you’re an experienced taxi driver – but we’ll need a van.”
Ed advises her that they should get over tonight first, but she is adamant, “Strike while the iron’s hot!   We can push forward – I’m so excited!
"Yes, Kellyl   I can see you're excited!"
“Are you up for it?   Nothing ventured, nothing gained – tomorrow we’ll look for a van online.”
Ed kisses Kelly
Ed kisses her.
"A fresh start somewhere else"
Eifion concedes, “Right, I won’t leave tonight – but I really am leaving.   A fresh start somewhere else – somewhere I can be myself, the old Eifion, before everyone found out.   I can’t do it here – everyone thinks I’m gay, and they’re laughing at me.”
"You are gay"
Ffion points out that he is gay, but again he denies it;
"I don't want a relationship with one"
“All right, perhaps I have slept with men, but I don’t want a relationship with one.   I don’t want to be like Iolo and Tyler – I don’t want to live in a fluffy pink world, with roses round the door!”
"What do you want, then?"
Smiling, Ffion asks him what he does want;  “To be myself – do what want I used to do, what I needed to do – to be Eifion the father, the happy farmer – nothing more than that.”
"And what about Cadno?"
“And what about Cadno?” she asks, and he maintains that what he was doing did not affect her.   “And what about the boys?”
"They don't need me any more"
He admits that they were his world, but they do not need him any more.   She protests that of course they need him, but he sees himself as the bloke who is always being ridiculed.
“Have you thought of the effect on them if their father disappeared?” she demands,
"You're being nice to me again"
and he remarks that she is being nice to him again;  he wonders why.   “Because I like you,” is the answer, and he moves forward to kiss her.
"This is not what you want, Eifion!"
Ffion is not having that;  “This is not what you want!” she admonishes him, “Look, I think the world of you, but . . .”
Again he decides to leave
He gets up, zips up his bag, and does not know where he is going;
"No-one will miss me!"
“No-one will miss me!” he says, but she protests that she will – and the boys – and all his other friends.
"You can stay here as long as you want"
“I don’t know what to do,” he sobs, so she tells him to do anything, and that he can stay there for as long as he wants.
Ffion gives him a hug
She gives him a hug.
