DJ suffers from consumption of alcohol |
DJ is lying on the sofa at Maes-y-Deri, suffering from the after-effects of last night’s alcohol; he complains that he had to down shots with Debbie at the end of the night.
"It was a good night, wasn't it?" |
Non comments that it was a good night, and DJ does remember the important thing – that she agreed to marry him.
“Diane will be chuffed that I’m marrying a teacher – well, a future teacher,” he muses, “And Dad.”
"I won't be coming with you, Jason" |
Jason is ready to go to court, but Sara announces that she will not be going with him, with the excuse that she has too much to do today.
"Mam is coming with me" |
His mother will be going with him, so he just leaves the house.
"A string of pearls won't make any difference!" |
Diane is making herself look smart for the court hearing, but Dai scoffs, “A string of pearls won’t make any difference in court, believe me! That clown Jason got us into this pickle in the first place!”
"And you look terrible!" |
Then he turns to DJ and tells him that he looks terrible; “We were celebrating last night,” DJ begins, but Dai moans that there is nothing to celebrate, with APD being one driver short. Diane protests that he will still be able to work,
"It was the birthday of one of the boys" |
and when asked, DJ says that it was the birthday of one of the boys – Frank.
"Get me a tea with three sugars!" |
Dai demands a cup of tea with three sugars from DJ, but Diane countermands this order, pointing out that he is only allowed sweeteners, and then leaves to collect Jason.
Not the sort of reception he envisaged |
DJ looks thoroughly downhearted.
"All right – I'll tidy up later" |
Sioned calls on Mathew in the shop flat and says that her mother would go mad if she saw all this mess; he promises to tidy up later. “Look, I just wanted to give you a heads up – I heard Mam and Jim talking last week.
"They're going to increase the rent" |
“They’re going to increase the rent on this place – they’re thinking about money because of the baby. I just thought you should know – I wouldn’t blame you if you moved out – there are plenty of cheaper places around here.”
Mathew is disappointed about this |
Mathew likes being there as it is convenient – close to work and the Deri; “I’m sure I can find someone to share the rent with me,” he says,
"Good luck with that!" |
and Sioned rather cynically wishes him good luck with that.
DJ is still off his food |
At the Deri, DJ does not feel like facing any food; he suggests to Non that they could tell Dai and Diane later, explaining that they were stressed about Jason this morning.
"That's a great idea!" |
Non is all in favour of that; he adds, “And I’m going to ask Dad to be my best man – what do you think?” She agrees that it is a lovely idea,
"Perhaps I can face a bit of toast" |
and he perks up somewhat, thinking he will eat some toast.
"I heard you overdid it yesterday" |
At the other end of the bar, Mathew discovers Eifion, who is drinking again; “I heard that you overdid it yesterday,” he comments, “You don’t want people to talk.” Eifion reminds him that it is a bit late for that,
"Ffion has chucked me out!" |
and now he has nothing to lose anyway, as even Ffion has chucked him out.
Mathew is confident that she will change her mind, but is told that will not happen; “Could I stay with you in the flat for a few days?” Eifion enquires, “Just until I sort myself out.”
"Eileen would not like that!" |
Mathew points out that Eileen would not not be in favour of that.
“Some cousin you are! I don’t need your help – get lost!” Eifion snarls.
"Listen – I'm moving out" |
In the kitchen at Penrhewl, Sioned tells her mother she has been to the village; “Listen, there’s something I have to say – I’m moving out.
"I'm going to live with Mathew" |
“I’m 25 – I want some freedom, so I’m moving to the shop to live with Mathew.”
"Because I asked you to help with the baby?" |
Eileen assumes this is because she was asked to help with the baby, but Sioned says she has been thinking about it for a few weeks; “It makes sense that I move in with Mathew,” and Eileen suspects there is something going on between them.
"No – I've had enough of men!" |
With a grimace, Sioned declares that she has had enough of men, after everything that has happened; “I just like the idea of living with someone my own age – and Mathew is keen on the idea too.”
“I’d like you to stay here with us,” her mother informs her,
"I'm free to move out when I like" |
but Sioned points out that she is free to move out whenever she likes.
"I can stop you moving into the shop!" |
“No, I can’t stop you from moving out, but I can stop you from moving into the shop!” Eileen states.
Tyler is feeling sorry for Eifion |
Tyler comments to Iolo that Ffion must be fed up with Eifion continually getting drunk; “Perhaps we should invite him over,” but Mathew advises against this, as he is in a foul temper.
"Yes, OK, why not?" |
Nevertheless, Tyler goes to talk to him, and he accepts the invitation to join them.
He is introduced to Jack . . . |
Iolo introduces him to their friend Jack, from Cardiff;
. . . and assumes he is being set up |
Eifion responds, “I’m not interested, boys – you’re obviously trying to set me up! Not everybody wants to play happy families!” Even when Tyler emphasises that Jack is not gay, Eifion is no less angry,
"See what we have to put up with!" |
and tells them to stuff their plans.
Jason gives them the bad news |
In the café, Jason has just returned from court, and informs Dai that, as expected, he was banned for a year. Dai snorts, “A builder without his tools!”
"Don't be so hard on the boy, Dai!" |
Diane instructs him not to be so hard on the boy, as Jason can still work;
"Driving is pretty crucial to a builder!" |
“Apart from the driving, which is pretty crucial to a builder who travels round the county!” moans Dai,
"Perhaps we should get him a personal chauffeur!" |
“Perhaps we should get him a personal chauffeur!”
Then Sara is told the verdict |
Then Sara comes in and is told the news;
"You don't deserve any less" |
“You don’t deserve any less,” she coldly replies.
"I understand that things have been awkward" |
Diane goes across to sit with Sara; “Look, I understand that things have been awkward between you over the last few days,”
"It's all Jason's fault" |
but Sara blames Jason, adding that he cannot drive now either.
"You encouraged him to drink" |
“If I understand it correctly, you encouraged him to drink the night before he was caught,” Diane goes on, “There’s no point flinging mud. What is important now is that you sort things out – you’re a good team.
"You should have heard his speech in court" |
“You should have heard his speech in court – he said that everything he does is for his family – you and Ifan – and he had tears in his eyes. You’re his world, Sara, and you know that.”
"I'm too busy!" |
In the kitchen at Penrhewl, the phone rings, but Sioned says she is too busy to answer it, so her mother has to do so.
"Hello, Bryn" |
It is Bryn Morgan calling, advising that he is delivering today, instead of tomorrow; “No, that’s not a problem – I will send Sioned to fetch them now,” she says,
Sioned regards herself as being taken for granted |
which does not please Sioned.
"Think about what I said earlier, Mam" |
Before she goes, she asks her mother to think about what she said earlier; she just wants a life of her own, that is all.
They have an announcement to make |
As Diane is doing the ironing, DJ and Non are about to make the announcement, and Diane wonders if it is to say that Non is expecting a baby. Dai rubbishes that idea,
"We're engaged!" |
and DJ tells them, “We are engaged!”
"You've only known each other five minutes!" |
“Blimey! You have only known each other five minutes!” Dai comments, but Diane is very happy for them. “I can’t say that I’m happy – not at all,” exclaims Dai,
"This is all about sex!" |
“This is about sex – it’s true, Diane, they fancy each other, she’s a Christian – he’ll put a ring on her finger, and off they go!”
DJ and Non are most offended |
DJ and Non are quite adamant that love is bringing them together, not sex, but Dai dismisses it as a farce, so DJ will not ask him to be the best man now. “Do you know what? I wouldn’t want to be in a shotgun wedding!” Dai declares.
"Mark Jones is family now. is he?" |
“Right, let’s go to Maes-y-Deri, where we have family who support us,” says DJ, and Diane predicts that Dai will come round,
Diane is furious with Dai |
something which Dai quite vehemently rejects.
"Where are you staying tonight?" |
Tyler looks at Eifion and asks where he is staying tonight;
"What's it got to do with you?" |
“What’s it got to do with you?” is the reply.
"He's in a terrible state, Iol" |
Tyler reports to Iolo that he is in a terrible state, and it is doubtful if he has anywhere to stay tonight.
Iolo is quite clear that he cannot stay with them, but appreciates that Eifion looks pathetic; “That’s what worries me – he’s in a very dark place at the moment,
"I don't want him in the house with Greta" |
“and I don’t want him in the house with Greta. He needs professional help.”
"If he were found in a hedge tomorrow" |
Tyler says he would never forgive himself if Eifion were found in a hedge tomorrow,
"Well, only for one night – OK?" |
and Iolo succumbs, agreeing that he can stay for one night, and then he must go tomorrow; “Greta must come first from now on, yes?”
"I don't think we can cope without you" |
When Sioned return to the kitchen, her mother is more conciliatory; “I understand that you want your freedom, but I have to be honest too. I don’t think I can cope without you, and we’ve got on so well lately, haven’t we?”
"It would be good to have some space" |
Sioned maintains that it would be good for them to have some space, so Eileen agrees that she can move into the shop with Mathew, if she pays half the rent. Sioned enquires if she is willing to pay more for the Cae Glas work,
"I shall still come to the farm" |
and assures her mother that she will still come to the farm.
"I'll go and tell Mathew the good news" |
She takes off her apron and will go to tell Mathew the good news.
DJ is very apologetic about his father |
DJ repeatedly apologises to Non for his father, and she points out that it is not his fault. He pleads, “You do you know that’s not why I want you to marry me, don’t you? Because that’s nothing to do with it.”
"That's disappointing!" |
Non remarks, “That’s disappointing,” then adds that his father will come round – he just needs time, and DJ admits that his Dad does get on his nerves at times.
"Diane deserves a medal" |
“Diane deserves a medal,” says Non, and DJ agrees.
Sioned is surprised that the flat does not look any tidier,
"Are you spying for your mother?" |
and Mathew suspects her of spying for her mother. “It’s not Mam you need to keep happy from now on – it’s me!” she announces,
"I'm your new flatmate!" |
“Your new flatmate!” and she has brought a bottle to celebrate.
He is surprised that she is moving in, but she replies, “If Mam does increase the rent, you’ll be able to afford it.”
"If you're reporting back to your Mam . . ." |
Mathew wants to know if she is reporting everything back to her mother, and she suggests, “You’ve got a point there – you’d better behave then!
"What are you waiting for?" |
“What are you waiting for? We’ve got fizz to drink – fetch the glasses!”
Sioned is very pleased with herself |
Sioned looks quite pleased with what she has organised.
"Come home with us for dinner" |
In the Deri, Iolo tells Eifion to come home with them for dinner;
"I don't want charity!" |
his reply is that he is fine, and neither does he does not want to stay the night. He insists he does not want charity;
"Leave me alone, will you?" |
“Leave me alone, will you? You two are the last people I’d want to stay the night with!”
He unsteadily gets to his feet |
He picks up his bag and staggers out of the pub.
Jason is contemplating |
Jason is sitting mournfully on the sofa when Sara comes in with a curry from Cwm Delhi, as a peace offering;
"I've brought a garlic naan, just for you!" |
“I’ve brought a garlic naan, just for you!” she says,
"She's changed her tune" |
and he looks puzzled.
"I don't suspect you any more" |
She apologises profusely, “I’m sorry I didn’t come to court with you today – I was at fault – I don’t suspect you any more. But you have to understand, with the messages and the lipstick – and you have been acting oddly lately.”
"I had the court case, Sara" |
He reminds her that had the court case. “Your Mam told me about your speech,” she adds.
"You're the only one for me, Sara" |
Jason assures her, “You’re the only one for me – and you know that.” He gives her a hug, and she is sorry for saying that he deserved the ban,
"I was to blame, too" |
as she was as much to blame as him. He admits, “I do deserve the ban, anyway –
"I'll be a lot more careful in future" |
“and when I get my licence back, I’ll be a lot more careful,”
"Are we still on the case with the house?" |
“Do you want to tell Gwyneth that we’re on the case with the house?” she enquires, “Because I’m still keen, if you are.” He will send her a message now, while Sara fetches the plates.
But then this Sandra crops up again |
But before he can do so, his phone sounds, and there is a message from Sandra; “How did it go? Been thinking about you all day.”
On the other side of that tractor . . . |
At Penrhewl, we see someone going into one of the barns;
. . . an intruder enters one of the barns . . . |
it is Eifion, who looks around,
. . . and falls into a drunken stupor |
then throws himself down on the hay to sleep.
