4 October 2018

"I'm sure there were more bottles here"
Dai is puzzled, as several bottles of alcohol seem to have gone missing;  “I could have sworn there were more bottles here when we went away,” he tells Diane.
Diane is disturbed by the earring she has found
She is more concerned with what she has just found – an earring;  “It’s not mine – it’s lucky I decided to clean this morning.”
Dai presumes that it belongs to Sara or Kath from last night, but she goes on, “They were here last night, yes, but not in our bedroom!
"This was under our bed, Dai!"
“This was under our bed, Dai!   The person who owns this has been in our bedroom – and perhaps even in our bed!   We’re going to find the person who owns this,
Dai cannot understand all the fuss
“and I’ve got a few things to say to her!”
Sheryl's – and Meilyr's grave
At the cemetery,
Hywel has brought flowers
Hywel has brought flowers for Sheryl’s grave;
"I told you I'd come back"
he says, “I told you I’d come back, didn’t I, Meilyr?   I think I’m doing the right thing – you do understand, don’t you, Sher?
How have things ended up like this?"
“How have things ended up like this?   I was so happy – and now, I’ve lost everything.”
Siôn approaches
Siôn appears, carrying flowers for Gwen’s grave, and asks how Hywel is;  he replies that a week’s holiday has helped.
"This is not an easy place to come to"
“This is not an easy place to come to,” Siôn says, “I’ve been here hundreds of times to see Gwen, and it’s still hard – but with a little time, it will gradually hurt less.”
"Can I walk with you, Siôn?"
Hywel would like to walk with Siôn, if he does not mind the company.
"I'm sure she needs some help, now the doc has left"
Rhys is purchasing some gardening tools from APD, as he is doing some work for Gaynor;  “I’m sure she needs a bit of help, now the doc has left,” Dai remarks,
"I hear your father's gone on his travels"
“And I hear your father’s gone on his travels, too.   When will he be back?”
Rhys does not know when Hywel will be back
but Rhys is not sure.
"Have you spoken to DJ about that earring?"
Diane comes in and demands whether Dai has spoken to DJ about the earring;  he irritably replies, “With Eifion’s mess, Jason’s shambles, Anita’s loft conversion –
"I'm up to here, Diane!"
“I’m up to here!   So, no, I haven’t asked DJ about the earring!”
Diane says she has not been able to find Non anywhere, but Dai cannot understand why she is making such a fuss;
"It's not as if you were a saint years ago, is it?"
“It’s not as if you were a saint years ago, is it?” he reminds her.
What angers her is that they have been lying about taking things slowly;
"They jumped into our bed!
“And once we were away, they jumped into our bed!”
Hywel needs some normality in his life
In the cemetery, Siôn says that it is nice to see Hywel back in the village;  “I had to come back to have some normality in my life, a bit of order, you know,” he replies.   “It’s nice to know I have a friend,”
"You have many friends, Hywel"
but Siôn points out that he has many friends, who were shaken by what happened, and people in shock do not always know how to respond.
"I can't run away – it's not the right thing to do"
“Going away has taught me one thing – I can’t run away – that’s not the right thing to do,” Hywel continues.
Hywel rejects the phone call . . .
His phone sounds, and he rejects the call, then thanks Siôn for listening.   The phone sounds again,
. . . but soon there is another – from Julie
and this time we see that it is a call from Julie;  he angrily rejects it again.
"You should have warned me about the vase"
In the café, Non tells DJ he should have warned her about the vase, but he says he did not know anything about it.
"So this is where you're hiding, is it?"
Then Diane comes in, grumbling, “This is where you’re hiding, is it?   This is yours, I take it, Non?”
The offending earring is put on the table
putting the earring on the table, “Do you have any idea how disappointed I am in both of you?   I’m glad you’ve – er – moved things along, as it were, but did you have to use our bed to do it?
They sit, without comment
“After all we’ve done for you – you should be ashamed!” and she walks out of the café.
"Debbie might have lost it"
Non suspects that Debbie might have lost it, the night she and Mark stayed in Bryntirion;
"Or one of Kath's visitors!"
“Or it might have been one of Kath’s visitors!” adds DJ.   Non does not like Diane thinking they have been in her bed,
"Diane will tell everyone now"
and anticipates that she will tell everyone now.
Gaynor is tidying the garden
Gaynor did not realise how untidy it was in her garden;  “Now is the time to tackle it before the winter.”   Rhys is about to prune the rose which Elgan gave to her, and asks how she feels about him now.
"I'm a bit lonely sometimes"
“I’m lonely sometimes, but having said that, I remember how much I enjoy my own company, and a bit of peace.”
Someone is peering over the hedge
As she attends to some other garden-clearing tasks, Hywel can be seen, the other side of the hedge.   His phone sounds yet again, then he walks away.
"I want an apology from you!"
DJ returns to Bryntirion, where he wants an apology from Diane;  “You had no right to upset Non like that – it was not fair.”
"You've taken advantage of me!"
She replies that she had to speak plainly, as they have taken advantage of her.
"Non and I have not slept in your bed!"
“You’re wrong!   Non and I have not slept in your bed,” he asserts, “And it is not her earring.”
“Don’t say you brought another woman here?” Diane gasps,
"It might be Debbie's earring"
and he begins to explain that it might be Debbie’s earring.
"You and Debbie?"
“You and Debbie?” she demands,
He explains about Debbie's and Mark's romantic night
but he continues that Debbie and Mark spent a romantic night there, to have a break from the rest of the Joneses.
"The Joneses have gone too far this time!"
“Right, we’ll see about this!” declares Diane, “The Joneses have gone too far this time!”
"Right then, Kathleen Pearl, what did you think you were doing?"
Diane marches into Maes-y-Deri, saying, “Right then, Kathleen Pearl, what did you think you were doing?   Letting Debbie and Mark use our house while we were away?   You’ve got a cheek – and to think I was grateful to you for looking after the place!”
"I shouldn't have spoken to you like that!"
Kath tries to calm her down, then Diane apologises to Non;  “I shouldn't have spoken to you like that – DJ has told me everything about these shenanigans.”
"Well?   What do you have to say?"
Then she continues to address Kath;  “Well?   What do you have to say?   What on earth do you think you were doing?”
"Perhaps things went a bit too far"
Kath concedes that perhaps things went a bit far;  “But do you know what, Diane?   Those little Chinese ladies had a fabulous time –
"What Chinese ladies?"
“the ones who stayed at Bryntirion for a weekend.”   Diane seems even more angry, and Non leaves them to continue their little chat.
"I'll discuss it with Dad when he gets back"
In the garden at Llwyncelyn, Rhys says that it is Ffion’s opinion that he should run classes for women, too;  “I’ll discuss it with Dad when he gets back – all I have had from him is the odd text.”
And suddenly – he is back
Then Hywel appears, and they welcome him back;
"Esther is with Elinor"
he maintains that Esther is with Elinor, as he had a few calls to make, and Gaynor will go and make a cup of tea.
"Bed and breakfast?"
“Bed and breakfast?” rages Diane, and Kath explains how hard things have been at Maes-y-Deri lately – they need money – they want to send poor Ricky to university.   “You can keep your violin, Kath,” Diane sneers,
"How are you going to compensate me?"
“What I want to know is how are you going to compensate me?   Let me see now – you can clean Bryntirion from top to bottom – deep clean, mind – for a whole month.
"Twice a week for a month?"
Twice a week for a month!   And you know that vase I gave you last night – to show my appreciation – I want it back!”
"This hasn't been anywhere near Barcelona, has it?"
“That one that you brought back from your cruise, is it?” enquires Kath, “This one?   From Barcelona?   Well, you’re not too bad at lying yourself, are you?   This hasn't been anywhere near Barcelona, has it?”
"Esther must have enjoyed herself"
Gaynor says that Esther must have enjoyed herself at the seaside;
Hywel has come back to sort things out
Hywel admits, “I thought it would be better if I came back to sort things out,” and they assure him they are here to help him.
"One of the visitors had a little accident with the vase . . ."
Kath makes a confession;  “One of the visitors had a little accident with the vase –
". . . and I found one just the same"
“and because I’m so nice, and such a good friend, I found one exactly the same.   So where exactly in Barcelona do they make vases like that?”
"A car boot sale in Llanarthur?"
Diane replies that it did not come from Barcelona and asks where Kath got it;  “A car boot sale in Llanarthur,” is the reply, “It’s so ugly!” and Diane agrees, wholeheartedly.
"Maybe the B&B business went a step too far"
“Maybe the bed and breakfast business went a step too far,” Kath suggests, and Diane prefers to say it went much too far, and they appear to be reconciled,
"But I still want you to clean Bryntirion!"
but Diane is still insistent that Kath will clean Bryntirion.
"You can buy me a drink in the Deri"
“Let’s discuss this in the Deri – you can buy me a drink to show there are no hard feelings,” says Kath.
Again Hywel's phone rings
Hywel is glad that things are going well for Rhys, and it appears that all those involved say the training sessions are great.   Yet again Hywel’s phone sounds, and he says that he has been getting these cold calls all day;
"I think I'd better get Esther"
Rhys advises him to block the number, but he thinks he had better go to get Esther.
Gaynor invites him and Esther over at the weekend, suggesting that they could have a picnic;
Hywel cannot keep up the pretence any longer
Hywel is overcome with emotion, and tells them,
"The truth is, she's not here . . ."
“The truth is, she’s not here –
". . . she's somewhere better than being with me"
“she’s safe – she is somewhere better than with me.”
"Diane came over earlier"
In the Deri, DJ joins Non at the bar, where he is told that Diane came over earlier;
They are being watched
she and Kath are watching from the other end of the bar.
"I'm glad you told the truth"
Non is glad that DJ told the truth, and says it is the nicest thing that anyone has done for her, for a long time.
"Things are moving forward – slowly"
Diane remarks, “As no-one tells me anything any more, what exactly is going on between those two now?”   Kath answers that she thinks things are moving forward slowly, but those two are as slow as the buses years ago, and need a good shunt into the terminus.
"When are you going to make it official?"
DJ and Non come over to them, and are asked by Diane when they are going to make it official;
"That's no-one else's business"
DJ replies that is no-one else’s business, and urges them to leave him and Non alone.
"It's about time you got a move on"
Diane seems to think that it is about time they got a move on, but DJ tells her, “I think you’ve embarrassed Non too much today already – so can you just leave her alone?”
Non is indeed looking embarrassed
Kath joins in, and asks Non, “You’re not embarrassed about DJ, are you?”
"Look what you've done now!"
Non jumps up and appears to be heading towards the door,
However, Non calls for attention
but instead calls for the attention of all the customers in the pub.
“I’d like to say something – I’m pretty sure I’ve met the most perfect man in the whole world!   “It’s taken me too long to realise that, so I’d like to say –
"DJ, I love you!"
“and I don’t care who hears me – DJ, I love you!”
DJ looks rather sheepish . . .
Now DJ is the one to look embarrassed,
. . . but kisses her . . .
but he steps forward and kisses her.
. . . and they receive a round of applause
There is a spontaneous round of applause from the other customers.
"It's Julie – Esther is with her!"
Gaynor demands why Hywel will not tell her where Esther is, and the reason that his phone is ringing all the time.   He stands up and exclaims, “Julie – it’s Julie phoning – Esther is with her!   Like I said, she is safe.”
"I'm not going to raise her"
Gaynor asks when he will be picking her up, and he replies, “I’m not.   I’m clear in my mind about this – I’m not going to raise her.”
Gaynor protests . . .
Amid protests from Gaynor
. . . as does Rhys . . .
and Rhys, he goes on, “I’m adamant – this is the only way forward for me and Esther.   I’m going to contact the authorities first thing next week, and put her up for adoption.”
. . . but Hywel's mind is made up
He leaves the garden.
