30 October 2018

"Here, a cup of proper coffee"
As he is on half-term, Tyler has made some proper coffee and gives Eifion a cup;
"I didn't get much sleep last night"
“My head’s still buzzing, and I didn’t get much sleep last night,” Eifion says.   Iolo has told Tyler about the boys moving to Scotland,
Eifion feels sorry for himself
and Eifion continues, “Typical, isn’t it?”
"I'm sure you'll be able to sort something out"
Tyler is sure that he and Cadno will be able to sort something out, but is told, “It has been one thing after another since she found out.”   Again Tyler maintains that it is better that the matter is out in the open now, but Eifion replies that it is not;
"I'm not gay, am I?"
“I’m not gay, am I?”
“Don’t let this news about Cadno and Scotland get you down,” Tyler urges, but Eifion points out all that has happened to him – and apparently Bobi and Arthur prefer football now.
"I'm sure I heard Bobi say 'aye'!"
“I’m sure I heard Bobi say ‘Aye!’ yesterday – they will have lost their Welsh in no time!” he rants, but Tyler says he is going over the top now, and suggests that he organises something with them on a regular basis.
“I can’t go to Scotland constantly, can I?   But I have organised to take them skiing at Pembrey Park today – I’d better get moving,” Eifion says.
You should take a holiday
Then Tyler encourages him to take a holiday, as it will be something to look forward to.
This gives Eifion an idea
This makes Eifion think, and he admits, “I need to have more guts, don’t I?   I don’t want to be a Dad who only sees his children twice a year.”
Britt has bought Aaron a new game
Britt has bought a new game for Aaron;  she tells Colin, “He likes playing it in his room with Dylan – there’s nothing wrong with that, is there?
"You're holding it like it's dog dirt!"
You’re holding it like its dog dirt!”   Colin questions whether another game is the best thing for him, but Britt replies that he has been through a lot and he deserves a treat.
"And you feel guilty, perhaps?"
Colin continues, “And you feel guilty about being so heavy-handed, perhaps?   As long as he doesn’t see it as some sort of reward – I know he was being bullied, but he was no angel either.
"I don't want him addicted, like Chester was"
I don’t want to see him getting addicted to that box, like Chester was.”
"It's only a game, Col"
Britt protests that it is only a game, but he considers that they should have got him something more useful –
"How about a bike – or a fishing rod?"
like a bike or a fishing rod – something to get him outdoors.
"Today's children aren't into that sort of thing!"
Britt laughs at the suggestion;  “Today’s children aren’t into that sort of thing, Col!   They like playing on computers – get with it!”
Eileen suffers a dizzy spell
Eileen is zipping up Bobi’s jacket, when she suffers from a dizzy spell;
"Are you all right?"
“Are you all right?” asks Bobi, and she sits down for a rest.
"Auntie Eileen is ill"
He tells his father, “Auntie Eileen is ill,” and Eifion says that she does look pale, wondering if it is connected with the diabetes,
"I just got up too quickly"
but she says that she simply got up too quickly.
"Did you know they were moving to Scotland?"
Eifion asks Eileen if she knew they were moving to Scotland, and she answers that she did not know anything definite, and seems to be troubled by a twinge of backache.
Eileen gives the boys a kiss
Eifion and the boys leave for their day out.
"I want APD's van moved!"
In the café, Anita, bad-tempered as always, moans to Mathew that he has left the APD van outside Tapas, and she wants it moved;  “I’ve complained to Dai – young people have no manners these days!
"You're lucky I haven't phoned the police!"
You’re lucky I haven’t phoned the police to tow that tank away!”
"If it was a tank, I know who I'd drive it towards!"
Mathew grimly replies, “If it was a tank, I know who I would drive it towards!”
This tickles Ricky
much to the amusement of Ricky;  “Cool down – it’s only been there ten minutes.”
"And she's lecturing me on manners!"
Then he mutters to Ricky, “And she’s lecturing me on manners,”
Anita is off again
which causes Anita to start again.
"I wasn't allowed to be at the governors' meeting"
As Britt is about to unlock the chip shop, she is met by Garry, who tells her, “I know you’re angry about Aaron and the school, but in case you think I can help somehow, I wasn’t allowed to be at the governors’ meeting.”
"I don't need your help with anything!"
She angrily insists that she does not need his help with this or anything else.
Eifion is preparing to print something
At number 7, Eifion plugs the laptop into the printer, while the boys are playing with a ball in the back garden.
"Congratulations on your new house"
Back in the café, Colin congratulates Anita on her new house by the sea;  “It’s a shame more people in Cwmderi dont have your attitude,” she replies, “Technically you could call Morawel a holiday home.
"You and Britt can stay one weekend"
You and Britt are welcome to come and stay one weekend, as you’ve been so supportive.”
"Move the van!"
As she leaves, she snarls at Mathew, “Move the van!”
Mathew does not know how Colin can talk to Anita;
"People like her and Siôn have three houses!"
“It’s disgraceful – people like her and Siôn have three houses – we won’t be able to afford to buy one.”
"And she gets rent from the business units"
Ricky points out that she also gets rent from the business units, with Mathew adding, “She wants to charge Rhys £40 an hour to hold the fitness club.”
"Property is theft!"
Ricky declares, “People like Anita always trample over the poor – property is theft – anarchy is the only answer!”
Colin remarks that it is nice to see that A-level history has left its mark on him;
"Or Marx, I should say!"
“Or Marx, I should say!” he grins, as he leaves with his doughnut.
"The boys are welcome to stay at number 7"
Tyler sees Eileen outside the shop, and advises her that Bobi and Arthur are welcome to stay with Eifion at number 7.
"Cadno doesn't want that!"
“Cadno doesn’t want that,” she replies, and he comments that Cadno is getting her own way a lot these days.
"Yes, terrible idea for them to stay overnight with their father!"
He sarcastically adds he is sure that it is a terrible idea for them to stay overnight with their father.
Eileen has another twinge of pain
As she goes into the shop, she feels another pain, and says she needs to sit down.
Eifion collects his printing . . .
Inside number 7, Eifion calls the boys as it is time to go;
. . . three tickets to Rosslare in Ireland
he picks up from the printer three Cloverline e-tickets from Fishguard to Rosslare (on the vessel mv Cloverliner436)
He is taking a big step
and takes a deep breath.
Britt arrives with a box
Britt arrives at the Deri with a box, announcing to Garry, “In case you’ve forgotten, it’s Hallowe’en.   This place doesn’t look like it.”
"Hallowe'en is over-rated American nonsense!"
He replies that Hallowe’en is over-rated American nonsense.
She is quite insistent that it could be a real money-spinner;
"Leave it with me"
“Leave it with me – I’ll put a couple of pumpkins and decorations around the place – customers like it, it’s a laugh – and Dani would want us to do something.
"You've let things slip in here!"
You need a woman’s touch in here, because you’ve let things slip!   I am co-owner of this place, so I have every right to do this!”
"Is this some kind of olive branch?"
“Do you want me to take this as some sort of olive branch, do you?” Garry enquires, as she works out where she is going to put the decorations.
"I'm cooking Chinese tonight"
Tyler is leaving a message for Iolo that he will be cooking a Chinese meal, when he notices something in the printer, which Eifion left behind;
He discovers a piece of evidence
it is the receipt for the ferry tickets.
"I almost got sacked because of you!"
Mathew is furious when he encounters Anita outside the shop;  “I almost got sacked because of you!” he exclaims.
"I hope that it taught you a lesson!"
“Well, I hope that it taught you a lesson,” she answers, “It is obvious there is no room to park there – well, obvious to all normal people, anyway!”   He wonders what is wrong with her, the way she treated his friends last week and is now causing trouble for him.
“Why don’t you help young people around here?” he demands, “You could have really helped Rhys.”
"If he can't afford rent, he shouldn't be in business!"
She rages that if he cannot afford rent, he should not be in business.   Mathew reports that he has found somewhere now, almost for free;  “In the vestry, no thanks to you!”
"Britt says it's cocktails and orange food!"
Tyler arrives at the Deri and is told by Garry that for Hallowe’en they will be serving cocktails and orange food, according to Britt.   “It’s nothing to do with me – Britt is organising it,” Garry assures him.
"Sorry, Eileen, I spoke out of turn"
Tyler sees Eileen and apologises for earlier, admitting that he spoke out of turn, and asking if she feels better.
"I know he's going through a lot"
“It’s all right for you to be concerned about Eifion, I know he’s going through a lot,” she says,
"You told him to do what?"
and he tells her that he advised Eifion to take the boys on holiday.
“I think he’s taken my advice already – I saw a receipt for three ferry tickets to Ireland, going tonight and coming back on Friday – that’s OK, isnt it?”
"He's not answering his phone"
Eileen immediately tries to phone Eifion, but there is no reply;  she insists that Cadno will not want that.
Tyler is sure that it will do him and the boys good, but Eileen worries, “What if he’s planning to take the children away and never come back?”
"Let's hope I'm in time!"
She picks up her coat and hurries out, saying, “I’m going to stop them – let’s hope I’m in time!”
"I've bought loads of pumpkins"
In the shop, Britt says that she has bought loads of pumpkins, and a witch’s hat;
"Think up some names for cocktails"
“Come to the Deri later to give me a hand, OK, Col?   And think of names for cocktails – something about ghosts.”
"How about 'Monk's Blood'?"
He immediately comes up with, “Fright Night Fever and Monk’s Blood,” among others.   Britt is confident that if they are tasty, people will pay handsomely for a nice cocktail – a Cwmderi Hallowe’en Cocktail.
"I'm glad you're getting on with Garry now"
He is glad that she and Garry are getting on now.
Then Anita comes in, and is told about the big Hallowe’en party;
"I don't think that will appeal to Siôn and me"
“I don’t think that will appeal to Siôn and me,” she replies, and Britt accuses her of becoming a snob, with that place at the seaside.
"He would never have done something like that when I was with him"
She goes on, “I’m surprised Siôn has bought a holiday home – he would never have done something like that when I was with him.”
Colin tries to calm things down,
"People are so jealous, it's pathetic!
but Anita is adamant, “Britt is no different to anyone else in Cwmderi – people are so jealous, it’s pathetic!”
Again Colin appeals to them not to argue, and Britt leaves;
"I have to prepare a night of fun for the commoners!"
her parting comment is, “I have work to do, preparing a night of fun for the commoners in this village!”
The bags are all packed
Eifion is packing bags in the kitchen at Penrhewl
"What do you think you're doing?"
when Eileen returns;  “I’m taking them camping for a couple of days,” he tells her,
"Camping in Ireland – there's nothing wrong with that"
“Camping in Ireland – there’s nothing wrong with that – it’s not right that they can’t stay with their father overnight.”
"They're my children too"
Eileen urges him to consider what Cadno would want, but he reminds her they are his children too, and he never sees them.
"You may never see them again!"
“If you take them now, you may never see them again,” she warns, “Cadno wouldn’t have a choice if you decide to kidnap them!”
He tells her not to be so dramatic – he is not stupid enough to kidnap them;
"We'll be back in Cwmderi on Friday"
“Just tell Cadno that we’ll be back in Cwmderi on Friday.”   He will not listen to anything Eileen says, and walks out with the bags.
The Deri is full of pumpkins
Colin arrives at the Deri, where there are already pumpkins everywhere;  “All I need to do is to put these candles in these pumpkins,” Britt tells him, adding that Garry is over the moon at the idea.
They don suitable hats . . .
She dons her witch’s hat, and gives one to Colin.
. . . and Colin is given two LED candles
“It will be a shame to throw away all these pumpkins,” observes Colin,
They will be living on pumpkin for a fortnight
and she informs him that they will be having pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie and pumpkin cake for the next two weeks.
Only one thing stands in Eifion's way . . .
Eifion and the boys are in the car, all ready to leave;
. . . and that is Eileen
Britt stands in front of it, demanding that he does not do this.
She remonstrates with him, but he pushes her away . . .
She opens the drivers door, but he pushes her away, saying, “Leave me alone, will you?”
. . . and she falls to the ground
She stumbles and falls to the ground,
He drives away . . .
as he drives away.
. . . but does look back once
He stops to look back, where Eileen is screaming, “The baby’s coming!   Help me!” but then accelerates away through the farm gate.
