16 July 2018

Eileen looks at her scan photo
Eileen is looking at her scan photo,
"Only four months to go"
and Jim comments that there are only four months to go, and they should put it in a frame.
"The afternoon shift is awake!"
Then Sioned comes in, and Jim says, “The afternoon shift is awake!   I shall have to go to APD later.”
"I'll only be five minutes, Jim"
Sioned wants to know if she can have a lift to the village – she assures him she will only be five minutes, grabs his piece of toast and hurries off to get dressed.
Jim mutters, “Jim Probert, at your service,”
Eileen definitely does not look herself
and Eileen, looking rather disorientated, drinks a glass of water.
In the shop, Britt asks if Cadno is all right,
"Cadno's gone on the school bus trip"
and Eifion replies that she has gone on the school trip to keep the bus under control.
"Are you going to treat them to a holiday?"
As Tyler comes in,  Colin asks if Eifion is going to treat Cadno and the boys to a holiday.   Eifion suddenly wants him to continue serving the customers while he sorts out the delivery;
"Who's running this shop – you or me?"
“Who’s running the shop – you or me?   Just do it!” is Eifion’s angry retort.
Alun is trying to get hold of him
Then, to add to his problems, Eifion has a phone call from Alun;
"Another withheld number!"
he ignores it, telling Britt that it was another withheld number.   She starts ranting about, “All these calls about PPI, windows – as well as being scammed!
"I had one, asking if I had a will!"
“I had one the other day, asking if I had a will.”   Eifion snaps angrily at her,
Eifion is very wound up
maintaining that he has things to do, and walks out of the shop.
The marriage guidance appointment . . .
Gethin is on the phone as he comes out of APD;  “I’ll have to check with Ffion first, but it should be all right.   If you don’t hear to the contrary, 5:00pm on Friday.”
. . . which he tells Jim about
He bumps into Jim and discloses that he has organised a counselling session for him and Ffion.
Jim is surprised that they are back together again, but Gethin informs him that is what he is aiming for.   Jim says, “It’s a shame that Hywel and Sheryl didn’t have a bit of counselling – but there we are, it’s too late for them now.”
Gethin looks puzzled
Gethin looks puzzled, and Jim explains,
"Sheryl's moved into the salon flat"
“Sheryl’s kicked Sioned out of the salon flat and moved in.   Sioned’s back living with us!”
He harbours some fresh hope
Gethin looks hopefully up at the salon flat windows.
"You can't wait to get rid of me!"
Inside, Sioned is collecting another box of her belongings;  “You can’t wait to get rid of me!” she snarls, but Sheryl pleads that she did not have any choice, as she needed somewhere to live straightaway.
Then Gethin turns up
Gethin arrives,
"That's why you want me out so soon!"
and Sioned concludes, “That’s why you want me out so soon – to make room for the two of you!” and she goes.
"I thought you were trying to work things out"
“I thought you were trying to work things out with Hywel,” he begins,
"It's a waste of time!"
but she describes that as a waste of time.   “At least you’ve got Esther,” he goes on, but is told that Hywel is seeking joint custody, and that Esther needs stability here with her mother.
"If there's anything I can do"
“If there is anything that I can do,” he says,
"You concentrate on Ffion!"
but she advises him he would be better off concentrating on Ffion, and he leaves.
Eifion has a message from Alun
In the street, Eifion listens to a message on his phone, from Alun;  “I just want to make sure you’re all right.   Phone me when you get a chance.”
"You can't ignore every phone call"
Tyler comes out of the shop and remarks, “You can’t ignore every phone call.”   Eifion tells him that whatever Alun said was a lie, because he’s crazy.   Tyler continues, “I know how hard it is to accept what you are – I’ve been there.”
Iolo intervenes . . .
Iolo comes along the street and notices that Eifion is becoming angry,
. . . and tries to drag Tyler away
so attempts to drag Tyler away, saying that it is none of their business.
"We haven't breathed a word"
Tyler assures Eifion that they have not breathed a word, and it is none of their business.
Alun is hanging around again . . .
Alun’s car comes along the street.
. . . and Eifion walks down the alley
As Eifion turns to walk down the alley,
"Is it all right with Jim for me to live here?"
Eileen is asleep on the sofa when Sioned returns, and asks, “Do you think it’s all right with Jim for me to live here?
"He was a bit off with me this morning"
“He was a bit off with me this morning.”
"Post for you, Sioned"
Jim comes in and hands Sioned an item of post;  he had a detour on the way home to pick up a couple of gifts,
He has bought a picture frame . . .
a picture frame for the scan photo
. . . and some sleep suits . . .
and some sleep suits for the baby.   Sioned also presents her mother with  a similar garment,
. . . which Jim finds disturbing
at which Jim looks somewhat disgruntled.
"Eifion is in an awkward position"
Iolo is sympathetic towards Eifion, pointing out that he is in an awkward position,
"Alun didn't make the story up"
but Tyler is adamant that they both know Alun did not make up the story.   “There’s no point in getting wound up about it – in any case, what can we do about it?” reasons Iolo. Tyler suggests that he could say he saw them snogging;  Iolo asks, “And how do you  explain that?
"While you were stalking your husband's ex?"
“While you were stalking your husband’s ex?   I don’t want people to think you don’t trust me.   We’re in a good place now, but I don’t want this to come between us.   The situation is complicated enough without us being dragged into it.”
"He's in total denial"
Tyler points out that Eifion is totally stressed out, trying to keep the truth a secret;  he is in total denial.
Alun creeps up behind Eifion
Eifion is arranging the fruit outside the shop when Alun appears up the alley;  “I told you to stay away!” Eifion roars at him,
"If you had answered my calls, I wouldn't have come"
and he replies if his calls had been answered, he would not have come here.   He also produces a watch, which Eifion left at the house.
"If you hadn't told Iolo and Tyler"
“I would be fine if you had not told Iolo and Tyler,” he insists, but Alun replies that it is obvious something is wrong, and they will not tell anyone.   Eifion does not trust Tyler, as they have had their the past differences.
"Well, hello – Alun, isn't t?"
Colin recognises Alun, and tells Eifion, “I shared a house with Iolo when he and Alun were dating – a long time ago.”   Alun makes up a tale about being in Cwmderi by accident – taking the wrong turning and asking for directions.
"Go and have an early lunch, Colin"
Eifion seems eager for Colin to take an early lunch, while he goes to point out the route to Llanarthur to Alun.
"Wasn't that Alun, who used to go out with Iolo?"
As they head into the alley, Britt joins Colin;  “Wasn’t that Alun, who used to go out with Iolo?”
"Colin will be asking questions now!"
In the back street, Eifion is panicking that Colin will be asking questions now.
"I want you to leave!"
“I want you to leave, please, before anyone else sees you!”
"I was tempted to keep the watch"
Alun hands over the watch, although admitting that he was tempted to keep it, to remind him of ‘John’.   Eifion symbolically removes Alun’s number from his phone, saying that he will not need it any more,
"You can't delete what happened"
but is reminded that he cannot delete what happened.
"Don't phone me – and don't come here again!"
Once more, Eifion instructs him, “Don’t phone me again – and don’t come to Cwmderi again!”   Eifion hopes that this is the end of the matter.
"He used to know his way round here pretty well"
“He said he was lost, but he used to know his way around here pretty well when they were together.
"Something wasn't quite right"
“Something wasn’t quite right, I’m telling you now, says Colin”
"Not content just to break up marriages!"
Sheryl arrives, and Jim comes across to have a word;  “You’re not content just to break up marriages, are you?   You’re breaking up homes as well –
"Throwing Sioned out into the street!"
“throwing Sioned out into the street.   There is always a choice, Sheryl – you could have let her stay – that’s what I have to do, but I believe in doing what’s right – more than I can say for you!”
"Come on, calm down, Jim!"
Gethin has just come into the Deri, and tells Jim to calm down;  Sheryl points out she is trying to do what is right for Esther, but he replies,
"You wouldn't have messed around with him!"
“If that’s true, you wouldn’t have messed around with him!”   Gethin again objects, but Sheryl insists she can deal with this on her own.
He is reminded of his marriage guidance meeting
“Isn’t it time you left for your marriage guidance meeting?” enquires Jim, and Sheryl tells Gethin that she is not at all upset.
"You're going to the toilet a lot"
“You’re going to the toilet a lot,” says Sioned, and her mother replies that she was the same when she was carrying her and John.
Penrhewl has lost another customer
Then there is a phone call, with another customer cancelling their order from Penrhewl, and they will not be dissuaded when assured that different people are in charge now.
"Eifion has destroyed our reputation for ever"
“Eifion’s destroyed Penrhewl’s reputation for ever – what are we going to do with all this produce?” wonders Eileen.
"I know it's not easy having Sioned living here"
Jim comes in, and Sioned makes herself scarce.   Eileen tells him, “I know it isn’t easy having Sioned living here,” but he agrees that they could not leave her without a roof over her head.
"As long as she doesn't make a habit of pinching my toast!"
“Just as long as she doesn’t make a habit of pinching my toast!” he comments, “But she does seem to be appreciative.”
Eileen is not feeling right
Eileen stands up and feels rather lightheaded.
Here comes Gethin again
Gethin walks into the salon yet again;
"I don't have any customers – thanks to you!"
“I don’t have any customers – thanks to you!” Sheryl moans,
"I didn't force you to have an affair"
but he points out that he did not force her to have an affair.
"Now I could lose Esther"
“Everyone’s turned against me and now I could lose Esther!” she wails, but he tells her not to worry about  Hywel.   “He says he wants joint custody – how can I not worry?   He was serious, and I don’t want Esther passed from one parent to the other.   She needs to be home with me!”
"We could give her stability – if we were together"
“We could give her stability . . . if we were together,” Gethin begins,
"Not that again!"
but she does not want to listen to this.   She and Hywel splitting up makes no difference to the two of them.
“So why are you and Ffion going for counselling?” she asks,
"I've just realised i still have feelings for you!"
and is told that he has just realised he still has feelings for Sheryl.   “Would you really break Ffion’s heart again?,” she demands, “It looks like you should try harder, then!   There’s no way back for us!”
Alun tells Iolo and Tyler about Eifion
Alun has gone to see Iolo and Tyler to tell them about Eifion;  Tyler says that his misunderstanding with Eifion led to a quarrel.   Alun expects the truth to come out anyway, as Eifion cannot carry on like this;
"Something is bound to crack"
he knows that from experience – something is bound to crack.   However, there is nothing else he can do;  “I promised not to phone him again – I can’t force him to be with me, can I? He made his feelings crystal clear.”
"Keep an eye on him for me"
As he leaves, Alun asks them to keep an eye on Eifion, and says, “You win some, you lose some!   The best thing I can do is stay away.”
"Look who's coming out of number 7"
As he leaves, Colin is watching from across the road in the shop,
Eifion is looking very worried
and Britt suspects there is something going on, although sure that Iolo would never cheat on Tyler.
"Wasn't your ex-boyfriend?"
Then they see Iolo coming towards the shop, and Britt immediately pumps him for information;  “Wasn’t that your ex-boyfriend outside your house?”
"As he was in Cwmderi, he called in"
Iolo’s reply is that he took the wrong turn, and as he was in Cwmderi, called in to see him.   Now he will probably not see him again for years.
“Has Alun met anyone else?” Britt enquires, and they tell her not as far as they know.
"Come on – I gave you a £20 note!"
Eifion is in such a nervous state that he gives Britt the wrong change, arguing that he is still not used to this place.
He rushes out of the shop again . . .
After correcting it, he hurries out of the back door of the shop,
. . . in a very anguished state
in a state of total panic.
Sheryl looks out into the street . . .
Sheryl is looking out of the front of the salon, watching people walking by,
. . . then another client cancels
when her phone rings, but it is only Mrs Jenkins, cancelling her appointment.
She closes up the salon
She closes the salon and looks hopelessly out of the window.
Sioned has an idea to revitalise the business
At Penrhewl, Sioned knows what they should do with all the unsold jars of jam;  “Reduce the price and rebrand everything.”   Jim considers that removing all reminders of the previous business is a good idea, and she continues, “A new logo, a new name – have a photograph of you on the website, to show that this place is run by a safe pair of hands – a new start.”
"I'll do all the design work"
Eileen has got up to fetch herself a glass of water, as Sioned assures Jim that she can handle all the design work involved.   Eileen drops her glass into the sink
Eileen collapses in a heap on the floor
and collapses on the floor;  Sioned shouts to Jim to phone for ambulance, quickly,
"Wake up, Mam, wake up!"
and urges her mother to wake up.
