18 July 2018

Gaynor is out running in the country . . .
Gaynor is running alongside a lake with some wooden chalets in the background,
. . . but, as usual, Angharad is not far away
when suddenly Angharad jumps out from behind a tree, exclaiming, “What a nice surprise!”
Gaynor has no desire to stop . . .
Gaynor does not want to stop, as she is running late,
. . . so Angharad invents an accident
so is about to continue when Angharad falls to the ground with cries of anguish, pretending to have twisted her ankle.
"Could Elgan have a look at it?"
She goes on making a great fuss about how painful it is, and wonders if Elgan could have a look at it;  “I can’t walk all the way home,” she wails, “Can you please give him a call?”
DJ is unable to contact Non
DJ is trying to contact Non, and has left several messages;
Dai's fashionable shorts
Dai wants to take a pair of shorts with him on the cruise.   Diane is rather scathing;  “Would you go on holiday with someone planning to wear these?” she demands, but DJ does not reply.
He explains that Non is not answering his calls or his texts;
Dai makes an uncalled-for remark . . .
when Dai makes suggestive remarks about their relationship,
. . . to which DJ takes exception
DJ jumps up and leaves the house.
"Something's bothering him, Dai"
Diane says that he did not go to bed until the early hours, and something is bothering him.
The doctor is called out
The doctor has dutifully come to the lakeside, where Angharad is making suitably pained noises, and diagnoses that it seems like Plantar Fasciitis.   She says she does not know what happened,
"Does she need to go to hospital?"
and he comments that hospital is unnecessary, as they would only suggest physiotherapy.   He will give her a lift to Llwyncelyn and take a closer look at it there.
"Right, Gaynor, you can carry on running, now!"
Angharad rather offhandedly tells Gaynor that she can carry on with her running.
Kelly has a very large delivery . . .
At the café, several boxes and bags have been delivered, but Kelly will not reveal what they all contain;
. . . and wants Ed out of the way
she sends Ed out to get some more milk, while she takes it all upstairs.   “That was a close shave,” she tells the delivery girl,
"It's a surprise!"
“It’s a surprise!”
Chester wants some man-to-man advice
Outside the café, Chester asks Ed a personal question;  “I want some advice – man to man, you know.
"On behalf of this mate of mine"
“On behalf of a friend of mine, who has just been dumped, and he’s a bit gutted,
"He's taken a fancy to someone else"
“but he has taken a fancy to someone else and wants to impress her.
Ed can detect perfume, and Chester explains that it is expensive aftershave.
"Trying to impress someone – like your mate?"
“Trying to impress someone – like your mate?” Ed enquires.
"Mam's going away on holiday"
Jason and Sara come out of their front door, and do not know who is going to look after Ifan;  he stresses, “Mam can’t do it – she is going away on holiday, remember?”
Sara is heading to the café
Sara has a meeting with a client in the café, and as she passes Chester, he is full of smiles.
The doctor gives his prognosis
Elgan predicts that Angharad’s ankle should loosen up, but if it does not get better, she should go and see her own doctor.   “I might change doctors – you do a much better job than mine!” she simpers, while Gaynor, in the background, is quietly fuming.
"Do you think she's pretending?"
“Do you think she’s pretending?” Gaynor asks him, “To get your attention?” but he replies that she definitely seems to be in pain.
"You go and have a shower"
He advises Gaynor to go and have a shower, while he explains the necessary exercises to Angharad.
Gaynor is sick of Angharad's gushing manner
“Ooh, I’ve always wanted a personal trainer!” gushes Angharad.
"DJ's worried he's done something to upset you"
“I don’t want you to think I’m poking my nose in,” says Dai to Non, “But DJ is worried that he’s done something to upset you.”
She tells him that she is not replying to DJ’s messages in case she makes matters worse;
"I don't think he's coping well"
“Being wrongly accused has hit him harder than I realised – people still treat him differently, and I don’t think he’s coping well.   I’m not sure what it is but he’s not his usual self.”
Gwen is doing some extra overtime
Kelly has called in Gwen to help out in the café while she is doing whatever it is upstairs.   Sara concludes her meeting with her client, and will send the sample batches today;
"Was it a good meeting?"
Chester, who has been lurking nearby, asks if it was a good meeting, and apparently the client was interested in their new cycling range.
"There's a delivery at Awyr Iach – it won't shift itself!"
DJ comes in, wondering why Chester is in the café, as they have had a delivery at Awyr Iach and the stuff will not shift itself.   Sara corrects him that Chester does not start work until 10 o’clock,
"Oh – sorry about that"
which rather takes the wind out of DJ’s sails.
"I don't mind starting early"
Chester, however, is quite willing to start a little early, and she is very grateful.
"There is no mate, is there?"
Ed comes across, and says, “There is no mate, is there?”   Chester urges him not to say anything, but Ed goes on, “She’s old enough to be your mother!”   Chester maintains that she is still fit, and he thinks that she fancies him too.
"Go shopping – or go for a jog"
Kelly is taking the last of the packages upstairs and tells Ed to go shopping or go for a jog.
"You can't come upstairs until I tell you!"
“You can’t come upstairs until I tell you – surprise!” so he goes out of the café.
"It feels a lot more flexible, now"
Angharad reports that her ankle is a lot more flexible now, but Elgan recommends that she have some physiotherapy.   She thanks them both for their help, and she enjoyed Gaynor’s company last week;  “Right, I’d better call a taxi,” she says,
"I'll give you a lift"
and, as anticipated, Elgan offers to give her a lift.
She hides her phone down the back of a chair
She carefully slips her phone down behind a cushion in the chair before she goes.
Kelly looks quite pleased . . .
Kelly looks quite pleased with her handiwork, but then Ed returns without permission;
. . . but Ed is somewhat amazed
he argues that he has walked for miles, but Kelly says that it is not finished.
She assumes he does not like it
He looks around and is amazed by her makeover;  she immediately assumes that he does not like it, but on the contrary he says that he does.
"It's very colourful!"
“It’s very colourful – it’s different – I’ll have to wear shades, that’s all!”
She starts to wrap up some items again
She starts wrapping up some of the items again.
"A thing like that takes its toll"
“I thought the boy was coping, but when you sit down and think it through, being wrongly accused of rape, and then the whole village turns against you – a thing like that takes its toll,
"There are consequences, in his head"
“there are consequences in his head.”
"Your case is five pounds over!"
Diane is weighing the luggage, and finds that Dai’s case is 5 pounds over.
DJ has just arrived by the back door
As DJ comes in silently through the back door, Dai suggests that they pack another case, so DJ can come with them.   “A holiday would do him good – I don’t know when he last went away.
"A change of scenery, that's what he needs"
“A change of scenery and some fresh air – he’s been through a lot lately, he needs a chance to switch off.   Plenty of vitamin D – that’s what he needs.”
"I'm all right, Dad!"
DJ walks in and in answer to his father’s offer says that he is all right;  Dai replies that he is obviously not all right.   “I can see it and so can everyone else – we’re not making a fuss,
"You're suffering from mental exhaustion"
“but you’re suffering from mental exhaustion.   It’s important that you look after your mind as well as your body.   Come on, why don’t you come with us?”
"Two cinemas, a casino . . ."
DJ does not know what he would do on board ship for a month;  he is told that he does not need to do anything – he can drink cocktails, swim, there are two cinemas, a casino
". . . and ten different bars!"
and ten different bars.”
"And there are cabins available cheaply!"
Diane is consulting the laptop, and finds that there are cabins available;  “Cheaper than what we paid!”   DJ protests that they do not want him there like a gooseberry, and Diane informs him, “I’m not looking forward to spending a month on a ship with your father!”
"We've never been on holiday, as father and son"
“Listen, we’ve never been on holiday together, have we, as father and son?” Dai says.
Gaynor is talking to Ffion . . .
Gaynor is on the phone, telling Ffion that she is planning to work from home tomorrow morning, when Angharad turns up yet again with a bottle to thank Elgan for rescuing her this morning, and she wants to ask him a favour.
. . . when Angharad arrives – yet again
“I’ve lost my mobile phone – did I leave it here somewhere?   I’ve looked everywhere for it, and I’m lost without it!”
She grabs Gaynor’s phone to dial the number;  “I’m sure I’m in your contacts somewhere,” she says,
She finds she is called 'Anguish' . . .
but finds she is listed under the name ‘Anguish!’
. . . which Elgan finds amusing
Gaynor blames predictive text.   Sure enough, when she dials the number the phone can be heard ringing behind the cushion,
"Here it is!"
and Elgan retrieves it for her.
After extravagantly thanking him, she asks if they have had dinner yet,
"We're going out for a meal, aren't we, Elgan?"
and Gaynor immediately says that they are going out for a meal.
"But I've already ordered a takeaway"
“But I have already ordered a takeaway,” whines Angharad, and Gaynor replies that she did not have to do that.
Gaynor is reaching the end of her tether
Then there is a knock at the door, which is the takeaway;  Gaynor is furious.
DJ brings flowers for Non
DJ has taken some flowers for Non, saying it was the least he could do after the way he spoke to her yesterday.
"People will think I'm running away"
He maintains that people will think he is running away, but she points out he is simply going on a cruise with Dai and Diane.   “You deserve a holiday after everything you’ve been through – everyone thinks the world of you.”
"Why don't you come with us?"
“Why don’t you come with us?   There’s plenty of room,” he suggests,
"No, DJ, I don't like the sea"
but she explains that she does not like the sea.
"Right – I'll see you in a month, then"
“Right then – I’ll see you in a month,” he says, and leaves, with Non looking much happier.
"Can I ask you a favour?"
Sara hurries into the Deri, where she is about to ask Chester a favour,
"We've got to go and say goodbye!"
when Jason bursts in, telling her that they must go and say goodbye to Mam, Dai – and now DJ.
"I'll work more hours if you want"
Chester can see what is coming, and offers to work more hours if Sara wants;
"Thanks, Chester – I promise I'll look after you!"
she is very grateful and promises to look after him.   As they hurry off to say goodbye,
"There – she's going to 'look after' me!"
Chester gloats, “She’s going to ‘look after’ me,” which makes Ed smile.
"I was doing it for you, you know"
Kelly comes in rather quietly and assures Ed, “I was doing it for you, you know.   I wanted you to have a clean slate, to banish the ghost of Sioned for ever.”
"Sioned who?"
He looks puzzled and asks, “Sioned who?   She doesn’t cross my mind any more, so please stop worrying.   I will just have to get used to wearing shades.”
Ed kisses Kelly
He kisses her.
"Not another bottle, Elgan!"
Gaynor objects to Elgan opening another bottle of wine, and Angharad admires her dress;
"That's what you should do with this room"
“I love pieces that make a statement – that’s what you should do with this room, too.   Be a bit more daring it looks rather sad.
Gaynor takes exception to her recommendations
“Livening the place up with colour would make a world of difference.”
Elgan realises that she is looking for a commission,
"The wall in some kind of violet"
and she goes on to suggest the wall in some kind of violet, with emerald green curtains;
"I'd love to give this place a proper makeover"
“I’d love to give this place a proper makeover – and Elgs agrees with me!”
Gaynor is quite happy with the place as it is, but Angharad describes it as rather safe and middle-aged;
"Living dangerously is a lot more fun, isn't it, Elgs?"
“Living dangerously is a lot more fun, isn’t it, Elgs?”
Diane is saying her goodbyes
Diane is bidding farewell to Ifan
Non brings a couple of books for DJ
when Non arrives at Bryntirion, bringing a couple of books for DJ to read on the cruise.   Dai is in a tremendous hurry to leave, and Jason promises that the ship will sail without them, if they do not get a move on.
"Bon voyage"
When Non and DJ are left alone, she wishes him bon voyage;
He gives her a very hesitant kiss
he, rather uneasily, gives her a peck on the cheek and they leave the house.
"How did she wangle having dinner with us again?"
As they do the washing-up, Gaynor asks, “Remind me how she managed to wangle having dinner with us again?”   He maintains that she is good company,
"I'm going to call her a taxi!"
but Gaynor snarls, “All she does is witter on about makeovers – I’m going to call her a taxi!”
Walking into in the lounge, she says, “Angharad, thank you for a lovely night and thank you for the food, but . . .”
Angharad appears to be fast asleep . . .
Then she finds that their guest appears to be fast asleep on the sofa.   Elgan discourages Gaynor from waking her;
. . . so they cover her with a blanket
instead they cover her with blanket and creep quietly up to bed, commenting that they do not want any ‘anguish’ if she wakes up.
But she soon comes back to life . . .
As soon as they are out of the room, Angharad opens her eyes, looks around the place,
. . . sprays some perfume around . . .
retrieves a small bottle from her handbag, sprays the contents around herself,
. . . and appears to be plotting something
and looks decidedly conspiratorial.
