23 July 2018

Kath has overslept
Kath is hurrying towards Awyr Iach, and is apologising to Sara that she slept late this morning;  “I don’t usually work on Saturday mornings – if you hadn’t phoned me, I would have been there by now!”
The salon has not yet been opened
She walks past the salon, which is still showing a ‘closed’ sign.
Chester continues to impress Sara
Inside Awyr Iach, Sara is complimenting Chester on his fast and efficient work;  “At least I can rely on one member of staff!” she comments,
"We've all got to pull our weight"
and he replies that they should all pull their weight if the order is going to be finished by Monday.
"Afternoon, Kath!"
Then Kath rolls in, and Sara goes out to the salon, asking Chester to keep an eye on the place.
This does not go down well with Kath, who complains, “You’re not leaving him in charge? I’ve been here longer!” but she is told she will get responsibility when Sara thinks she is ready.
"Coffee with one sugar, please Kath!"
Chester asks Kath for a coffee with one sugar, then Ed walks in,
"Only for five minutes, while Lady Francis is out"
remarking that Chester has been promoted, but Kath snarls, “Only for five minutes, while Lady Francis is out!”   Ed asks for a price list, as Kelly is thinking of getting new T-shirts for the café.
Then the phone rings, and as Chester is answering it, Kath describes him as, “A bootlicker!”
"Chester thinks Sara fancies him"
Ed tells her that Chester thinks Sara fancies him,
"What – a little boy like him? . . ."
which makes Kath laugh at the very thought of her being interested in a little boy like him,
". . . but thanks for the information"
and she thanks Ed for the information.
Sara finds the salon closed . . .
Sara knocks on the door of the salon, and peers in through the window;  then she sees Gethin approaching
. . . and asks Gethin if he has seen Sheryl
and asks if he has seen Sheryl.   “What do you expect me to do?   Cut it myself?” he replies, and walks away.
She spots Hywel, ordering a strong black coffee
Then she espies Hywel in the café, as he orders a strong black coffee from Gwen;  Sara asks him the same question.
"We've split up, don't forget!"
“Have you been hiding away?   We’ve split up, don’t forget!” he replies, rather irritably, “Have you asked Gethin?”
"It's not good enough, not opening the salon!"
Sara complains that it is not good enough, and she could have phoned to apologise.
"That's her style – letting people down!"
“That’s her style – letting people down!” groans Hywel.
He confides to her that he has felt better, but has to carry on for Esther’s sake;  she is enjoying herself at the playgroup.   He adds that he is going for full custody,
"You can't use her to punish Sheryl"
but Sara insists that he cannot use Esther to punish Sheryl.
"My daughter is not going to live with him!"
“I’m not punishing anyone – but my daughter is not going to live with him!”
"I thought Sheryl wanted nothing to do with Gethin"
She says that the last she heard, Sheryl did not want anything to do with Gethin, but Hywel comments that Sheryl does not stay single for very long;  “She’ll go back to him, and when she does, Esther will be much better off with me.”
"Your coffee, Chester"
Kath brings Chester the coffee he asked for,
"Can you finish those before Sara gets back?"
and he says that it would be a nice surprise for Sara if Kath finished those items before she gets back.
"She'd prefer a surprise from you"
“I think she’d prefer to get a surprise from you, not me,” Kath tells him, “Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed – the way she flirts with you.   She’s got a real soft spot for you – she doesn’t have to say anything – it’s obvious.
"It's embarrassing, a woman her age!"
“It’s embarrassing, actually, a woman her age.”   Chester’s response is that she is being ridiculous.
"Didn't she leave a note on the salon door?"
In the Deri, Dani is surprised that no note has been left on the salon door;  “That is not like Sheryl!   I’ll cut it for you – I am a hairdresser – it’s just that I haven’t done it for a while.”
"I'd rather have someone who knows what they are doing"
Sara says that she would rather have someone who knows what they are doing.
Dani does not like the idea of the salon letting her down, so she offers Sara a 10% discount, which Sara manages to increased to 20%.
"Fine, in a quarter of an hour"
“Fine, in a quarter of an hour,” Dani agrees.
"This should keep your fancy woman happy"
It appears that Kath has actually been doing some work, and remarks, “That should keep your fancy woman happy,”
"Our relationship is professional"
but Chester insists that their relationship is a professional one.   “I don’t think the way she looks at you is very professional – I’d watch out, if I were you,” she warns him.
Sara is back . . .
Then Sara arrives and Chester informs her that the customer from Llanelli confirmed his order, which has all been sorted out.
. . . and once more is praising Chester
“The best thing I did was to employ you,” Sara tells him, enthusiastically.
Sheryl will not answer her phone
Now Dani is outside the salon, trying to phone Sheryl, but with no success;  she leaves a message, “Look, I know you’ve got a lot on your mind, but you can’t let people down like this.   I told Sara I would cut her hair, but I don’t think she’s very happy, so when you get this message, just come down, please.”
Dani lets herself into the salon . . .
She unlocks the salon door, then sees that the door up to the flat is unlocked;  she pushes it, but something prevents it from opening.
. . . but is petrified by what she sees . . .
She peers around the door, and is horrified by what she sees –
. . . the motionless body of Sheryl
the motionless figure of Sheryl, lying at the foot of the stairs.
She calls for Ed's help . . .
She rushes out of the door in a panic and shouts for help;  Ed is cleaning the chippy window, and comes to her assistance.   Dani has difficulty in describing what has happened, and Sara hurries across.
. . . and is hardly able to speak
“Sheryl!” Dani gasps,
Then Ed also makes the appalling discovery . . .
and Ed looks inside the door;
. . . and can detect no vital signs
he feels for a pulse, but there is none.
"Sheryl!"
Sara pushes her way in, and screams, “Sheryl!”
Chester tries to ignore Kath
Kath continues winding up Chester;  “Do you want a tip from Auntie Kath?   You play your cards right with Sara, and boom – promotion!”
Kath's impression of Sara
She has arranged some shredded paper on her head, and continues, in a simpering voice, “Oh, Chester, you’re such a good little worker.   Come on, Kath, you can’t do anything right. Why can’t you be more like Chester?”
She soon whips it off her head when Sara comes in
Then she suddenly realises that Sara is in the doorway, watching this charade,
"Are you all right, Sara?"
but she says nothing and is in tears.
"It's Sheryl – she's dead!"
“It’s Sheryl,” she sobs, “She’s dead!”
"Cup of tea with lots of sugar, Kath!"
Chester instructs Kath to make her a cup of tea with a lot of sugar,
"No – we're closing – I want to go home!"
but Sara is adamant that she is closing Awyr Iach – she just wants to go home.
The emergency services have arrived . . .
The police and an ambulance have arrived in the High Street;  Ed wants to take Dani home, as there is nothing she can do here,
. . . and Dani says she has to tell Hywel
but she answers that she is not leaving Sheryl.   “I have to tell Hywel,” she insists, but he urges her to leave it to the police, pointing out that she is not in any state to tell him.
"Why don't we have fish fingers and chips?"
At that moment Hywel is discussing with Esther what she wants for lunch;  “I know – why don’t we have fish fingers and chips?”
Esther is in favour of this
which she seems to be quite happy about.   “I want you to know, whatever happens between Mami and Dadi, it might look as if we don’t like each other much sometimes,
"I love you more than ever!"
“but I love you more than ever!”
Dani is the bearer of bad tidings
Then he answers a knock at the door;
"There's been an accident"
Dani says, very hesitantly, “Hywel, there’s been an accident.
"She was just lying there"
“Sheryl . . . she was just lying there at the bottom of the stairs.   There was nothing I could do.”
"Have you phoned for an ambulance?"
He demands if she has phoned for an ambulance, but she continues, “It’s too late, Hywel!”   He rushes out of the house, asking Dani to look after Esther.
The locals have gathered . . .
By this time, quite a crowd has gathered out in the street,
. . . and Hywel barges through them . . .
and Hywel barges his way through them,
. . . before being restrained by the police
but is restrained by two police constables.
Sheryl's body is covered
He watches as the body of Sheryl is covered.
Sara just wants Jason home
At number 9, Sara is in quite a state, and is trying to contact Jason.   She leaves a message, “Ifan is fine, but I just want you home!”
Chester checks if she is all right . . .
Chester arrives, to check that she is all right, and says that Hywel is over there now, in a right state.
“Listen, if you want to be on your own, I’ll go,” he adds,
. . . and she would like him to stay
but Sara replies that it would be nice to have some company.
"I was going to make fish fingers and chips"
Hywel returns to the house, with Ed, and Dani informs him that Esther is playing upstairs.
"Someone has to contact Rhiannon and Julie"
He insists that someone has to phone Rhiannon and Julie, and that Darren needs to tell Wil.   Ed offers to do that for him, and Dani proposes to take Esther over to the Deri for lunch,
"No, Esther is staying with me!"
but Hywel is determined that she will stay with him.
". . . and I'd like you to leave now!"
He also wants them both to leave, and then there is another knock at the door,
A police constable arrives
this time one of the policemen.
Gethin has come upon the scene . . .
Outside, Dani sees Gethin approaching;  he wonders what is going on and demands where Sheryl is.
. . . and witnesses the body being removed
At that moment, her body on a stretcher is being removed from the house, and Gethin rushes forward, but is restrained by Dani.   He runs into the Deri, with her close behind.
Sara is full of self-recrimination
Sara says that she should have helped Sheryl:  “I was more concerned about my hair than I was about her.   It never crossed my mind that something had happened to her.   The thought of her lying there, while I was knocking outside – perhaps she could hear me, but couldn’t shout for help.”
Chester puts an arm round her
Chester puts an arm around her to comfort her, and she thanks him for coming over;  “I don’t think I could have coped on my own,”
"I want to be here"
and he assures her that he wants to be here.   She looks at him, and he takes this as a sign that she wants him to kiss her.
"What do you think you're doing?"
However this is a serious misinterpretation, and she demands what he is doing;  “I honestly thought you were worried about me –
"I was trying to make you feel better"
“now I know what you wanted!”   He argues that he was trying to make her feel better,
"Snogging a teenager?   Really?"
but she scoffs at the idea of snogging a teenager,
He is more than willing to comply with her wishes
and emphatically tells him to go away.
Gethin frantically paces up and down
Up in the Deri flat, Gethin is pacing up and down, demanding how long Sheryl had been there, and whether she was breathing;  “Perhaps you could have saved her – had she been in pain?   You were there!

Gethin is distraught
“She can’t just go like this,” he wails,

"I have to go and see her!"
“I have to go and see her – I’m going to the hospital – I have to do something –
"I want to be with her!"
“I must go – I want to be with her!”
Dani hugs him
Dani hugs him.
The constable leaves Hywel . . .
The police constable leaves Hywel’s house, offering his condolences once again;
. . . who breaks down in floods of tears
inside the door, Hywel breaks down in floods of tears.
