Eifion receives a note from Iolo . . .

Eifion looks at the morning post and one item puzzles him;  it is a hand-written note from Iolo, which reads, “Going to Cornwall for a break – you’re welcome to use the house if you need some space,” 

. . . together with the key to number 7

and a front door key is also included.

"I'm afraid we've had to cancel your appointment"

Dani is contacting customers of the salon to advise them that their appointments have been cancelled;  “There has been a death – 

"Sheryl has died!"

“it’s Sheryl who has died,” she sobs, 

Garry steps in  . . .

then Garry takes the phone from her and explains the circumstances.   

. . . and says that fresh arrangements will be made

He says that Dani will be in touch with the new arrangements in due course.

He insists that he will help her to contact the clients, 

"How about we have a little celebration for Sheryl tonight?"

and then Gethin comes in and suggests, “How about we have a little celebration for Sheryl in the Deri tonight?   So many of us are grieving, I think we should all come together,” 

"Just close friends"

but Dani wants to make it just close friends.

"Do you think you're the right person to organise this?"

Garry queries, “Do you really think you’re the right person to organise it?” but Gethin does not think that matters now – he wants to do it, as he loved Sheryl.

Debbie is in the shop and complains about the price of things these days;  

Eifion is racing ahead with the emigration

when Cadno walks in with a case of instant noodles, she notices that beside the till, the laptop is open with an application to move to New Zealand on the screen.   

"You're moving too fast, Eifion!"

“You’re moving too fast, Eifion!” she tells him, “We haven’t discussed it properly yet – we need to take it one step at a time.   The first step is you seeing the doctor – I’m worried because you’re so desperate to go, and I want to make sure you’re mentally sound.”   

"I know we could be happy there!"

He protests that he knows they could be happy there.

Cadno does not dispute this, but is adamant that she is not rushing into it;  “Go and see the doctor, and we’ll see how you are in a few weeks.”

Garry contacts the salon's clients

Garry is going through the list of appointments, and consults Carol on which he should contact next;  

He asks for Carol's opinion

“You can decide, Beautiful,” he says, and Dani muses that perhaps they should change her name to Beautiful.   

"I never hear you using her name"

“I never hear you using her name,” and when he says that is not true, she asks, “Which name is that?   Cariad, Beautiful, Seren (star)?   We never call her Carol, do we?   She’s going to have this name for the rest of her life – 

"What if she asks why we called her Carol?"

“what if she asks one day why we called her Carol?”

Debbie is in a much better mood today

Debbie visits Mr Davies again, and this time she is in a much better humour;  “Vicky and the rest were in the pub – we had a real send-off!” she tells him, 

"Why don't you share my meal?"

and he is very pleased.   He invites her to share his meal, and as he is her last client today, she agrees.

Hywel is in the café . . .

Hywel is sitting in the café when Gethin comes in 

. . . when Gethin comes in for a tuna melt

and asks Gwen for a tuna melt;  

"I didn't invite you to sit there!"

then he speaks to Hywel, who does not appreciate him sitting opposite.   

"We're having a get-together in memory of Sheryl"

“We’re having a get-together in the Deri tonight in memory of Sheryl.   I’d like you to come,”

“You’ve got a nerve – to organise something for Sheryl!” Hywel snarls, and Gethin replies that he and she loved each other at one time.   

"Do you have any idea how much I want to punch you?"

“Do you have any idea how much I want to punch you right now?” Hywel demands, and is told that one day he may get the opportunity.

"How about we take some time out?"

Gethin goes on, “But today, how about we take time out to show some respect, and how much we all loved her?   A chance to share stories, remember and laugh – I think Sheryl would like that, don’t you?”   

Hywel commendably restrains himself

Then Gethin gets up and leaves him, which is probably just as well as Hywel looks quite capable of delivering that punch right now.

Debbie fetches two glasses from the kitchen, 

Mr Davies' money reserve 

and is asked to bring the big jar, containing money, from the cupboard, as the milkman will arrive in a minute and has to be paid.   As she picks up the jar, she looks seriously tempted.

"Are you enjoying your new job?"

Iori asks how she is enjoying her new job, and she replies, “Until a month ago I had my own business – the café in Cwmderi.”   
He knows Cwmderi very well and wonders what happened.   She says that she made a few bad decisions;  “But that’s the story of my life – I always mess up in the end!   I never imagined I’d end up doing this job.   Don’t get me wrong, but not all my clients are like you.   

"I was telling Mark how nice you are"

“I was telling Mark last night how nice you are.”

Iori realises that this cannot be her dream job, and wonders who Mark is;  when she tells him Mark Jones, her partner, he is amazed.   

"Mark and Kath Jones?   You're all survivors!"

“Mark and Kath Jones?   Don’t worry, things are about to get better for you and the family – you’re all survivors – always have been!”   

Debbie's mind seems to be on other things

Debbie cannot resist a glance at the jar of money.

Eifion has been to see the doctor . . .

It appears that Eifion has actually been to the surgery, and looks at the packet of tablets he has been prescribed;  

. . . but when he sees Cadno, he hides

he sees Cadno putting some rubbish in the bin and hides.   Standing by the bus stop, he gets out his phone and makes a call;  

"I can't bear not seeing you!"

“I can’t bear not seeing you,” he says, “I’m on my way to Iolo’s and Tyler’s place – will you come over?” 

Debbie fetches the money jar . . .

As Debbie is leaving Mr Davies’ house, the milkman rings the front doorbell, and he asks her to get the jar of money;  

. . . and pays Guto, the milkman, £15

Iori asks her to give Guto, the milkman, £15, and then she goes.   

"Give my regards to Kath and Mark"

He sends his regards to Kath and Mark.

"I can't live like this any more!"

Alun wastes no time in getting to number 7;  Eifion confesses that he cannot live like this any more.   “Every word I tell Cadno is a lie – she knows that something’s wrong and she is being so nice – I feel so guilty when I see her trying so hard.”

"It's time to tell the truth, Eifion!"

Of course, Alun’s advice is that it is time to tell her the truth;  “Perhaps everyone would be better off if I wasn’t here any more,” Eifion laments, 

"At least, they wouldn't have to live with the shame"

“At least, Cadno and the boys wouldn’t have to live with the shame!”   Alun points out that he is gay, not a mass murderer.

“I’m so scared of the thought of telling her the truth,” Eifion admits, 

"I don't know how to tell her"

but is told that he could just carry on, as he has been doing for years.   “I know I have to tell her the truth – I just don’t know how.”

Dani looks into the legalities

Dani has been doing some research, and finds, “It’s easy to change a child’s name if both parents agree.”   She has been thinking of classy names, such as Charlotte or Grace.   

"Or something really Welsh – Erin"

“Or if you want something really Welsh, Erin.”

Cadno cannot find Eifion again

Cadno comes in, looking for Eifion, but they have not seen him;  she is worried as he is not answering his phone.

"It would be easier to get caught"

At number 7, Eifion confesses, “The day I saw you talking to Cadno in the village, although it was such a shock, part of me felt it would be easier to get caught, rather than having to tell her – at least all the deceit would be over.”   Alun warns that it would have been much worse if she found out by accident.   

"It's not fair having to live with these lies!"

He whines, “It’s not fair having to live with these lies,” so he is asked if he is going to tell her tonight, and replies that there is no point waiting.   He just hopes she will be reasonable about the children.   

"It will be a shock to her"

Alun says that it will be shock and she will need time to process it all.   There is nothing else he can say so he leaves, reminding Eifion that it is all up to him now.   

"Antidepressants?   You won't find the answer there"

On his way out of the back door he notices the packet of antidepressants, and warns that Eifion will not find the answer in them.

"Won't you be too hot in that, Cariad?"

As Dani is about to take Carol for a walk, Garry wonders, “Won’t you be too hot in that cardigan, Cariad?  [Love]” and Dani considers the name Cariad, or even Seren again.   

"She is my little star!"

He says that Carol is his little star, 

They appear to have reached agreement

and they both agree that her name should be changed to Seren [Star].

Cadno loses her temper with Eifion . . . 

Cadno is still worrying about him when Eifion returns to the shop flat;  she is not interested in his explanation.   

. . . and points out they are both in this together

“I’ve had enough, depressed or not.   We’ve both lost the farm – we’re both trying to make a go of it in the shop – and we’re both parents!”

"There's something I need to tell you"

He assures her that he is sorry, but there is something he needs to tell her;  “This isn’t easy,” he begins, “I should have told you a long time ago – 

"I've always loved you"

“I want you to know I’ve always loved you, and I’d never deliberately hurt you!”

"Who is she – this other woman?"

“You haven’t changed at all, have you?” Cadno rages, “The disappearing acts, the moods, always on the phone – “who is she, this other woman?   I should have recognised the signs – it’s not the first time!   I’m not going to forgive you this time!   

"You're never going to see the boys again!"

“If you’ve made a fool of me, you’re never going to see the boys again!   You stopped me from marrying DJ!   Why – just so you could cheat on me?”

"I swear there is no other woman!"

He swears that there is not another woman, so she demands what it is, then, and where he has been.   He chickens out of admitting the truth, 

He mantains he was going to 'disappear' . . . 

and comes up with an explanation that he has been feeling more depressed than he admitted;  “Today I was going to catch a train to anywhere and just disappear!”

. . . which she interprets as killing himself

Cadno suspects that he intended to kill himself, but he says that she would be better off without him.   

"Don't you ever think that, do you hear me?"

“Don’t you ever think that, do you hear me?” she orders him, “Neither losing the farm or anything else is worth that – the boys would never get over it – 

"I would never get over it!"

“and neither would I!”

She apologises for what she said a few minutes ago;  

"It's so hard keeping it together!"

“I was angry, and it’s so hard keeping it together!”   

He alleges that he is going to sort himself out

He maintains that he is going to sort himself out, somehow, as has he has too much to lose.

"Half of lager, please, Dani"

Debbie arrives in the Deri, and orders a half of lager;  

The sight of a £20 note makes her think of Iori

she takes a £20 note from her purse and looks at it quizzically, muttering, “Iori.”

Dani informs her that her lager is on the house, and they are having a drink in memory of Sheryl.   

Ffion orders an orange juice

Ffion comes in and orders an orange juice;  Gethin is pleased to see her there, 

"There's no sign of Hywel"

and she recalls all the arguing and everything that happened, but notices there is no sign of Hywel, which Gethin finds disappointing.

"We have come together to remember Sheryl"

Garry announces, “We all know why we’re here – we felt as a family that we needed to come together to remember Sheryl.”   

Hywel has actually come

At that moment, Hywel enters, and gives a nod to Garry, who advises that Hywel would like to say a few words.

"When Gethin asked me, I almost lost my temper"

Hywel begins, “When Gethin asked me to come tonight, I almost lost my temper.   

"Then I realised how pathetic I was being"

“You all know our history – I was angry that he thought he had the right to organise something like this.   But then I realised how pathetic I was being.   

The customers listen attentively . . .

“It doesn’t matter how much we argue and quarrel, nothing is going to change the fact that Sheryl’s gone.”

. . . but then another figure arrives

As he is speaking, the door opens and DI Davies comes in, accompanied by a constable.   

"Forgive me for interrupting, Mr Llywelyn"

“Forgive me for interrupting, but Mr Llywelyn, 

He is required at the police station

“can you come to the station to answer a few questions, please?”

Garry asks whether it can wait, 

"The post mortem shows that she was killed deliberately"

but the DI is insistent, “No, I’m afraid not.   The nature of the investigation into Sheryl’s death has changed.   The post-mortem shows that she was killed deliberately.   Sheryl was murdered!”   

This news is greeted with incredulity . . .

Hywel, 

. . . by all those present

and everyone else there, is dumbstruck.
