Wendy will have to go back to Swansea . . .

Wendy is at Y Felin, telling Siôn that she will have to go back to Swansea before long; “Steve is coming to the station to get the cash –

. . . and wants the money

“are you OK to go and get it now?” He says he will have a cup of tea with her first, to say goodbye.

"You had no right to tell Gaynor"

Then there is a frantic knocking at the door; Dani bursts in and shouts, “You had no right – telling Gaynor that Tyler lied about his maths GCSE!

"He could lose his job!"

“He could lose his job!”

"I didn't do that!"

Once again, Wendy denies that she did that, then Dani turns to Siôn, and demands, “Has she told you that she is a homophobe as well? She said horrible things about Iolo and Tyler.”

"I said nothing of the sort!"

Of course, Wendy says that this is rubbish,

"You've come here to get the money, haven't you?"

and then it suddenly dawns on Dani that she has come here to ask Siôn for the money. He looks shocked, and leaves them alone to talk for a minute.

"Tyler could lose everything!"

“Why did you do it? Tyler could lose everything,” Dani says,

"Tyler's the one in the wrong"

but her mother insists that he is the one in the wrong. “I want you to leave Cwmderi,” Dani growls, but Wendy does not intend to leave until she gets the money,

"Are you giving to to me, then?"

and demands whether Dani is going to give it to her. “I’m going to book you a taxi, and you’re leaving – do you hear?”

She has no intention of leaving

Her mother simply laughs.

"I almost got the grade, Iolo!"

Tyler makes excuses to Iolo; “I never even think about it – and I almost got the grade, anyway.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Iolo is aggrieved that he was not told, but Tyler says it is not something he is proud of, and knew that Iolo would understand and support him. Iolo had enough on his plate at the time with the OCD.

"I'm paying the price now, aren't I?"

“Well, I’m paying the price now, aren’t I?” he laments, “I’m about to lose everything!” and Iolo points out that not only he will lose everything – it could ruin the adoption process for them.

"You have to speak to Gaynor!"

“You have to speak to Gaynor and persuade her not to report you,” is Iolo’s considered advice; Tyler pleads with him not to say that he has had enough. “Talk to Gaynor – that’s all that matters now!” he is told, and says he will do it now.

"Not until I get the money!"

The taxi has arrived at Y Felin, but Wendy is determined that she is not going, until she gets the money. Dani insists that she will not get a penny, as this is her mistake.

"You always favoured your father rather than me"

“It’s funny, isn’t it?” muses Wendy, “The way you’ve always taken against me, and been so ready to give your father a chance. I know why you can’t stand me – deep down you know how similar we are – I wasn’t the only one who did a bad job of raising children.

"You messed up raising Liv!"

“You messed up raising Liv! Look at the damage you did – that girl’s off the rails!”

"She was not my daughter!"

Dani points out that Liv was not her daughter to raise, but Wendy maintains that she should focused less on the boyfriends, and taken better care of her little sister.

"You were whoring yourself around Swansea!"

“I was 12 years old!” Dani screams, “I ironed her clothes, cooked her meals – while you were whoring yourself around Swansea! Carol is going to have everything I didn’t.”

Wendy simply demands the money, again, then Dani will never have to see her mother again; “That’s what you really want, isn’t it?”

"What else has he lied about?"

Gaynor is speaking to Elgan about Tyler; “What else has he lied about?” she wonders.

Tyler wants to explain to Gaynor

Then Tyler arrives, pleading for five minutes of her time; Elgan leaves them alone to talk.

Mark and Kath arrive at the allotment . . .

Kath has dragged Mark along to the allotment,

. . . where her onions are pathetic . . .

and is disappointed to see that her onions are very much inferior to those of Diane next door;

Look who is approaching

“No-one takes better care of their onions than me,” she insists.

She executes a quick exchange

She exchanges the two buckets of onions,

"You can't do that, Mam!"

and takes no notice of Mark, who objects to her action.

"Hey, what are you doing?"

Jim is approaching, and witnesses what she is doing;

"After all that nonsense with Owen Hughes' vegetables"

“You promised not to do that, after all that nonsense with Owen Hughes’ vegetables!”

"Nothing to do with me!"

Mark keeps well out of the argument.

"There must be another way of dealing with this"

At Llwyncelyn, Tyler appreciates that Gaynor has to do her job, but there must be another way of dealing with this.

“My duty is to the pupils and the governors,” she replies, “I cannot keep this secret – you misled the school – you told lies!”

He argues that he did not quite get the grade, but was close.

"I could lose everything!"

“Please, Gaynor, I could lose everything!” However she is quite determined to do what is right for the school.

"But what is right for Greta?"

“What about what is right for Greta?” he asks, “We could have problems adopting her, if I have to leave school – what will happen to her then? I knew that it would end up like this –

"A boy from Townhill is always going to be dragged back"

“a boy from Townhill is always going to be dragged back in the end – if only I’d swotted a bit harder. I know you’re not going to like hearing this,

"I was determined to leave that place"

“but I’m not annoyed I told a lie – I was determined to do anything I could to leave that place.

“Liv was running riot, Mam was constantly brought home by the police, arrested for being drunk and disorderly. One white lie seemed worth it at the time to move on. My job is not my main concern any more – it’s Greta.”

Gaynor agrees to keep quiet . . .

This has changed Gaynor’s mind, and she agrees to keep quiet, because she does understand how stressful the adoption process is, and it is Greta’s well-being that matters right now. “But I feel ill at ease about it.”

. . . and he hugs her

Tyler hugs her in gratitude, and assures her that he will deal with his mother.

"Why did he keep secrets from me?"

Iolo is at home, asking his father why Tyler kept secrets from him; Siôn wonders whether all husbands know everything about their partners,

"It was for his career and future"

and points out that Tyler did what he did for his career and his future. “I’m not saying it’s right, but it means that he’s given Greta the best start possible.”

"He's ruined all that now!"

Iolo fears that he might have ruined all that now.

"Let's wait until he comes back"

“Why don’t we just wait for Tyler to come back, and see what he has to say?” suggests Siôn. Iolo recalls what Wendy said,

Tyler reports that he is 'off the hook'

then Tyler returns with the good news that Gaynor has agreed not to take the matter any further. They are both extremely relieved, but when Tyler hears that Dani is not back, he heads over to Y Felin.

"You're doing the right thing"

Elgan reassures Gaynor that she is doing the right thing, and must stop dwelling on it now. “It takes a remarkable woman to consider the person and not the rules,” he announces,

"A headmistress with a big heart"

“You have proved that you’re a headmistress with a big heart – and not some unfeeling robot.

Gaynor does not fancy going running

“Why don’t we go for a run later? We said we were going to start after watching that FFIT Cymru programme. It will help clear your head – I’ll get my running shoes.”

Mark is fed up with the allotment already

At the allotment, Mark wants to go home, as he is starving; Jim demands that Kath tells the truth about Diane’s onions,

"I didn't do anything, Jim"

but she still denies any deceit.

"Some of this will make them grow"

Seeing a sprayer nearby, she alleges that applying some of the contents will make the onions grow.

"We're not allowed to use chemicals"

Jim protests that chemicals are not allowed, but agrees to go along with the idea if she will share her winnings with him.

"Now if we share the winnings . . ."

He predicts that they should make quite a bit of money.

Meanwhile, Mark has put away his deckchair, and when he hears them plotting, tells them there is nothing stopping him from reporting them. He dismisses the whole thing as a load of nonsense.

"I shall have to stay in that case"

Dani has sent away the taxi, so Wendy concludes she will have to stay;

"Why did you do it?"

just then Tyler walks in and demands what is wrong with his mother. “Why did you do it? Go out of your way to ruin everything for me?”

"It's only right the truth should come out!"

She replies that it is only right that the truth should come out.

“I’ll go, if you want – just give me the money!” she goes on, “It would be for the best or I’ll make sure that Steve knows that he has to come after you to get his money.

Tyler reluctantly agrees to pay up

Tyler finally capitulates, and Wendy triumphantly informs him, “£600 – I’ll accept cash or a bank transfer.”

Tyler realises if that is the price to get rid of her, he regards it as a bargain.

"How about a bit of Miracle-Gro?

Jim realises that they are not allowed to use chemicals, but a little Miracle-Gro would give the onions a boost.

Gaynor and Elgan stop for a breather

Elgan and Gaynor have just reached the allotments on their run, and stop for a breather; he informs her that there is a running club starting in Llanarthur,

Gaynor is unenthusiastic

but she is not very enthusiastic. “Are you worried you’re not fit enough?

"Shall we go for it?"

“Shall we go for it?”

They have noticed what Jim and Kath are up to

Then they shout across to Jim and Kath; “Is that stuff meant to be used in this competition?” wonders Elgan, “It would not be very fair on Diane, would it?”

"I'm not using that!"

Kath denies that she was using it, and Jim warns the doctor,

"You stick to treating patients!"

“You stick to treating patients, and keep your nose out of our gardening competition!” Elgan replies that he might have to have a word with Siôn and Kelly.
