"You can't take responsibility for something you didn't do!"

Dani tells Gethin that she knows he is upset, but he cannot do this; “Take responsibility for something you didn’t do –

"Hywel killed Sheryl!"

“Hywel killed Sheryl!”

"You suspected Garry"

He gets up from his seat and says, “Until yesterday you suspected Garry,”

"Only because of his strange behaviour"

and she explains it was because of his strange behaviour for weeks.

"I've managed to keep it under control until today"

“I’ve managed to keep it all under control until today,” Gethin continues, “Until Ffion spoiled my plans – she knows what I’m like – she knows when I’m hiding something – hiding what I did!” Dani says he must stop taking the blame for Hywel.

They sing the closing hymn

In the chapel, they are singing another hymn;

“I hear Thy welcome voice,

That calls me, Lord, to Thee;

For cleansing in Thy precious blood,

That flowed on Calvary.”

"Ffion must be back on the pop!"

Debbie comments to Ed and Kelly, “Ffion must be back on the pop!” but Mark says she looked sober to him. Ed does not think that she smelt of booze,

"Or could she be telling the truth?"

and Debbie, rather fearfully, asks, “Do you think she was telling the truth?” Kelly considers that no way is Gethin the murderer.

"I framed Hywel"

Gethin continues his efforts to persuade Dani, “I framed Hywel – I planted the evidence in his house,” but she will not believe him.

"For once I'm telling the truth!"

“You can believe what you like, but for once I’m telling the truth!” he rages, “While I’m at it, you might as well hear the whole truth –

"I called round to see her"

“I called round to see her – I was angry. I’d just found out she was going to leave without telling me!”

Siôn's closing exhortation

At Bethania, Siôn says, “Now, before some of us move on to the cemetery, can I ask you all to be of comfort to Julie, and to ourselves as Sheryl’s friends, as we live one day to the next, to live with our happy memories, rather than this sad moment.”

"She was already lying at the bottom of the stairs"

Back in the Deri flat, Gethin goes on, “I didn’t have time to argue with her – she was already lying at the bottom of the stairs. She was still breathing – trying to talk as well.”

"I wanted to help her – to save her"

Dani imagines that he phoned for an ambulance to help her, and he admits, “That’s what I wanted to do – to help her – to save her.

"Then she said 'Hywel'!"

“But she looked at me – she looked into my eyes, and do you know what she said? ‘Hywel’! She was dying, Dan, and all she had on her mind was him!

"I lost my temper and hit her!"

“I lost my temper, and grabbed the first thing I could find – and I hit her! I hit her as hard as I could!”

Dani realises that this is the truth

Dani is absolutely dumbfounded, as he admits that he regretted it straightaway,

"Then it was too late – she'd gone!"

but by then it was too late – she was gone.

"So you've been lying all this time?"

Dani summarises, “So you’ve been lying all this time? You let me suspect Garry, you let me accuse him, you’ve been helping Julie, and comforting her – and worse than that, you’ve sent an innocent man to jail!”

He pleads that he did not know what to do;

"Do you think it's been easy for everyone else?"

“Confess – be honest!” she shouts, and he says that this has not been easy for him. “Do you think it’s been easy for everyone else?” Dani demands, “Sheryl’s family, friends, children? Do you think it’s been easy for them?

"Go to the police and confess!"

“You’ve got one thing left to do now – go to the police and confess!”

Gethin replies, “Not yet! I want to make everything right first!”

"How are you going to make everything all right?"

She demands how he is going to manage that – as Sheryl is dead, and being buried as they speak.

"Just give me a couple of hours, Dan!"

He begs that she give him a couple of hours, but she is adamant that he is not allowed to ask for anything – he is a murderer. She fetches her phone, but he snatches it from her.

Mark seems to have developed a one-track mind . . .

As they leave the chapel, Mark suggests to Debbie, “This is our chance – we can go back to the house for a few hours,” and she begins to think that he has a problem.

. . . but Debbie is more interested in the free food

She wants to have some food first, as she is starving. They see Gethin approaching from the direction of the Deri; he does not look as if he knows what he is doing.

Gethin definitely doesn't look quite himself

Kelly stops him and comments that she would not be impressed if Ffion did that to her, but he turns and runs away. Gaynor suspects that there is more to it than him just being upset;

"Someone somewhere is lying!"

“Didn’t you think that tribute was odd? All I know is that someone somewhere is lying!”

"It is time to bid farewell to Sheryl"

At the cemetery, the coffin has been lowered into the grave, and Siôn announces that it is time to bid farewell to Sheryl. “Let us all take some time to think of her, and to remember the good times. As we commit her body to the ground, we ask for Sheryl . . .”

"Oh, I'm sorry!"

At this point, Garry’s phone sounds, and he turns it off, apologising profusely. Siôn continues, “We ask for Sheryl to rest in peace. Amen.”

A symbolic pink rose

Julie throws a pink rose on to the coffin,

Someone is watching

and we become aware that Gethin is watching from under the trees in the distance.

"Garry phone me back . . ."

The phone call which caused the interruption was from Dani, and she leaves a message for Garry, “Please, when you get this message, phone me back! It’s important!

". . . Gethin killed Sheryl!"

“If you see Gethin, you have to stop him and hold on to him – he killed Sheryl!”

In the Deri, while subdued music is playing, Gaynor looks at some of the photos of Sheryl on display;

"That's the woman who stole your husband!"

Colin remarks that she is looking at pictures of the woman who stole her husband.

"It looks much worse than it is"

By the bar, Britt is trying to play down her injury; “It looks much worse than it is,” but Kelly says she looks as if she has gone 12 rounds in the boxing ring. “I slipped in the house – I wasn’t looking where I was going and tripped over Catrin’s school bag.”

"We both know his fists are the problem!"

Colin tells her, “You should be ashamed of yourself – blaming Catrin, when we both know that his fists are the problem!”

Chester brings more sandwiches

Chester is helping with the catering and brings another plate of sandwiches to the table, where Mark and Debbie are piling up their plates. Iolo protests that they should wait until Julie arrives,

Debbie and Mark are taking advantage of the food

but Mark predicts she will be in the cemetery for hours, and they are very hungry. Chester does not want to talk to his mother.

"Mam used to take a carrier bag to funerals"

Tyler recalls, “It reminds me of Mam – she used to take a carrier bag to funerals and steal food when no-one was looking.” Gaynor’s phone rings,

"You must get them to listen to you"

and she advises Rhys that he must insist they listen to both of them.

"Rhys has taken Ffion to the police"

She tells Ed that Rhys has taken Ffion to the police.

Julie kneels by the grave

In the cemetery, Julie kneels by the grave

"She's with Meilyr now"

and Siôn joins her, saying that Kath is waiting for her by the gate, but she is reluctant to leave Sheryl there. Siôn tells her that Sheryl is with Meilyr now, and they leave,

"How can I live without her?"

as Julie pleads, “How can I live without her?”

Garry listens to Dani's message . . .

Elsewhere in the cemetery, Garry is listening to the message from Dani;

. . . and looks very concerned

her insistence that Gethin killed Sheryl makes him look very determined.

He espies Gethin lurking in the undergrowth . . .

Gethin is still watching from his vantage point behind the bushes, and Garry catches sight of him, and a chase ensues,

. . . and vigorously gives chase

as he pursues Gethin through the cemetery, and they hurtle past Julie, Siôn and Anita, who look very puzzled.

Elgan has been called away

In the Deri, Gaynor receives a text from Elgan, who has been called out to a patient;

"He's missed the best bits already!"

Kelly comments, “He’s missed the best bits already!” Garry has obviously failed to catch Gethin,

"Iolo, you come with me, now!"

and rushes into the Deri, telling Tyler to go upstairs to Dani, and for Iolo to come with him – he does not have time to explain.

"We need to find Gethin, and fast!"

Outside, Garry says that they need to find Gethin – and fast. He will search round the back street, and sends Iolo along the High Street;

Garry looks in back gardens

Garry looks in the back gardens of the houses.

"She was full of mischief, like her Mam!"

Julie and Kath arrive in the Deri, and Britt tells of how Sheryl was full of mischief, just like her mother.

"Well, I'm glad that's over!"

Siôn is very glad that it is over; Anita found the screaming and shouting rather difficult,

"You went overboard with that eulogy!"

and remarks that he went rather overboard with his eulogy. Julie comes across and furiously demands, “How dare you say such a thing?

She is given a dressing-down by Julie

“If it wasn’t for you, Wil would have been there! You probably put ideas into his head and told him to stay away!”

"In case you forgot, she's just buried her daughter"

Kath points out that Julie is her friend, so the matter concerns her as well; “In case you forgot, she’s just buried her daughter!”

"We could slip away, if you like!"

Elsewhere, Mark points out that they could slip away now and no one would notice, but Debbie is enjoying the show, and stirs things up further by alleging, “I’m sure you contacted Kevin too – the swine sent flowers, pretending to sympathise!”

The onlooker watch the argument develop

Kath reminds Anita what he did to Sheryl,

"Who was the first to welcome Kevin from jail?"

and Julie asks who was the first to welcome him when he came out of jail, rubbing salt into Sheryl’s wounds.

"You're lying – just like your daughter used to!"

“I’m not going to let this one blacken my name!” shouts Anita, “You can stop lying – just like your daughter used to!” For Julie, this is the last straw;

She is rather surprised to have a drink thrown over her

she grabs a handy glass and throws its contents over Anita.

Britt, in her capacity as deputy landlord, decides that this has gone far enough and orders Anita out of the pub;

Britt ejects her from the Deri

“We’re here to remember Sheryl, so I won’t say it again!”

"I'm staying here – see you at home"

Anita stalks out, but Siôn refuses to accompany her, saying that he will see her at home.

"See – I told you it was worth staying!"

Debbie gleefully remarks, “See – I told you it was worth staying!”

"At least we'll be together again now"

Gethin drops to his knees beside Sheryl’s grave and tells her, “I’m sorry, Sher, I spoiled everything. You had such a bright future ahead of you – at least we’ll be together again now.”

He has a large amount of tablets

He takes from his pocket a bottle, full of tablets,

He phones Dani

then dials a number on his phone.

"You must go to the police, Gethin!"

Dani, in a very confused mood, sees his name on her phone and immediately answers it. She demands where he is, but he says, “I just want to apologise for everything.” She pleads with him to go to the police, but he simply continues, “I love you, Dan – more than you’ll ever know.

"The last thing I wanted to do was hurt you like this"

“The last thing I wanted to do was to hurt you like this,” but then the line goes dead.

"He's going to do something!"

She tells Tyler that he is going to do something and she must find him, but he insists that she let the others find him.

He touches the soil of the grave . . .

In the cemetery, Gethin puts his hand on the soil with which the grave has been filled,

. . . but is prevented from taking the tablets

then he takes a deep breath, opens the bottle and pours several of the tablets into his hand.

Suddenly, he is grabbed in a headlock by Garry, who snarls, “No – I don’t think so!” Gethin begs to be permitted to take them, but the reply is, “No – I want you to suffer –

"I want you to live with what you've done!"

“I want you to have to live with what you’ve done – and I hope you’ll live for a long time!

"I'll be there, waiting for you!"

“If they ever release you from jail, I’ll be there, waiting for you!”

Dragging Gethin to his feet,

"You will refuse to see Dani – understand?"

Garry goes on, “If you love Dani, I want you to refuse to see her – understand?”

He is consigned to the constabulary . . .

He roughly shoves Gethin in the direction of the two police officers who have come to arrest him,

. . . who handcuff him and take him away

and as they put the handcuffs on him, tells them, “Get him out of my sight!”

In the Deri, Britt tries to talk to Chester, but he makes it clear he does not want to talk.

"It's about time you had some respect for your mother!"

Colin angrily tells him that it is about time he had some respect for his mother, and Chester laughs, “Here we go – Superman to the rescue!”

Colin proclaims to the entire gathering

Colin decides that he has had enough, calls for attention and announces to all the assembled mourners, “Sorry, everyone – I know this isn’t the time, nor the place, but I can’t put up with any more lies!”

"Don't tell me he did it?"

“Don’t tell me he did it!” comments Kelly

"Britt didn't fall – Chester hit her!"

Colin goes on, “Britt didn’t fall – Chester hit her!” As all sorts of insults are hurled at Chester,

"Everybody – outside, now!"

Debbie urgently insists that everyone should come outside, now.

Gethin is led to a police car . . .

When they do so, they witness Gethin, in handcuffs, being led to a police car, with Garry following them. “This is better than half an hour in bed!” enthuses Debbie.
