20 August 2018

Jim tries to avoid Eifion . . .
Eifion closes the shop and notices Jim across the road, who hurries away;
. . . and Eifion looks worried
Eifion looks worried.
"She's probably teething"
In the Deri, Dani reports that Seren may be coming down with something, but Britt says that she is probably teething;
"You can bet I'll be up with her all night"
“You can bet I’ll be up with her all night,” moans Dani, “No rest for the wicked!”   Britt replies that the holiday is just what she needs.
"We're not going!"
Garry interrupts that they are not going, as the time is not right, and Britt agrees that it is probably for the best, in the circumstances.
"Happy now?"
Garry walks out of the bar, muttering, “Happy now?”
Jim is back from APD
Eileen is preparing vegetables for dinner when Jim returns home, after a hard day’s work;  his phone sounds,
"It might put you in a better mood"
and he is not happy to see that Eifion wants him to go for a pint.   Eileen advises him to go, as it might put him in better mood.
"What if he wants to talk about Friday afternoon"
“But what if he wants to talk about Friday afternoon?   I regret going anywhere near that flat!” Jim groans.   Eileen says there is no need for him to feel awkward,
"Well, perhaps I feel uncomfortable!"
but he replies, “Men aren’t used to talking about such personal matters – all right, perhaps I feel uncomfortable – I can’t help it!”
Eileen is sympathetic towards Eifion
“Think of Eifion, and what he’s going through – especially as today is Cadno’s birthday,” Eileen says, “Goodness knows what is going on in his head.   Go for a couple of pints with him, so he doesn’t feel so lonely –
"That's not much to ask, is it?"
“that’s not much to ask, is it?”
"Oh, perhaps you're right!"
Much against his will, Jim agrees.
Debbie boiling ham for dinner
At Maes-y-Deri, Debbie is boiling ham, a large piece of which Julie bought this morning,
"That smells good, Debs"
and Mark finds the aroma very enticing;  “She’s gone home to fetch more clothes, and won’t be back until later.”
"Postcard for Non"
Mark takes a postcard from his pocket for Non,
Non is rather angry
and she snatches it from him.
"Tell him to send you love letters instead"
Debbie maintains, “If you’re that sensitive about it, you should text him and telling to send you love letters, not postcards.”   Non wishes that she would stop making comments like that, but Debbie continues, undaunted, “In my experience, men don’t go to that much trouble for no reason.”   Non walks out, saying that DJ is not like that.
"We've got the house to ourselves"
Debbie is pleased to see that now they have the house to themselves, as Kath has gone to Bryntirion to water the plants,
"You could learn a few things about being romantic"
and says that Mark could learn a few things from DJ about being romantic.
Kath is in Dai's and Diane's bedroom  . . .
Meanwhile, Kath is preparing the bedroom in Bryntirion,
. . . where she takes some photos
gets out her phone and takes a few photos;  she looks pleased with herself.
Garry looks at the tribute page to Sheryl
Garry is looking on his phone at the tribute page of the Cwm Ni website, which features Sheryl Hughes;
There is tension between Dani and Garry
he hurriedly puts down the phone when Dani approaches.   The atmosphere between them seems rather fraught.
Sioned arrives to try and persuade Garry . . .
Sioned comes in and wants to talk to Garry, but he says it is not convenient;  she nevertheless goes on, “I know that Penrhewl’s reputation has taken a knock recently, but we’re determined to ensure that our produce is of the highest quality.”
. . . but he replies with an unequivocal "No!"
Before she can get any further, Garry tells her, “No!” and although she continues that they want to ask their old customers to give them another chance,
"Are you deaf or something?"
he demands, “Are you deaf or something?   Stop hassling me about trivial things!”
Sioned is becoming angry;
"It's your fault we're in this mess!"
“It’s your fault we’re in this mess – and it’s not trivial – it’s our livelihood!”   He snarls at her that at least she is alive;  “I don’t know what I saw in you!” she exclaims,
"And I wonder what I saw in you!"
and he replies that he asks himself that every time he sees her, and walks away.
Dani can see there is a problem
Dani wonders what is the matter with Garry, but then notices his phone, which he has left behind;
She takes the opportunity to check his phone . . .
as she looks at its history, which lists multiple visits to the tribute page of Cwm Ni,
. . . witnessed by Britt
Britt sees what she is doing.
Jim is very anxious
Jim comes in, very apprehensively, and sees that Eifion has already bought him a pint;
"I need to visit the toilet"
he makes the excuse he has to visit the toilet, and Eifion can see that he is very uneasy.
"You know what Garry can be like"
Sioned has found that the café has closed, and tells Non she is in no hurry to go back to the Deri;  “You know what Garry can be like!”
"Have you had a postcard from DJ?"
Non asks if she has had a postcard from DJ.   Sioned has not, but Non has had four;  Sioned tells her, “If he only wanted to say thanks for giving him the idea of going on the cruise, I would have got one, too.”
"I've had a fantastic idea!"
Kath interrupts the conversation;  “I’ve got something to discuss with you, Non – I’ve had a fantastic idea – we’re going to make so much money, we won’t have to worry about paying electricity bills, and there will be enough to send Ricky to university!
"We're going to rent out Bryntirion as a holiday home!"
“We are going to rent out Bryntirion as a holiday home!”
"Why would they let you keep the profits?"
Non wonders why Dai and Diane would allow them to keep the profit, and is told that they will not know about it.   “We put up a profile on the social media, and then take it down just before they come home.   But there’s one problem – I don’t understand these profile things.”
Non refuses to be involved in this scheme
Non is quite adamant that she does not want to be involved, and tells Kath to find someone else.
"Why were you snooping in Garry's phone?"
Dani is fretting in the Deri flat, and Britt asks her what is going on;  “Why were you snooping in Garry’s phone?
"Don't deny it – I saw you!"
“Don’t deny it – I saw you!”   Dani admits that something is wrong and that she is worried about Garry.
"He hasn't been himself since Sheryl died"
“He has not been himself since Sheryl died,” she says,
"They were very close once"
and Britt points out that he and Sheryl were very close, once, and he is good friends with Hywel.
"There's more to it, I know!"
However, Dani insists, “He has been to her tribute page loads of times – there is more to it, I know there is!”
"Why was he so desperate to go away?"
After hesitating, she goes on, “This business about the holiday – why was he so desperate to go away?   Why now?   He is hiding something – he lied to the police before he changed his story,
"What if this is a lie as well?"
“so what if this is a lie as well?”
"You think Garry had something to do with it?"
“You think Garry had something to do with Sheryl’s death?” demands Britt, incredulously.
"I heard what you said to Sioned!"
Jim comes back from the toilet and remarks to Garry, “Have you remembered how to smile yet?   I heard what you said to Sioned – look, we’ve all had a shock recently, and I know what grief is like, but believe me, taking things out on other people doesn’t help.
"Pick on someone your own size!"
“So, next time, pick on someone your own size!”
At last, Jim manages to sit down
Jim seems remarkably reluctant to sit down opposite Eifion;  he suggests that Jim could come over to the flat.   Jim is not keen, so Eifion proposes going for a meal instead, a curry perhaps.
"I think you know what I want to talk about"
“We could take it back to the flat, then we can have some peace to talk – I think you know what about.”
"We had better go somewhere more private"
Jim concedes that they should go somewhere more private.
"Maybe Hywel asked hm to get rid of her!"
“He’s suffering, really suffering – it’s as if he’s done something terrible,” Dani tells Britt, “Maybe Hywel asked him to get rid of her!”

"He couldn't have killed Sheryl"
Britt maintains that she is in shock, and knows how close she was to Sheryl;  she tries to convince Dani that Garry could not have killed Sheryl, and that she should stop being so suspicious.
"He thought it would do you good"
She is insistent that, “Garry wanted to go away with you for your sake – he thought it would do you good, after everything.   And he wanted to show you how important you are to him –
Did Garry really tell her this?
“he told me!”
It has reduced Dani to tears
By this time Dani is in tears;  Britt goes on, “It’s because you’ve lost your best friend – and because your brother is going through a terrible time – he was thinking of you.
Britt entreats Dani to trust Garry
“Look, Dani, things are hard enough as it is – you should trust Garry.   Don’t put yourself through more pain than necessary.”
"Enjoy yourself – but not too much!"
At Maes-y-Deri, Debbie is speaking to Ricky on the phone;  “Enjoy yourself – but not too much – I don’t want you getting arrested or anything!”
"We hardly get five minutes to ourselves"
Debbie wishes that she was somewhere far away with Mark, as they hardly get five minutes to themselves these days;
"We deserve some time just for us"
“After everything we’ve been through this year, we deserve some time just for us, as a couple – so we can have a laugh.”
Kath disturbs their antics
Mark can think of another way to make her laugh, and begins to tickle her, but then Kath and Non walk in.   “So this is what you two get up to when there is no-one else at home, is it?” demands Kath.
"You can't expect Garry to be reasonable"
Eileen tells Sioned that she cannot expect Garry to be reasonable, especially with her,
Sioned has had the same response from others
but Sioned reports that she had no luck with Anita either, who has got a new supplier for Tapas, and it was the same story at The Bull.
Jim informs Eileen of his movements
Eileen receives a text from Jim, “Going for a curry and back to the flat.”
"He's trying to cheer Eifion up"
She explains that he has had a quiet pint with Eifion to try and cheer him up,
"He got exactly what he deserved!"
but Sioned’s verdict is that Eifion got exactly what he deserved.
They admit that the ham was a great success
The Joneses have polished off a meal of home-cooked ham, which they greatly enjoyed, and Non volunteers to do the washing-up.
"Why don't we go to the Deri?"
Debbie suggests to Mark that they go to the Deri, but Kath reminds them that if they have any cash to spare, it should be put in the tin for the electric bill.   “It’s your boyfriend’s fault for giving it all to Ricky.
"We have to be careful now, or we'll be in trouble"
“We have to be careful now, or we’ll be in trouble.   Why don’t you go out for a walk in the park?
They might as well go to the park
“Make the most of these nights before it starts getting dark.”
"Having to go to university without a penny!"
After they have gone, Kath tells Non and she is used to money being tight, but she is worried about Non – and Ricky, having to go off to university without a penny.
Non is won over unbelievable easily
Non agrees to help her, as was Kath’s intention.
"That's a good whisky!"
At the shop flat, Jim is impressed by Eifion’s bottle of whisky, and they have a takeaway from Cwm Delhi.
“Listen, Jim, about last Friday,” Eifion begins,
"I must have been a shock to you!"
but Jim stops him to say that it must have been a shock, and he should not have left the way he did.
"I don't know what you think you heard . . ."
Eifion goes on, “I don’t know what you think you heard, but . . .”
"I didn't hear anything . . ."
Jim maintains that he did not hear anything;  he was not expecting Eifion back,
". . . it's just that I needed the toilet desperately!"
and needed the toilet desperately, as he had diarrhoea;  that is why he left so quickly, as he did not want to disturb them.   He could see that their meeting was important
“Anyway, I’m sorry if I disturbed you,” he summarises, “Business meeting, was it?”
"He was a financial adviser"
and Eifion continues with his financial advice story.
"I'm glad we've cleared the air"
“Well, I’m glad that we’ve cleared the air,” sighs Jim, “We’d better have this food.”
Eifion believes that he is in the clear
Eifion believes that he has got away with it.
Garry is again looking at his phone,
"We're all stressed, Gar"
and apologises to Dani for his behaviour earlier.   She replies that they are all stressed, and that she understands why he wanted to go away;
"I'll give it some thought"
she is willing to give it some thought, as perhaps it would do them some good.
Britt predicts that things will be easier after the funeral, which will not be until next week at the earliest, as they have not released her body yet.
Garry appears to be having a panic attack . . .
Garry seems to be suffering from a panic attack, and says he is going to change a barrel,
. . . and clutches his chest
but as soon as he is out of their sight, he appears to be hyperventilating, and clutches his chest.
