"How many times do I have to tell you?"

“I didn’t kill Sheryl – how many times do I have to tell you?” insists Ffion.

"I can't tell you how much I hate you!"

DI Davies does not believe her, and reads from the note, “I can’t tell you how much I hate you! You’re poison, and you destroy the lives of those around you!” Ffion is adamant that she was not going to give the letter to Sheryl, but that it is rather a part of the therapy to stop herself drinking.

Ffion explains her method of avoiding drinking

“I write things down instead of hitting the bottle – and it worked, because I poured the the vodka down the sink.”

"Your fingerprints were on the lock"

The DI points out that her fingerprints were on the lock of Sheryl’s flat, and Ffion explains, “I don't deny that I followed Gethin to the flat, but please, will you let me go home to my little girl.”

She reads out Ffion's earlier statement

She is asked if she still stands by her statement; “I heard Gethin say he had not been in love with me for a while, and his future was with Sheryl.”

"That must have been a knife through your heart!"

The DI maintains that must have been a knife through her heart, and Ffion agrees.

DI Davies demands, “Was that when you decided to kill her? Or was it on impulse? On the spur of the moment?”

"I did not do it!"

Ffion again declares that she did not decide to kill Sheryl, because she did not do it, and the letter is read out to her again; “I hate you for destroying my life. You don’t deserve to live!”

The DI goes on, “No-one would blame you,

"The court would be more lenient if you confessed"

“and the court would be much more lenient if you confessed.”

"I don't have anything to confess!"

Ffion informs her, “I don’t have anything to confess – you don’t have any evidence that I’ve done anything wrong!” but is told that they have enough motive, and it is only a matter of time before they will have evidence.

Eifion has a rude awakening from his sons

Bobi and Arthur wake up Eifion, who is still on the sofa, and who shouts “Two monsters are attacking me!” Their mother tells them to go and get dressed,

"We must stick to their routines"

and gives Eifion a cup of tea, emphasising that it is important they stick to their routines. He suggests that they do something today for the boys, but Cadno has to work, contacting the new supplier and discussing it with Eileen.

"You haven't shown much interest in the shop"

“You haven’t shown much interest in the shop up until now,” she says,

He feels better now that she knows the truth

but he is of the opinion that things have changed now. It may sound rather selfish, but he feels better about everything now that she knows the truth. “And now that you’re feeling better, we can carry on as we were, can we?” she demands.

"If you tried to forgive me, we could move on as a family"

“If you tried to forgive me, I’m sure we could move on as a family,” he replies, but she complains that he has not been listening to a word she has said.

"I'm still trying to get my head around it"

“I can’t behave as if nothing’s happened – I’m still trying to get my head around it!

"You don't understand how I feel!"

“You say the same thing over and over again without understanding how I feel!”

"I'll go back to number 7"

He says that he will go back to Number 7, but she concedes that he can stay in the spare room,

"Don't read anything into it"

but is not to read anything into it. She is just trying to maintain some normality for the boys.

Iolo has caught Caradog, and discusses his release arrangements

At number 7, Iolo proudly announces that he has caught Caradog, and Tyler is anxious that he is taken out into the garden. “No, I can’t do that – we have to take him a few miles away, or he’ll find his way back!”

"I'm moving back into the flat"

Then Eifion comes in with the news that he is moving back into the flat; “We’re not back together, but we are working on it.”

"What about Alun?"

Iolo asks about Alun and everything they have been through,

"I just want a normal life with Cadno and the boys"

but Eifion just wants a normal life with Cadno and the boys.

“What – don’t you think Tyler, Greta and I are a normal family?” Iolo asks him, and Tyler describes him as gay and homophobic. Eifion just wants his life back to how it was.

"Step back into the closet and shut the door?"

“So you’re going to step back into the closet and shut the door?” comments Tyler; Eifion thanks them for their help, but he has made his choice. He will go and see Alun and explain to him.

"I had a few meetings with clients"

Now Garry is facing interrogation; “Earlier in the evening, I had a few meetings with clients,”

"And, from 10:00pm onwards?"

but the DI is interested in his movements from 10:00pm onwards.

"I went to see Hywel"

“I went to see Hywel, as Ffion had told me that Gethin and Sheryl were planning to run away with Esther to Ireland – and I trust Ffion. I thought Hywel should know – of course he was angry, disappointed. I had to go to the garage – I needed to pick up a few forms, before going to an auction on Saturday – then I went home.”

"And of course Dani will confirm this"

DI Davies rather sceptically, remarks, “And of course Dani will confirm this – just as she confirmed you had been in all night.” He admits that was his fault, as he had put her in a difficult position.

"I didn't want to get Hywel into trouble"

The DI wants to know, “Why keep the fact that you had gone to see Hywel a secret?” and he explains that he did not want to get Hywel into trouble.

"So you both agreed to keep it quiet"

“So you both agreed to keep it quiet,” she says, and Garry points out that Hywel loved Sheryl, even though she had broken his heart – that is why he lied. He stresses that he knows Hywel is innocent.

"Your loyalty to Hywel is very touching"

His loyalty is described by the DI as very touching.

Cadno and the boys have arrived at Penrhewl . . .

Cadno and the boys arrive at Penrhewl in a taxi; she pays John Post, the driver,

. . . where they set about playing

and watches Bobi and Arthur playing.

She scans the fields of Penrhewl

She turns and looks wistfully across the fields of her former home.

Eifion arrives at Alun's

Eifion arrives at Alun’s house; “Listen, we’re not going to see each other again,” he says,

"I'm not going to leave Cadno and the children"

“I’m sorry, but I’m not going to leave Cadno and the children.”

This comes as a shock to Alun,

"So you're going to live happily together?"

who comments, “So you’re going to live happily together for the rest of your days, are you?”

"I have to prove I'm serious"

Eifion stresses that he has to prove that he is serious, or there is no chance of saving their relationship. “You can’t turn the clock back,” Alun tells him, “You’re making a huge mistake.”

“I haven’t come here to discuss it – just to tell you what my decision is.

"Things will be easier when we move to New Zealand"

“Anyway, things will be much easier when we are away from here,” Eifion maintains, “We’re moving, as a family, to New Zealand.”

Alun wishes him the best of luck with that; “There aren’t any gay men in New Zealand, are there?” He invites Eifion for one last drink.

Iolo suggests that they go for a picnic this afternoon, and then they can release Caradog.

Cadno wants to know where Eifion is . . .

Cadno arrives, having been unable to contact Eifion, and is told that he has gone out; “He’s gone to see Alun, hasn’t he?” she deduces,

. . . and Iolo hands over Alun's address

and wants to know Alun’s address.

Now it is Hywel's turn for questioning

Now Hywel is facing questioning; “How did you feel when you found out Sheryl was going to run away with Gethin?”

"I couldn't believe it!"

He replies that he could not believe it, as they had agreed that she would get more access to Esther, and they had arranged to meet the following day.

“But after what Garry said, it was obvious what her intention was, so I phoned her –

"I was ashamed of the last things I told her"

“yes, I phoned her. I was ashamed of the last things I told her – that I didn’t trust her, and that she would never see Esther again.”

"Did you ensure that she would never see Esther again?"

“After the phone call, did you go round there to ensure she would never be able to see Esther again?” the DI asks him, “Those were your exact words a few seconds ago,” but he explains he did not want her running away with Esther. He declares that he did not go to see her, but went to bed;

"I loved Sheryl, despite everything!"

he swears that he loved Sheryl, despite everything, and they had been very happy together.

“I will never forgive myself for the way I spoke to her in that last phone call,” he admits.

As they talk in Alun’s kitchen, he cannot believe that Cadno has accepted the news so well; it took his wife several months.

"I wouldn't say Cadno has accepted it"

Eifion would not say that she has accepted it, but he just wants to show her that he is serious about their relationship.

"I think it's time you left"

Alun wishes them well, and thinks that it is time that Eifion left.

Eifion says that he is going to miss Alun,

He deletes his number from Eifion's phone

and has his number deleted from his phone; “I don’t want you phoning me after having one too many in the Deri,” he is told.

After a parting hug . . .

Eifion gives him one last hug,

. . . he heads for the door

and walks to the front door.

Outside, he sees someone across the road

Outside, in tears, he notices Cadno standing nearby, and runs to her,

"It's not what you think – I came here to say goodbye!'

explaining, “It’s not what you think – I came here to say goodbye – I’ve deleted his number from my phone – look!”

"I believe you, Eifion"

She says that she believes him, and he confirms that he meant what he said; “I want to make a real go of things with you.”

She wants him to come with her, as she has something to show him;

They walk off together

they walk off along the road together.

Gethin detects the approach of two pairs of feet

Gethin is working under a car, when he sees two pairs of feet coming towards him;

"What does someone have to do to get an honest answer?"

“What does someone have to do round here to get an honest answer?” DI Davies enquires, “You lied to me. You said that you and Sheryl had split up, but I’ve found out you were planning to run away with her – and Esther.”

"I did want them to come away – but she did not want to go"

He replies that whoever told her that was mistaken; he did want Esther and Sheryl to come away with him, and bought tickets to go to Ireland – but she did not want to go. “She rejected you,” summarises the DI, “I didn’t know you had planned so much. So, although Hywel had taken all the passports and that Sheryl was not allowed to see Esther, and everyone hated her,

"Staying was a better option than running away with you!"

“staying here was still a better option than running away with you!”

The DI departs from the garage

DI Davies turns and, with her colleague, leaves the garage.

They look across the idyllic landscape of Penrhewl

Cadno and Eifion are sitting in a field at Penrhewl, looking across the landscape; “This is one of my favourite places in the world,” she says,

"I always came here if I was worried"

“When we lived here, I always came here if I was worried – there’s something so calm about the view. This is where I came after you persuaded me not to marry DJ, and to be with you. We’ve been happy, on the whole – I had you, the boys, all of this – I knew I’d made the right decision.

"There's no future for us as a couple"

“Just as I now know that there is no future for us as a couple – that’s why I’m leaving Cwmderi and taking the boys with me.”

Eifion objects to this, insisting that it is over between him and Alun;

"We can go to New Zealand!"

“We can go to New Zealand.” She does not want to go there, but he insists that they can make it work.

"You're not the Eifion I thought I knew"

“You don’t understand – you’ve deceived me for years – you’re not the Eifion I thought I knew.” He begs her not to take the boys away, maintaining that there is no reason to live without them.

"You have no right to blackmail me!"

She tells him, “You have no right to blackmail me, or the right to expect me to throw my life away and live a lie. I won’t stop you seeing the boys – I’m going to look for a small farm for the three of us nearby – you can see them as often as you like.”

Eifion is distressed that she is leaving so soon

She explains that the money from Jim and Eileen for the farm has come through. She has booked a taxi and is going to pack and leave tonight, to stay with her brother for a while;
