Colin seems to be running the shop single-handed

Colin is working in the shop when Eifion comes downstairs from the flat; Colin asks how he is and tells him he needs to rest. Eifion decides that he needs some breakfast and goes to the café.

"You go and have some breakfast"

Colin will have his break when Eifion comes back.

"I haven't seen Eifion for days"

Eileen comes in through the back of the shop and remarks that she has not seen Eifion for days; “Oh, so you don’t know then,” Colin tells her,

"Eifion and Cadno have split up!"

“Eifion and Cadno have split up!” Eileen is very surprised, being aware that things were not right,

Eileen is very shocked

but says that their splitting up is rather a shock.

Colin goes on to reveal, “Cadno had an affair, and was probably too ashamed to tell you, guaranteed.”

"You have to be strong for your father"

Gaynor and Rhys sit anxiously in the prison visiting room, waiting for the inmates to file in; Rhys is not looking forward to this encounter, but Gaynor urges him to be strong for his father.

"I thought I asked you not to come"

Hywel’s first reaction is, “I thought I asked you not to come!” but Rhys says that he decided to ignore his father,

"I'll dig a tunnel to get you out"

and jokes that he is going to dig a tunnel to get him out.

Gaynor assures him that Esther is fine; “Rhys is staying with us, so she’s with her big brother,” and Hywel is glad they did not bring her, as he does not want her to see the prison.

"There's no telling when I'll see her again!"

“There’s no telling when I’ll see her again, is there?” he laments.

Sioned is hard at work

At Penrhewl, Sioned is typing industriously on the laptop when Jim comes in, complaining that lifting potatoes is hard work. She points out, “Well, you’re not as young as you used to be.”

"I only wanted to know what you're cooking!"

He looks to see what is cooking on the hob, and is admonished by Eileen.

Eileen tells them the news about Eifion and Cadno

Then she reveals the news; “Eifion and Cadno have split up – because Cadno had an affair!” which comes as a shock to both of them. “Colin says that it has hit Eifion very hard.”

Jim sympathises with Eifion

Jim feels sorry for Eifion, maintaining that although he almost ruined Penrhewl, he does not deserve this; “Perhaps we can find him some work here, to take his mind off things,” he suggests,

"We've got Gwion"

but Sioned points out that they have Gwion, and they do not want people connecting Eifion to the farm again.

"We're trying to re-establish Penrhewl's good name"

They have worked hard to re-establish Penrhewl’s good name.

"Everyone deserves a second chance – don't they, Sioned?"

Jim replies that everyone deserves a second chance; “Don’t they, Sioned?” he adds, rather pointedly.

"You should be careful how you treat Non's kidney"

Mark complains that he does not feel too clever after the party, and Colin advises him, “You should be careful how you treat Non’s kidney – are you supposed to drink alcohol?” Mark replies that he did not drink much, but is not used to it.

“What do you think of this Hywel business, then?” Colin continues, “I hear that Julie is staying with you.”

"I know what it's like to be wrongly accused!"

Mark is not taking sides, as he knows very well what it is like to be wrongly accused.

Gethin brings in his flyers . . .

Gethin comes in, asking if he can leave some flyers, advertising a fund to raise money to help Esther in the future. Colin wonders if the family is in favour of the idea,

and Gethin assures him that they are and leaves the shop. “I don’t think he’s the right person to do this, if you take everything into consideration,” judges Colin, but Mark expects he just wants to help.

"Or make up for his misdemeanours?"

“Or make up for his misdemeanours?” adds Colin.

Gethin goes to see Julie

Then Gethin goes to Maes-y-Deri, where Kath is clearing up after the party and makes a point of boasting about Ricky’s exam results. Julie brings in some discarded cans from the garden, and Gethin shows her the leaflets;

"It's a way of remembering Sheryl"

“It’s a way of remembering Sheryl and helping Esther at the same time. Gwern and his friend thought of the idea – they wanted to help Esther.”

"I wanted to make sure you're happy with it"

He says he had started working on a website as well; “I just wanted to make sure that you’re happy for me to do it.”

"That's a lovely idea, Gethin"

Julie replies that it is a lovely idea and thanks him.

"Colin said that Cadno was unfaithful"

Eileen goes to see Eifion and to commiserate with him; “Colin said that Cadno was unfaithful,” she begins, and he looks sheepish. “Is she with the man now? Have she and the boys gone to live with him?”

"We couldn't work it out"

Eifion tells her that Cadno is staying with her brother, and that they could not work it out.

“I think she has behaved terribly – even if she was not thinking of you, she should have considered the boys,” Eileen adds, and Eifion graciously admits that it was partly his fault.

Eileen offers him some farm work

“Jim and I thought you might like some work on the farm - although picking potatoes isn’t very exciting.”

"That's just what I need"

He says that it is just what he needs at the moment, and thanks her profusely; Eileen is glad that they can help.

"Will Esther be living with you?"

At the prison, Hywel wonders if Rhys will be taking Esther to live with him, but he answers that Esther does not know him well enough to think of that. Hywel stresses that he cannot stay with Gaynor for ever,

"You're not going to be here for ever"

but Rhys insists, “You’re not going to be in here for ever! Why would you be?”

Hywel appears to be resigned to the fact that he will not be released,

"Dad, did you kill Sheryl?"

so Rhys demands, “Dad, did you do it? Did you kill Sheryl?”

"Do you really think I could kill someone?"

“Do you really think I could kill someone?” Hywel replies, and Rhys cannot understand why he is in prison. “Someone planted evidence and led the police to it – I’ve been framed!” his father rages,” so he is told that he has to fight back, for Esther’s sake.

"Have you any idea who framed you?"

“Have you any idea who framed you?” Rhys asks, and Hywel knows that it must be something to do with the affair;

Gethin and Ffion are at the top of Hywel's list

the two names which spring to mind are Gethin and Ffion.

"I shall have to go and talk to them"

Rhys determines that he will have to talk to them, but is warned that it is too dangerous; “It’s not right that the murderer is still out there,” he says.

"No, that's too dangerous!"

Both Gaynor and Hywel advise him against it, and he appears that he is abandoning the idea. Then the buzzer sounds for the end of visiting time; Hywel stands up, and before he returns to his cell,

"Don't trust anyone, all right?"

warns Rhys, “Don’t trust anyone, all right?”

"Someone wants to try some of our cakes!"

Sioned tells her mother, “You know that new cafe in Llandovery? They want to try some of the Cae Glas cakes, with the possibility of a regular order. They want to start next weekend, so we are going to be busy!”
Eileen is going for a lie down for a couple of hours, and Jim is worried that Eileen is under too much pressure,

"I shall do all the baking"

but Sioned explains that she will do all the baking, and her mother will not have to lift a finger. Jim is about to deliver some vegetables,

"Ooh – I've got a dodgy stomach!"

but has a dodgy stomach, and has to hurry to the toilet.

Kath checks the post at Maes-y-Deri, and finds a final notice from the electricity company; she opens the container in the kitchen which normally contains money, and finds it empty.

"£200 has disappeared from here!"

She tells Mark, “£200 has disappeared from here – and we’ve got an electricity bill to pay! Who would do such thing?”

"I gave the money to Ricky!"

Then Mark realises, and begs his mother not to shout; “I gave the money to Ricky to go to Spain – I’m sorry, OK? I’d had too much to drink, and I was so proud, I wanted him to enjoy his holiday.”

"What if they turn off the electricity?"

“It took me weeks to save that!” she rants, “What if they turn off the electricity?” Mark responds that they could have rented Ricky’s room while he was away, but Kath invited Julie to stay.

Julie is eavesdropping

At this point, Julie has just come downstairs after her bath, and listens outside the door.

Mark continues, “And she has a bath every day – do you have any idea how much baths cost?

"I hope they do turn off the electricity!"

“I hope they do turn off the electricity – we’ll save a fortune!” In the hall, Julie is feeling very guilty.

"Some surplus veg for you, Colin"

Jim delivers a box of vegetables to the shop, and explains they are surplus, so Colin can sell them at half price. He is offered a cup of tea,

"The boss – not Eileen – Sioned!"

and comments, “It will save me facing more orders from the boss – not Eileen – Sioned!” Then he is afflicted by more stomach pains, and has to use the toilet upstairs;

Jim takes some reading matter with him

he takes a magazine with him.

Colin welcomes Rhys back to the village

Rhys comes in and Colin welcomes him back, although it is a shame about the circumstances;

He is not pleased to see Gethin's flyers . . .

Rhys notices one of the flyers on the counter, and is told that Gethin brought them in earlier. “I’ll get rid of them if you want,” Colin volunteers; Rhys considers that a good idea,

. . . and Colin hides the rest of them

and leaves the shop, taking a flyer with him.

"I'm sure Dad didn't do it!"

He sees Julie across the road at the cashpoint and introduces himself to her; he says that he is sure his father did not do it, as he loved Sheryl.

"Well, the police think he did!"

Julie points out that the police think he did it, but Rhys is sure that he has been framed.

"Have you seen this?"

He asks if she has seen the flyer, and she replies that she supports it.

"Gethin is nothing to do with Esther!"

“Gethin is nothing to do with Esther!” he exclaims, but she maintains that he loved Sheryl and is concerned for Esther. “He does not have the right to even think of Esther!” is Rhys’ opinion, “Tell him to keep away from my sister!” Julie remarks that Esther is her grand-daughter, and she will do what she wants.

“Just like Sheryl, then” says Rhys,

"She did what she liked – and ruined people's lives!"

“She did what she liked – and ruined people’s lives in the process. I hated her – I wish she and Dad had never met. He was happy with Gaynor until Sheryl seduced him. Dad’s a broken man in prison!”

"I'll never see Sheryl again!"

Julie snarls, “At least he’s still alive – you can still see him. I’ll never see Sheryl again! You’ve got a nasty streak – just like your father!” She turns and walks away,

He looks across at the floral tributes

and he looks at all the floral tributes outside the salon door.

"Rhys is not happy about this fund"

Julie visits the Deri flat, where Gethin is working on the laptop, and tells him that she has just seen Rhys; “He’s not happy about this fund,” but Gethin points out that it is nothing to do with him.

"I don't want anyone to think badly about Sheryl"

“I don’t want anyone to think badly of Sheryl,” she continues, and when he wonders why raising money for Esther would do that,

"Because you're doing it!"

she explains, “Because you’re doing it! Not everybody liked Sheryl – well, no-one’s perfect.”

"Sheryl was perfect!"

He takes issue with this, insisting that Sheryl was perfect, but Julie replies that she was not; “But the funeral, and everything I’m going to do for Sheryl, is going to be perfect from now on. No-one will have a reason to judge her, so we have to stop this fund.”

"This is the only way I can do something for her!"

Gethin becomes flustered; “This is the only way I can do something for her!”

"This is my last opportunity to do something for her"

Julie tells him that this is her last opportunity to do something for her daughter, and she is going to do it properly.

Alun turns up at the shop

Alun walks into the shop; Colin advises that Eifion has gone to the cash and carry, but he will be back soon. As Alun leaves, Eifion returns,

"You have a visitor, Eifion"

so he is called back,

Eifion is definitely not pleased

although Eifion is far from pleased to see him. Alun lies that he is here for a financial advice appointment, and is taken upstairs.

Julie takes £50 from her purse

Julie returns to Maes-y-Deri and hands over £50 to Kath; “That’s to pay my way –

"That's to pay for the baths"

“and to pay for the baths,” she says.

"You've put your size sevens in it again!"

Kath tells Mark that he has put his size sevens in it again, and he explains that money is rather tight at the moment, and he is hung over.

"I have to pay my way"

Julie acknowledges that she has to pay her way – she does not want to be a burden, and it is important that people think positively of Sheryl.

"I don't want to do anything which reflects badly on her"

“I don’t want to do anything that reflects badly on her. Having good friends like you helps a lot.”

"Cadno left me – I didn't want her to go!"

Eifion moans that Iolo had no right to phone him, but Alun maintains that he is proud of Eifion, and that it is a great step forward. “Cadno left me – I didn’t want her to go!” Eifion rages,

"But now we have a future"

but now that she has, Alun considers that they have a future, and assures Eifion there is no reason for him not to be himself.

"I'm not gay!"

“I’m not coming out – never! I’m not gay!” shouts Eifion, “Believe what you want – I don’t care.

"I just want to hide the fact I've slept with men!"

“All that’s important is hiding the fact I’ve slept with men!” Jim’s magazine must have been very interesting, because only now he emerges from the bathroom, and hears Eifion’s last sentence.
