22 August 2018

Garry has been summoned by Hywel
Garry receives a phone call from the prison to say that Hywel wants to see him on Friday;
"Right, I'll be there"
he agrees, rather reluctantly, that this will be fine, and confirms he will be there.
Chester looks on the laptop at photographs of Ricky, enjoying himself in Spain;
"If you hadn't left school . . ."
he does not like his mother looking at it, maintaining that his laptop is private.   “If you hadn’t left school, perhaps I would have given you money to go on holiday too,” she tells him,
"There may be a chance another time"
and Colin predicts that there may well be a chance another time.
Chester flounces out,
"It's one tantrum after another with him!"
and Britt moans to Colin, “It’s one tantrum after another with him!”   When Colin protests that she is being rather hard on him, she adds, “Well, it was his decision to leave school!”
Garry is deep in thought . . .
In the Deri, Garry is very pensive;  Rhys comes in,
. . . and tells Rhys that it is rather a coincidence
and Garry thinks it is a very neat coincidence, him coming in just after the contact from the prison.
"Why does your father want to see me?"
“Your father wants to see me – any idea why?”
"Something to do with you running away to America?"
Rhys shakes his head, and then says, “Something to do with you running away to America, perhaps?   Scared some new evidence will come out, are you?   Or is it a guilty conscience?   Where exactly did you go after going to see Dad that night?   Did you go and see Sheryl, to teach her a lesson?”
Garry adopts a threatening tone
Garry turns threatening;  “Listen, Rhys – the only reason you’re not on your way to hospital is because I think so highly of your father!”
"It was Garry who killed Sheryl!"
Ffion comes in, and Rhys tells her, “It was Garry who killed Sheryl!”   She points out, exasperatedly, that it may be Garry today,
"Who are you going to accuse next – me?"
but who is he going to accuse next?   Her?   She suspects that why he was so weird with her yesterday, and advises him to just leave it, as he is making things worse for everyone.
Bryntirion is being advertised online . . .
Kath is looking at the online page promoting Bryntirion,
. . . but Kath is concerned there have been no takers yet
and complains to Non on the phone that they have had no enquiries yet;  “I know you only put it up two nights ago,” she says, but Non urges her to have some patience.
Kath quickly closes the laptop when Mark comes in;
"I thought you'd gone to the undertakers with Julie"
he is surprised because he thought that his mother had gone to the undertaker’s with Julie, but apparently she wanted to go alone.   He begins, “The thing is, Mam, Debbie is coming home later, and there are things we need to talk about.”
"The sort of things you were talking about the other day?"
Kath wonders if they are the same sort of things they were talking about on the sofa the other night.
"Look, go and treat yourself . . ."
He offers her a £5 note, and tells her to treat herself, but she is adamant that it should go towards the electricity bill.   She does, however, take it,
". . . but don't come back before three!"
and he says he does not want her back before 3:00pm at the earliest, suggesting she could go for a walk in the park.
Rhys comes into the café, where Kelly asks how he is coping and offers him a coffee on the house;
"I know Dad wouldn't have done it"
“It just doesn’t make sense – I know Dad wouldn’t have done it,” he says, “Have you got a theory?”
"Yes – but I was barking up the wrong tree"
Kelly admits that she did have one, but was barking up the wrong tree.
"I wasn't welcome in the Deri just now"

“Put it this way – I was in the Deri just now, and I wasn’t welcome there,” he replies;  Kelly is surprised that he suspects Garry,

Chester hears Garry's name mentioned
and Chester, who is sitting nearby, takes notice.   “He’s hiding something, I know it,” Rhys asserts.
“What’s that about Garry?” Chester demands, and is told that it is none of his business;
"That's where you're wrong!"
“That’s where you’re wrong!” Chester replies, and squares up to Rhys.
Ed is there to prevent a fracas developing
Fortunately, Ed is at hand to break up this argument, and instructs Chester to sit down, which he eventually does.
"Acting like this is not going to help"
“I can imagine what you’re going through,” Ed tells Rhys, “But acting like this is not going to help anyone.”
Mark is candle-lighting
Mark, wearing a t-shirt proclaiming ‘ESPAÑA’ is lighting candles on the table at Maes-y-Deri when Debbie returns home;
Debbie obediently closes her eyes . . .
he tells her to close her eyes, and she fears that he is going to tickle her again.
. . . then see that a Spanish meal has been prepared
When she opens them, she sees that Mark has prepared a meal for them;  “Seeing that we couldn’t go to Spain, I thought I would bring Spain to you,” he says,
"Take a seat, por favor!"
“Take a seat, por favor!”

When Chester pays for his hot chocolate, he remarks to Rhys,

Rhys does not like being threatened by Chester
“Oi!   You’d better be careful what you say – all right?”
Chester collides with Ffion in the doorway
and then barges into Ffion as he goes out of the door.
She sees Rhys and is put off ordering a coffee
However, when she sees that Rhys is also in the café, she changes her mind and leaves again.
"Ffion's avoiding Rhys"
Kelly informs Ed, “Ffion left because she wanted to avoid Rhys!  I’m not making it up, Ed!”
"Don't start that again, Kel!"
He begs her not to start this again, but rather to concentrate on her paperwork.
When Chester arrives home, Britt comments, “Tantrum over?”   He sits down on the sofa,
"How about I lend you some money?"
and she suggests, “Can we talk?   How about I lend you some money, so you can have a holiday somewhere?”   He wonders how he could pay it back,
"You'll soon find a job"
and she answers that he will soon find a job.
"It's too much hassle!"
“It’s too much hassle!” he replies;  his mother rages that he could at least pretend to be grateful, but he shouts at her to leave him alone.
"You're not going anywhere until you put these away!"
By now, Britt’s temper has been roused, and she demands that he puts his clothes away, now;  “You’re not going anywhere until you put these away tidily!”   He looks at her defiantly.
Colin arrives at the door to the chip shop flat, with a quantity of shopping, and struggles to find his key;
Gwen is obviously going on a bus journey
Garry walks past Gwen, who is waiting at the bus stop,
"Give me the key, Colin"
and assists him with opening the door.
Garry is almost struck by a basket of washing coming downstairs
Suddenly something is thrown down the stairs,
Britt is being harangued by Chester
and Chester’s voice can be heard,
"Get out of my way!"
shouting at his mother to get out of the way.
Britt ends up on the floor
Britt stumbles backwards and hits her head;
"What have you done?"
Garry and Colin come rushing up the stairs and see Chester standing over his mother, who is on the floor.   “What have you done!” screams Colin,
Colin tries to calm  Britt
and attempts to comfort Britt, while Garry chases after Chester, who has made his escape.
"It sounded like the Somme in there!"
Kath was in the vicinity when the shouting was going on, and in the café reports to Ed and Kelly, “It sounded like the Somme in there!   Shouting, screaming, things being thrown!” but Ed reminds her that she did not actually see anything.
Kelly would just like some hush, to deal with her paperwork.
"Has anyone seen Chester?"
Garry comes in, asking if anyone has seen Chester;
"Not since he was cheeky this morning"
“No, not since he was cheeky this morning!” Kelly tells him.   Rhys is still sitting there,
"A short temper must run in the family!"
and remarks that a short temper must run in the family.
Kelly loses her temper and orders everyone out
Kelly has had enough, and orders Rhys out of the café;  when Kath says that she was just beginning to enjoy the entertainment, Kelly throws her out too, together with the rest of the customers, and says that she is closing.
"You can have them all – I don't care!"
Kath protests that she came in for doughnuts, so Kelly thrusts the whole plateful into her hands, shrieking, “You can have them all!   Take them, because I don’t care!”
"I haven't had patatas bravas like that for years!"
Debbie has enjoyed their meal;  “I haven’t had patatas bravas like that for years – I’d say you have a secret talent.”   He replies that it is not his only secret talent, but then Debbie’s phone rings;
Bad news from Debbie's mother
it is Dol, her mother, who reports that Ricky has been mugged, but is uninjured.
Chester is in the park, rather tearful
Chester sits on a bench in the park;  he is in tears when Garry approaches, and warns him not to move.
"You're going to tell me what's going on"
“I’m not going anywhere – not until you tell me what’s going on,” Garry tells him, “I just want to know why your mother was lying on floor while you were standing over her.   I’ll let you know how your mother is after you tell me what happened.”
"She wouldn't let me go out!"
Chester explains, “She wouldn’t let me go out, and I said she had no right to stop me, but she wouldn’t listen!”
"And that is when you hit her?"
Garry assumes that was when Chester hit her, and he admits,
"I lost my temper – once again!"
“I lost my temper – once again!   So I deserve to get punched in return – and hard, too!”
Garry tries to calm him
Garry puts a protective arm around him.
Colin tends Britt's injury
Meanwhile, Colin is bathing Britt’s injured face, and advising her that she should phone the police, but she insists once again that it was an accident.   “He was standing over you, ready to hit you again!” Colin points out,
"What if he loses his temper again . . ."
“That boy is dangerous – what if he loses his temper again – with someone else?
". . . with Aaron or Catrin?"
“What if he hits Aaron or Catrin?”
"That's not going to happen!"
Britt is confident that will not happen, but Colin imagines, “I’m sure that’s what Hywel Llywelyn’s mother said too – and look where he is.”
"You're not the first to treat someone badly"
Garry assures Chester, “You’re not the first to treat someone badly – someone you love – we’ve all made that mistake.
"Having to live with what we did"
“Going too far, and then having to live with what we did.”   Chester replies that so much has changed recently.
“When someone special isn’t in your life any more, your head’s all over the place,” Garry continues,
"I know your mother doesn't come close to Hannah!"
“I know your mother doesn’t come close to Hannah, but she does love you.”
"It's her fault most of the time!"
Chester says that everything is so difficult, and it is his mother’s fault most of the time.   Garry instructs him that there is one thing he can do to make things easier for himself;  “Go and see her and apologise – it’s a start,” but he insists that it was not his fault;  his mother would not let him go out.
"You're apologising for hitting her!"
“You’re not apologising for arguing with her, but for hitting her!” Garry reminds him.
"Well, Ricky is all right"
Mark is relieved that Ricky is all right, as that is what is important, but Debbie is fretting that someone took all his money;  “That’s important when you’re struggling to find every penny – going without so he can enjoy himself.
"I told him to be careful!"
“I told him to be careful!”
Just then, Kath comes back, with the doughnuts in a box;
"Kelly had a strop and threw everyone out!"
she complains that Kelly had a strop and threw everyone out – she had nowhere to go.   “The problem with the Deri is that if you have one, you want another – and I only had enough money for one pint,” she laments.
"How about you go for a long walk!"
Then they break the news to her that Ricky has had his money stolen – but stress that he is all right.   Mark suggest that his mother goes for a long walk, but Debbie is not in the mood any more, so Kath might as well stay.
Mark tries one of the free doughnuts
Mark has one of the doughnuts.
Ed has contacted Gwen to run the café
In the café flat, Kelly is poring over the paperwork;  Ed informs her that he has arranged for Gwen to come in early, so the café is still open.
"I'm sorry – I made an idiot of myself"
“I’m sorry – I made an idiot of myself, throwing everyone out,” she confesses, “I didn’t sleep last night.”
"You can't let the business suffer as a result"
Ed consoles her that everyone is in shock about what happened to Sheryl, and people are bound to talk about it in the café.   “But you can’t let the business suffer as a result.”
"I'm way behind with the paperwork"
She tells him that she is way behind with the paperwork Debbie left for her;  it is if Debbie does not want anything to do with the place, even though technically she is the owner.
She is afraid of letting things slip:  “When the café’s mine, I don’t want to make mistakes with deliveries,”
"You must ask for help, Kel"
so Ed advises her to ask for help, to talk to Debbie or Anita,
"It will be my business – I'll sort it out."
but she rejects the suggestion.   “It will be my business – I’ll sort it out myself.”   Ed recalls that is the mistake he made with the Deri, trying to do everything himself,
"A bit of peace and I'll be fine"
but Kelly is adamant, “A bit of peace and I’ll be fine.”   She appears to be in a state of panic.
Chester seems hesitant to apologise . . .
Garry accompanies Chester back to the flat, and informs Britt that he has something to tell her,
. . . and Britt insists that no apology is necessary
but she insists that there is no need for him to apologise, explaining that she tripped.
Colin looks grim . . .
Colin walks into the room, looking very stern, and carrying two bags;  he throws them down at Chester’s feet,
. . . and informs Chester he is no longer welcome there
and says, “Sorry, Chester, you’re not welcome here.   Like I’ve already said, he’s dangerous, and the sooner he leaves, the better for everyone!”
Britt implores Garry to intervene, but is told it is none of his business.
Chester sadly picks up the bags
Chester picks up the bags,
"Go now, before I throw you out!"
and is ordered by Colin, “Go now, before I throw you out!”
"Chester, you don't have to leave!"
Britt runs after him, protesting that he does not have to leave, but he does.
