so he picks up the phone and walks out of the room.
"How much longer is he staying?" |
“How much longer is he staying?” she demands, “You still haven’t told me why they’ve fallen out!” but Garry replies that it is not important.
"He's not the only one under our feet!" |
“Anyway, Chester is not the only one under our feet here – Gethin was only supposed to be here for a couple of nights!” he stresses.
Dani points out that there is a big difference;
"Nobody's killed Chester's girlfriend!" |
“The last time I checked, nobody had killed Chester’s girlfriend!” she rants, and she goes down to the bar.
Julie reveals the funeral arrangements |

“Sheryl thought the world of you, Siôn,” says Julie, “That’s why I’d like you to do the service.”
"Siôn's not a minister any more" |
Anita protests that he is no longer a minister,
"It would be an honour to pay tribute to her" |
but he says it would be an honour to pay the last tribute to Sheryl. Julie has a request for Anita, too; that she contact Wil to let him and Darren know the arrangements. “Every time I try to talk to talk to Wil myself, I can’t stop crying,” she says,
Anita gives the impression she will contact Wil |
and Anita, rather abruptly, replies that it is not a problem.
Julie is about to go, but Siôn invites her to come over for dinner, much to Anita’s displeasure.
"I hope you're not angry with me" |
As soon as she has gone, Siôn comments, “I hope you’re not angry with me for inviting her over for a meal.”
"I don't know what to say to her" |
Anita makes no secret of the fact that she is not happy, and does not know what to say to her. She knows that Wil does not want to come to the funeral, preferring to remember his mother the way she was.
"Why are you so eager to take part in the funeral?" |
“There’s one thing I don’t understand – why are you so eager to take part in the funeral?” Anita enquires. He answers that he could not refuse, as it is the least he can do.
He admits he saw Sheryl the night she died |
“You’re not going to like this – I went to the flat to see Sheryl the night she died,” Siôn begins, “She wanted to thank me for persuading Hywel to let her see Esther. I may have been the last person to see her alive – and perhaps if I had stayed a little longer . . .”
He continues, “I knew you’d be upset, and read too much into things.”
"I am reading too much into it!" |
She confirms that she is reading too much into it, but he insists he has nothing to hide;
"I just want to pay tribute to Sheryl!" |
he just wants to pay tribute to Sheryl, because her mother asked him to – that is all there is to it.
Garry is very uncommunicative |
In the Deri, Tyler remarks that Garry is not in a good mood, and Danny explains that he has a lot on his mind.
Iolo interrupts, “Like the rumours Rhys has been spreading?”
"Yes, we are thinking about going to America" |
Dani replies that yes, they are thinking about going to America – for a holiday,
"For six months?" |
but Tyler is surprised that it is for six months.
“You make it sound as if we’re doing something really weird!” she points out.
"I'm going out!" |
Garry notices Chester heading for the door; he simply says that he is going out.
Then Julie comes in, but not for a drink;
Julie wants the funeral tea to be in the Deri . . . |
she is sorry for her rudeness the other day, and informs them when the funeral will be. She asks if they will let Gethin know, and would like to hold the funeral tea here in the Deri.
. . . and for Garry to help carry the coffin |
“I’d like to ask you one more thing – Garry, will you help to carry the coffin?”
Garry remains silent, but Dani replies, “It would be an honour, wouldn’t it, Garry?” and he mumbles his agreement,
Garry says he has to go out |
then suddenly decides he has to go out.
Julie recruits two more coffin-bearers |
Julie turns to Iolo and Tyler, wanting them to carry the coffin too, and they agree.

Esther seems quite happy at Llwyncelyn |
At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor is playing with Esther,
Elgan is writing something |
while Elgan is writing in a book; she reports that many of the pupils have done very well in the exams, but he is engrossed in what he is doing.
"Noting down what happened with the therapist" |
He explains that he is just writing down what happened with the therapist; “It was very useful,
"I should contact people from my past" |
“but she did suggest that I should contact people from my past – those who were around when everything started – to give me an opportunity to explain, and make up for the way I treated some people.”
"Including Sophia?" |
Gaynor assumes this includes Sophia, but he is not yet sure whether he will contact her. He will not be long, finishing what he is doing, and then he intends that the two of them will go out –

He is going to do a barbecue |
“I’m going to do a barbecue to thank you for the support and for looking after Esther.” Gaynor thinks that is a lovely idea, and when Rhys goes to fetch the barbecue from the garage,
"Better cancel that table, then" |
Elgan concludes that he will have to cancel that table.
The confirmation of Garry's visit to Cardiff Prison |
In the street, Garry looks at the confirmation on his phone of his visit to Hywel; Kelly is passing and comments,
"It's not easy, with these rumours, is it?" |
“It’s not exactly easy, with these rumours, is it?” but he snaps that he does not listen to gossip.
"You should have kept quiet" |
Ed advises her that it is better to stay quiet, and she hopes that he will keep quiet when they going to visit Auntie Anita, after her strop yesterday.
Anita has several guests |
At number ten, not only Julie has been invited for a meal, but also Iolo, Tyler, Kelly and Ed. They begin the meal,
Siôn is proud of his apple tarts |
and Siôn boasts that his apple tart won second prize at the Llanarthur Show last year.
"I heard about you throwing everyone out!" |
Then Tyler remarks that he heard about Kelly yesterday, throwing everyone out of the café,
"It was just a misunderstanding" |
but she describes it as simply a misunderstanding.
Anita, of course, wants to know all the details; “Come on, Kelly – a bit of strain and you always start acting unreasonably!”
"Oh, psychoanalysis is part of dinner, is it?" |
Kelly did not realise that psychoanalysis came as part of dinner, but Anita continues, “A perfect example – she loses her temper and then tries to be clever!”
Siôn suggests they discuss something else, but Anita is undeterred;
"You only have to ask for help" |
“If the café is too much for you, you only have to ask for help.”
Kelly also want to talk about something else, “Such as Tyler’s big gob!”
Burgers and sausages are coming along nicely |
In the garden at Llwyncelyn, the burgers and sausages are browning nicely, and Gaynor is putting Esther to bed.
"This nonsense has to stop!" |
“This nonsense of going round accusing Garry has to stop!” Elgan says, “He’s a good friend – and more than that he’s innocent. Every police officer working on the case knows that. Look, I understand that you’re worried about your father.”
"I want justice for Dad!" |
Rhys insists that he wants justice for his father,
"How about justice for Sheryl?" |
and Elgan retorts, “How about justice for Sheryl? Accusing innocent people to get a guilty man out of prison.” Rhys is quite adamant that his father is not guilty and Garry is not innocent.
"He wants to help a murderer get away scot-free!" |
Then Gaynor approaches, and Rhys tells her, “He wants to help a murderer get away scot-free! I don’t want to slow down and think –
"I don't want advice from you!" |
“and I don’t want advice from you!” He walks away, and Gaynor hopes that Elgan is pleased with himself.
Chester is in tears as his listens to his mother's message |
Chester is out in the street, listening to the message his mother left for him; “I’m sorry for falling out with you yesterday – it was my fault, not yours. Please phone me.”
He looks up . . . |
He is standing near the door of Tomos ac Ellis,
. . . at the flat window |
and looks up at the chip shop flat.
Julie wants a traditional service – but no-one wearing black |
Over the meal at number 10, Siôn asks Julie what sort of service she wants, and she replies that she would like it traditional, but does not want anyone to wear black; “Sheryl was a colourful character,”
"She liked flirting with everyone" |
and Anita remarks that she did like flirting with everyone.
"She could wrap Siôn round her little finger" |
“It’s true – she knew how to wrap Siôn round her little finger,” she goes on, “She only had to click her fingers and Siôn was there. He admitted to me earlier that he went to see Sheryl the night she died.”
"You didn't mention that" |
Julie wonders why he did not mention it, and he replies that he was interviewed by the police and told them everything. He would have mentioned it to Julie if it had been important.
When Iolo demands why he went to see her,
"She needed a friend" |
he replies, “She’d fallen out with Hywel, and needed a friend – she said thank you for persuading Hywel to let her see Esther. I’m telling the truth – why else would I have been there?”
"I just want to know what she did that night" |
Julie just wants to know what Sheryl did on her last night, that is all,
"I was there to comfort your daughter, that's all" |
and he confirms that he was there to comfort her daughter, and that was all. Julie hopes that there will be no more secrets, as they must be honest with each other, or they will never get through this.
Garry goes to check on Britt |
Garry goes to see Britt, maintaining that he wanted to check that she was OK. She is very worried about Chester, and has been thinking about what happened yesterday; “I know it was my fault really – I know that Colin was trying to look after me by kicking him out,
"I just want to know he's all right" |
“but I just want to know that he’s all right, you know. He hasn’t done anything silly again now, has he?”
"Not everything is about Chester!" |
Garry advises her that not everything is about Chester, and she asks him if he is OK; she thanks him for the flowers, which are displayed on the table.
"I thought they were from Colin" |
“I thought they were from Colin, but he said he knows nothing about them, so I knew you sent them, because no-one else knows about the accident.”
Garry, however, knows better |
Garry smiles, knowingly.
Elgan helps himself to another burger |
Elgan fetches another burger, and notices that Gaynor has not eaten much; “He’s only defending his father,” she insists, but Elgan points out that he is splitting the community.
"Garry Monk, innocent?" |
“Garry Monk, innocent?” she responds, incredulously; Elgan supposes that the police probably have definitive evidence against Hywel, but she is convinced that someone has framed him.
"I don't want this to come between us" |
“I don’t want this to come between us,” he protests,
"Well, give Rhys and me some support!" |
and she urges him to give her and Rhys some support. “I’m not going to point the finger at Garry,” he goes on.
However, she maintains that she knows Hywel, and knows what he is like;
"A liar and a womaniser – but not a murderer!" |
“He’s a liar and a womaniser – but he’s not a murderer! I’m going to help Rhys prove that to you, and the rest of the village.”
"Well done – you've taken the first step" |
Garry compliments Chester on taking the first step; “The flowers you sent your mother,”
"I don't know what you're talking about" |
but he pretends he does not know what Garry is talking about. Then as Dani walks in the door, Garry abruptly changes the subject to Chester finding a job,
Chester is sent to his room |
and they tell him to go to his room
"Are you going to stick around for more than five minutes?" |
“Are you going to stick around for more than five minutes?” Dani asks Garry, “You’re always going off, disappearing for hours.”
Elgan warns Garry he needs to talk to Rhys |
Just then, Garry receives a text from Elgan, warning him that he needs to talk to Rhys if he wants to keep his reputation.
He accuses Dani of being paranoid, but she knows there is something on his mind; “You’ve been acting weird for a while now,” she begins, and Garry wonders if this is her or Rhys Llywelyn talking; he is about to walk out of the room.
"No – I've got a pub to run!" |
“Off out again?” she demands, but he snarls that he has a pub to run.
"I can't believe you said that!" |
As they put away the washing-up, Siôn cannot believe that Anita said that, but she explains that it just slipped out; he is quite sure that it was deliberate.
Greta is playing happily |
Meanwhile, Iolo and Julie are playing with Greta while Ed and Kelly watch them.
Julie says that it is time for her to leave,
"All right – I'll Skype him tomorrow" |
and Anita assures her she will Skype Wil tomorrow. Siôn warns Anita that she should have told Julie that she does not intend to contact him, but she replies that she was not in the mood.
"I want a word with you!" |
Outside the Deri, Garry sees Rhys, and wants a word with him;
"I've warned you once!" |
“You and your big mouth – I’ve warned you once!”
"Obviously the truth hurts!" |
Rhys points out that obviously the truth hurts, but Garry is adamant,
"Hywel killed Sheryl!" |
“Hywel killed Sheryl! And if you go around saying otherwise . . .” Rhys demands what he is going to do about it, stressing that he is not scared.
Julie notices them, facing up to each other, as Garry grabs him, and pins him against the wall. Rhys taunts him, “Come on then, hit me, if it will make you feel better!”
"Garry – stop it!" |
Dani has come out of the pub and orders Garry to stop it; he goes back into the Deri.
