Chester ignores another phone call . . .

In the Deri flat, Chester’s phone rings once again, and when he does not answer it,

. . . and infuriates Dani

Dani threatens to throw it down the toilet. “Seren didn’t sleep too well,” she says, and he reminds her that Garry has left her.

"He hasn't left me!"

“He hasn’t left me!” she shouts, and tells him to shut up or she will become violent; he decides that he is going out.

"I just don't understand where Garry is!"

Gethin walks in, and Dani wails, “I just don’t understand where Garry is – who books a flight and doesn’t fly? I know that because when I phone him there isn’t an abroad ring tone.”

"Perhaps he hasn't taken his phone"

Gethin suggests that he has not taken his phone with him, but she laughs, “Garry can’t live without his phone! Britt knows something, too – and Colin is like a Rottweiler, stopping everyone from seeing her.

Dani's mind is made up

“Britt pretending to be ill is an excuse to hide the truth – but she can’t hide any longer – I’m going to sort this out once and for all!”

Julie enters the salon . . .

Julie unlocks the door of the salon and rather hesitantly goes inside;

. . . looks around at everything . . .

she looks around, and sees Sheryl’s belongings,

. . . symbolically closing the appointment book

closes her appointment book

A towel is replaced on the shelf

and folds up a towel. Then she goes through into the back room,

Then she gets a shock . . .

and is shocked to see an intruder cowering there –

. . . when she sees Garry, cowering in the corner

Garry, sitting on the floor, with a tearful, haunted look on his face.

"Hello, Britt!"

Britt, in the chip shop flat, is surprised by the entry of Dani, who let herself in with Garry’s key, and wants to know where he is. “You’ve got no right to walk into my home!” Britt replies,

"I don't know where he is"

“And, in any case, I don’t know where he is!”

Seeing the bruise on her face, Dani asks what happened; Britt replies that she tripped, but Dani expresses serious doubt about this.

"What's wrong with everyone – Chester didn't do it!"

“What’s wrong with everyone – Chester didn’t do it!” she insists, “Who did you think it was?”
Dani tells her it would explain why Garry has disappeared, but Britt is quite certain that Garry would never touch her.

"All the signs are there!"

“Not even if you knew the truth?” queries Dani, “You know what I’m talking about – all the signs are there. He’s hiding things, acting odd, he stares at the flowers outside the salon – why did he go to see Hywel on Friday, and then book a flight to America?

"He's run away because he's guilty!"

“He’s disappeared – he’s run away, because he’s guilty!”

"He's grieving – that's what it is"

Britt’s response is that he is grieving, and Dani wishes she would stop defending him all the time; Britt is adamant, “Garry would never hit Sheryl,” but she is reminded that he hit her for years.

"Garry's not a murderer, right?"

“Listen to me – Garry’s not a murderer, right?” Britt snarls, “And you should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking such a thing!”

"Tell me what you're doing here!"

Julie demands that Garry start talking and tell her what he is doing there, or she will call the police.

"I needed to be here"

He tells her, “I needed to be here – I’m sorry, Julie. If only I’d kept my mouth shut, and not gone to talk to Hywel.” She wants to know what he spoke to that pig about.

"I never intended her to get hurt this time"

“I thought the world of Sheryl,” he continues, “And I know that I hurt her in the past – a lot. But I never intended her to get hurt this time.”

"What did you say to Hywel?"

He is making no sense to Julie, and she asks what he said to Hywel. He picks up his bag and leaves.

Some cleaning needs to be done at Bryntirion

Kath and Non return to Bryntirion, after the guests have gone; they only have to make the beds and polish here and there, clean the bathroom,

"This is the easiest money I've ever made!"

and Kath makes a start on tidying the furniture. “This is the easiest money I’ve ever made!” she comments.

"I'll never do anything like that again"

Non hopes that they do not get caught, and is determined not to do anything like this again; this was a one-off to pay the electricity bill.

"No need to rush into decisions"

Kath says there is no need to rush into decisions, and the money is too good to refuse; “When exactly is your boyfriend coming back?” she asks, and Non interprets this to mean how much longer has she got to take advantage.

"I'm doing Diane a favour"

“The house is empty – every burglar in the area knows it – I am doing Diane a favour by getting people to stay here,” declares Kath, but Non remains unconvinced. “And it’s helping us out of a financial hole, isn’t it?” Kath goes on.

"We're taking advantage and deceiving friends"

Non is not happy, carrying on with this; “We’re taking advantage and deceiving friends,” but Kath reminds her who opened the account in the first place. “I helped you because I thought you were doing this once – I’m going to close the account!” Non insists, but Kath points out that it is rather late for that, as more guests, from Birmingham, are arriving this afternoon.

Non is set to work by Kath

She hands some cleaning materials to Non and wants the place sparkling by 3:00pm.

Chester is sitting at the bar in the Deri, looking at his phone when Dani informs him, “Go and pack!”

"You can't throw me out!"

He replies that she cannot throw him out as this pub belongs to his mother and Garry – they decide who stays. “But Garry’s not here –

"I know what you did!"

“and I know what you did! Hit your mother! Are you proud of yourself? So, I don’t want you, or your fists, near Seren – do you hear?”

Although Chester is determined that he is not going anywhere, she instructs him, “Go and pack now!”

Chester knocks into Julie

He storms back upstairs, on the way barging into Julie, who is on her way in.

"I've just had the strangest chat with Garry"

She tells Gethin that the problem is Garry; “I’ve just had the strangest chat with him –

"He obviously knows more than he says"

“he’d broken into the salon, and was going on and on about Hywel, not making any sense. I was hoping that he was here, because he obviously knows more than he is saying.”

Dani is very perplexed

Dani is extremely confused.

Garry wants advice from Elgan

Garry goes to see Elgan, in urgent need of his advice; he is invited to sit down.

"Phone me at once!"

Britt is still trying to contact Garry, and leaves a message to phone her at once.

"You never answer your phone these days"

Chester creeps into the flat, and she tells him, “You and Garry are the same – you never answer your phones these days.

Britt tries to be upbeat

“It’s nice to see you.” He says nothing.

"I can't stand losing control like this!"

Garry explains, “I can’t stand it – losing control like this!” Elgan tells him that it helps that he has started to talk. “I just feel so guilty – and then, to make things worse, I ran away and left Dani,

"I couldn't even run away properly!"

“because I didn’t have the guts to talk to her, and admit what I did. I couldn’t even run away properly – the further I got, the more I wanted to come back.”

Elgan commiserates with him

Elgan can understand that, as the past is always there, but Garry wants to know what to do. “It’s important that you’re honest with yourself and everyone else. I have so much I could tell Sofia, but there’s so many years since then.

"Go and talk to Dani"

“It’s not too late for you – go and talk to Dani – tell her exactly what you’ve just told me.”

"But she will never forgive me!"

Garry protests, “I’m responsible for the death of one of her best friends – she will never forgive me.” He is told that he will never know if he does not try.

"Right, I have to call the police!"

“I don’t have any choice – I have to call the police!” exclaims Dani, but Gethin tries to calm her down.

"You heard what Julie said"

“You heard what Julie said – he knows more than he says. I’ve been worried that Chester is a danger to Seren, but I’ve allowed Garry . . .”

"Seren is safe with Garry"

Gethin is confident that she is safe with him, as he is her father, and tells her she cannot suspect him.

"They says a murderer always returns!"

She demands, “Why would he go off, then come back and break into the salon? They say a murderer always returns!”

"Come on – you're not thinking straight"

He insists that she is not thinking straight, and makes her sit down;

"If he's so innocent, where is he?"

“OK, then, if he is so innocent, where is he?” she begins,

Gethin repeats his mantra about Hywel being guilty

but Gethin once more states that Hywel killed Sheryl, and he has to pay for what he did. She will not accept this,

"What if Hywel is telling the truth?"

but asks, “What if Hywel is telling the truth and he is being wrongly blamed?”

Gethin is quite adamant that she must not phone the police now, as they might release Hywel – and that is the last thing they want. She is equally determined that she cannot sit there doing nothing,

"Well, wait until we find Garry"

but he begs her to at least wait until they find Garry, and listen to what he has to say. “I don’t want you to make a fool of yourself,” he says, “You know I’m talking sense!”

"Sorry, I can't come to the funeral"

In the Deri, Eileen tells Julie that she will not be able to come to the funeral, as she has a hospital appointment to check on the baby. Kath comes in and cannot resist saying that she is celebrating;

"We're celebrating someone having a boyfriend"

then she realises what she said and maintains that it is only about Non having a boyfriend, who has been sending her postcards.

"We need a blooming JCB to carry the postcards!"

“We shall need a blooming JCB to carry all the postcards he’s been sending!”

Eileen thinks that it is very romantic gesture, and then Non and Sioned go to the bar.

"I don't know anything any more!"

Julie says that she is very confused; “I dont know anything any more.”

"I was phoning to make sure you were all right"

“I was phoning you to make sure you were all right,” Britt tells Chester,

"I was not the one who got hurt"

but he points out that he was not the one who was hurt. She dismisses it as an accident, but he replies that it was his fault;

"If I hadn't argued with you and got angry . . ."

if he had not argued with her and got angry, it would not have happened,

"We can forget all about it"

but she still wants to forget all about it.

“How can I forget? You’ve got a bruise on your face!” he rages, but his mother says it will have disappeared in a couple of days.

"I want to take responsibility!"

“I can’t believe this,” he goes on, “You pretending that everything is all right – I want to take responsibility! When are you going to stop this, Mam? You make excuses for me all the time!” He rushes out of the flat.

"How do you know you've met the right man?"

Non wonders if she can ask Sioned a personal question; “How do you know that you’ve met the right man?”

"Talking about DJ, are we?"

Sioned assumes that they are talking about DJ here, and Non continues, “I thought he was the one – but all these postcards are scaring me – I don’t like a fuss.”

Sioned assures her that DJ thinks the world of her,
