"Gaynor did not know what to say"
In the café, Ffion tells Gethin that she saw Esther, who was asking about her father, but Gaynor did not know what to say to her;  “How do you tell a child that her father is never coming back?”
"Assuming he is guilty!"
Kelly brings over their drinks and comments, “Assuming he is guilty!”   Kath is nearby and asks Kelly if she thinks he is guilty;
"It could be anyone, Kath"
“Not necessarily – it could be anyone, or more than one person,” is the reply, and Kath fears that whoever it is could be anywhere.
Kelly appears to have her suspicions
Kelly looks suspiciously at Ffion and Gethin.
Then they notice Julie across the road, and Ffion advises Gethin to make himself scarce,
"I have to face her some time"
but he resolves he has to face her some time.   Julie lays some flowers with all the other floral tributes outside the salon.
"I'm so sorry, Julie"
Kath goes across and offers her condolences;  “I couldn’t face coming until now,” Julie tells her, “The last time I was here was her wedding day – but I had no choice – I’m the next of kin after Hywel,
"Someone has to organise the funeral"
“and someone has to organise the funeral.”
Gethin approaches . . .
Gethin approaches them, but does not receive a cordial welcome from Julie;  “You’re not sorry – you killed her!
. . . and is spat upon
“Murderer!” she snarls, and spits in his face.
"Don't let her see you and Gethin together"
Ffion sees what is going on from inside the café, but Kelly warns her not to let Julie see her and Gethin together;
"It looks as if you're back together"
“Imagine how it looks – as if you’re back together.”
"We're not together!"
Ffion protests that they are not together, but Kelly advises her not to give people the wrong impression;  “They’ll think it has all turned out very conveniently.   I’m not suggesting you planned all this – but others might!”
"If the cap fits, Ed . . ."
As Ffion rushes out, Ed protests at what Kelly has just said, but her retort is, “If the cap fits, Ed – why are they back together all of a sudden?”
In the street Ffion asks Gethin if he is all right;
"Would you be if someone called you a murderer?"
he replies, “Would you be if someone called you a murderer?”   They go to Cysgod y Glyn.
Julie arrives at Maes-y-Deri
Kath takes Julie to Maes-y-Deri, where Mark also offers his condolences,
"Of course you can stay here"
but is not very happy to hear that Kath has offered her a place to stay.   She assures Julie that they have room for her,
Mark is not in favour of this
despite Mark shaking his head.
"I couldn't face the salon flat on my own"
Julie is very appreciative, as she could not face the salon flat on her own.   We hear the news that Ricky is going to Spain in the near future.
“Did you know that Esther was staying with Gaynor?” Julie asks, “It’s not right – Esther doesn’t know her.
"She should be with me – I'm her grandmother!"
“She should be with me – I’m her grandmother.   Gaynor shouldn’t have taken her – and I’ll tell her that!”   Kath suggests that she goes upstairs for a lie down.
"Your face is as bitter as a lemon!"
When she has gone, Kath tells Mark that his face is as bitter as a lemon,
"She shouldn't be staying here"
and he maintains that she should not be staying there;  “Debbie is planning a garden party for Ricky tomorrow!” but his mother says she could hardly throw Julie out.
"It's better if we are not seen together"
At Cysgod y Glyn, Gethin says that Julie is only saying what everyone else is thinking;  Ffion considers that it would be better if they were not seen together, as she does not think it is a good idea.
"People might think it's suspicious"
“People might think it’s strange, it’s suspicious.”   Gethin points out that they have charged Hywel, but doubts that Ffion believes he did it.   She does not want to discuss the matter.
“What about what I want?” he demands,
"You got what you wanted with Sheryl!"
and she snarls that he got that with Sheryl.   She cannot forgive him, or Sheryl either.
Gethin's demeanour turns threatening
He ominously warns her, “You’ll face everything alone if you turn your back on me now!” but she is confident that she can cope.
He insists that they need each other, but she is quite adamant, “No – you need me –
"You're on your own now!"
“but you’re on your own now!”   He cannot believe what she has said, and leaves the flat.
"What if it was Ffion and Gethin ?"
In the café, Kelly is theorising, “What if Ffion and Gethin killed Sheryl together?   Perhaps Ffion did it, out of jealousy – and Gethin is helping with the cover-up.   Surely if there’s a miscarriage of justice, you’d want to sort it out.”
"You can't go round accusing people!"
Ed’s reply is that she cannot go around accusing people, but Kelly is not deterred, and continues,
"Or Gaynor . . . or Gwyneth"
“Or Gaynor, because Sheryl stole her husband?   Gwyneth, maybe, because Sheryl threw her out of the flat?”
"Murder is not a game. Kelly!"
Ed roars that murder is not a game,
"I'm not playing a game"
but she insists she is not playing a game.
Gethin does some thinking
Gethin is back in the Deri flat, and looks at the money raising efforts of Gwern and his friend, which cause him to think.
Julie wants to collect Esther there and then
Julie comes to Llwyncelyn to collect Esther, but she is asleep at the moment, and in any case, Gaynor stedfastly refuses to hand her over.
"I'm Esther's grandmother!"
Julie points out that she is Esther’s grandmother, but Gaynor replies that Hywel left Esther in her care.
“But he’s a murderer!” rages Julie.
Gaynor is having none of it
Gaynor stresses that it has not been proven, and he is still her father.   “But if he killed Sheryl, he’s not fit to be her father – she should be with me!” Julie insists, but Gaynor’s answer is the same.
Then Julie looks for sympathy . . .
Then Julie changes tack;  “The last time I saw Sheryl, I refused to babysit for them, to allow them to go on honeymoon – I feel so guilty.   I want to do the right thing for Esther now.”   Gaynor is sympathetic, but that little girl has been through so much,
. . . but again Gaynor does not fall for it
she is not willing to unsettle her to ease Julie’s feelings of guilt.
“It is not fair on Esther, and I’m not prepared to do it!” is Gaynor’s conclusion, and she thinks it is time that Julie left.
Julie embarks on a sit-down protest
Julie, however, has different ideas;  she sits at the bottom of the stairs
Gaynor is worried by her determination
and declares, “I am staying here until you change your mind!”
"You need to cool down, Kelly"
Ed tells Kelly that she is the one who needs to cool down, and should leave it to the police;  Mark comes in with the post,
Kelly seeks backing from Mark
and Kelly asks him to tell Ed that it is important for the right person to be convicted of Sheryl’s murder.
"Kelly thinks she knows better than the police"
Ed maintains that Kelly thinks she knows better than the police, and according to her, Ffion and Gethin are the prime suspects.
"People thought I was a murderer once!'
“People thought I was a murderer once!” Mark tells them, and leaves.
"And everyone was wrong about that"
Ed reminds Kelly that everyone was wrong about that, and warns her that she cannot treat this as some kind of hobby, as real people are involved.
"Sorry, Ed – I didn't think!'
She is sorry and explains that she just did not think.
Julie's protest continues
Julie is still at the foot of the stairs, but Gaynor emphasises that she will have to leave at some point,
"I don't want to phone the police"
and that she does not want to phone the police.   “I want to see Esther!” is Julie’s demand, but is told that Hywel left her in Gaynor’s care, and she intends to look after her.
"You're talking about a murderer!"
“Hywel!   You’re talking about a murderer!” Julie rants, and Gaynor reminds her that Gethin and that Sheryl were deceiving people, so they are obvious suspects.
Julie however insists that Gethin would never kill Sheryl, and remarks upon Gaynor’s loyalty to Hywel;
"You're probably glad Sheryl's dead!"
“You’re probably glad Sheryl’s dead, so that you can have him back!”
"I don't want him!"
Gaynor makes it perfectly clear that she does not want him, but Julie suspects they are both in it together, as there has been a void in her life since Hywel left her for Sheryl.
"There was obviously a void in Sheryl's life!"
Gaynor snarls, “There was obviously a void in Sheryl’s life – stealing other people’s partners whenever she fancied.   She always played with fire!   It was a terrible way to behave!”
"Is that what everyone thinks?"
Julie fears that is the way everyone thinks, and Gaynor again tells her that it is time to leave – and this time she does.
"Sorry, Ffion, but I got carried away"
Kelly goes round to see Ffion, and to apologise that she got carried away with her suspicions, but in her defence, she states, “You did say that you felt guilty.”
"My problems drove him into her arms"
Ffion replies that was because her problems drove Gethin into Sheryl’s arms, not because she killed her.
Kelly acknowledges that she got it wrong and is sorry;  Ffion ominously comments, “You’re stupid, aren’t you?
"I might be the murderer – and you're here on your own!"
“Well, I might be the murderer – and you’re here on your own!”
"I think it's about time I got back!"
Kelly appears frightened and that says that she had better go;  “Just in case,” adds Ffion.
A study of Kelly's legs
On her way down the street, Kelly meets Julie, who is looking at the cards left with the flowers outside the salon.   “I just want to say I’m sorry,” says Kelly.   Julie wonders if people mean what they have written about Sheryl, and Kelly replies that everyone liked her.
"Not everyone – someone killed her!"
“Not everyone – someone killed her!” Julie growls, and Kelly comments that people sometimes kill the ones they love.   “Hywel did love Sheryl,” Julie tells her,
They realise they are being watched . . .
and as Kelly turns to go, they notice Gethin watching them
. . . by a face in the window
from an upstairs window at the Deri.
“Who do you think did it?” Julie asks,
"I don't know – I just run the  café"
and Kelly admits that she does not know – she just runs the café – and walks away.   She returns to the café
"Julie is in a terrible state"
and reports to Ed that Julie is in an awful state, as was Ffion, but that is understandable.
"Ed, I'm really sorry"
“Ed, I’m really sorry – it was just, sort of, I don’t know, a distraction.   Running this place is a lot more difficult than I expected.”
Ffion is very apologetic
Then Ffion arrives, in a more conciliatory mood, apologising for earlier, but Kelly replies that she deserved it.
“We’re all in a difficult position,” admits Ffion, “It’s only natural to be suspicious of people – but Hywel was dragged from his home, and poor Esther . . .
"If they suspected me, what would happen to Arwen?"
If the police suspected me, what would happen to Arwen?   If you forgive me, I’ll forgive you.”
"Milkshake – on the house?"
Kelly agrees, and offers her a milkshake on the house;  Ed goes to prepare it,
"Do you think Hywel did it?"
while Ffion and Kelly sit down at a table.
“Tell me if you don’t want to talk about this, but do you think Hywel did it?” Kelly asks,
"There's no-one else it could be"
and Ffion says that she really does not want to believe it, but there is no-one else it could be. “Plus, if it wasn’t him, the real killer is still out there,” adds Kelly.
Gethin comes to see Julie
At Maes-y-Deri, there is a knock on the door, and Gethin arrives, wanting to talk to Julie, although Kath is a doubtful whether she will want to see him.   She goes to find out, and then invites Gethin to go in.
"Shall be go to the Deri?"
Mark and his mother decide to make themselves scarce and go to the Deri.
"I know you think it's my fault"
Gethin says, “Julie, I know you think it’s my fault,” and she agrees that if he had not had an affair with her, she would still be alive.
"It was you!   You killed Sheryl!"
Then she realises, “It was you!   You killed Sheryl!”
"I loved her more than anything in the world!"
He protests that she is wrong, and that he loved her more than anything in the world.   “We sometimes hurt the people we love,” Julie remarks,
"Do you think what they have written is true?"
“Do you think the things people have written here are true?”
"Everyone loved Sheryl"
She reads that everyone loved Sheryl, and Gethin tries to convince her,
"She was everything to me!"
“Sheryl was the most loving, bubbly person I’ve ever known.   She was everything to me – and I can’t believe she’s gone.
"How can I go on without her?"
“I don’t really know how I can go on without her,” he says, dissolving into tears.
Julie hugs him
“Nor do I,” says Julie, as she hugs him.
