21 August 2018

Loud snoring is heard in the shop flat
In the shop flat, Eifion and Jim are snoring noisily, with several empty bottles on the table in front of them;
Eifion is woken by Mathew
they are rudely awakened by Mathew, who admonishes them that the shop door was open, and anyone could have walked in.
Jim demands what he is doing there,
Jim suddenly realises where he is
and is somewhat disconcerted to find that his head is leaning on Eifion’s shoulder.   “I’m helping out at APD – Dai phoned me,” says Mathew, “We need an extra pair of hands, looking at the state of you!”
"We were expecting a delivery this morning"
Jim realises that it is a quarter to nine, and they were expecting a delivery this morning;  he knows that Eileen will be worried, and cannot remember why they got into that state.
Mathew orders Eifion to go and have a shower while he clears up;
"I shall need a bucketful of coffee!"
Eifion tells him he will need a bucketful of coffee.
"I wasn't expecting this!"
“I thought you would be in a mess after Cadno left, but I wasn’t expecting this!” Mathew complains, “Everyone in the family knows!”
Eifion looks very worried
Eifion looks very concerned.
"I have to go out, Rhys"
At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor has to go out, and tells Rhys that Ffion and Arwen are coming round to play with Esther, while he goes to see his father.   Their visitors arrive, and Ffion says that it is important that Esther gets the chance to play;
Ffion and Arwen arrive to amuse Esther
Arwen is eager to play with her.
Rhys tells Ffion that he is going to see Hywel, and acts rather strangely;
"I'll give him your regards, shall I?"
“I’ll give him your regards, shall I?” he mutters, cryptically,
Ffion is confused
leaving Ffion confused.
"Jason is furious with you!"
As Jim comes out of the cafĂ©, with a cup of coffee, Gethin tells him that Jason is furious;  “Big night last night?” he enquires.
"Everything has worked out for you, hasn't it?"
Then Gethin meets Rhys, who says, “Everything has worked out for you, hasn’t it?   Dad – in prison!”   Gethin realises that Rhys is very upset,
"Be careful what you say, Rhys!"
but warns him to be careful what he says, adding that he is just making a fool of himself.
"If you hadn't messed around with Sheryl . . ."
“If you hadn’t messed around with Sheryl, it wouldn’t have happened!” Rhys shouts after him, “Someone’s lying – and I’m going to find out who!”
"Did I hear Rhys shouting at you?"
Dani is waiting outside the garage for Gethin, who tells her that Rhys has got it into his head that Hywel is innocent;  “Of course he hasn’t got any evidence.   You must be eager to see me if you were willing to wait outside.”
Rhys does a spot of eavesdropping
Meanwhile, Rhys is approaching the garage, and waits out of sight around the corner, while listening to their conversation.
"Garry and I are planning to go to America – for six months"
“I want a big favour,” Dani begins, “Garry and I are planning on going to America – for about six months.   I know it’s a long time – and Garry is willing to get someone in to help you.”
"Sheryl and I might have been able to go away"
Gethin interrupts her, “If things had worked out differently, Sheryl and I might have been able to go away, too.”
"Garry's desperate to go away"
She knows that it is not a good time, but Garry is desperate to go away.
Rhys regards this as significant
Just outside, Rhys is looking very suspicious,
"You should go, Dan"
and he walks away as Gethin agrees that she should go.
In the shop, Eifion is glad that Mathew came to wake them up;  “It was Cadno’s birthday yesterday – an excuse for a session!” he explains,
"Things haven't been special since she left"
“Things haven’t been special since she left,” and Mathew reveals that he knows all about this, as he phoned her yesterday to wish her happy birthday.   Eifion confirms that a lot has changed, and wonders what exactly she told him.
"I know all about you, good boy!"
“Everything,” Mathew replies, “I know all about you, good boy!” but before he can explain further, there is a knock at the door,
Eifion opens the shop
and Eifion opens up the shop to admit Julie.   As Mathew leaves, he promises, “I’ll be back later to finish this chat!”
"Come on, Jim – you're not pulling your weight!"
Jason moans that Jim is not pulling his weight at APD;  Jim replies that help is on the way, in the form of Mathew.
"Him?   After the mess he made in the vestry?"
“You’re joking – him!” rages Jason, “After the mess he made in the vestry?   We don’t need his help – You should have checked with me first!”
"Dai offered me a job, and here I am"
Mathew informs him that Dai made the decision;  “He said you’re short-staffed, offered me a job, and here I am.   What shall I do first?”
"You can bring in the boxes, for a start"
Jim puts him to work, bringing in some boxes.
"They've been no trouble"
Gaynor returns home, and Ffion tells her, “They’ve played all morning, and been no trouble – which is more than I can say for Rhys!
"Rhys was a bit cold towards me"
“I got the feeling he was a bit cold towards me this morning, but perhaps I’m imagining it.”
"Well, his father has been framed"
Gaynor comments that it is hardly surprising, as his father has been framed;  “And you’re happy to let him believe that, are you?” Ffion replies,
"You should make him believe Hywel could be guilty!"
“You have a responsibility to make him believe Hywel could be guilty!”   Gaynor considers they have a responsibility to support both Rhys and Hywel, and notices that Ffion is very keen to point the finger.   She thinks that it is time to go.
"Dani and Garry are going to America for six months!"
In the prison, Hywel is pleased to see Rhys, who cannot wait to tell his father, “I heard Dani and Gethin talking this morning – Dani and Garry are going to America, not just on holiday, but for six months!
Hywel does not want to believe that Garry is behind it
“It’s obvious that Garry is behind it, and he wants to leave as soon as possible.
"No-one goes away at such short notice"
“No-one drops everything and goes away at such short notice, do they?”
Hywel dismisses the idea,
"He said he'd do anything to help me!"
but then remembers, “He told me that night that the time for reasoning was over – that I should fight back, and he would do anything to help me – anything!”
Jason leaves a complaining message for Dai
Jason rings Dai to complain bitterly about Mathew’s arrival;  he leaves a message, “I wish you would check with me, instead of Matthew just landing without warning!
"Phone me back1'
“Phone me back!”
Jim cannot understand what he is making so much fuss – he should be thanking Dai, not complaining.
"Right, that's the cement bags done'
Mathew has been working hard, shifting cement bags, and is told to dispose of some empty boxes.   Jim asks what he got up to in Cardiff,
"I worked behind a bar in Cardiff"
and is told that Mathew worked behind a bar;  he was happy there, but then they had a new manager.
"Did you sleep with his wife?"
Jason immediately enquires, “Did you sleep with his wife?” and laughs.
Mathew continues that he had a job in a club, but the hours were terrible, and the customers were worse;
"So Dai's phone call came at the ideal time"
he was getting fed up when Dai’s phone call came.   Jim tells him that this business has hit Eifion really hard, but Mathew agrees to keep an eye on him.
"Unfortunately it all makes sense"
“There was history between them, Garry and Sheryl – and, unfortunately, it all makes sense,” says Hywel, “The terrible thing is – if Garry did it –
"I was happy to accuse Ffion and Gethin!"
“maybe he did it, thinking he was doing me a favour.   Why didn’t I see that sooner?   I was happy to accuse Ffion and Gethin!”
"I more or less accused Gethin this morning"
Rhys admits he more or less accused Gethin this morning – he could not help it;  “Don’t make the same mistake with Garry,” his father cautions him,
"Garry is not someone you should cross"
“Garry is not someone you should cross – leave him to me.   I don’t know how I shall handle it, but I’ll think of something
Gaynor is not complimentary about Gethin
Gaynor takes Esther out for a walk and meets Gethin, who asks after her;  “She won’t be any better after your gimmick of collecting money for her!” she snarls at him, and continues walking.
"Who does that Gaynor think she is?"
Julie is nearby and wonders who Gaynor thinks she is;  then her phone rings,
She learns that Sheryl's body has been released
and she is given the news that they have released Sheryl’s body, and she does not know what to do.
Gethin will help her with the arrangements
Gethin assures her that he will help with the arrangements, and that they will get through this together.
Julie does not want to talk to Dani
Dani approaches, but Julie says she has no time to talk and hurries away.
"I had a late night"
Ffion and Arwen go into the shop, and Eifion explains that he had a late night.
Arwen does not look her usual bubbly self . . .
Ffion says that Arwen is not herself, with all the recent happenings, and Eifion appreciates that it cannot be easy for her either.   He puts a couple of bars of chocolate into Ffion’s bag,
. . . but chocolate cheers her up
and Arwen dutifully thanks him.
Ffion cannot get out of the shop quickly enough
Gethin walks into the shop, and Ffion is in a hurry to leave.
"I couldn't bear it a moment longer!"
When Jason reaches home, he tells Sara that he could not bear it a moment longer;  “Mathew and Jim, jabbering on all morning –
"Dai offered him a job!"
“Dai offered Mathew a job!   It makes no sense!”
Sara is about to tell him something
Sara is about to tell him something, when his phone rings;
"Look, about employing Mathew . . ."
“Dai!   So you’ve found time to respond to all the messages I’ve left, then!   Look, about employing Mathew, I know we have a lot on, but . . . what?
"She didn't say anything to me!"
“And what has this to do with Sara?   Right, I see – well she didn’t say anything to me!   I’m sorry, Dai.”
"I told him you could not cope"
Sara informs him that Dai phoned last week and caught her at a weak moment.   “I told him that you’re very busy, and could not cope – you couldn’t have carried on much longer – Dai’s not back for a month!”
"So you had to interfere!"
Jason is angry that until then he has to listen to Mathew and Jim, and is not happy that she interfered.
Jim brings lunchtime pasties
Jim comes into the shop with some pasties for Eifion and Mathew;
"Spicy curry on on a dodgy stomach – bad idea!"
he does regret consuming such a spicy curry on a dodgy stomach.   Eifion agrees that Mathew can stay with him, and Jim returns to APD.
"Are you afraid someone will hear?"
“Shut the door, then,” says Eifion, and Mathew wonders if he is afraid someone will hear what he has to say.
"Come on then – what have you heard?"
“Come on then – what have you heard?” Eifion asks.
"Who is this woman you've been messing around with?"
“The truth – that you had the affair, not Cadno,” replies Mathew, “Who is she, then – this woman that you’ve been messing around with?”
"It's no-one you know"
Eifion is puzzled, says it is no one he knows, and anyway it is over now.   Mathew remarks, “It’s not safe to leave you for five minutes –
"It's lucky I'm back to keep an eye on you"
“it’s lucky I’m back to keep an eye on you!”   Eifion points out that his track record is not great, either.
"Shall I ring the funeral director?"
Back at Maes-y-Deri, Gethin asks if Julie wants him to ring the funeral director,
"No, that's my job"
but she says that it is her job;  he advises her to wait until after lunch, so she can calm down, and he will stay there.
"People could be a little less harsh on me"
He sits down, and says that people could be a little less harsh on him;  she will make him a sandwich for lunch.
"I understand what Sheryl saw in you"
As he sits with tears in his eyes, Julie remarks, “I understand what Sheryl saw in you – you’ve got a big heart.   You could have been very happy together.”
"All I wanted was for her to be happy"
He agrees, and says that all he wanted was for her to be happy, then breaks down into floods of tears.
"Only a month ago, Sheryl and I were planning to go away"
He says, “Today I heard that Garry and Dani are planning to go on holiday – only a month ago, Sheryl and I were planning to go away – and now we’re organising her funeral!
"If only she had agreed to come"
“If only she had agreed to come, she would still be alive.”
"We'll get through this together!"
Julie assures him that it is not his fault, and that they will get through it together.
