"Right, I'll collect it tomorrow"

Dani is on the phone, and agrees to collect something tomorrow;  

Dani has more leaflets to deliver

Garry comes in with more of the invitations and tell her they need to be distributed.   She suggests that they can go out for a walk, as he has been busy with work, but he replies not in the mood to relax.

Dani points out that he has been sent a couple of Valentines cards, 

"Do you really want to change Carol's name?"

and asks, “Do you really want to change Carol’s name?”  

"Of course!"

He is emphatic that he does, then deliberately picks up one of the cards 

Garry make s a show of tearing up the card . . .

and tears it into pieces, throwing them at Dani.   

. . . then turns his back on Dani

He walks away.

"We miss you so much!"

Sara is speaking to Jason on the phone, and tells him it is difficult;  “I miss you so much – well, we miss you so much.”   Ifan is reluctant to speak to Dadi.

"Arthur gave his card to his teacher"

Cadno has had a Valentine’s card from Bobi, but apparently Arthur gave his to one of his teachers.   Eifion asks if a party in the Deri will do instead of a card.   She admonishes him, as they are supposed to be saving money.   

Cadno has a phone call

Then the phone rings, and Cadno is informed that Bob Gwern Isaf has died, after being ill for a while;  

"We shall have to find a new tenant"

“Now we shall have to find a new tenant,” she sighs, 

The news causes Eifion some anguish

and Eifion looks very downhearted.   She goes to iron a dress for the party tonight. 

Gwen is on duty in the café today

In the café, Gwen serves Gethin with his coffee;  

"Are you free tonight, Sher?"

then he sidles across to Sheryl, asking if she is free tonight.   

Hywel has booked a table somewhere else

They are interrupted by the arrival of Hywel, who has booked a table for tonight at a pub with a play area for Esther.   

'"I arranged to go out with the girls"

Sheryl protests that she had arranged to go out with the girls, and he comments that she does not seem very enthusiastic,

Dani hands out party invitations

Dani comes in, handing out the invitations to the party in the Deri;  

"Everything is fine, Geth

she tells Gethin that everything is fine.   When Dani has hurried away, 

"It's not like Garry to forgive and forget!"

Sheryl remarks that it is not like Garry to forgive and forget.   Hywel makes the telling comment, “No husband enjoys being made a fool of by his wife!”

The card reads 'SORI'

DJ is surprised to receive a Valentine’s card bearing the single word ‘sorry’;  

Chester is full of abject apologies

when Chester slinks into the room, DJ informs him that it is too late now.   “I was stupid.   I really appreciate you taking me out,” begs Chester, “Please forgive me!   I’ll make it up to you – I’ll do some jobs for you!”   

"I'll make sure he keeps his word!"

Hannah confirms that she will ensure that he keeps his word.

As DJ has a lot of deliveries to make this afternoon, he agrees that Chester can come and help him out.   

DJ soon caves in

“You can drive me around,”  but acknowledges that he is just too soft.

"Shouldn't the creditors get paid first?"

Eifion is on the phone, demanding, “Shouldn’t the creditors get paid first?   What am I supposed to do?   I need that money now – I can’t wait!”   

Cadno is eavesdropping

Cadno is listening to this conversation.

"Just a supplier who wants to put the price up"

She asks if there is a problem, and he denies this;  “How long have we been together?” Cadno enquires, 

"Still think you can keep secrets from me?"

“It must be 20 years, and you still think you can keep secrets from me.”

"I let it slide for a few months"

At last he confesses that Bob Gwern Isaf owed them money – he could not pay the rent so Eifion let it slide for a few months, as he was ill.   This angers Cadno, who says she should have been told about it, and refuses to go to the Valentine’s event.   

"Go and get your money back!"

“Go and get your money back – we need every penny now!”

Dani is keen to get Ffion's answer

Ffion receives a message from Dani, asking if she has made a decision about the money;  then Gethin comes in 

A sign of Gethin's guilty conscience

and presents her with a bouquet of flowers.   She is rather quiet, 

"Worried about Arwen's appointment?"

and Gethin assumes that she is worried about Arwen’s appointment tomorrow.   

"If you'd seen her racing round the park"

“It’s only a routine appointment, and if you’d seen how she was racing around the park yesterday – I couldn’t keep up with her,” he says, “Elinor is babysitting, and we’re going to the Valentine’s night in the Deri.”

"I don't want to go, Geth!"

Ffion protests that they usually have a takeaway and a film, but Gethin replies that he wants to support Dani, and also keep an eye on Garry.   

"I want to spoil you"

“We haven’t been out for ages – I want to spoil you,” he says.

Chester reports that he behaved himself this time

Chester and DJ arrive back after the deliveries in the Awyr Iach van, with its D plates, and Hannah is pleased that there were no complications.   

DJ will be taking precautions

“I’ll make sure I go to the toilet before every lesson from now on,” promises DJ.

"He's not insured!"

Sara takes exception to the company van being driven by a learner;  “But he’s not insured!   You need special insurance for that – 

DJ seems to be in trouble this time

“if the police had stopped you, the company would have been fined!”   

"I might stop it from your wages!"

She threatens to stop it from DJ’s wages.

"Want your money back?   Tough!"

Garry refuses to reimburse the price of Cadno’s party ticket, so Eifion decides he will have to have both lots of drinks.   

Ffion and Gethin arrive . . .

Ffion and Gethin arrive and go over to where Hywel and Sheryl are sitting.   

. . . and again gravitate towards Sheryl and Hywel 

Hywel explains that he found a last minute babysitter, as Sheryl wanted to come here, then invites Ffion and Gethin to join them.   

Dani brings their drinks, 

"Your place is with the baby!"

but then Garry demands why she is in the bar;  “Your place is with the baby!” he instructs her,  

"I've got the baby monitor!"

but she replies that Carol is fine, and she has the baby monitor;  

Garry does not like her attitude

he looks furious.

"Aren't you ready for bed yet?"

Sara is half-heartedly preparing a meal, 

Obviously not

but Ifan shows no signs of being ready for bed;  DJ arrives to apologise for earlier.   

An apology from DJ

“I should have thought about the insurance,” he admits, and gives her a box of chocolates.   He thought it was a chance to get the deliveries done faster.

"Look what you've made me do!"

She suddenly realises that the food is burning;  “Look what you’ve made me do now!   It’s ruined!”   

"I'll cook the meal"

DJ diagnoses that she needs to rest, and insists that he will prepare the meal.   In a few minutes he will get Ifan to bed, and there will be a meal cooked for her.   

"Right, off you go and have your bath"

She concedes that she would not mind having a bath in peace.

Marital harmony behind the bar

In the Deri, Ffion muses upon the fact that both of the stern-faced characters behind the bar made mistakes, but Dani is the one who is suffering.   

"One rule for women and another for men!"

“I still think there is one rule for women and another for men!”   Hywel adds that it is obvious their marriage is in trouble.   “That’s the trouble with small villages – everyone knows everyone’s business!” Ffion goes on.

Gethin decides that he is going to the toilet, 

Sheryl heads in the same direction

and coincidentally, Sheryl does the same.   Eifion, who is by now rather unsteady on his feet, 

Eifion wants more red wine

orders another bottle of red wine, but Dani is of the opinion he has had enough.   

"I'm the landlord – serve him!"

She is however overruled by Garry, who orders her to serve him.

"Romantic dinner, is it, boys?"

Then Iolo and Tyler come in, Eifion makes a snide comment, and Iolo tells the pair of them to shake hands.   

"He did this!"

Eifion draws his attention to the injury which Tyler inflicted, 

"You shouldn't be allowed to adopt!"

and comments, “I don’t think someone who is so ready with his fists should be allowed to adopt!   

"Come on, then, if you want a fight!"

“Come on, if you want a fight!”

Garry tells them that is enough, 

"What if he tells the authorities?"

and Iolo is terrified that he will tell the authorities and cause problems with the adoption.   Tyler replies that in his state, Eifion will not even remember being in the Deri, let alone what he said.   Iolo is no longer hungry, and the two of them leave.

"I only came here to see you"

Sheryl tells Gethin that she only came here because she wanted to see him;  for some reason, he seems to be less keen today.

"I don't get much chance to sit down"

At number 9, Sara has enjoyed her meal, and complains that Ifan is into everything these days, meaning that she gets little chance to sit down.   

"I must be a natural"

She is amazed that Ifan went to sleep so quickly for DJ;  he concludes that he must be a natural.   

"I still miss Mam"

He reminisces that it is tough being an only child, and he still misses his mother.   

Sara thinks that Jason is enjoying himself in Australia, although DJ appreciates it must be hard for her, with him on the other side of the world.   

Sara starts to cry . . .

She begins to cry;  “I can’t hold him or hug him,” she sobs, but when DJ hugs her, 

. . . but then pushes DJ away

she pushes him away and says it is time he left.

Dani starts asserting herself

“Choose another name for the baby!” Garry instructs Dani, but she refuses.   

Eifion has difficulty standing up

Cadno marches in and informs Eifion she was expecting him home hours ago.   He is now more inebriated than ever, and suddenly throws up on the floor.

"I said he'd had enough!"

“I said he’d had enough!” rages Dani, but Garry simply tells her to clear it up.   This attracts the attention of many of the drinkers.  

Eifion staggers out of the Deri

Eifion staggers out of the pub, and once again Garry says, “What are you waiting for?   Go and get a cloth!”   

"That's Dani's job – clearing up the mess!"

Then he comments to Gethin, “That’s Dani’s job – clearing up the mess!”

Gethin knew that he would not forgive her so easily.   

Dani begins cleaning up

As she comes back with a mop and bucket, Garry takes great delight in leaning over the bar and encouraging her, “Come on Dani, chop chop!”

Hywel protests

By this time, several people are walking out, and Hywel protests at Garry’s treatment of Dani.   

"If you don't like it, you don't have to stay!"

“If you don’t like it, Hywel, you don’t have to stay!” is Garry’s reply.

"If you touch a hair on her head!"

“If you touch a hair on her head!” warns Gethin, 

Dani is humiliated

and he too leaves the Deri.
