As Diane is ironing, Chester complains, “It’s not fair – Mam and Colin promised me driving lessons, and now they’re too busy!”

Hannah replies that they will find someone to give him a lesson, and suggests Uncle David; Chester is against the idea, and Diane will not hear of it, either.
“I don’t want you hassling him – he’s only got one heart, and I don’t want that stopping,” she warns.

Hannah then asks Diane if she will do it;

"He doesn't want a woman teaching him to drive!" |
DJ has just walked in, and jokes that Chester does not want a woman teaching him to drive.

“What have you got on today?” Diane asks him, then tells Chester, “Go home to sort yourself out,

"'Driver of the year' will pick you up in half an hour" |
then ‘driver of the year’ will will pick you up in half an hour.”

DJ should have kept his mouth shut |
DJ is not very happy about the situation he has got himself into.
Hywel comes into the café and finds no-one behind the counter;

"Mark's coming home today" |
Ffion tells him that Mark is coming home today, but Kelly is here somewhere. She suddenly realises that she should be at school,

"What's wrong, Ffion?" |
and he can detect that something is wrong;

"Can you come to the flat this afternoon?" |
she asks him to come round to the flat this afternoon, as Arwen is at a party and Gethin will be out late.

"And don't mention it to Gethin" |
“And if you see Gethin, please don’t mention it,” she adds as she leaves.

Mark has been discharged from hospital |
With the aid of a walking stick, Mark arrives home at Maes-y-Deri, and is welcomed by his mother and Ricky.

"You'll be rattling with all these tablets!" |
Debbie says that he will be rattling, with the number of tablets he has to take.

"How is Non getting on?" |
Ricky asks him how Non is,

"No, I don't want anything to eat, Mam!" |
and Kath fusses over him, although he does not want anything to eat. Mark has questions directed at him from everyone,

"Can't we be quiet for a while?" |
but urges them all to be quiet for a while. Kath informs him that a few friends are coming round tonight to see him, but he insists that he does not want to see anyone; “Whatever you’ve arranged, cancel it, please!”

"They're only trying to welcome you home, Dad" |
Ricky tells him they are only trying to give him a nice welcome home, and wonders what is wrong.

Colin visits Non . . . |
Colin visits Non in the hospital, and she is pleased to see him;

. . . and presents her with a book about The Goons |
he has brought a book about The Goons, which were slightly before her time. He predicts that she will find it hilarious.

“Thank you, Colin, for being so nice – if it wasn’t for you, I would not have helped Mark,” she says,

"You've been extremely brave" |
but he replies that she has been extremely brave.

"Mark didn't come to see you?" |
“He may have gone home before you, but you won’t be far behind,” he assures her. She is surprised that Mark did not come to see her before he left; in fact she has not seen him since before the operation, but she has been sleeping a lot.

They wait, out of the rain, for DJ to arrive |
Chester and Hannah are sheltering from the rain in the alley when DJ arrives with the car; Hannah instructs, “Now behave and remember that he is doing you a favour.”

"You're not driving until we're out of the village" |
DJ does not want Chester driving until they have left the village,

"I have driven before" |
but is informed that Chester has driven before.

Chester gets in the driving seat |
Hannah wishes him good luck and he gets into the driving seat.

"What's the first rule of driving?" |
“Right then, what’s the first rule of driving?” asks DJ, and Chester immediately switches on the radio.

"Mirror, signal, manoeuvre" |
“Mirror, signal, manoeuvre,” Chester replies,

Chester sets off on his journey |
and the car, complete with its ‘D’ plate, moves off.

Gaynor is surprised by what she finds |
Gaynor returns to Llwyncelyn to find bin bags all over the place, as Elgan has decided to move in more of his stuff. She is rather taken aback, as he had not mentioned this,

"I was more or less living here" |
but he says that he was more or less living here, so might as well move in properly. “Sorry – I know it’s a big step to take without discussing it properly, but it makes sense, doesn't it?”
He is concerned that Gaynor is not happy with the situation,

and she admits that it came as something of surprise. At the top of one of the bags is a well-thumbed book,

which he explains is the diary he used to keep when he was in the army. “I didn’t want one tedious day slipping into the next –

“it’s strange, you want to forget, but at the same time you want to remember.”

Gaynor kisses him.

"They should be back by now!" |
In the café, Hannah is now panicking; “Where are they? They should be back by now!” she tells Diane.

"There's been a terrible car crash!" |
Dai comes in and tells them, “Don’t bother driving to Llanarthur – there’s been a terrible car crash – I could see flames from the top of the hill!”
Hannah is frantic and leaves a phone message for Chester;

“Chester, please phone me when you get this!” Dai and Diane look at each other.

Ffion's attire disturbs Hywel |
When Hywel arrives at Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion is in her dressing gown;

"It was a very muddy cross-country!" |
she explains, “It was a very muddy cross-country, but I’ve got a free afternoon to warm up.”
He, of course, misinterprets the situation and thinks he had better leave.

“Ffion, I’m sorry if I’ve misled you in any way,” he begins, “I like Gethin – I don’t want to hurt him.”

"Gethin will go mad, especially if I don't tell him" |
She is convinced that Hywel has been speaking to Dani; “I have no idea what to tell her,” she says, “I know it would make the world of difference to both of us, but Gethin will go mad, especially if I don’t tell him! What do you think is for the best?”

“Listen, Sheryl and I are very happy,” Hywel tells her,

and she asks if Sheryl knows about the will, too.

By this time he is completely perplexed, and asks what is going on, and why he is here.

“I want your advice about the money Moc has left,” she explains, and all suddenly becomes much clearer. “And you thought I’d invited you to . . .

“Maybe its best if I get dressed quickly, and then we can talk – now that you know why you’re here!” Hywel agrees that he will make a cup of tea.

In the café, Diane suggests that they may have gone to Carmarthen,

Hannah blames Diane |
and Hannah is due to go back to school, but is too worried. Dai has been unable to contact DJ, and Hannah blames Diane, as it was her idea for DJ to give Chester lessons.

Dai protests that no-one has mentioned driving lessons to him; “I’ve got a son out there somewhere too, don’t forget.” At that moment the missing pair walk in,

and Hannah demands where they had been.

"Well, at least he didn't kill anyone!" |
DJ replies that at least Chester did not kill anyone.
Chester explains that he could not phone Hannah back;

“You can’t phone while you’re driving!” She shouts that that have been gone for hours, and DJ points out that he did some shopping for Diane.

She explains that there has been an accident in Llanarthur, and Hannah was worried that he had been hurt.
“You’re so selfish!” shouts Hannah, and storms out of the café.

"Something is bothering Dad" |
Colin is told by Ricky that Mark is quiet, and something is bothering him; the others have gone to the village to tell people not to visit.

"I promised Non I would check on you" |
He goes into see Mark; “I promised Non I would call in to see how you are – I’ve just come back from the hospital, and she’s great. But she got a bit of a shock when I told her you had been discharged.”
Ricky thought that his father had been to see her this morning;

Mark confirms that he did not and he says that he feels bad about it. “I wanted to see her, but I was too ashamed that I could come home and she’s stuck there.

“It’s my fault she’s in the hospital in the first place.”

"She is pleased that you're getting better" |
Colin informs him that she is happy he has come home and pleased that he is getting better. “You can either hide in here and make yourself ill – and punish the both of you,

“or you can do the right thing and phone her.”

"No, I want to go and see her!" |
Mark makes the decision, “No, I want to go and see her!”

He struggles to his feet |
He gets to his feet with difficulty and they leave the house.

Elgan tries to find the rest of his diaries |
Elgan is looking for the rest of his diaries, and says he will get more boxes from his car; Gaynor expresses surprise that there is more to come,

and he demands, “Do you really want me here?” She answers that of course she does, and will help him; she picks up a bag,

"Why did you put everything in bin bags?" |
and all the books fall out of the bottom. She demands why he packed everything in bin bags, like a student.

"Right, I'm going back to the hpuse!" |
“Right, that’s it – I’m going back to the house!” he snarls, “This is a bad idea, obviously.” Gaynor argues that she wants him here, but they have plenty of time. “Why are you so negative?” he asks, “Are the diaries the problem? Or is it that that you can’t send me home if it all gets too much?”

She again assures him that she is always here for him, but is just worried that he is rushing into this; “It’s nothing to do with the diaries or your past.”

"I wanted something to keep me busy" |
He just wanted to do something with his time before going back to work, instead of pondering his thoughts; “But this is where I want to be – with you, if you’ll have me.”
Gaynor points out there is one condition if he is moving in –

"I wouldn't touch the money" |
“If you want my advice, I wouldn’t touch the money,” says Hywel, “Dani has put you in a very awkward position. Don’t you remember Gethin’s reaction to Moc’s death?”

"Gethin doesn't have to know" |
Ffion points out that he does not have to know, and that she can open a separate account, telling him that an old aunt has left it to her.
“You know as well as I do that secrets can kill a relationship,” he goes on, but she insists that the money means they could leave this place, as Gethin is always complaining that they need more room – and that they could go on holiday.

Chester demands to be let in |
Chester bangs on the door of Bryntirion, protesting that he did not know, and demanding to be let in. He vows he will not go until she opens the door, and so she does.

“If I had known about the accident, I would have phoned you!” he insists. She maintains that half an hour ago she thought something terrible had happened to him; “Well, tough, I’m still here!” he replies,

"I'll phone you so often, you'll get fed up with me" |
“I’ll never give you cause to worry again! I’m really sorry. From now on, I’ll phone you so often, you will get fed up with me – and after passing my test, you won’t have to walk anywhere. You’ll have a personal chauffeur.

Then he puts part of the blame on her |
“But I’m not the only one to blame – you booked the lesson.”

"Is something wrong, Mark?" |
Mark hobbles into the hospital ward, and Non is concerned that something is wrong. He confesses, “I had to come back –

"I'm so ashamed of myself" |
“I’m so ashamed of myself for not visiting you this morning – it was wrong.” She replies that he is here now,

Non takes his hand |
and takes his hand, saying that she feels a lot better.

"I don't know how I can repay you" |
“I don’t know how I’m ever going to repay you, or thank you,” he continues,

"You can stop saying you're sorry!" |
and Non says he can start by not continually saying ‘sorry’; it is enough for her that he is back on his feet again.
“After Colin said you had gone home, I was afraid I had upset you somehow,” she says, but Mark admits that he was stupid, thinking she would not want to see him.

"We're as paranoid as each other" |
“So that makes the two of us as paranoid as each other,” she comments, “You mean the world to me!” He agrees with this sentiment,

and they hug each other,

with Colin looking on.
“We’ll get through this together,” Non promises.
