Garry is short-staffed in the Deri
Garry is rushed off his feet in the Deri;  he tells Sioned that it does not help when the staff let him down.
"You and Gwyneth looked very close"
“You and Gwyneth looked very close yesterday,” he remarks,
"She likes to look after me"
and Sioned replies that Gwyneth likes to look after her.   “It looked like more than that to me – as if there were something going on,” he adds;  she tells him that he knows she is not gay.
“Does Gwern spend a lot of time with both of you?” he asks, but Sioned says she tries to leave them alone as much as possible.
"I don't want anything having an effect on Gwern"
“I don’t want anything having an effect on him,” he stresses, but again she insists she is not in a relationship with Gwyneth, neither does she intend to have a relationship.
It is someone's birthday
At Maes-y-Deri, a celebration is being arranged;  Debbie will bring doughnuts, scones and Bara Brith from the café.   Apparently it is to be low key type of thing.
Debbie is in some pain
As Debbie bends down to pick up a bag of crisps, she gasps with pain,
"You ought to go and see the doctor"
and Mark says she should see the doctor;  he and Non will sort out the party, but she says she is fine
"You should see Dr Elgan"
Kath walks in, so they try to hide the food on the table;  she advises that if Debbie is not feeling well, she should go and see Dr Elgan.
"He's lovely!"
“He’s lovely!” she enthuses, but Debbie tells them all to stop going on.
Kath is about to leave for work, and Mark sympathises,
"A shame you have to work on your birthday"
“What a shame, having to work on your birthday.”   She replies that there is nothing she can do about it.
They must have their lunch in different places
Dai and Mathew come out of the building they are renovating, and are eager for their lunch;  Mathew says that he is banned from the Deri, so will have to go to the café instead,
"I'll talk to Garry about this ban"
while Dai promises to have a word with Garry about this an.
Mathew cannot take his eyes off Dani
Then Mathew notices Dani along the street talking to Beti;  Dai reminds him that the shenanigans between him and Dani are what have caused this problem.
Beer is going to waste . . .
Sioned notices that one of the beer taps is still running, and the glass is overflowing,
. . . and Sioned is quick to stem the flow
so she hurries to turn it off.   Dani comes in with Carol, and is concerned to see Sioned behind the bar.
"Have you given her a job?"
She asks if Garry has given her a job,
Dani makes a hasty exit
then turns and takes Carol away again, much to Garry’s displeasure.
"I was only turning the tap off"
“Sorry – Dani came in as I was turning the tap off,” explains Sioned;
"Will you look after the bar?"
and Garry asks her if she will look after the bar, while he goes to see Carol.   “You saw Dani’s reaction – I don’t want to make matters worse,” Sioned warns him,
"I haven't had a cwtch for a fortnight"
but he complains that he has not had a cwtch with Carol for a fortnight.
When Dai turns round and sees Sioned behind the bar, he thinks he has entered a parallel universe;
"I haven't got to wait that long?"
he moans that he has to wait so long for his lunch.
"It's a bit awkward to talk about"
Debbie visits the surgery, where she is welcomed by the doctor;  she says that she has a problem, but it is awkward to talk about it.   She has tried to sort it out, but has failed.
"Tell me exactly where this pain is"
“Well, the first thing is to tell me exactly where this pain is,” replies Elgan.
"Why did you walk out like that?"
When Garry arrives at number 7, he asks why Dani just walked straight out of the Deri;  “You knew that I was supposed to see Carol.”
"You deliberately put her behind the bar!"
She alleges that he deliberately put Sioned behind the bar in order to spite her.   He explains that she went to turn off a tap, and assures her that he would not do that deliberately.
"Sorry, Garry – she's asleep"
He is not allowed give Carol a cwtch, as she is asleep, and Dani asks who is looking after the bar.   When he replies that it is Sioned,
"I move out and she moves in"
she smiles, “So I move out and she moves in.   That’s how it looks to everyone else as well.   You cannot take Carol – perhaps tomorrow – I don’t want Sioned near Carol.   She’s in the Deri –
"I don't want her near my daughter!"
she went to prison for domestic violence – I don’t want her near my daughter – end of!   Ban her, then you can see Carol tomorrow!”
"You can't use her to get your own way!"
He objects to Dani using Carol to get her own way, but she is adamant that she is just asking him to do the right thing.   “Why do you want her around?   You can stop her coming in –
"You just can't do it, can you?"
but you just can’t do it, can you?   You can’t do what’s right for everyone – because that would mean giving in!   Carol isn’t what matters to you –
"All that matter is yourself and winning!"
all that matters to you is yourself and winning!”
"I have a right to see Carol"
Garry insists that his children come first, and that he has a right to see Carol, so Dani tells him to do what she says.
"Colin loves chocolate cake"
Non is making a chocolate cake for the party;  she comments that Colin loves chocolate cake, but then is disappointed
"Colin is not coming"
when Mark receives a text to say that he is unable to come.
This rather dampens Non's mood
Her face falls at the news.
Debbie feels much better after her consultation
Debbie is leaving the surgery and being told not to worry by the doctor;
Kath is lurking nearby . . .
Kath is behind the reception desk as they go out, and heads towards Elgan’s office, which is left unattended.
. . . then goes to Elgan's office
She clears some items from his desk, moving the mouse, and the computer screen springs to life;
She sees Debbie's records on the screen . . .
as it shows Debbie’s medical records,
. . . and investigates further
she investigates further.
"She's coming, Mark!"
At Maes-y-Deri, they are putting up decorations when they see Kath returning.   Mark tries to stall her while the others finish the job;
"You go up and get changed"
“You go upstairs and get changed, and I’ll make you a birthday cuppa.”
"Debbie was in the surgery"
She knows that something is going on, and asks if Debbie is here, and whether she is all right.   “I saw her in the surgery –
"She doesn't tell you everything, does she?"
she had been to see Dr Elgan.   She doesn’t tell you everything, does she?”
"Is anything wrong?"
He asks Debbie why she did not say she was going to the doctor’s.   “Is anything wrong?”   She replies that it is nothing important,
"I've got constipation"
and admits that she is constipated.   She continues stirring her glass of constipation remedy.
"Dani wants me to ban you from here"
Sioned has been holding the fort at the Deri;  Garry returns in a bad mood, reporting, “Dani won’t let me see Carol properly until I ban you from here!”   Sioned can understand this, but he insists that she does not have to go.
"I don't want to be the reason for that"
“I don’t want to be the reason you don’t see Carol,” she replies, “And I don’t want people to think that either.”
"She's not going to tell me what to do!"
Garry is adamant that Dani is not going to tell him what to do,
"You don't have any choice"
but Sioned reminds him that if he wants to see his daughter, he does not have any choice.
Garry snarls, “She’s using Carol to control me, and that’s not right!   I had enough of that with Gwyneth and Gwern!   I can’t win, whatever I do.”
"Happy birthday!"
When Kath comes downstairs, they all wish her happy birthday,
"It's only constipation"
and Mark informs her there is no need to worry about Debbie, as she is only suffering from constipation, but she was too embarrassed to say.
"Dad, I'm nearly 18!"
Then Mark catches Ricky with some alcohol;  “You had enough of that at the party last week to last until you’re twenty!” he says.
"Constipation, is it?"
Kath goes into the kitchen, and remarks, “You’ve got constipation, then.   There’s no need to keep secrets from family, unless you’re ashamed of something.   A lot of things are not very nice to talk about –
"Do you have any more secrets, then?"
do you have any more secrets, then?”
Kath cross-examines her son
Then Kath joins Mark on the sofa, and asks, “Does Debbie always talk to you about her health issues?”   He cannot remember her ever being ill.
"Women's issues – down below"
“What about two years ago?” his mother continues, and he is becoming anxious now, but she insists she is only asking, and it is important to talk.   “Women’s issues, down below – and mens issues?”
"I'm going to get some more crisps"
Embarrassed, Mark decides to go and get some more crisps;  he tells Debbie that his mother has only been working in that surgery a couple of days,
"She thinks she is a doctor"
and already she thinks she is a doctor.
"I'll put one of those powders in her tea!"
Debbie suggests that she should put one of those powders in her tea.   Mark predicts they would both be fighting over the toilet then.
"I know I'm the last person you want to see"
Sioned visits Dani, acknowledging, “I’m the last person you want to see, and I don’t blame you,
"I have no interest in Garry"
but I’ve come to tell you that I have no interest in Garry, and he has no interest in me either.   His only concern is Carol – and if you’re using her to force him to do something, you know how stubborn he is.”
"Yes, I know Garry quite well"
Dani agrees that, yes, she knows Garry quite well;  he may be upset, but he is not the only one.    Sioned repeats, “It is not right to use Carol to get what you want.   I’ve learned one or two things over the last few months . . .”
"Tell him that it didn't work!"
Dani tells her to leave, requesting her to give Garry a message;  “Sending you here didn’t work.”   Sioned protests that Garry does not know she is here;
"I'd better tell him, then!"
“Right, I’d better tell him, then,” Dani says,
"Don't question the way I look after my daughter!"
“Don’t you dare question the way I look after my daughter!” she adds, as she puts on her coat.
"We might boycott the pub"
Dai warns Garry, “If you don’t lift this silly ban on Mathew, Jim and I might never come in here again!”
"I couldn't care less, Dai!"
but Garry does not care.   He does not want to hear the name of Mathew again – unless it is to tell him that he has had a serious accident.
Dani returns
As Dai goes outside to report his failure, Dani and Sioned are heading into the Deri.
"I told you to get rid of her!"
“Your friend came over to give me advice on you and Carol,” says Dani, “Why is she still here?   I told you to get rid of her!”
"I don't have to do what you say"
He replies that he does not have to do what she says, as this is his pub.
Dani insists that she does not want Carol anywhere near Sioned;  he must tell her to go.   She adds, “Upstairs, now!”
"I'm not dani's lapdog"
but he tells Sioned that he is not Dani’s lapdog.
She waits for him . . .
Dani waits a few minutes upstairs,
. . . but he is not coming
then, realising that Garry is not coming, goes back down again,
Garry awaits her return
where Garry is waiting for her
"Punters drinking with an abuser?"
“Actually, I wonder if punters like drinking with someone who went to prison for abuse,” Dani ponders, and Sioned remarks she is not the only person who is abusive around here.
She has paid for what she did to Ed;
"It's the fact that I slept with Garry"
“It’s not the abuse that you’re bothered about – you don’t like the fact that I slept with Garry,” Sioned alleges.   Dani replies, “The fact Garry managed to sleep with anyone comes as a surprise –
"You must be easily satisfied!"
you must be easily satisfied!   I had to sleep with a man much younger than Garry to remember what satisfaction was!”
Garry finds this entertaining
Garry is rather amused by this,
"Her father chose the company of a slapper!"
and Dani promises, “When Carol grows up, I will make sure that she knows everything – that her father chose the company of a slapper, rather than to spend time with his own daughter.”
"Sioned, I'd like to offer you a job – full-time!"
Sioned is about to leave when Garry says, “Sioned, I’d like to offer you a job – full-time!”
"I accept!"
She is only too happy to accept.
