6 February 2018

The mail has been delivered . . .
Dani looks through the morning post, selects one letter and opens it;
. . . and one letter interests Dani
she looks concerned at what she reads,
She is concerned at what it says
and sits down to study it more closely.
"About time, too, Tyler!"
Kelly shouts to Tyler that if he does not soon come downstairs, Iolo will be 31.
"A voucher for a facial!"
Tyler gives Iolo a card and a present;  Kelly has already given him hers, containing a voucher for a facial in the salon.   She asks what are their plans for today,
"I'm busy this afternoon"
and Iolo replies that they have not made any, as he is busy this afternoon.
"I'm going to check on Dani"
Tyler would like to go and visit Dani to check if she is OK;  “I won’t be long – we can do something later,” he says.
He collides with Mathew
As he passes the café, Mathew barges into him, and Tyler tells him to mind where he is going.
"Messing with her head like that!"
“You should be apologising to Dani – messing with her head like that!” he rages.
Kath has her breakfast
Kath sits disconsolately at the breakfast table;
Debbie returns from night shift at the hospital
Debbie thought she would have been still in bed.   “I couldn’t sleep – but I’m still shattered,” Kath says.
"You didn't spend all night on a chair!"
Debbie has spent the night on a particularly uncomfortable hospital chair.
Kath asks if Mark has calmed down this morning,
"They both had a good night"
and Debbie reports that both he and Non had a good night’s sleep.
No tea, no bread and no orange juice
Then she finds that there is no tea in the pot, the bread has all gone and the orange juice carton is empty, which does nothing to improve her mood.
Kath advises her to have a snooze, as there no need to stay at the hospital now that things have calmed down;
Kath wants compassionate leave
“I’m off to see Sara – I want to talk to her about getting compassionate leave.   We’ve all had a hard time, not just Mark and Non.   You should have a break as well – you look terrible – we’re not superhuman!”
"Hello, gorgeous!"
Tyler goes to the Deri flat, where he is told
Carol is in a better mood today
that Carol is not sleeping very well;  “Still no word from Garry?” he asks Dani, “He will phone – it’s Gwern’s birthday party on Friday.”   Dani suddenly realises that Iolo’s birthday is today, and she forgot all about it.
"Iolo is a big boy now"
Tyler tells her she has enough on her plate at the moment, and Iolo is a big boy now.
He reads the letter . . .
Then Dani shows him the letter that arrived this morning,
. . . indicating that Dani has inherited £30,000
and we learn that she is the sole beneficiary of the will of Mr Morgan (Moc) Thomas.
"I shall not be keeping it!"
“£30,000 – that’s loads of money!” he exclaims;  she does not want Gethin to know anything about this, and points out that there is no need for him to know, as she will not be keeping it.   She is quite adamant that she does not want it.
Colin is certainly celebrating Iolo's  30th
There is a knock at the front door of number 7, and Colin comes in, with two enormous balloons and a card for Iolo;  he urges Iolo to open the card,
Colin is reduced to peals of laughter . . .
which emits the sound of breaking wind.   Colin finds the sound absolutely hilarious,
. . . but Iolo is not as amused
but Iolo is less amused.
"I would have organised a surprise party"
“If it wasn’t for Mark and Non, I would have organised a surprise birthday party,” Colin continues, “They had a slight wobble after the operation, but are all right now.”
"Toast – on your birthday?"
When he learns that Iolo has only had some toast for breakfast, Colin insists they are going to the café for a proper breakfast.   “Phone Elinor to look after Greta – I’ll pay!”
Sara is doing some paperwork
Sara is at home, going through some paperwork, when she is disturbed by the arrival of Kath;  “I’d like to talk to you about something,” she begins,
"I'd like compassionate leave"
“I don’t like putting myself before work, you know, but I’d like to have compassionate leave from work, please.   My family has been through hell these last few weeks – but Mark and Non are so-so now, considering the circumstances.
"They will need someone to look after them"
“When they get out, they will need someone to take care of them.”
"Bereavement or illness of a  partner or a child"
Sara consults the staff handbook, and reads out the relevant section, which indicates that compassionate leave will only be granted in cases of the bereavement or illness of a partner or child.
"Well, Mark is my child!"
Kath points out that Mark is her child,
"I'll reduce your hours, if you like"
and Sara offers to reduce her hours.
Kath concludes that this will mean less money in her pocket;
"Oh – very compassionate!"
“Thanks, Sara, that’s very compassionate of you!” she grumbles and walks out of the house.
"I have to open, as Britt is at the Cash and Carry"
Dani insists that she has to open the Deri, as Britt has gone to the cash and carry.   “You should seriously consider this money,” Tyler encourages her, but she flatly refuses, and tells him to go and open the door;  he leaves the letter on the bar.
Tyler has unlocked the front door
A couple of regulars come in,
"You really ought to think about it!"
and Tyler resumes, “You really ought to think about it – you’re still in shock – don’t rush into anything.”
"Get me a box of cheese and onion crisps"
She asks him to fetch a box of cheese and onion crisps, then she hears Carol crying, through the baby monitor, and goes upstairs.
"Oh, what's this, then?"
In her absence, Mathew comes in and notices the aforementioned letter.
Kelly serves two breakfasts
In the café, Kelly serves Colin and Iolo with their breakfast;  Colin maintains that calories and fat do not count on your birthday.
"All right – one small one at lunchtime"
Iolo is adamant that he will not get drunk tonight, but might have a small one at lunchtime. Then Colin wants Kelly to open the card he gave to Iolo,
Kelly activates the birthday card
with the resultant noise, which Colin again finds hysterically funny.
"How old are you, Colin?"
“How old are you, Colin?” she demands.
"What has he been drinking?"
Sara comes in, and wonders how much Colin has had to drink.
Mathew reads the letter again
After reading the letter again, Mathew puts it in his pocket, and when Dani returns from upstairs, she tells him,
"Tyler will be back soon"
“Whatever you’re here for, I don’t have the time!   Tyler will be back soon.”
"To discuss this?"
“To discuss this?” Mathew enquires, brandishing the letter, “Does Gethin know?   £30,000 is a lot of money!”
I'm not talking about that here!"
She is not going to talk about the subject here, and sends him upstairs.   Tyler returns with the crisps,
"Mind the bar for a few minutes, Ty"
and Dani asks him to mind the bar for a few minutes.
Debbie comes into the café . . .
Debbie arrives at the café, and is disturbed to see dirty plates on the tables;  she shouts for Kelly,
. . . and tries to tidy up
then begins frantically clearing up the place, dropping a plate in the process.
Kelly is stunned
When Kelly comes in, Debbie squeals at her, “Where have you been?
"I pay you to run this place!"
“I pay you to run this place – you should clear the tables first!”   She rushes into the kitchen, followed by Kelly.
Dani tells Mathew that he had no right to read the letter;
"There's no sense in refusing it!
he seems quite impressed by Moc’s generosity, and cannot understand it when Dani does not want the money.   “There’s no sense in refusing it!”
"This is none of your business!

She informs him that this is nothing to do with him, but he will not be silenced;  “You would be stupid to refuse – Moc left you the money –

"It's money for you and Carol"
“it’s money for you and Carol.”
"No – it's dirty money!"
She corrects him that it is dirty money.
“Money that could change everything, now Garry’s gone!   Just think it through – here’s the chance for us to start a new life, you, me and Carol.
"We could start again"
“The money could help us start again – away from here, away from Garry, the Deri, and all that has caused you such heartache.   It’s the ideal opportunity!”
"What's he doing here?"
In reply, Dani shouts, “Garry is Carol’s father – that’s why!”   Tyler comes upstairs to ask if they have any orange squash, and wonders what Mathew is doing there.
Mathew thinks it is advisable to go
In the face of the opposition, Mathew leaves.
"I thought he'd been banned from the Deri"
Colin, his two large balloons and Iolo arrived at the Deri as Mathew is leaving;  Iolo was under the impression that he had been banned from the pub.
"There's no sign of any service here"
“There’s no sign any of service here,” Colin comments, “Right, there’s only one thing for it –
"Welcome to lunchtime cocktails at the Deri!"
“welcome to lunchtime cocktails at the Deri!   Britt’s the boss, and we’re engaged, so there’s no problem.”
"Do you know how to make a Bloody Mary?"
Iolo asks if he knows how to make a Bloody Mary;
Colin Evans, cocktail waiter extraordinaire
Colin sets about making one straightaway.   He will only make the one, as he is going to see Mark and Non later.
"I'm sorry, Kelly!"
In the café kitchen, Debbie apologises for her earlier outburst;  “It wasn’t fair, having a go at you in front of everybody.”
"You've been under a lot of pressure"
Kelly understands the situation, and asks how Mark and Non are progressing.   She appreciates that Debbie has been under a lot of pressure.
"The café is quiet now"
Sara reports that the café is quiet now.
“I’ve tried to stay strong for weeks –
"I think everything has caught up with me"
“I think everything has caught up with me now,” Debbie admits,
"One lush hot chocolate coming up!"
and Kelly says that she is going to make a lush hot chocolate, and then Debbie can go home to sleep.
"What if Garry doesn't come back?"
Tyler makes Dani a cup of tea;  “What if Garry doesn’t come back?   The possibility must have crossed your mind.
"You can't run the Deri on your own"
“You can’t run the Deri on your own – and what will you do without Garry’s money?”   She replies that money is not everything,
"Money is essential when raising a child!"
but he emphasises that it is essential when raising a child.
“We didn’t have the most comfortable upbringing, and things were not always easy – don’t you want the best for Carol?” he demands.
"It wouldn't be fair on Gethin"
Dani maintains that even if she did accept the money, it would not be fair on Gethin.
"It's you and Carol that matter right now"
Tyler urges her to stop thinking of other people;  “It’s you and Carol that matter right now.   I won’t say any more about it today – I’m going to see Iolo –
"Please give this serious thought"
“but please give this serious thought.”
Dani looks again at the letter
She picks up the letter once more and looks at it.
